In this episode, Jam shares about his recent trip to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He also discusses his father's inspiring life story, from being an orphan to becoming a successful man. The key takeaway is that success is not defined by material wealth, but by achieving personal fulfilment. Nimal's journey from a poor village boy to a successful and respected individual is a testament to his determination, resilience, and commitment to learning. Despite facing numerous challenges, including poverty, lack of resources, and limited opportunities, Nimal managed to overcome them through hard work and a passion for education. He excelled in his studies, secured a government job, and continued to improve himself throughout his career. Nimal's success can be attributed to his honesty, gratitude, and willingness to go above and beyond. He never forgot the people who helped him along the way and always sought ways to give back to his community. Nimal's story serves as an inspiration for others to persevere and strive for success. Our Library - What we are currently reading:Dylan - The Almanack of Naval Ravikant: https://amzn.to/3ypkk7M Jam - Turn the ship around: https://amzn.to/4bta4K0 Follow us on all your favourite platforms:https://linktr.ee/thequestforsuccess Every 5 star review helps the show more than you can imagine : )

In this episode, I'm in conversation with 3 hardworking and passionate black women; Millie Kerr, Nimal Jude and returning Shantel Thomas. This was an opportunity to discuss and review the conference, its original aims and objectives. Our discussion was lively, frank and open - full of laughter and warmth but no less serious about the 'mission'. Millie, Nimal and Shantel were instrumental in organising and leading this event in collaboration with the S.W.E.A.R.N - Social Work Anti-racist Network. The team discussed what went well and the feedback received, they also shared what would have improved the event, namely a budget! Most of the work in bringing this conference to fruition came down to grit, determination and additional work on top of their day jobs.......... we engage in discussion on the need for senior leaders to really get involved, which will require some deep self-reflection on issues of anti-racism and commitment to action and change. The team have bigger ambitions for next year and will be working with other colleagues to make it happen, so watch this space - if there is anything you can do to help with the mission an ACTION agenda, please get in touch. We also hear about the ARM - Anti-racist Movement, a space for healing. Members of ARM are predominantly Black and Brown women working in the anti-racism space but also include practitioners, educators and leaders. ARM meet every last Friday of the month. In this episode of this series, Head of Practice Development, Nimal Jude, looks in more detail at our report into the commissioning of secure children's home placements in England. She is joined by Eleanor Briggs, Director of Research, who helps explain the widely reported discrepancies between bed occupancies in secure children's homes and demand, as well as the challenges faced in allocating suitable places. Nimal also talks to Alice Roe, a lead researcher at Nuffield Family Justice Observatory (NFJO) to find out what the findings from our report into secure children's homes means for the sector, how it fits with NFJO's own research and the next steps. "Understanding residential care for children in care in England" is part of a series of research we contributed to the recent Independent Review of Children's Social Care. In this episode we discuss our pilot evaluation of Family Safeguarding, part of the Strengthening Families Protecting Children (SFPC) programme commissioned by the Department for Education. SFPC aims to support local authorities to introduce one of three models of practice into their own area. These models hope to enable more children to stay in safe and stable family environments, so that fewer children need to be taken into care. This was the first report we published as part of SFPC in June 2021. Family Safeguarding was launched in Cambridgeshire in February 2020 just before the COVID-19 lockdown. The initiative is a multi-disciplinary approach to safeguarding, with adult specialist practitioners in mental health, substance misuse and domestic abuse working alongside children's social workers. Contributors: Presenter Nimal Jude, our Head of Practice Development, talks to the report's research lead Hannah Collyer. Later in the podcast Nimal catches up with Sam Howlett, Head of Family Safeguarding at Cambridgeshire County Council, to hear about her experience of being part of the Family Safeguarding pilot. Here's another exciting and informative episode for you!In this episode, Nadia, Fran and Eugene are joined by the terrific Nimal Jude for a conversation about the Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) in social care. The WRES is a set of standards/framework to measure different aspects of social care in relation to race. Local Authorities are asked to submit data in relation to a number of different aspects such as; who gets access to paid CPD, reports of bullying, who gets promotions etc. With a WRES already established in the NHS, Nimal and colleagues are eager to replicate the success of the WRES in the NHS to benefit social care. This is a fascinating listen and an example of Anti-Racist social work practice! If you enjoy this episode then please share with your friends, leave a review and follow The Social Matters Podcast on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
