TODAY'S DEVOTION: Wherever the Gospel is preached, it'll either be received and welcomed or rejected and resisted. For some, it'll seem familiar and old, and for others, it'll seem brand new. Paul and Barnabas were being sent out, and the message about Christ was multiplying in the hearts of many. They were preaching to Jews primarily, taking them all the way back to Abraham and Moses—back through the exile, their deliverance from Egypt, through the wilderness, the institution of the Levitical and sacrificial system, through the prophets and kings. They took them back to something old and familiar. Out of this long story of God's people emerged God's man, the Messiah—God's man and his plan—Jesus, the one who would make the world right again. God sent his Son to give his life on behalf of the whole world. In his life, lived in perfect love, he fulfilled the law of God. He demonstrated absolute purity, holiness, righteousness, and justice. And then he died on a cross as a substitute sacrifice for us so that we might live. But he didn't just die for all—he was raised to new life for all. And now everyone can be freed from the penalty of sin and shame, from death and the grave. Now every human being can begin to walk in the new life given to them in Christ. This is the message they're preaching with all their heart and soul. And many are responding with joy. But many are resisting and rejecting this message. They resist because they had put their hope in their own piety and obedience to the law and not in God. But it's not only the pious who have a hard time with this—Christians have a hard time with this, too. Christians everywhere are tempted to trust in their own piety, their own self-effort, as a way to make themselves right with God. In the end, we end up frustrated, bitter, exhausted, and discouraged. It happens all the time. But this is not the message that we have been given. The message Paul was on fire to tell was that we are made right with God not by our own efforts or piety, but by what Christ has done for us. Ours is to believe, to say yes to what God has already done, and to walk in the power, the goodness, the joy, and the abiding presence of Christ himself. Live in the light, the strength, and joy of Christ in you. Be one who receives and rests in his life, not one who resists and rejects it. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul today. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Let's embark on this soul-shaping journey together and open our hearts to where God's Word might lead us today. TODAY'S DEVOTION: It's all a gift. Peter finally comes to his senses. He finally realizes that he was not in chains anymore, that he was free. And he quickly and immediately realizes that it was the Lord who broke those chains and set him free. We are also told that the church was praying for him. And we can't help but draw a line between the people's prayers and Peter's dramatic deliverance. Somehow the church, through prayer, was able to participate with what God was actually doing. And for all this, Peter is quick to give God the praise and acknowledge that it is all from him. It's all a gift. This is so unlike what we hear from Herod. When people begin to praise and treat him and speak of him as if he were a God, he does nothing to correct them. He readily and gladly accepts their worship. As a result, he's struck with worms and he dies an absolutely horrendous, inglorious death. When we take the glory that is due only to God, we are not free. No, we are consumed from the inside out. Living for the glory of yourself won't bring life. It won't bring freedom. It will only bring death. No matter how splendid that life might appear. God is the source of all good in our life. He's the only one who has broken the chains humanity was bound to. He's the only one who has rescued us from the dark dungeons we've been sentenced to. He's the only one that sets us free. It's all a work of God, lest any of us should boast. So let's awaken from the fog like Peter did, standing in the middle of the street, suddenly realizing that God had done this amazing thing. That his chains were broken, the gates were opened, that he was walking out free into a new day. God had done it all. Let's awaken like Peter did, to see that God has done all of these things for us too. Let's make sure that we're like Peter and give God the glory for all the good that he's brought into our life. It's all from Him. Any victories that we might have experienced, any growth that we've known as Christians, any new insight or understanding of God's love, it's all a gift from Him. These are all from God, not of us, but they are all for us. For our joy, for our freedom, but for his glory. So let's live fully aware in the knowledge that God is the source of our freedom in life. He is the one that causes chains to come off. He is the one that walks with us into a new day. May this day be one where we honor him for all that he has done. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. There was a mystery in how they followed me, mimicking every movement, always with me but never the real thing. Today in Exodus, we hear about Bezalel, the master craftsman who built the tabernacle: a structure made of gold, silver, and precious materials, carefully crafted, beautiful and spectacular. Yet, as remarkable as it is, it's just a shadow—a copy of something far greater, of the true temple in heaven. Bezalel's very name means "in the shadow of God." He worked under the shadow of a master craftsman even greater than himself—Jesus. Jesus is building a temple too, but not with gold and silver. He's using something more precious: people. You and I are living stones, carefully fit together, placed into God's house by his gentle and powerful hand. Christ is the master builder, building something beautiful out of our lives. As First Peter says, we are living stones, a spiritual temple, and holy priests offering spiritual sacrifices that please God. The craftsmanship of Bezalel is delightful; it's amazing and intricate. But the true reality, the masterpiece, is what Jesus is doing. He is making a home—a dwelling and meeting place for God and us—a place of forgiveness, renewal, and communion. It's not confined to shadows, but is alive and real in the life of Christ. So today, let's rejoice in the master creator who has made us a part of his very life. Let's not live merely in the shadow, but step fully into the reality of Christ. Jesus is building something wonderful, and you are included. Let's make our home in him; it's where we belong, it's where we're meant to be. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S DEVOTION: His life is for everyone, and he is impartial. Jesus' message of life is impartial and he has no favorites. It envelops everyone, regardless of nationality or political affiliation, race or gender. It doesn't matter. Jesus has come to undo all that was done in Adam. And everyone is included, even those we think are far beyond the pale of God's love. Don't call unclean what I have made clean is the message Peter was given. And Cornelius, in Peter's estimation, prior to this moment, would have been unclean. Even though Cornelius was a good man. As soon as Peter walks in the door, this good man was ready to fall down and worship Peter. Good people are falling down and worshiping the wrong things all the time. But God is revealing himself to good people everywhere. And the answer for all people, good or bad, is not, "Here's a list of good things that you must do in order to be made right with God." No, it's not transactional that way. It's not, "If you do this, then God will do that." No, it is a declaration of what God has done on behalf of all of humanity, good people included. It's not a sales pitch. It's good news and it's for everyone. And it must be proclaimed to everyone, even those you might think are unclean and far from God. That's what Peter is learning, and that's what is being declared. So let's be renewed in this gospel, this gospel of Jesus, this message of what God has done for us in Christ. Let's walk in his transforming power. He is the one who makes good people, new people; broken people, healed people; unclean people, clean people; and dead people, alive. He has done it all, and it is finished. That's the gospel, and it's for everyone, even me and you. So let's walk in it today. Let's rejoice in that today. And whatever appointment God has for you, be ready to respond. He's impartial, and his message envelops everyone. And you never know what miracle might be on its way. And the prayer of my own heart today is that I will see that. That I'll root myself in this declaration of what is—and what is, my friend, is really good. And that's a prayer for my own soul. That's a prayer for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S DEVOTION: He's still there. The book is called Acts of the Apostles, and we're going to see a lot of the apostles in the days ahead, especially Paul and Peter. But the person we're going to see the most is Jesus. This book could be called the Acts of Jesus because he's still there with his followers, doing what he always does. But now he's moving beyond Israel and is outside the city of Damascus. He's about to do those things that we've seen him do. He's about to overwhelm one of his enemies with light and forgiveness and love. He'll blind Saul and transform him into Paul. He's on his way up into another upper room where people are mourning the loss of a generous-hearted woman named Tabitha. Peter's there in that room for sure. But the writer of this book doesn't want you to miss the fact that Jesus is there too. If this moment sounds familiar, it should, because it echoes back to Jesus in an upper room, the room of Jairus, the synagogue ruler, with his twelve-year-old daughter, a girl Jesus called Talitha. Both Tabitha and Talitha had passed from life to death. He's still doing what he always does. He's bringing life where there was once death. And he's here with us today too, doing now what he has always done. He's overwhelming our resistant hearts with his light, forgiveness, and love, opening eyes to see more and more just who he is, the way he did with Paul. He's also entering into the upper rooms of our hearts where there is death and a need for resurrection and hope. There he takes us by the hand and says words like, it's time to get up. It's time to live. He's still there doing what he does. He's bringing his light and forgiveness and love. And he's doing this all around the world, even today. In fact, he's in the room with you right now. Do you hear him? Do you sense his presence? Hear his word of forgiveness and light and love? Let him take you by the hand and raise you up to new life. Today. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters, and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. In fact, the ink hasn't even dried yet on this covenant agreement between God and his people before they go ahead and break it. And boy, do they break it. They break it in such grand fashion that it's almost comical. In fact, Moses even notes that the enemies of the people stand at a distance, amused. They saw this dark humor, that these people who had been delivered by God were abandoning him so early and worshiping a god made out of their own earrings. The treachery of the human heart is no laughing matter, however. And Moses pleads with God. He appeals to God, to the covenant promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, based on the relationship that he had with these people that he knew by name. He does not appeal to the covenant law. He doesn't appeal to God as judge. No. He appeals to his relationship and to the relationship he had with the three patriarchs which was established in faith. Abraham believed that God would make his descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, just like God told him. He believed that all the nations of the earth would be blessed through his seed, through his descendant. That a champion, a Messiah would come through him. And that this Messiah would transform the treacherous, law-breaking, idol-worshiping hearts of every human being. He would do it by invading our humanity and putting on flesh. He would accomplish what we could not do. He would remain faithful where we have been faithless. And he would offer himself as a perfect sacrifice on our behalf that we might have that relationship with God that we were created for, restored and renewed. And he would do this on behalf of all. And that includes you, my friend. He has come to draw you into his very life—the vicarious humanity of Christ. Christ being faithful where you have not been faithful. Christ being obedient when we failed to be obedient. Christ forgiving when we have failed to forgive. Christ being all in all on behalf of all. And the prayer of my own heart today is that I will see it. I'll catch a greater glimpse of that good news that Philip saw, of the good news that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob saw. That I will see it and that I will know his freedom and his joy. And that's a prayer that I have for my family too, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Confusion doesn't come from God withholding direction, but from us responding out of fear, lack, or anticipation instead of alignment. Jesus models this perfectly: He doesn't chase instruction, ask excessive questions, or live in delay. The seemingly endless list of tabernacle instructions are so specific, so exact, it can leave a person wondering what it's all about. The tabernacle was a place where God would meet man in a unique way. It was an intersection between heaven and earth, between God and man. The covenant between God and his people was affirmed there. The stone tablets of the covenant were stored there in the ark. The lid of the ark was the place of atonement. All these things were taking place in the tabernacle. And we are told that the tabernacle was a pattern of things that were in heaven. The tabernacle helped tell the story of God, of his love and salvation that he brings to the whole world. This was an important place. These are important symbols. But it was only a shadow of something far greater, of things yet to come. It was a shadow of Christ. Christ came to be the intersection between heaven and earth. He came to tabernacle and dwell with us. He was the place of atonement—the person of atonement that takes away the sins of the world. In John 2:19, Jesus says, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." He's referring to himself there, his own body, because he's the fulfillment of the shadow we see in Exodus. We're not only reconciled to God through his body, he's also given us his life right here, right now. We see this in Stephen. He was full of the Spirit and wisdom, so full that his countenance is being lit up. He's dwelling, he's abiding in the tabernacle, if you will—in Christ. He's abiding in Christ at that very moment. And we too can experience this abiding life in Christ. We can abide in the greater tabernacle—in Him. We can live from this place of forgiveness in his presence. And we too can find the power for life and healing here and now. And the prayer of my own heart today is that I will see this through the shadows of these pages and that I will see it even through the shadows of day-to-day life, that I'll have ears to hear, eyes that are wide open to abide in the mercy and the grace of this given day, to abide in Him. That's the prayer that I have for my soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Paul's letter to the Romans contains some of the most meaningful and thought provoking words in Scripture. It is extremely challenging to read it and embrace all its' points in our minds.  Maybe, more than any other book in the Bible, this book calls for our diligent and meditative study.  But this is the challenge of the whole Bible, it is not at all like a school text book that you go through in a year's study and then leave on the shelf for occasional reference.  God's word is designed by him for our lifelong reading and reflection. Paul had been brought up under the Law of Moses with all its rules and regulations.  He had been zealous for the Law, but, as a result of his dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus, he had, with God's help through the Spirit, applied his mind to the new reality of eternal things – especially – to a personal relationship to his Saviour.The Law of Moses was a Law for Israel as a nation. This Law had been superseded by a situation in which each individual needed to develop a personal relationship with their Saviour the Lord Jesus and with his Father – and through him – is now ‘Our Father.'   Paul writes, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.  For the creation waits with eager longing …” [8 v.18,19]  This sense of eagerness is felt by all those who see the emptiness in so much of what people enjoy today:  But it is all “creation” that waits for the removal of the curse imposed in Eden.  We learn in Genesis how God said to Adam “cursed is the ground because of you” [Gen. 3 v.17]  Paul goes on to say we “groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons (& daughters), the redemption of our bodies” [v.23]   How true is the word eagerly – especially as we grow older and our minds and bodies feel the effects.   Those who find this life satisfying and enjoyable will not genuinely “wait eagerly” for that which is going to replace it. But for many in the world this life offers little that is enjoyable – so they are often in a far more spiritually acceptable frame of mind before God. Finally, let us all read carefully and prayerfully the last 8 verses (31-39) of Romans ch 8.

And yet, as we read today, Ananias and Sapphira got that message so very wrong. The High Council and the religious leaders, too, missed the central truth. And that's pretty much true to form for most religion—the simple message of God can often be missed, misused, or manipulated. Ananias and Sapphira thought this message was about getting—position, influence, prominence. They wanted to manipulate, to use the message for gain, not for giving. The heart of what God offers was missed in their striving, their attempt to appear generous when it was really driven by self-interest. Then we see the religious leaders; they saw the message as a threat to their control and their standing. They tried to stop it, seeing it not as good news of life but as something that threatened their systems. And isn't this true for us as well? Inside and outside the church we often take the message of life and shape it into something else—a tool for manipulation, or a means to gain acceptance or justify ourselves, or a way to maintain power or status. But the message is so simple, and we see it again today, spoken with clarity by the angel to Peter and John: "Go to the temple and give the people this message of… life." That's it. Life. You've been included into the very life of God. Let go of all the false messages, let go of the need to control, to pretend, to justify. Just say yes to this simple truth, and experience life—here and now. Jesus himself tells us, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). In him was life, and that life was the light of all people (John 4). It's not about power, or prestige, or gaining influence. It's about participating in the abundant, eternal life that God gives freely. Among all the twisted manipulations of the human heart comes God's invitation: Step into life. Don't miss it; receive it, enter and awaken to the life offered to you. Walk with him. Participate with him. You can start right now, simply by turning your heart toward God in gratitude—"Thank you for life, Lord Jesus. I walk with you today." Join us as we establish life-giving rhythms in God's Word and begin this day together with hope and purpose. TODAY'S DEVOTION: It's hard to make sense of these laws in Exodus. They're hard on the ears. They're hard on our souls. These rules we hear dictating the treatment of slaves and women seem so cruel and barbaric. They're hard to hear. In understanding them, it's important that we try to see them in their historical and cultural context. But maybe even more important is that we see them in the context of the fallen human heart. These hard and confusing laws that are being described here are a result of a fallen human heart living in a fallen world. And God in many respects is conceding to this state of affairs through giving us these laws, but only for a while. He will not tolerate this forever. And we should not, as some Christians have in the past, interpret these scriptures in such a way that we say God is okay with slavery. To say that is to misread what the whole Bible is about. To say that is to misunderstand who Jesus himself is. He has come to set humanity free, to break the bonds of our slavery. God is not okay with slavery. Period. He's done something about this. He has given us himself, the promised Messiah that Peter so boldly proclaims in this chapter in Acts. Peter is living out of a new heart. He's a part of a growing community—at this point, 5,000—who are waking up to a new reality in Christ. This new community we see in Acts is so different than the one that's being formed in Exodus. In this new community, God is no longer conceding to hard hearts. Instead, he has drawn them into his own heart, into his own life. And out of this place of wholeness and life in God, they are learning to walk in this new reality as the new people of God. Not living out of a place of dominance or superiority or fear or ownership of one another that we see all over in Exodus. Instead, we see a community that is self-giving, it's generous, compassionate, and loving. In Exodus, we see only a shadow, glimpses of the heart of God in these laws that are described. But in Christ we see the very face of God—his unfiltered and perfect reflection of the nature and the character of God, fully seen, fully known. In the Son, you have been invited to wake up, to wake up to the new reality in Christ. Through him you have been enveloped into the triune life of God. You are free, you are holy, you are his and you are loved. This is what's true. This is what is ours. Ours is to agree with God. To turn from the lies that keep us living like a slave and begin to live in the truth, in the light, as the daughter that you are, the son that you are. The prayer of my own heart is that today I'll be fully awake. That I'll live in this new reality that I've been swept up into. And that's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Is it as big as the Red Sea? Or maybe it's just a small pond, but the waters in that pond are bitter. What is standing in your way? What keeps you from moving forward? Where are you stuck? In today's story, the people of Israel were stuck. When they stared out over the impossibility of that giant Red Sea, they were stuck. And when they stared into that small little pond called Marah, they were stuck. In both cases, they faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and in both cases, God found a way to move them through what was standing in their way. And when God delivered them, there was dancing, worship, and song. They sang and danced because God delivered them by taking them across the Red Sea, saving them from Pharaoh's army. But only three days later, it wasn't the Red Sea anymore—it was a small, bitter pond. There, their song turned into complaint. Rather than looking to God, they looked for someone to blame. That's a picture of our own hearts. Our singing can so quickly turn to blaming. Yet God has nothing to apologize for. He promises to bring us out of bondage and into the land of promise. The real obstacle is not the sea or the bitter water—it's our own hearts. It's about whether we will see God for who he really is: a God who sees us, fights for us, delivers us, and makes good on his promises. Will we see ourselves as ransomed, delivered, no longer slaves but God's very own possession? At Marah, God showed Moses a tree—a healing tree. God told him to throw the tree into the bitter waters, and the poison was absorbed. Healing was released. The picture is clear: God, in his great love, knowing our tendency to despair, provided a healing tree—a foreshadowing of the cross, where Jesus absorbed our poison and released his life into us. God's answer for our heart is himself, offered for us on the tree. He makes a way through the impassable, so humanity can be released into true life. This life is meant to be lived in faith, trusting the God who is good, believing that he has truly transformed us through his great act of deliverance and love. We are no longer slaves, but his. The healing life of that tree is for you, right now, today. My prayer is that I'll see this by faith, that I'll hold on to this gift as I read and reflect on my life. That I will possess the one who has possessed me. That I'll adore him, worship, sing, and even dance. And that's a prayer that I have for my own soul, for my family—for my wife, my daughters, and my son—and that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S DEVOTION: It was a night to remember. A horrific night. Judgment struck the firstborn of Egypt, but not for everyone. For those who put the blood of a spotless lamb over their doorposts, death would pass by. For those who were covered by the Lamb, for them there was life. John alludes to this in the first chapter of his Gospel. He says, look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. And Paul later on says in First Corinthians 5, Christ is our Passover lamb who has been sacrificed for us. And later on in his second Epistle to the Corinthians, he says this in chapter five, God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not counting their sins against them. Over and over again through the Scriptures, we see that the Lamb came to cover everyone. We see God's reconciling work by the shedding of his blood for all. And with that sacrifice, Jesus has won our victory. He's won our peace with God. This is a day to be remembered. It's all pointing to the cross, to the life, the death, the resurrection, the ascension of Jesus. It's the beginning of days where life begins. It's the Gospel. The Israelites were told to eat this Passover meal with a staff in their hand. When God rescues us and frees us from our bondage to slavery and sin through his death, he does that fully intending that we start walking with him, participating with him in this new life that he has for us right here, right now, the advancing of his work right here, right now. Part of what this new life has purchased for us is the ability to walk with him. The Israelites had to go through the Red Sea, through the wilderness and into the land of Canaan. And we, like them, have been invited to go on a life changing walk with him. This walk of life takes us into the land of promise and blessing. And it's not just out there, it's right here today, as you're listening to this podcast. You're listening as a free woman, a free man, somebody who has been delivered by the spotless lamb of God. He has wrapped you up and included you in his community, a community that is on a walk with him into a new day, a day that's free. Free from the slavery that you once lived under. You are no longer a slave. No. You are his child. You are a citizen. You are a part of the community. You've been drawn in. You've been made his. This redemption, this salvation that you have experienced is for today. And today you can begin to live in the joy and the wisdom, the strength and the confidence of it. Today you can confidently grow into the person that you really are. Not a slave, but a loved child of God. That is what you are. And the prayer of my own heart today is that I will begin to live more confidently in that reality. And that's a prayer that I have for my family too, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Prayer is rooted in approaching God as “Our Father,” recognizing His holiness, aligning ourselves with His will, trusting Him for daily provision, seeking forgiveness while extending forgiveness to others, and asking for protection and deliverance, as modeled by Jesus in the Lord's Prayer. Rather than being formulaic or performative, prayer is meant to be sincere, disciplined, and motive-driven, practiced both privately and spontaneously, as seen in the lives of Jesus, Daniel, and the early church. Through prayer, believers invite God's presence, receive wisdom, peace, comfort, and provision, and are reminded that God already knows their needs and desires a close, loving relationship with His children. Let's open our hearts to God's word and remember: you are loved, no doubt about it. TODAY'S DEVOTION: TODAY'S DEVOTION: Jesus meets these two men on the way to a little town outside of Jerusalem. It's a seven-mile walk and the town is called Emmaus. Their hearts are dejected, their hopes and aspirations dashed. They're broken. Having followed Jesus through his ministry, they had hoped that he was the Messiah. They had seen many of his miraculous signs and they were overcome by his amazing teaching and thought, "This could be it. This might be the man." Yet three days prior, they had seen that man that they had pinned all their hopes on crucified. Now the story that they hoped for had come to an end. So they thought. But it's here, at this moment, when their hearts are at their darkest and their hopes are most broken, that Jesus shows up. He's veiled to them, but eventually he's going to unveil Himself and show them who He really is. At this point, veiled Jesus reminds them of some things they should have known, things they should have seen. Luke writes that Jesus says to them, "You foolish people, you find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures. Wasn't it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before he entered his glory?" And then, this stranger on the road begins to take them through the writings of Moses and the prophets, and he explains from the Scriptures what they should have been able to see. There are things that we should be able to see that Jesus can reveal to us. Luke says he took them through the Scriptures concerning himself. He explains who the Messiah is. He is offering them a way—a way of seeing, seeing things that they should have been able to see, things about God, things about themselves, things about love. He is showing them that He is the way that we begin to regain our sight: to see what is true about ourselves, about God, about the world, about what is true. We are on a journey. These two are on a journey to Emmaus, and they're trying to talk their way clear on this profound disappointment in their life. They're disappointed with what they believe to be true. They're disappointed that God didn't somehow change the circumstances, that Jesus didn't meet their expectations. They're disappointed with the world and the way it is. They're disappointed with themselves. No doubt they had hope for something and they thought that that hope had let them down. Maybe you are on your own journey to Emmaus, or maybe you know what that's like. Maybe you are disappointed—disappointed that God didn't come through the way you thought he would, that things haven't worked out. Maybe you're disappointed with yourself. Maybe you had hopes that didn't pan out. Maybe today we can pay close attention and see the way that Jesus is inviting us to see. Maybe today we can pay close attention to the presence of God with us. He might be unrecognizable at first, but maybe we can pay special attention and listen to Him. If we do, He will often open up the Scriptures to help us to see things that we should have seen all along. Maybe He will reveal Himself in the breaking of bread, and you'll see that He has been with you through it all—even the disappointments, the hopes unrealized. Maybe if we keep listening and walking, we'll discover His way of seeing: seeing the world, seeing ourselves, seeing our neighbors, seeing all things through love. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. TODAY'S DEVOTION: All hell was breaking loose. And Luke tells us that the people rested. The horrors of this day, the day of Christ's suffering, are culminating in a moment of rest. The women from Galilee who had witnessed Jesus' body being taken down from the cross went home on that horrific day thinking they still had work to do. We're told in verse 56 that they went home and prepared spices and ointments to anoint his body. But by the time they were finished, the Sabbath had begun. So they rested from their work. Even after all of these horrors, they thought that there was still work to be done. What they did not know was that Jesus, on this Good Friday, had completed all the work necessary. So now theirs was to rest. Now the Sabbath had really come. Jesus finished the work so that the girls could rest. He finished the work so that you and I could find rest. On that Friday, Jesus went to work for bystanders and mocking soldiers. He went to work for reluctant Pilate and indulged Herod. He went to work for guilty Barabbas and Simon the Cyrene. Jesus went to work for sign makers, cross builders, common criminals, gamblers, good and righteous men like Joseph of Arimathea, and heartbroken women who are forced to watch at a distance. Jesus was finishing his work on that Friday so that we all could find rest. Jesus was giving his everything. He was working hard. He did for us what we could not do for ourselves. He has done the work—the work of redeeming, rescuing, forgiving the sins of the world. He forgave us because we did not know what we were doing. That's why he came to us. Because we don't know. We're trapped and blinded, unable to save ourselves. We don't know what we're doing. Jesus said so himself on the cross, "Father, forgive them. They don't know what they are doing." Athanasius says, what then was God to do when he saw humanity spiraling into non-being? What was God to do because they didn't know? He would send his Son. Our Lord Jesus would come to rescue us so that at last our eyes would be opened and we would be awakened to life and rest in him. That rest belongs to you. It belongs to all of humanity. He made it free out of the abundance of his heart of love. He did that work. There's nothing left for me to do other than to step in, to say yes, to receive freely the rest that there is in him. And that's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Today, we will read the passage that contains what became known as The Lord's Prayer—Matthew 6:6-13. The words of Jesus.But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. “When you pray, don't babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don't be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.The time we invest in prayer is going to pay dividends as we live our life. The time in private with God is going to be seen in public with others because prayer changes us, changes our thinking, and changes our circumstances. Jesus says that the key to our prayers doesn't lie in repetition to Him but in relationship with Him.With this in mind, listen again to the passage from the Message translation. Jesus says to you, and IThe world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what's best—as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. Everything he spoke has proven to be true. The power and certainty in Jesus' words invite us to awaken, to have our eyes opened to the living Christ before us. What do we believe? Do we believe all this is happening according to his plan? Do we believe that, just as he knew the path before him, he knows the path before us—the fears, the corners we feel backed into, the failures and weakness we carry? He knows. And he comes to sit with us in those dark corners. He seeks out the exact places we feel stuck and forgotten. These are the people he came to rescue, forgive, die for, and live for. Ours is not to offer witness, but to receive—receive his presence, his table, his forgiveness. And when we are strengthened by his love and grace, ours is to serve others and extend that same grace. All that has happened—his life, his death, his resurrection—is for us. Just as he was faithful to fulfill his promises and show his true identity as the Son of God, he is faithful to us today. Let us trust and believe. Let us sit at his table. Let us be strengthened and serve. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. Has anyone ever spoken words of blessing and life on behalf of God over your life? Has anyone ever spoken over you about God's design for you, his purposes yet to be fulfilled by him in you? Has anyone ever blessed you? You, me—we are made for that kind of blessing. You were created to be blessed. Our destiny is somehow wrapped up in this thing called blessing. When words of blessing fail to reach our ears or our life, there are hard consequences. We are restless until we find that blessing from God, that blessing that you were made for. Many of you may be able to say that you have received those kinds of words. You have been blessed in this way. People have spoken words on behalf of God over you. They have recognized what God is doing in your life, how he has made you so uniquely, what he has called and created you for. And those words have made all the difference. But I'd guess that many, if not most of you, have not heard or received those words of blessing. You need to know that you were made for it, that God wants you to hear those words of life spoken over you by him. He wants you to know how uniquely you have been made, how important you are, that you matter, that you have a purpose. That he loves you and desires to bless you. He wants you to know it. My prayer is that as you meet him, as we come to him each day through the Word, as you invite him to open your heart and mind and eyes in your everyday life, you will hear him speak. You will hear his words of blessing over you, hear him speak deeply into your life and know that you are loved. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. Two of the three servants described in this parable saw it. They saw a gift. They saw an opportunity. They were chosen by the king to steward his riches. They had no riches of their own. They had the opportunity to be made wealthy by someone else's wealth. They would be honored by the king, and that honor would be multiplied simply by investing money that wasn't even theirs, simply by participating in the gifts that were given to them by the king. They harvested riches where they did not plant. They were given cities that they had no hand in building. That is the kind of king that we serve. He is a generous and loving king. So much so that he blesses us with things that we haven't earned and don't deserve. He has chosen us to invest his riches, and then he multiplies our honor even beyond that. What a generous, kind, loving king he is. Two of the three servants saw it. One servant of the king got it all wrong. His response to the generous king was, "Master, I hid your money and I kept it safe. I was afraid because you're a hard man to deal with, taking things that aren't yours, harvesting crops that you don't plant." This guy is deceived about who the master is—what the master's heart is truly like—and who he himself is. He has forgotten that he is a servant and that he has a responsibility to that king. That's his role. That's who he is. He has forgotten his identity. Apart from the king, he has no riches and he's forgotten this and missed the loving, generous heart of the king. Our King wants to reward, honor, and multiply his blessings upon us. May we invest our loving king's riches because we have seen his heart, because we've been reminded of who we are. That's a popular sentiment these days. It's used in sports, in business; it's found on t-shirts and bumper stickers. Giving up is easy. I've done it way too much in my life. I've given up on goals, I've given up on hopes, I've given up on relationships. I'm sad to say that I've given up on way too much that I needed to hold on to in this life. And I've also held on to things I should have given up long ago—resentments, anger, my need to be right, my need for approval. I've held on to these things way too long. Maybe you can relate. It seems like the trick is to give up on the wrong things and never give up on the right things. In Luke 18, Jesus says that we should keep praying and never give up. Prayer seems to be connected to our ability to hold on to the right things. Prayer is a two-way conversation; it's relational. We share our hearts, our fears, our failures, our life with Him. And He shares His life, His word, His heart, His hopes for us. It's a two-way thing. God is speaking to us in prayer, and we are listening to His voice and His leading. We hear from Him, we respond, and we worship Him. Without this relationship, giving up is inevitable. It's just way too easy. But when we pray, we are given the strength to hold on, to endure, to never give up. In today's reading, we hear Jacob listening to God speak to him, late at night, in a place called Beersheba. The last time God spoke to Jacob in Beersheba was many years ago, when he was preparing to leave home, fleeing from his brother. He laid his head on a rock and saw a stairway to heaven with the Lord at the top, and God promised him the land and descendants as numerous as the dust of the earth. Now, years later, God comes to him once again, and again Jacob is having to leave the land God had promised to him. It didn't look like the promise would be fulfilled anytime soon—Jacob was headed in the opposite direction, would even die in a different land without seeing the promise fulfilled. But out in the distance, too far for Jacob to see, God was bringing about the fulfillment of all He had promised. Jacob needed to keep on praying and never give up. God told him that Joseph, his son, would be with him to the end. For us, someone even greater than Joseph is with us—not Jacob's son but God's Son, who will be with us to the very end. Hebrews 11:13 reminds us that all these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. So keep praying. Never give up. God is faithful. If we live a life of faith, a life of prayer, a life in relationship with Him, then we will have the strength we need to never give up. He who promised is faithful; He will fulfill all His promises. We are the recipients of the promise made to Jacob. That promise that Jacob never got to see with his earthly eyes—God has fulfilled. Most of you aren't from the nation of Israel, yet you are the fulfillment of that promise. You have been included in the blessing. So let's keep praying. Let's never give up. God's Son is with us, and He will be with us to the very end. He will close our eyes, and He will wake us up. Hallelujah. That's a prayer I have for my own soul. Life can feel like it creeps along day by day, as Shakespeare said in Macbeth: "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day…Life's but a walking shadow...full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." When we are trapped in the ordinary, we can easily miss seeing Jesus, the One who is life Himself, standing right before us. But the invitation today is to see differently. It is to break free from the endless, blinding loop of business as usual and to notice the kingdom of God breaking in—even today. Hunter reminds us that it wasn't in the crowd bustling about that found the kingdom, but the one leper who returned to Jesus, falling at His feet in gratitude. That's where the kingdom life is discovered: at the feet of Jesus. He is the King standing among us—the King who has broken into our world, offering cleansing, renewal, and life right now to all who will come. Are you ready to see Him? Are you ready to step out of the business-as-usual mindset and approach Jesus as that one thankful leper did? The Kingdom is here; the King is here, offering His life to you today. Are you convinced that what we see in this world isn't all there is? That's the question that Jesus poses to us today. In his teaching, he warns about the seductive power of wealth and the way it can blind us, casting a soul-numbing spell and fooling us into thinking that this present life is all that matters. You can't have an affair with money and still be married to God. You can't love both. Jesus says, "No one can serve two masters, for you will hate one and love the other. You'll be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money." Jesus gives us the odd story of the shrewd manager, saying the trick is to use our resources wisely—not for self, but for the sake of others, for friendship, for eternity. "Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to your eternal home." The connection is clear in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man: it's not the riches that mattered, but where the heart was anchored. In his poverty, Lazarus was shrewd—he trusted God, he made friends in the world to come. He lived a life of faith, knowing his deep need for God. We too must be shrewd, arranging our lives by faith, loving God more than money, holding onto him in trust and dependence. One of the most tragic things would be to come to the end of this life and realize we missed it all, blinded by pride, possessions, and successes—making this life all about us, failing to heed the words of Moses, the prophets, and the teachings of Jesus. Instead, let's love God more than money. When we do, we'll find the home, the joy, the life for which we were made. May we be people who see clearly, who love shrewdly, and who hold onto God above all things. That's a prayer I have for my own soul, for my family, and that is a prayer that I have for you. He's lived life on his own terms, and it hasn't worked out so well. When he returns, he's greeted with a kiss, a ring, a coat, a party. He's not only found his father, but he's found his father's heart. There's celebration. There's restoration. But there's another brother, too—the older brother. He needs to come home just as much. Yet we don't find him inside the house. He's close by, out working in the field, slaving away, trying to achieve, trying so hard. But he fails to see that home has been his all along. He misses who his father truly is. He won't come inside. The father pleads with him, but he's caught up in his own pain: "All these years I have slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And all this time, you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends." That hurts. Maybe because we can feel it ourselves sometimes, working, striving, thinking that joy and acceptance must be earned. But the father's response tells us everything: "Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours." This home, this heart, these riches—have always been yours. They're a gift. No one is treating you like a slave, so stop seeing yourself that way. You haven't had to earn or perform or do anything other than be my child. All you had to do was receive and know the Father's heart, which delights in a son—delights in you—and delights when what was lost is found. So step inside the house. Partake in the party that your good Father has always had for you. Come on home. Let your heart know and receive this truth: you are not a slave—you are a son or a daughter. The Father's heart is yours. The joy is yours. Join the celebration. That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family. That's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. And putting ourselves at the head of the table will inevitably lead to our humiliation and our ruin. That's what this Pharisee and these teachings in Luke 14 point out. And inevitably, when we make this life about us, we miss out altogether on the party that God has prepared. That's what it seems to tell us here in this parable of the banquet. There's nothing wrong with having land or oxen, having a wife. There's nothing bad about these things. These are blessings. These are—these are and can be very good. But when they become ultimate things, they blind us to the gift that God is offering us. Because they become idols. And idols inevitably blind us. They fool us into thinking that we are the main character in this movie, that this life is my project, it's my story. We imagine that we sit at the head of the table in our own movie. Our spouse, our parents, our children—they are the supporting cast. We can begin to think that maybe it's all about us. And this posture in life will lead to a rude awakening someday. That's why Jesus says that we have to hate all of it in comparison to our love for God, because in the end, it will rob us of life. And the prayer of my own heart today is that I will see the richness and the reward, the party that has been prepared for those who receive and participate, who repent and believe that every good and perfect gift comes down from God, the Father of Lights, that he is the Source, and that every human being, no matter how humble they might be, have been invited into his very life. The prayer of my own soul is that I will sit there at the foot of the table with great joy at the life that I have in him; that I will learn the ways of self-giving love and follow him. That's a prayer that I have for my family too—for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S DEVOTION: A walking stick and a mustard seed. Have you ever thought about what God can do with something small, something seemingly insignificant? In today's reading, Hunter points us to Jacob, a man who left home with nothing but a walking stick. Yet by God's faithfulness, he returned with more than he could have imagined. In the same breath, Jesus describes the kingdom of God as a mustard seed—so tiny at first that you can easily overlook it, but once planted, it grows into the largest of all the garden plants. A walking stick and a mustard seed—both are symbols of faith, reminders that God delights in showing his greatness through what is humble and small, revealing his strength through what is weak. The journey of faith is not always triumphant in the ways we expect. It can often feel more like a wrestling match than a victory march. You'll wrestle—with your flesh, with your past, with the uncertainty ahead. There are hidden idols, hidden fears, secret shames—things that our earthly fathers can't see but our heavenly Father does. In the end, we must let them go. This life with God is a wrestling match above all with God himself. When we truly wrestle with him, we are changed—marked by the encounter. There may be a limp, a hitch in our step, a reminder that walking with God is not about our own strength, but about being emptied—so that Christ may live within us. Just as Jacob emptied himself, sending everything he had across the river, facing the night all alone—so, too, are we called, at times, to empty ourselves, to surrender, to cling desperately to God's blessing. It's in that emptiness, in surrender, where we receive a new name. Jacob became Israel. We, too, are promised a new identity, a new future, a new hope. Let him lead you across that river into what he has promised. Don't despise small beginnings or fear your frailty. When we are weak, he is strong. When our hands are empty, he fills them. And in wrestling, surrender, and faith, he makes us new. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Let us walk by faith, embracing the weakness and the smallness, knowing that God is in them and will show his strength through us. May we, too, be changed by meeting him face to face. In today's readings, we're confronted with an important question: will you force things and be a fool, or will you trust, rest, receive, and believe? There's this invitation to examine whose blessing we're truly seeking. Is it our own, through striving and scheming like Jacob, Rachel, and Leah? Or is it, as Jesus tells us, the blessing that comes from God—a blessing that leads to a rich relationship with him? The rich fool in Jesus' parable thought that security and blessing came from his own plans, his bigger barns, from storing up for himself and relying on his own resources. But Jesus reminds us, as he does his disciples, that blessing doesn't come from our hands; it comes from God's. When we seek blessing elsewhere—whether in possessions, in the approval of others, or our own ability to manipulate circumstances—we end up empty, left wanting and still searching. In the end, it's only God who can give us the true inheritance, the true blessing our souls crave. Jesus invites us away from anxious striving and fear. He says, "Look at the ravens… look at the lilies." He points to the way God provides for what he has made, how much more for us. The real blessing is not in the abundance of things, but in a rich relationship with God—a life lived trusting his love, resting in his care, and seeking the kingdom above all else. And so the call for us today is simple, but profound: let us seek his blessing by faith. Let's rest in the deep, deep love of Jesus, believing the good news that, in him, we have been embraced, forgiven, and made God's own. When we live in this reality, that blessing begins to look like a life of peace, joy, and trust—a rich relationship with the Lord who loves us. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family—for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Let's walk together, step by step, in this daily journey of faith! TODAY'S DEVOTION: He's angry. These teachers are a bunch of fakes. He's angry because these teachers of His Word ought to be offering people something real, something true. He's angry because they're a bunch of religious, self-righteous, self-serving hypocrites, and Jesus is none too happy about it. They're telling lies about God, and the main one is a lie of separation. God is separate, he's distant, and he's angry. He's angry until you perform the right religious duties, until you wash your hands the right way, until you wash your cup in just the right way, until you give the right amount of everything that you own in just the right way. Even the herbs in your garden and a thousand other things like this were all used as a way of ensuring that you knew that God was separate from you, that he was angry with you. And this message of separation served these guys well. They leveraged it for coercion and control, for power, prestige, and money. They used this lie to become important in the eyes of those with power. They liked to walk around with their flowing robes in the marketplaces. They liked when important people, powerful people, recognized them and honored them. All the while the people suffer. Jesus looked at this and declared it hogwash. He called them hypocrites, snakes, vipers. In effect, Jesus says, you say that you speak for God, but you don't know God. If you knew God, you would know his justice, not yours, which is so rarely just. You would know his love—his love which declares that God is not separate. Rather, God is here. He is with us, and God is for all people. He is wanting his people and his priests who use his name to tell the truth, to demonstrate the love and justice of God, to live in the reality of the God who is with us, the God who is their present king, because it's true and the world so desperately needs it. If you read the Bible and you're left with a God who is separate, distant, petty, and angry, more concerned with how much turmeric you tithe than he is about you loving your neighbor and knowing that you are loved, then you've been sold a lie and you have completely missed the point of who he is. Because the point of his word is to show us that God is for us, not against us. That God is good. That God is not petty, but abounding in grace and mercy. That God is present and he is full of love. This was the message of all the prophets. God. God is with you, people. Wake up. Wake up to the God who is with you. He's angry that religion has become a way to crush people's spirits with unbearable religious demands rather than something that sets them free and makes them new. Jesus begins this reading in Luke by telling us that God is something completely different than what the Pharisees are selling. Jesus says God's not like that. God is good. When you ask him for good things, he doesn't give you scorpions and snakes. He's a good father. Don't let circumstances and the seeming delay in God's response to your need dissuade you from the truth of his kindness. Like the man who's knocking and seeking and asking for bread, God comes through. So keep asking, keep knocking, keep seeking. God's not angry with you. Don't let others or the circumstances prevent you from knowing the kind of father that you really have. Your Father knows what it's like to give his children good gifts. Earthly fathers know what it's like to do that. How much more will our good Father give good gifts if we ask for them? Jesus is angry at the evil in this world that keeps people from knowing and experiencing his loving kindness. God's not angry with you. What's the gift the good Father is giving? He's giving himself. He's giving the Holy Spirit. How much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him? He is offering himself to be with us and in us. Pray that God will renew your mind so that you will no longer see your Father as separate from you and angry with you, but rather as good and kind. He wants to give you everything. May your soul, may my soul, may we know this well today. That's my prayer. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... TODAY'S DEVOTION: Jesus is telling a secret, and he is thrilled at the thought of it. In Luke 10, verse 21, we find Jesus filled with joy through the Holy Spirit, saying, "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way." This secret fills both the Father and the Son with great joy. So what is this secret? The secret is Jesus himself. He is the way to God, the way to life. He is what every heart is looking for. Jesus is the King, and he is proclaiming the kingdom. Jesus is the secret to it all. It's not the law, not traditions or piety, but living in the name, the power, and the presence of God. The God who is with us and for us. When Jesus sends out the 72, notice he tells them not to take anything with them—no bag, no money, no staff, nothing but his name. The only thing they are equipped with is the name of Jesus. The "with God life" isn't about our resources, our money, our provisions, but only about him. They are to go with his name, his message, his blessing, and his presence to the world. This is the "with God life"—a life of utter reliance on God, of being available to his presence and his agenda. When we allow him to lead, we end up fulfilling the law, becoming people of mercy, like the Good Samaritan. We participate with Christ; his power works in and through us. We're not the hero—Christ in us is. That's the secret: his presence in you, which Paul says is your hope of glory. Let's live in the reality of Christ in us. Let's awaken to the wonder of stepping out into the day simply in his name—not striving, not pushing or fretting, but knowing our real life is hidden with God in Christ. Our truest self is found in learning more and more to love God, our neighbor, and ourselves. Today, walk with him, eyes and ears wide open to his presence in you. Let him lead, and let him fill you with his joy. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, for my daughters, for my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. What do you think the prevailing message of Jesus is? You would think that'd be a pretty easy question to answer. But I'm guessing that in a room full of people, there'd be many different kinds of answers to that question. But in Luke 9, as well as throughout the Gospels and in the Book of Acts, we're told many times very plainly what that message is. The central prevailing message of the Bible and of Jesus is the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is here and the king is Jesus. And this king has come to reconcile the world to God. His rule and authority are being made known wherever he goes. He uses that in the feeding of the multitudes, the healing of the demon possessed, the opening up of the eyes of the blind, the healing of the lame, those who can't speak and hear. He is the king. And wherever he goes, the kingdom is showing up. Citizenship in this kingdom is being made available to ordinary people. His life is being offered and extended to the whole world, to us broken folks. And the good news of that kingdom is that God has made a way through Christ to reconcile us, to make us new, to make us citizens and bring us under his rule and reign, to make us his. By his death on the cross, he has reconciled us to himself. And now by the Spirit of God, he has empowered us to manifest his kingdom life, to live it out, the very life of his Son. As Jesus walks with us through our life, the kingdom shows up. The result of his kingdom life in us is freedom, joy, love, the fruit of the Spirit. And when we do that, we are set free. We're set free from our past, our regrets, our shame. And we live in the joy of forgiveness and our adoption and inclusion in the very life and love of God. The one sitting on the throne said, look, I'm making everything new, everything. And we see it wherever Jesus goes. There is power in the King. There's power in his abiding life with us. And this king has made you his own. You are a citizen and he is your king. Let us live as citizens of the kingdom of God. Let us embrace this message of the abiding and saving life, the reconciling life of Christ. Let us be ambassadors of this message of our great King. Let's tell people that they have been reconciled in Christ. See it, believe it, repent, change your mind and step into the life that is yours. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my own family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so.
