And guess what? We're joined by the incredible Patrick H. Willems, YouTube's own cinema savant, to dissect the film and sip on some fine whiskey. Brad gives us the rundown, from the iconic train crash scene to the heart-pounding manhunt that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Patrick H. Willems brings his unique perspective, adding layers to our understanding of the film's narrative and technical mastery. Then, we shift gears to the world of whiskey, where the Green River Straight Rye awaits. This Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey brings a complexity and depth that pairs perfectly with the intricacies of The Fugitive. We wrap up with our traditional Two Facts and a Falsehood, challenging Patrick (and you listeners!) before diving into our final analysis. What makes The Fugitive stand the test of time? How does Green River Rye embody the spirit of Kentucky's whiskey tradition? All this and more, topped off with our scores for both the film and the whiskey. Don't forget to check out Patrick H. Harold Ramis is dood. What are unloved movie masterpieces? Well, they are the films that get rated the lowest by critics and audiences. Sometimes they can be downright bad, other times they are simply very challenging.   Who better to join this very first English movie draft on Thumb Wrestling, than two avid defenders of movies that have received too little praise in the past. Veteran podguests Theodoor Steen and Ashley Walker return, to shine a new bright light on titles that can use all the love they can get.   You can find the lists and vote on: http://www.thumbwrestling.nl    To get to these lists, we played a movie draft!   The game: three candidates pick a movie one by one. Six categories must be filled, and each movie can be selected only once in the whole game. Also, after every round of picks, we reverse the order in which we can choose a movie. Third time's the charm for returning guest (and video essayist extraordinaire) Patrick H. Willems, as we strap ourselves into the driver's seat for a pair of gonzo Cage-rage drivin' devil movies! First up is Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the Neveldine/Taylor-directed sequel to the 2000s adaptation of the Marvel comic character, with Cage reprising his role as cursed cyclist Johnny Blaze. This time, he's scraping at the door in Romania, going full Terminator 2 as he keeps the Devil (a scowling Ciaran Hinds) away from his kid. Meanwhile, Neveldine and Taylor do their Crank thing to mixed results, and Idris Elba is completely wasted as a French motorcycle priest(?) obsessed with helping the good guys. Then, we shift gears to Patrick Lussier's Drive Angry 3-D, a faux-grindhouse pastiche filled with more lolrandom epic bacon humor and random CG objects popping out at the screen than you could imagine. Still, it's got a lowbrow charm to it, and William Fichtner somehow out-acts Cage as a smarmy Accountant from the underworld who's chasing Cage's hell-escapee grandpa and his sexy waitress sidekick (Amber Heard).  Pledge to our Patreon at patreon.com/travoltacage Follow us on Twitter @travoltacage Email us questions at travoltacagepod@gmail.com Podcast theme by Jon Biegen Podcast logo by Felipe Sobreiro

This week on the podcast, YouTuber video essayist extraordinaire Patrick H. Willems hops back on the mic with us for another pair of misguided, xenophobic action pictures! First, there's Bangkok Dangerous, a messy mix of John Woo and Wong Kar-Wai involving an American assassin (Cage) traipsing around Thailand for his next kill, only to find strange purpose among the people (and spicy food!) of the place. Too bad this remake of a 1999 Thai action flick is shockingly low in energy and style, and Cage just doesn't look happy to be here. The same can't be said for the Luc Besson-produced From Paris With Love, a fatty bit of EuropaCorp sleaze that pairs a buttoned-down Jonathan Rhys Meyers with a bald, goateed American pig-dog Travolta as they jaunt around Paris with vases of coke and set about stopping an Islamist terrorist attack. It's as perversely fun as it is horrendously racist, which is an...interesting dynamic to try to navigate! Een echt human being. For this week's decidedly strange double feature, YouTube video essayist extraordinaire Patrick H. Willems hops into the driver's seat as we gawk at the baffling combination of Swordfish and 2003's Christmas Carol: The Movie! First, we put on our wraparound sunglasses and low-rise jeans to time-warp back to the gossamer pre-9/11 months of 2001, where the world was still riding high from Matrix fever and Dominic Sena tried to hop on that bandwagon with the ridiculous hacker-action-thriller Swordfish. It's the high-octane tale of a down-on-his-luck, incredibly handsome hacker (Hugh Jackman) roped into a criminal scheme by an over the top mastermind (John Travolta, slapping his Vincent Vega mullet back on and adding a landing strip) and his mysterious femme fatale (Halle Berry, whose topless scene was basically the main draw for horny teens). You know, cinema! Then we've got a dinky, low-stakes animated version of A Christmas Carol from the director of When the Wind Blows, a perfunctory retelling that mostly serves as an excuse for Nic Cage to show up for four minutes as Jacob Marley (sporting zero charisma and zero British accent). Which one is more bizarrely interesting? Which one do we have more to talk about? Which one has a more accurate depiction of the world of computer hacking? Listen and find out! Okay everybody - it’s time to class up this joint! Let’s talk CINEMA. Let’s discuss the least likely Mike Nichols’ film of all time, 1994’s WOLF with Jack Nicolson & Michelle “White Gold” Pfeiffer. And just to make sure we take it seriously, we’re joined by filmmaker & premiere YouTube video essayist, Patrick H. Willems!! Secure your monocles, cause they’re about to pop out of your eye!! Along the way, we ask if James Spader satisfies as a lover, we consider what was Richard Jenkins like as a baby, evaluate what it must be like for two of the biggest movie stars in the world to eat PB&Js on camera, and wonder if becoming a wolf is a solid anti-depressant. Plus, we surprise Patrick Willems with an extended discussion of Edward James Olmos’ wang! Also, we have a very urbane edition of Choose Your Own Death-venture and we pitch Sydney Pollack’s Invisible Man! Never fear - new episodes of Kill By Kill are made available every other Friday! By a listener's suggestion, Laci and Matt discuss 1988's animated/live-action/neo-noir PG-rated sex comedy Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The whole gamut of topics is covered, including: 1) Roger Rabbit's star power (Is Roger Rabbit supposed to be as famous and popular within the reality of the film as Bugs Bunny was in our reality? And if so, how popular was Bugs himself within the Roger-verse?) 2) Kids' ability to just watch movies and not need to have everything explained to them 3) Animators don't get the credit they deserve 4) The bizarre cultural artifact that is Cool World and animated movies that look like kids' movies but are actually aimed at adults 5) Matt has a controversial take on how great a movie this is All that and much more!  Also, this video essay by Patrick (H) Willems is mentioned in the episode, and is highly recommended: https://youtu.be/JKe8qCzPdkI

Alec Baldwin chews more scenery than a Hungry Hungry Hippo. Oh, did we mention Tim Curry and Sir Ian McKellan are also in this movie? That's real. Yes, this movie happened.
