"Everyone has two things in common; everyone has their demons, and everyone wants one thing, to be truly happy." - Pete White Pete White is a mental health consultant, speaker & author. Using lived experience of mental illness to transform the way we view and tackle mental health. He was an engineer in the Royal Air Force and served in Afghanistan in 2011. He developed Post-traumatic stress disorder and severe depression, while his life fell apart around him, at my lowest point he began suffering psychotic episodes and many times felt on the verge of ending his life. After years of therapy, multiple medications and hundreds of hours invested into my personal development and recovery things didn't just improve, I was a completely different person. He published my book ‘From the bottom of the barrel' in early 2019 and was blown away by its reception. This fueled his desire to end the toxic stigma around mental health and show people suffering that they are not alone and they can make it through. According to the White House, there have been 3.6 million official eviction filings so far in 2022. We should expect the number of eviction filings to increase, given that Data from the US Census Bureau's Household Pulse Survey released in 2021 found approximately 4.2 million adults report being at risk of eviction or foreclosure in July and August. The data indicated that those facing eviction are significantly more likely to be Black, Indigenous, Latinx, or other people of color. Analysis by PolicyLink (Cal Matters) indicates that about 900,000 households in California are behind on rent, with an average of $4,600 in rental arrears. Today on Sojourner Truth guest host Nana Gyamfi is joined by Pete White, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Community Action Network aka LACAN. LA CAN's constituency consists of extremely low-income and homeless people, primarily those living in Downtown LA and South Central LA. Christina Griffin and Natasha Brown of the California Black Power Network join Nana to discuss how they keep the fire burning for people-powered change. Finally, Nana welcomes Onyemma Obiekea, the Policy Analyst for Black Women for Wellness (BWW) and its sister organization, Black Women for Wellness Action Project (BWWAP). Onyemma began her work in Reproductive Justice (RJ) as Program Coordinator for BWW's Get Smart B4U Get Sexy Program the comprehensive sex and sexuality education program of the Organization's RJ focused Project, Sisters in Control. Since then, she has continued her work in RJ in varying capacities and currently works on behalf of BWW/AP, to advance intersectional, transformative legislation that seeks to secure the health and wellbeing of Black women and Girls throughout California.

Brandon Kramer (pictured center) is the Director of, and Pete White is a participant in, The First Step, a documentary that follows CNN correspondent/progressive Van Jones, as he controversially crosses party lines to fight for bipartisan support for criminal justice reform and a more humane response to the addiction crisis during a divisive administration. The film...
In this revealing observational portrait of political courage, Brandon Kramer's THE FIRST STEP, focuses his lens on Black progressive activist and political commentator Van Jones as he faces a polarized society head on in an effort to reform a broken criminal justice system. Jones, known for calling Donald Trump's election “a whitelash” live on primetime TV, navigates increasingly tense and isolating political and racial divides in his attempt to become a “bridge builder” during the Trump administration. Condemned by the right for his progressive beliefs, and by the left for embracing conservatives, this fraught and cinematically captured personal journey questions his integrity from all sides, forcing him to consider not only his activism but his own identity. THE FIRST STEP takes us behind the scenes of these dramatic power struggles, from internal divisions within both parties, to the lives of activists fighting on the frontlines for their communities. The First Step features Louis L. Reed, Jessica Jackson, Virgie Walker, Pete White, Tylo James. Including Jared Kushner, Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Shelly Capito, Senator Rand Paul, Senator Mike Lee, Congresswoman Karen Bass, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, Patrisse Cullors, Charlemagne Tha God, Karen Hunter, and Kim Kardashian. Director Brandon Kramer joins us to talk about the daunting challenge faced by Van ones as he attempts to find the common ground of common interest and policy reforms that will benefit all Americans, while being vilified by many of the same people he is working with. This bonus episode on Driver 1: Gentrification, Homelessness and Displacement features a candid conversation with Pete White, the founder and Executive Director of the Los Angeles Community Action Network (LA CAN) discussing the houselessness epidemic in Los Angeles. Pete recounts the rich and tumultuous history of housing in Los Angeles within a lens of race, policy and systems change, and economic disinvestment. The conversation elevates the intersections between Driver 1 and the other drivers of disparity such as poverty, disinvestment, and policing which further emphasizes the collective cumulative negative impact of these drivers on the health of Los Angeles residents. The episode concludes with Pete’s analysis of how to tackle systems change within these different drivers.
California–known to the world as the home of Hollywood stars, relaxed beach vibes, and…the location of 25% of the homeless population in the US.After an emotional introduction about the conflict between Israel and Palestine, and an update on how the billionaires in the world are faring, the Filmmaker and the Advocate sit down with Pete White, founder & Executive Director of Los Angeles Community Action Network (LA CAN) to talk about Skid Row, a 50-square block area in downtown LA that was created by the state to hide its poverty. Now that housing and land are the hottest commodities the world over, development and financialization are threatening to push the city’s poorest residents out of a space that was once designed to contain them. For Skid Row’s nearly 15,000 residents, riding out the pandemic was always going to be a feat of community action. With only seven public bathrooms available in those 50-square blocks, and charitable food donations grinding to a halt, how did this community protect itself from Covid-19 when the government wouldn’t? Pete walks Leilani & Fredrik through the historical and systemic causes of poverty and homelessness amongst people of color in Los Angeles and how those causes are still at work today. The trio also discusses the May 2021 legal case that attempts to address the houselessness in Skid Row, and Judge Carter’s controversial remedy. For more information on the work of LA CAN, visit: www.cangress.orgFor more information on Israel and Palestine, see Human Rights Watch report, “Threshold Crossed”: https://www.hrw.org/report/2021/04/27/threshold-crossed/israeli-authorities-and-crimes-apartheid-and-persecutionProduced by WG Film Recorded & Edited by Mikey JonesMusic by Florencia Di ConcilioSocial Media & Support Team - Maja Moberg, Valerie Estrina, Hanna LeanderSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/pushbacktalks)

On this episode we set the stage for an inquiry into the caddy. The caddy in the history of golf has played many roles. Along with the variety of roles the caddy has played in the history of the game the caddy still presents an interesting roll in the current game. Jon and Carter will be exploring these ideas in this episode and in next week's episode as well. Also in this weeks episode we are catching up with our friend Peter White. Pete had an amazing opportunity to go over seas and caddie for Victor Perez as he was working his way through the Challenge Tour then on to the European Tour. Pete opens up about some of his experiences inside the ropes with one of the best golfers in the world and also shares his passion for why he is obsessed with this game. Make sure you listen until the end to hear about the opportunity we have for the listeners. We look forward to hearing from you guys. Enjoy.

Join us for a look back at a time when Krampus wasn't old news. During production of the first season of the Venture Bros., Jackson Publick had the idea that Adult Swim could do a big Christmas special with all of their shows. When I bought our first electric vehicle earlier this year, I did what a lot of new car buyers do and went accessory shopping. It was not long before I started seeing ads for aftermarket accessory vendor Abstract Ocean, and reading about them on forums. Our guest today is Peter White, co-founder of Abstract Ocean. In 2013, Peter and his wife picked up their first Tesla. This week on the podcast, Tammi and Sondra are happy to share a conversation with Pete White. Fun fact, Pete was the only male to ever be in the Unruffled secret Facebook group, but that was only for a couple of weeks. When they decided it was to be female-identified only, he was gracious to leave and Pete extends the same graciousness with a good dose of humor to the online recovery space. They talk about rock bottoms, divorce, and what thriving looks like in recovery. You can learn more about Pete at https://peteonrepeat.com/ or follow him on Instagram @pete.on.repeat. This week, Pete shares three items from his Unruffled Toolbox: (1) The Cloud; (2) Audible; and (3) The Little Brown Compact Handbook.

We're traveling back in time for this one. Lexy talks with her dad, Pete White, who entered his 20's on December 16th, 1976. Join them for an always honest, always real conversation about how to embrace your 20's and lean on the people rooting for you.
After a traumatic tour in Afghanistan in 2011, Pete found himself experiencing troubling thoughts and feelings but didn't think much of it. Before long his mental health was spiralling out of control and his life would never be the same again. In 2016 was diagnosed with severe depression and PTSD and at his lowest was considered a danger to himself and others. That was when he had a decision to make, end it all now or find a way to fight on. He chose to fight and after a lot of specialist therapy, medication and personal development, he came out the other side a different man, but a better man. Pete learnt a lot on his journey, about himself, the wider world, mental health issues and how scary and lonely the world can be for those who are suffering. Now a published author, public speaker and running his own mental health training & consultancy business, Pete considers himself incredibly lucky to be able to use his experience to help others support themselves and others and to teach people what he considers his greatest lesson: It's when things seem worst that you must never quit, you are stronger than you think. At age 21 he joined the Royal Air Force. At 22 years old he was eagerly on his way to Afghanistan. Things took an unexpected turn there for him. He found himself in a bad spot- suffering from the crippling effects of PTSD and severe depression. After 7 years of that suffering, and a lot of medication & therapy, he was medically discharged from the military. Still mentally unwell and unsure of what he was going to do in his new life as a civilian, he made the tough decision to put his past behind him, take control and build the life that he wanted to live. Obsessed with the idea of personal success in every area of life, he developed methods and habits to channel his experience to benefit himself and others, creating his own version of success using his super-alert ADHD brain. Pete now spends his time helping other people to overcome their personal challenges, put their negative circumstances behind them, and create their own idea of success. He has recently written a book about his experiences named “From The Bottom Of The Barrel”. He generously shares his story with us here today. Enjoy! In this episode Peter & Pete discuss: 2:16- Intro & welcome Pete! 2:58- So, what led you to joining the military? 3:50- What led to your PTDS & depression after having such a good start? 5:43- A lot of people in the military, in this country anyway, still fight a strong stigma against mental repair. How did it go for you in the UK? 7:02- When people hear the phrase “the crippling effects of depression, or PTSD”, they don’t always comprehend what that means really, unless they’ve experienced them first hand. Would you share with us some of the effects you have experienced please? 8:45- What were some of the therapies that helped you get through it and climb out? ref: EMDR Therapy 11:48- The military is completely schedule-driven. Regimented. When you were discharged, you lost that order in your life. How did you handle that? 13:06- What do you tell people who are re-entering civilian life? 14:15- So, what prompted you to write this book: “From The Bottom Of The Barrel”? 15:43- Is it available on Amazon? YES via Amazon.co.uk 15:54- How can people find you? www.ImperiumLifeCoaching.com Facebook: @imperiumlifecoaching Via email: Pete@ImperiumLifeCoaching.com 16:34- Thank you Pete! Episode 6 Sobriety His Way with Pete White Pete White, aka Pete On Repeat on Instagram, began to unearth a life of purpose in the ruins of Alcoholism and Divorce in September of 2015, after a bittersweet sweet rock bottom. Since that time, Pete has gotten sober, quit smoking, lost 80lbs, and has helped hundreds of people get and stay sober and navigate divorce and co-parenting with my brass-tacks, no-nonsense account of my experience. Somehow, there's a bright side. In this episode, we talk with Pete about what led him to quit drinking, his final rock bottom, how a red-head stranger saved his life, and what divorce and being a single dad has looked like in his recovery. Pete shares, for the first time, what he did after he quit drinking to aid in his recovery, and what he does today to help him stay sober. Social media, especially Instagram, has become Pete's platform for sharing his story through beautiful and well-written posts that capture every detail of what sobriety has done for him and his relationship with his son. Questions and topics in this episode: What was your final rock bottom? What role did drinking play in your marriage and divorce? How did you know when it was time to get help? What (and who) helped you when you first quit drinking? What does life look like now as a sober dad? There is not one way to get sober or recover. Please visit Pete's Instagram and tell him hello - he would love to hear from you. Pete On Repeat We would love to hear from you too!
