Not because I buy every book about cricket – I don't – but because it was written by Jarrod Kimber. I have followed him for a while, I like the way he thinks, what he thinks about, and what other people say about him. Even without reading a sample of his book, Jarrod has a strong enough reputation I'm willing to buy it.That's what a business calls its customer value proposition (CVP): the reason people should buy from you.The same applies to future employees, and that's called your employee value proposition, or EVP. Why should they work with you?The best people have a choice of where they can work. As they are looking around, they assess organisations by their EVP. They don't use that phrase, but that's effectively what they do.So what do you project from the outside? What do the best people see that makes them even want to apply to work with you – and then to accept what you offer them?Your EVP is hugely important, and the way you create it has changed.In the past – pre-digital days – it used to be based on your premises, where you were located, what the office looked like, how they felt when they went in for an interview.Then, as we became more online, your EVP was defined by your website, your LinkedIn company page, the job ads you put out on SEEK, and your other public, outward-facing channels.Now, those things are still important, but it's also what other people – your current and past employees – say about you. People share their experiences in online forums, employer review sites like Glassdoor, Reddit threads, and so many other channels.If you don't have a strong EVP, it becomes much more difficult to attract the best people.Your EVP has three components:1. Culture: Do you even offer what the best people want in a workplace culture?2. Promise: How do you promote that culture to future employees?3. New research from the Center for Universal Education (CUE) at Brookings finds that technology’s impact on learning and teaching has been limited, especially in low- and middle-income countries, largely because tech has been used to replace analog tools. On this episode, two of the authors of a new report, titled, “Realizing the Promise: How can education technology improve learning for all?,” discuss their findings. Alejandro Ganimian is an assistant professor of applied technology and economics at New York University, and a CUE nonresident fellow. Emiliana Vegas is co-director of the center and a senior fellow in the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings. Click to access full show notes Hello!  Welcome to the RealFastResults.com podcast!  We have a very special treat for you.  Fred Stuvek is the special guest for this episode.  Fred has a very diverse background, and he has achieved great success in many areas of his life.  His wisdom can help you immensely, if it you choose to apply it.  Stuvek was born in West Virginia, raised in Pennsylvania, and he was actually inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements in football, basketball, baseball, and track.  He attended the United States Naval Academy, and there, he received three letters as the quarterback of the Midshipmen.  After his service in the Navy, serving as a naval officer, he transitioned into the business world, where he held senior leadership positions in both private and public companies, domestically and internationally. The key successes Fred has had include international medical imaging startups, which led to a very successful IPO (initial public offering) and forming private medical services groups that were subsequently sold.  So, from the playing field, to the war room, to the boardroom, Fred has proven his leadership throughout his accomplishments.  Additionally, Fred is the author of a book titled, It Starts with You, which teaches fundamental principles in management and leadership.  Please welcome Fred to the show… Promise: How to Avoid the Traps of First Time Authors Thank you for having me.  I look forward to a very lively discussion, and hopefully, this interview will prove valuable to all of you.  Life is about decisions.  The life you are living is the life that you’ve created, and it’s based upon the decisions that you have made and the habits that you have formed.  You aren’t a victim of circumstances, and you aren’t powerless.  You should not wait for success to happen because, if you do, it’s going to be a very long wait.  You have to take the initiative, seize control, create opportunities, and make something happen.  There is something that you can do to release the potential that’s within you, but it’s up to you.  This is a process that takes time, and it requires a plan, along with the commitment and discipline to follow through.  However, to do this, there are two things that you have to do.  You have to develop the mindset and habits for success, since how you think and how you act define you as a person. [bctt tweet="You have to understand that if you consistently do an event each year, the income can easily double." username="danielhall"] First of all, you should have an online presence of some sort.  That is primary.  Secondly, if you really want a rabid base of supporters, you either need to go out and speak at events, or eventually, I would highly recommend housing your own event.  There’s no more rabid of a fan base than with a person that raises their hand and says, “I’m willing to travel to be in a room with you for a day or two days, and learn from you, and get infused with your culture, your philosophy, and your methodology.”  You can’t ask for a better client, and those people tend to be your greatest clients, and your greatest, what I call, promoters of your brand and what you represent. Promise: How to Found a Business on "Product-o-cracy" First, thanks for having me.  I appreciate it.  I would say that the big result we’re looking for today is how to create a business that is founded on what I call a “product-o-cracy”.  That’s actually not discussed in Fastlane.  It’s discussed in the new book that I released, but a product-o-cracy allows business owners to grow virally.  It allows them to grow beyond a linear construct.  Essentially, it puts them in the driver’s seat to, pardon the phrase, “print money.” [bctt tweet="A “product-o-cracy” is based upon a unique product offering/service that is not offered by someone else." via="no"] A good example of a way to look at this is that there’s always a restaurant in your neighborhood, or in your city, that’s always crowded, but they don’t advertise.  That’s the essence of a product-o-cracy.  It’s when you have a product that is compelled by word-of-mouth and there’s an expansion, so the need to advertise becomes secondary. Download the Complete PDF Show Notes Free for this Episode A lot of entrepreneurs are not running product-o-cracies; they are running marketing firms.  So if they stop advertising, their business slowly starts to die.  That’s the difference between just a regular old business and a company that’s running a product-o-cracy.  A great example of a product-o-cracy is my book The Millionaire Fastlane.  I think that I must have spent $3,000 in total on promoting it since it was released seven or eight years ago.  The growth was not because I’m some kind of great marketer or because I hacked something.  The growth was because the product was good enough for people to recommend over and over, and that, in essence, is the product-o-cracy. Amy Collins is today’s special guest, and she is the former director of sales at Adam’s Media in Austin, Tx.  She’s also a specialty sales director for the parent company F+W Media.  She has been profitably selling to libraries since 1996, and in 2006, she started her successful book sales and marketing company, called New Shelves Books.  Over the years, she has sold to Barnes & Noble, Target, Costco, Borders, Books-A-Million, Walmart as well as becoming a trusted partner and recommended sales consultant for some of the largest book and library wholesalers in the industry.
