As many of you know, I am writing a book on everything I wish I knew when I was 18. One of the things I learned several years ago was the Dave Ramsey "baby steps" method to building wealth and achieving financial freedom. I highly recommend his book, Total Money Makeover! This method is referred to in MJ DeMarco's book, The Millionaire Fastlane, as the slow lane to wealth. While it may be slow, it is a proven strategy that is available to EVERYONE in America to build wealth and retire a millionaire. Dave Ramsey breaks it down into 7 steps. In my book, I remove one of the steps on purpose and I'll tell you why. Either way, if you have not heard about this before you're going to want to pull up a chair and take notes! This information can change your life forever! *Disclaimer, this is not investment advice In this episode I recommended Acorns for your emergency fund account. Has The Millionaire Fastlane been on your reading list? Learn the key insights now. We're scratching the surface here. If you don't already have MJ DeMarco's popular book on business and finance, order it here or get the audiobook for free to learn the juicy details. Introduction Are you tired of working long hours, saving all you can and trying to climb the corporate ladder? That's because you've been stuck in the Slowlane. What if you could instead make more money and have more free time away from work? If that sounds good, this book may just be the guide you need. The Millionaire Fastlane is about personal development and wealth-building. It was written by self-made millionaire and entrepreneur MJ DeMarco. DeMarco argues that the traditional path to wealth and financial success is a road to mediocrity and financial slavery. Instead, he advocates for the “Fastlane”. This is a path to wealth that involves entrepreneurship, innovation, and risk-taking. Taking the “Slowlane” means a focus on saving, investing, and budgeting. It also involves the pursuit of a traditional career to climb the corporate ladder. This path is often filled with long hours, sacrifices, and delayed gratification. It can take decades to achieve significant financial success. In contrast, the “Fastlane" is a path to wealth that involves creating value. It solves problems and builds scalable businesses that can generate passive income. This path is much more efficient and allows you to achieve wealth in a shorter period of time. About MJ DeMarco MJ DeMarco is an entrepreneur and self-made millionaire. He advocates for a different approach to achieving wealth than saving and investing. DeMarco teaches how to achieve financial freedom. You can do this by starting or investing in a business and creating multiple passive income streams. He styles himself as “a get-rich-slow anti-guru”. DeMarco's dream was to live free from bosses, free from 9–5 jobs, and free from mediocrity. Through rigorous years of self-study, countless errors and failures, he claims he uncovered the real essence of wealth. He was able to retire in his thirties without sacrificing his lifestyle. DeMarco has also written a follow-up book, "Unscripted: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Entrepreneurship." This further elaborates on his ideas on entrepreneurship and achieving wealth. DeMarco is also the founder of The Fastlane Forum, an online community of entrepreneurs. He provides business advice and mentorship to its members. Very few people have control over their income, but those that do are incredibly successful. Most people acquire their income through a job, which over offers little to no income control. However, in today's episode, I cover the benefits of owning your own business and why income control is so important for developing wealth. Taking the time to set up a system that offers you control will greatly increase your income and your financial security, allowing you to rely on yourself, and not others, for living a life of freedom and security.

In today's episode, I briefly go over the farcical inflation reduction act for those of you who wonder if it will, in fact, reduce inflation. The same politicians who authored it have ironically almost admitted it won't and openly made it about "climate change" without changing the name. Then I move on to a very important topic. A term coined by MJ DeMarco... The "me-bias." A toxic mindset that we can all fall into. What does it mean? Do you operate with one? Can you recognize it? Can you tamp it back and instead operate with a contribution mindset? Ironically, you operate with a contribution mindset to a larger personal benefit anyway. BIO: MJ DeMarco is the international best-selling author of The Millionaire Fastlane, Unscripted, and the Great Rat Race Escape. He's also the founder of Viperion Publishing and the Fastlane Business Forum. STORY: MJ sold his business in 2000 for $1.2 million. Of this, $700,000 was held in an earnout. Because of the recession, the buyer paid MJ $500,000. He put the money in tech stocks, but they imploded in just a few months. MJ lost everything he had invested. LEARNING: Never accept an earnout. “Don't let the stock market control your wealth.”MJ DeMarco Guest profilehttps://www.linkedin.com/in/mjdemarco/ (MJ DeMarco) is the international best-selling author of https://amzn.to/3Km2d2X (The Millionaire Fastlane), https://amzn.to/3LrWutF (Unscripted), and https://amzn.to/3vpWSUg (the Great Rat Race Escape). His books have been translated in over 25 languages worldwide and he's the founder of https://www.viperionpublishing.com/wp/ (Viperion Publishing), and the https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/community/ (Fastlane Business Forum), a global business and entrepreneurial community with over 70,000 users and nearly 1,000,000 contributions. Worst investment everIn 2000 MJ decided to sell his business for $1.2 million. $700,000 of this amount was held in an https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earnout (earnout). This was at a period when the tech stocks were booming. A few months later, there was a recession, and MJ got $500,000 of the $700,000 owed. MJ put the entire $500,000 in tech stocks, and a few months later, the stocks imploded. He lost most of the money, and because he had not paid tax on this money, he owed almost as much as was left. MJ had to liquidate, and he had virtually nothing left of the $500,000. Lessons learnedDon't tie all your wealth to the stock markets. Don't accept an earnout when selling your business. Andrew's takeawaysAlternatives to an earnout you should consider: Build a business with robust systems. Take a lower price Be an advisor and get paid for it. When building your business, always ask yourself if you're overexposed to the market. No.1 goal for the next 12 monthsMJ's goal for the next 12 months is to write another book related to goal setting and productivity. “Whenever you say ‘I can't find ideas,' what you're really saying is, ‘the world is perfect and it needs nothing.'”-MJ DeMarco, HEx Podcast #57—There's a lot of terrible advice out there. Maybe you've noticed this the last time you were outside. People will say things like, “Just follow your passion!” or, “Money doesn't matter!” or, perhaps even worse, “Only 40 more years until retirement, and then you'll be a millionaire!”Some of the people that proffer this advice actually do want the best for you, and they're honestly trying to help. The problem is that they've never learned how money actually works, how wealth is actually created, and how entrepreneurs can solve the problems that are pervasive in society and reap a financial windfall by doing so. Our guest on the podcast today, author MJ DeMarco, has taken aim at all the bad advice out there and has consistently proven the truth of his principles in the process of building out his own businesses and helping tens of thousands of entrepreneurs achieve their financial goals - including me. He reveals the fallacy behind the idea that following your passion will pay your bills; he shows how, in some contexts, money can buy happiness, and how it can also remove some of the sources of unhappiness; and this whole thing about retirement? What people don't tell you is that in 40 years, you'll be 40 years older, and unable to enjoy your money to the degree that you would have been able to while you're young. As he says, wheelchairs, don't fit inside the trunks of Lamborghinis. But his wisdom goes deeper than that. Much deeper. Business can be an incredible source of personal fulfillment, and if you're willing to put your heart and soul (and brain and hands) into something for 10 years, you can win the financial game. You can have it when you're relatively young, and you'll never have to wonder, “What would have happened if I really went for it?”—What We Cover:How the level of access to knowledge is unprecedented right now, and how tapping into it can change the trajectory of your lifeMJ's “C-E-N-T-S” framework for coming up with high-velocity business ideas (featuring the Commandments of Control, Entry, Need, Time, and Scale)How to increase the magnitude of your contribution and accelerate your profitsThe timelessness of great books and podcastsNassim Taleb's concept of “antifragility” and how it can help prepare you for any external event that could threaten your safety and securityThe Great Rat Race Escape, MJ's newest book, a business book/novel hybrid that follows one couple's personal journey from financial slavery to financial freedom”Value skews” and how you can develop them in order to walk over your competition”Superior Unexpected Customer Service” (SUCS) and why it's so much easier today for your business to stand out”Expected Value” and why you should always aim for “Excellent” instead of just “Good”The latest redefinition of “financial freedom” and why it's just financial slavery in a different formWhy investing in your health will improve your life in every other areaWhen you should begin your child's financial education and how to avoid the mediocrity narrativePlease leave a review if you enjoy The HighExistence podcast.
In this episode, I got to sit down with an entrepreneur that is making his mark. From landing a mentorship opportunity with MJ Demarco utilizing great email copy to starting the Not Most People Podcast. Bradley dives into the basics of entrepreneurship with us and provides some insight into the armor we need for the journey.
Maybe you haven't heard of MJ, but trust me, his story is worth paying attention to. We'll take a look at how he started (and later sold) a website where people could book limo services all over the country. Of course it wasn't a straight path to success …it was a bumpy road along the way. One of the things we can learn from MJ are the core thought patterns that allowed him to become financially free. His financial freedom didn't happen by accident, he was focused on making his dream lifestyle a reality. And today he has this lifestyle where his income is completely independent from his time, so he's in a position where he can spend his time doing exactly what he wants instead of worrying about how he's going to get his next paycheck. There are some great golden nuggets of wisdom in this episode, so I definitely recommend you check it out. In this episode John talks about his experience owning a company and losing it, the things he learned from losing his job and money, and how he was able to navigate to bounce back in life. He also discussed true financial freedom, monotony in the corporate world and how it suppresses creativity, pursuing meaning and purpose, and his thoughts about retirement. John Marty is on a mission to help people achieve financial freedom and pursue more fulfilling lives. At 31, he was penny-less, had a baby on the way, and zero job prospects, despite applying to 150 companies. John's desperate situation led him to take a job at Best Buy for $12 an hour while reinventing himself through the completion of an MBA at the University of Colorado, and a 6-month software development boot camp. After graduation, John landed at American Express as a Senior Product Manager and then left for Amazon in 2017.
