Brandon shares how he started Young Entrepreneur Convention and the benefits of putting on your own Events.
Brandon T. Adams is a serial entrepreneur who owns a stake in a number of businesses, including the Accelerant Media Group, Live to Grind, Young Entrepreneur Convention, and Arctic Stick. He is also the co-host and executive producer of the reality TV series Ambitious Adventures, and the host of the business podcast Live to Grind. His most recent project is a TV series called Success in Your City. Brandon is an entrepreneur who lives life on his own terms, and there's a reason for that. In a story that is both fascinating and relatable, he talks about his own journey of working hard, though as he admits, “not smart” – and he paid the consequences. Brandon shares an incident where he had a mental and physical breakdown while driving, a sure sign his body was telling him to work for his own reward, not others. Working in real estate at the time, the moment was crucial for Brandon, for he knew it was the signal that he had to change his ways. Think and Grow Rich Brandon knew he wanted to be an entrepreneur at the age of 21, after he read Napoleon Hill's acclaimed 1937 book “Think and Grow Rich.” The lesson he learned was that the famous entrepreneurs of the day — Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Andrew Carnegie — weren't necessarily the brightest in the land. However, they all shared one goal: the “drive to achieve something,” said Brandon. This drive is shown in the determination to succeed that has characterised Brandon's life, most noticeably in his drive to release his Emmy award TV series “Success in your City.” Handling pressure As many entrepreneurs know, life is never easy and Brandon's had his own share of trials and tribulations. He speaks candidly of the adverse reaction to his film proposal and tells me how he dealt with the pressure and incessant trolling on social media. Brandon says no matter how unpleasant the experience, “...you grow, you learn, and you open up doors.” Brandon's message for budding entrepreneurs is simple: Live life the way you want and always be prepared to grow and learn. I’ve found out over the years that the number one thing people fail to do is take action towards their goals or dreams. They talk about it but don’t take any steps forward. They don't take that initial leap of progress towards the things that they want. Sometimes the first step is the hardest step to take in your journey. Once you DISCOVER what it is you want in life you need to ACT on it and ENGAGE consistently to ensure it becomes a reality. Megan Watt, a former speaker of Young Entrepreneur Convention recently launched her book Discover. Act. Engage. In this book she talks about how to reach your someday goals and also how to act on your connections to help reach them. Connections are very powerful and can help us go farther than we think. On average 80% of our current connections that we have can help us get to where we want to go in life and reach our goals.
Haris Reis is one of the most persistent guys that I know. His persistence is what led to him getting on my podcast show. We first met in April at the Young Entrepreneur Convention. He came up to me after I spoke and offered to come on my podcast show. I didn't think much of it at first, but then he kept following up with emails. This went on for 2 months, which finally led to us meeting in New York, then him coming on my show. Just 8 months ago I sat around a table with a bunch of entrepreneurs and we made the commitment that we were going to co-create a movement. It wasn't about building a company or even trying to make a bunch of money, we just wanted to create an entrepreneurial movement for the world to see. We set out to do that and now 8 months later we are about to kick off Iowa’s largest Entrepreneurial event that will have 750-1,000 attendees. How did we do it? We worked as a team!
Today, I interviewed Kevin Harrington who has been an entrepreneur for the last 40 years. He was the original shark from the TV show Shark Tank, has launched over 500 products, and was the inventor of the infomercial. Kevin speaks to us about his journey in becoming a very successful entrepreneur and how he became a shark on Shark Tank. He dives deep into what he looks for when a product or service is pitched to him and how to deal with a curiosity overload. Kevin Harrington also is launching his crowdfunding campaign for his new book Put a Shark in Your Tank, during the Young Entrepreneur Convention. He speaks to us about what he has to offer and how he would like to individually work and meet with young entrepreneurs during the event.
The past 9 days I have been traveling all over the country. I went to San Diego to launch a crowdfunding campaign for Yoga 4 Homeless, I then went to Saint Pete Florida where I filmed a crowdfunding video with Kevin Harrington, then flew to Portland Oregon to launch a kickstarter campaign for the Convertible HDL. I’ve done a lot in a short period of time and I really haven’t slept much in the past 9 days. It’s been a complete Grind and its not going to slow down for the rest of the month. In 15 days I have my event Young Entrepreneur Convention, and to top it off I launch Kevin Harrington’s Indiegogo Campaign “Put a Shark in Your Tank” live from the event on April 23rd. As you can see I have a lot going on. I literally am strategizing every single hour leading up to the event. It’s going to be a crazy month but I know I will get through it. It is times like these that the real leaders push through and come out on top, while others may give up and make an excuse and say there isn’t enough time. There is always a way to make things happen.
