June 4, 1941. Reinhard Heydrich transmits a message to all regional governors in the Third Reich: prepare for “action against occult teachings.” Heydrich is carrying out the orders of Adolf Hitler, who is furious at his Deputy Führer, Rudolf Hess. Inspired by a horoscope reading, Hess decided to fly a secret mission to Great Britain and sue for peace. But Hess crash-lands in Scotland—the plan doesn't pan out—and his failure becomes an international embarrassment. So in retaliation, Hitler cracks down on mysticism throughout Germany. Magicians, spiritualists, and faith healers are arrested, their homes get searched, and their books are confiscated.  And yet, the “Hess Action” only lasts a few weeks. Because Hitler and many of the top Nazi leaders are also obsessed with the occult, the supernatural, and the fringes of science. How does Nazi Germany embrace the metaphyiscal, mysticism, and mythology? And how do they use these ideas to strengthen their fascist regime? This episode features a conversation with Eric Kurlander, William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of History at Stetson University and author of Hitler's Monsters: A Supernatural History of the Third Reich.

Heydrich toho využil k vyhlášení „velkorysého daru“ a třem tisícům dělníků a dělnic ze zbrojních podniků poskytl v zotavovnách Čech a Moravy zdarma dovolenou. Zvláště proslulé byly lázně Luhačovice, kde byly i dispozici zdarma biografy či sportovní utkání. I silné odbory plynule přešly do nových časů.

This lecture discusses key ideas from the 20th Century American science-fiction short story writer and novelist, Philip K. Dick's novel The Man In The High Castle It focuses specifically on the power struggles going on within the Third Reich of the alternate history in the 1960s, as the current chancellor and Führer Martin Bormann dies. The main Nazi leaders who are in the running for becoming the next chancellor and head of the Nazi party are Hermann Göring, Joseph Goebbels, Reinhard Heydrich, Baldur von Schirach, and Arthur Seyss-Inquart. We look at the assessments of each of these potential leaders, and also at the tendencies of the Nazi regime to promote "internecine conflict". This leadership crisis has massive global implications for all of the characters in the novel To support my ongoing work, go to my Patreon site - www.patreon.com/sadler If you'd like to make a direct contribution, you can do so here - www.paypal.me/ReasonIO - or at BuyMeACoffee - www.buymeacoffee.com/A4quYdWoM You can find over 3000 philosophy videos in my main YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/user/gbisadler You can get a copy of Man In The High Castle here - https://amzn.to/45yJ2ie

Reinhard Heydrich sucks. Like real bad. Like he's in blue ribbon contention at the Nazi 4H show. You know... where kids raise Nazis themselves and show them off at the Exhibition before sending them off to slaughter as a character-building exercise? We're getting off track here. Big picture: He sucked so bad that people killed him. He needed killin', sure, but it also cost the world the village of Lidice. Is this the ultimate portrayal of this man's fall? Or little more than a well-intentioned propaganda film? Jason and Brendan, as usual, are happy to tell you.    Next week: Back to the list! Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Following the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the Nazis falsely accused Lidice's residents of aiding the assassins. On 10 June 1942, in a horrific act of reprisal, the entire village was obliterated, with its male population systematically executed, while women and children were sent to concentration camps. The Wannsee Conference was a meeting that took place on January 20, 1942, in a suburb of Berlin called Wannsee. The conference was organized by high-ranking officials of Nazi Germany, and its main purpose was to coordinate the implementation of the "Final Solution to the Jewish Question." The "Final Solution" was the Nazi plan to systematically exterminate the Jewish people in Europe during the Holocaust.During the conference, top Nazi officials, led by SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, discussed and formalized plans for the mass genocide of Jews. The decision to implement the "Final Solution" had already been made earlier, but the conference aimed to coordinate various administrative and logistical aspects of the genocide, such as the organization of transportation, the role of different government agencies, and the cooperation of various occupied territories in carrying out the extermination. The Wannsee Conference marked a pivotal moment in the Holocaust, as it demonstrated the systematic and bureaucratic nature of the genocide. The decisions made during the conference laid the groundwork for the horrific events that unfolded during World War II, resulting in the death of millions of innocent people. In this episode, we take a look at the participants, what they talked about and how it would go on to shape the plan that would inevitably become one of the worst holocausts in human history. If we forget our history, we are bound to repeat it and with the vitriol being launched from many these days, it's a good time to remember just exactly what happened and how systemic and vile it truly was. Reinhard Heydrich, a Birodalmi Biztonsági Főhivatal vezetője november 29-én fogott a németek uralma/hegemóniája alá hajtott európai területeken élő mintegy nyolcmillió zsidó legyilkolását kidolgozó konferencia megszervezésébe. (Jan Kershaw: Hitler. 1936-1945. Nemezis. Szukits, Szeged, 2004, 424.) Ebben a keretben helyezendő el a Kállay-kormány zsidópolitikája.

Derek Arden In this week's Monday Night Live Podcast, Derek Arden talks to the incredible author about his new book. The interviewer Derek praised Damien's storytelling style of moving from one chapter to another, sometimes going back and forth, which keeps readers interested. Damien explained that his writing style is a result of extensive research and planning. He creates a detailed plan with a chronology of events and sources for each event. This plan helps him maintain the flow of the narrative and quickly access the necessary sources while writing. He mentioned that the research process, including gathering sources and creating the research document, takes far longer than actually writing the book. It can take months and months of work to put the research together. When asked about the time it took to write "SAS - Forged in Hell," Damien mentioned that it took about three months to write, but the research for the book took several years. Damien shared personal experiences from his book events where he met family members of veterans and how they found his book emotionally powerful and transformative. He emphasized the importance of personal testimonies in his research. He mentioned the grandson of one of the SAS veterans thanking him for writing the book and for unlocking memories and stories that his father had never shared before. Damien also talked about his friendship with Alec Bora, one of the last surviving SAS veterans from World War Two, and how he interviewed Alec before his passing. He highlighted the deep bond and respect that SAS soldiers had for their commanding officers. The interview touched on the concept of "transformational command" in the SAS, where leaders inspire their men through their example and forge strong bonds. This style of leadership is about earning respect rather than simply relying on rank. Damien explained that transformational command is recognized in the military and also in business and industry, and the SAS often lectures on it to businesses. The conversation mentioned neurodiversity and how the SAS valued individuals who could think outside the box and act unexpectedly, especially during World War Two. Damien briefly discussed the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which was the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during World War Two, and their unconventional methods of warfare. There was a mention of Hitler's directive to kill captured Allied agents and Special Forces operators during the war, even if they were in uniform, which was a war crime. Damien also talked about the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in Prague by SOE agents and the severe reprisals that followed, including the destruction of the village they came from. The interview concluded with a question about how Damien chooses his book titles. He explained that titles often emerge from the writing process and may be related to key quotes or themes within the book. A question about how he decides where to start and finish a book in his extensive research was also asked, and Damien mentioned that it's an instinctive process that comes out of writing and selecting the most relevant characters and operations to include in the narrative. As early as 1933, Hitler and the Nazis - the National Socialist German Worker's Party - began passing a series of discriminatory laws against Jews— inch by inch, chipping away at their freedoms. They took away their property. Their ability to practice certain jobs or exist in public places. They took away their ability to own pets or walk around without a badge identifying them as Jews. And they did all this while the world watched. While everyone hoped that maybe they'd finally just stop with all their mindless hate. But instead, they just kept pushing it further, and further, and further. Soon, the Nazi's began deporting Jews. Sending them out of Germany and to various labor camps. Then, the plan changed from one of deportation to genocide, and concentration camps were constructed to efficiently kill massive amounts of people. The majority of people deported to these new death camps were transported in cattle wagons. These wagons - traveling along train tracks - didn't have water, food, a toilet, or ventilation. Sometimes there weren't enough cars for a major transport, so victims waited at a switching yard, often with standing room only, for several days.  Stewing in their own filth, fear, confusion and hunger. Sometimes, when the train made it to the concentration camp, and the transport doors were opened, everyone inside was already dead. Today we explore and explain the holocaust. How it happened and why, in a very dark, genocidal edition of Timesuck. Bad Magic Productions Monthly Patreon Donation:  The Bad Magic Charity for May is the HALO Dental Network.
