POPULARITY
The Venus Project was started in the 1980s by Jacques Fresco and Roxanne Meadows with the aim of showing that it was possible to lead a more human centered existence… as long as you built outside of the capitalist market system. Over the decades, the fortunes of the project have fluctuated - from an initial burst of enthusiasm and action (Meadows and Fresco built almost all the structures on the property by hand themselves) to the grinding reality of what it means to grow a stable and vibrant community, to the immense surge of popularity just as Fresco's life came to an end. Project members Roxanne Meadows and Nate Dwindiddie come by the show with previous guest Simon Michaux to talk about the failures and successes of the project, and what it might look like when its reborn as the framework for Michaux's Prometheus Project. A RESOURCE BASED ECONOMY is an idea so grand we've been developing it across dozens of shows and videos-- it is the foundation and the clearest vision of where we go from here. In this episode we talk with Aboubakre Haraket founder of RBE United, an organization devoted to building steps to the future in the Phillipines and beyond. This episode is a great primer on this profound, world-saving IDEA and a powerful step toward bringing about the transition, getting from HERE to THERE.

Roberto and Laura are co-founders of Liminal Village - a living and co-creating space in the center of Italy. In part inspired by Jacques Fresco's idea of a Resource Based Economy, Liminal, meaning “a place of transition” or “a place that occupies both sides”, aims to bring value-aligned people together to build networks and co-create the future. They aim to support people to create value for the world, heal themselves and heal the collective, emphasizing the balance of personal, local and global needs. In September, Roberto & Laura have hosted the first MetaGame worktreat & Liminal Village has recently been onboarded as the first physical guild in MetaGame. In this episode, we get into the details of Roberto & Laura's origin stories, the beginnings of Liminal Village and details and philosophies of the village hubs. Some of the Topics: Providing free access to networks Personal, local and global needs Emotions manifesting as physical disease Syncing work with lunar and solar cycles Cons of Hackathons Upgrading society's OS Resource mapping & sharing Peth, Roberto & Laura discuss using natural cycles to guide progress, and focus on the need to “upgrade the operating system of society”; transitioning from money-driven industry to community-driven resource sharing. They dive deep into the importance of cultivating personal growth and community support, and the profound impacts these philosophies can have on the build in web3. Deep-Dive into Modern Monetary Theory (00:00) Intro (04:19) What is Money? How is it created? Why do we never seem to have enough of it? We all have a story we tell ourselves, and it's mostly negative. Money is not the root of all evil, nor is the love of it going to destroy your soul, nor is being in debt sinful, despite what the Bible may have said about that. Star-Trek forecasts that money will be eliminated in the 24th century. But this is a pipe dream, even for the Federation. Fantasy think-tank The Venus Project cannot and will not ever eliminate money. "Resource Based Economy" is a re-branding of the failed idea of anarcho-communism. (22:34) The fake story of money. You probably think money originated to help replace barter-economics, and is a valuable commodity such as gold or silver. That's false. (29:36) The real story of money. Money is record keeping, not a commodity. It's a matter of law, not fixed value. It relies on a government promise to take back the currency it issues. Currency-creation is the most important function of a sovereign government. (01:01:43) Debt is not sin. Repayment of debt is not redemption. The biblical concepts of sin and redemption most likely originated from the involvement of ancient temples in issuing currency. Government is not like a household. Issuers of currency can't go broke. Government debt serves a valuable function. (01:12:45) How does the government spend? The grievous opportunity cost of spare economic capacity. Failure of any currency-issuing government to spend enough public funds to unlock all economic resources and labor is moral failure. (01:27:48) There is no debt-free money, and therefore Bitcoin is not money, and can never be money. Risks and opportunities of Modern Monetary Theory. The true limit on government spending: available economic resources. (01:42:07) The red-herring of hyperinflation. Cannot exist so long as currency issuers keep the money supply less than or equal to the available economic resources. (01:47:09) The relationship between budget deficits and trade deficits. Nations with large trade surpluses can afford to have a balanced budget or budget surplus. While nations with trade deficits must also run budget deficits to remain at or near full employment. Capitalist economies simply need large government participation to operate at peak efficiency. Social security will always remain solvent. The biggest risk to future retirees is failing to keep the economy running at maximum productivity by failing to spend sufficiently. (01:55:13) Deficits save the world. The incredible value and power of US Treasury bonds. The government's red ink is the economy's black ink, and vice versa. Running government budget surpluses leads to economic disaster. (02:03:11) Can we afford to keep paying interest on the national debt? What if China stops lending us money? Can (or should) the US national debt ever be paid off? A thought experiment. (02:13:36) Pony politics. Ending the "pay for" conversation, and shifting the discussion to how to allocate maximum economic resources for best outcomes. Think. Educate. Act. Join us in a tea-infused conversation about the latest sustainability news where will also educate ourselves on a new topic, today we discuss the concept of a Resource Based Economy including the Venus Project. The term and meaning of a Resource-Based Economy was originated by Jacque Fresco. It is a holistic social and economic system in which all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter or any other system of debt or servitude. All resources become the common heritage of all of the inhabitants, not just a select few. The premise upon which this system is based is that the Earth is abundant with plentiful resources; our practice of rationing resources through monetary methods is irrelevant and counterproductive to our survival. Modern society has access to highly advanced technology and can make available food, clothing, housing, and medical care; update our educational system; and develop a limitless supply of renewable, non-contaminating energy. By supplying an efficiently designed economy, everyone can enjoy a very high standard of living with all of the amenities of a high technological society. A resource-based economy would utilize existing resources from the land and sea, physical equipment, industrial plants, etc. to enhance the lives of the total population. In an economy based on resources rather than money, we could easily produce all of the necessities of life and provide a high standard of living for all.
Joel Holt, with the help of Roxanne Meadows and Nate Dinwiddie's archiving, created a video “Reflections on the Life & Work of Jacque Fresco”. The video presents snippets from Jacque's life, events, and appearances throughout his prolific and active life. A Resource Based Economy as proposed by Jacque inspires us towards a more equitable future. The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in today's world.
I still remember the day in August 2012 when Futurist Jacque Fresco and his partner Roxanne Meadows of the Venus Project came to our studios for London Real episode #47. After accepting my offer to pick them up I headed off to Waterloo station with camera crew in tow to record the arrival of one of our century's great thinkers. After nearly getting arrested by the transit authority for recording video in a public station, I was soon struck by the resilience of Jacque Fresco: this man of 96 years demonstrated a quick wit and a mind sharp as a tack. For the next hour we were left alone with Jacque (thank you for trusting us Roxanne) and explored everything from his relationship with Peter Joseph of the Zeitgeist Movement to his thoughts on the Resource Based Economy to the basic tenets of the Venus Project. Little did we know that this episode would soon become one of our most popular and defining episodes of London Real with over 200,000 views. Recently celebrating his 98th birthday Jacque Fresco shows no signs of slowing down and you can still visit him and Roxanne Meadows at the Venus Project in Florida where they give 4 hour lectures every week on Saturdays. They are also working on a documentary film which you can learn more about it and donate by visiting The Venus Project Homepage. Jacque Fresco has a uncanny way of transcending age, race, culture, and nationality that I still can't quite explain. Perhaps it is the fact that he has spent a lifetime dedicated to a message and truth that has never been fashionable or popular without ever giving up.
Paradise or Oblivion http://www.thevenusproject.com https://www.facebook.com/TheVenusProj... This video presentation advocates a new socio-economic system, which is updated to present-day knowledge, featuring the life-long work of Social Engineer, Futurist, Inventor, and Industrial Designer Jacque Fresco, which he calls a Resource-Based Economy. This documentary details the root causes of the systemic value disorders and detrimental symptoms caused by our current established system. The film details the need to outgrow the dated and inefficient methods of politics, law, business, or any other "establishment" notions of human affairs, and use the methods of science, combined with high technology, to provide for the needs of all the world's people. It is not based on the opinions of the political and financial elite or on illusionary so-called democracies, but on maintaining a dynamic equilibrium with the planet that could ultimately provide abundance for all people. Paradise or Oblivion, by The Venus Project, introduces the viewer to a more appropriate value system that would be required to enable this caring and holistic approach to benefit human civilization. This alternative surpasses the need for a monetary-based, controlled, and scarcity-oriented environment, which we find ourselves in today. This is NOT the "major motion picture" that The Venus Project is working towards but rather is a short documentary to introduce the aims and proposals to new people. This is a free online documentary created by The Venus Project. Original music by Carly Paradis (http://www.carlyparadis.com/) from her album "They Have Been Watching." Roxanne: Eliminate boundaries and then if people decide to do that, then go into outer space but we have so much to do here first that it's a waste of time and a waste of money at this point in our stage of evolution. I don't know if you've ever heard the saying “We're kind of like cannibals in Cadillacs”. We don't know how to use our technology wisely and it's dangerous ‘cos sure as hell we probably, if we don't already, we'll have nuclear weapons going around in outer space ‘cos we're so infantile.Matt: What is it about science fiction that so captivates us and makes us consider the future? Is it the fact that so few of us live in the future and are focused on the here and now? It's hard to even imagine how things can change. I don't know but I think today's interview really dives into some of these topics. Today we've got Roxanne Meadows on the program. Roxanne’s a co-founder of ‘The Venus Project’.

The officer drove her home, bought the family-of-seven dinner, and started a clothing and food drive for the family. • The San Francisco non-profit Tipping Point just announced that they have started a 100 million dollar initiative to help with the homeless and poverty levels in the Bay area. • A non-profit of Toronto called the Institute for a Resource Based Economy works toward launching projects that challenge the current economic model with resource sharing initiatives. Their first project is a Tool Library, which is similar to the one I talked about a few episodes, back but they have also expanded and opened the Sharing Depot which provides any items people may need for events or parties or projects but don’t necessarily have the space or funds to buy. • An 18 year old boy invented a bra called “Eva” that could potentially detect breast cancer in it’s earliest stages! • James is from Pittsburgh, PA and the city is working towards creating affordable renovations and housing as the population within city hub expands and grows. This initiative will be working to keep lower incomes from being pushed out of their own city. Also Jack Brambaugh is the city’s MVP volunteer! • In Animal Corner we learn about a small town that is painting rocks and hiding them around town to raise awareness for their animal center. And the dog friendly campus of American University, D.C. is bringing in audiences of dogs to help those who have fear of public speaking! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
As we realize the truth, that our current economic system is unsustainable, a new vanguard of thinkers has begun to emerge promoting a healthier, more resource-based economy. One of these thinkers is Michael E.V. Knight. Michael was a real estate investor/consultant until seven years ago when two friends asked him to watch the video Zeitgeist Addendum. He watched the video and his life did a 180 degree turn that day. He now spends 50 - 80 hours a week explaining how simple it is for us to change to a world that no longer requires the use of money by anyone. A world where EVERYONE is housed, fed and educated, and poverty no longer exists. Envisioning That Better World This is a topic that I get very excited about because when I listen to stories like the ones Michael shares in this interview, I can begin to envision what lies around the corner for humanity. It's a world that has never existed, at least in our current historical memory. That's why, for many of us, it's been difficult to envision. But (and I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record on this) we truly need to start envisioning this better world if we want it to actually come to be. It's apparent that Michael is a no-nonsense guy with solid street-smarts. His background in real estate investing shows he has learned how to succeed financially within our current monetary system. To me, this shows he's no sore-loser. From Feudalism to THIS? Michael just happened to wake up to the fact that within the current system we are all slaves, no matter how much money we happen to acquire. Our 40 plus hour per week jobs ensure that we rarely get what we truly want. Over and over again we see that career success does not equal happiness. But perhaps more significantly, we rarely get the time to reflect that might help all of us to wake up to the reality of our situation. When we return from a full day of what is very often soul-sucking work, we are so tired that all we can do is plop down in front of the television. And T.V. merely serves to reinforce the false notion that our slavery is necessary for happiness. Resource-based economy? Most of us don't even have time to wonder what it means. Round and round the hamster wheel goes. But as Bob Dylan once said, "The Times, They Are A-Changin." New Systems Emerging Through his Facebook group "Build a Hybrid RBE Community Now," Michael has attracted many like minds who are working to liberate humanity with new systems. I was thrilled when he put me in touch with several other such thinkers and have since begun a new series of soon-to-be published interviews that I'm calling, "New Systems." This all brings to mind the words of a wise teacher who has predicted that our current economic and geo-political systems are about to come to an end. However he also said that "new systems" that are more beneficial to humans and Planet Earth would be emerging to replace them. I hope you enjoy this interview with Michael, as well as our upcoming series of "New Systems" interviews. You may wish to check out the following podcast episodes: What is a Gift Economy? Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, by director Peter Joseph, is a feature length documentary work which presents a case for a transition out of the current socioeconomic paradigm, the "monetary system," to a new, sustainable social paradigm called a "Resource-Based Economy". Through a series of interviews, presentations of statistics, and historical analysis, Joseph builds an argument that economists should focus on the "life ground" attributes of human and social survival, extrapolating from those immutable natural laws a new socioeconomic system, rather than the "money sequence of value," which assigns value to monetary instruments independent of their relationship to natural laws. The documentary covers diverse issues ranging from human nature, nature vs nurture, genetics and epi-genetics, to social engineering, monetary policy, and macroeconomic policy on a global scale. Simultaneous with the documentary aspects of the film is a fictional narrative which attempts to dramatize the subjects being discussed, and which presents creative commentary on the current state of world affairs, and well as possible future scenarios. The film concludes with an illustration of a possible society based on the Resource- Based Economy, and a fictional narrative envisioning how such a system might emerge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z9WVZddH9w www.TheKingdomofGodorNothing.com www.Latterdaykingdom.webs.com
