Netflix is raising their rates... AGAIN, and people are somehow blaming Meghan and Harry despite Netflix signing SEVERAL multi-million dollar contracts for many years prior to signing their contract with the Sussexes. Let's dissect the ridiculousness. The Ethiopian government will reportedly be demanding that King Charles return "immoral" artifacts that have been kept in Britain since the 1868 Battle of Magdala. Per a report published by The Telegraph on Friday, Jan. 24, officials in Ethiopia's capital of Addis Ababa will be pushing for the return of items from the Royal Collection as well as treasures kept elsewhere in the United Kingdom, such as the British Museum. The items kept by the King are sacred to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, per the outlet, which also notes that the government in the United Kingdom will be asked to support Ethiopia's push for the items' return next year. The Ethiopian Heritage Authority will lead the move for the return of the items alongside the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, according to The Telegraph. EXCLUSIVE: The memoir of a choreography teacher who secretly taught Princess Diana to dance is to be turned into a 90-minute feature documentary. Canadian producer-distributor Sphere Media has secured rights to Anne Allan's ‘Dancing with Diana: A Memoir‘ and will co-produce it with Alan Clements' Glasgow-based Two Rivers Media. Sphere Abacus, the sales arm of Sphere, will shop the doc internationally. It's early days for the project so no network or streamer is attached yet. Scottish-Canadian dancer and London City Ballet mistress Allan was the late Princess Diana's dance teacher, and co-choreographed her ‘Uptown Girl' routine at London's Royal Opera House, which she surprised Prince Charles with in 1985. Allan's memoir, which recounts the performance, was released last year. Sonia was born in 1996 in Florence, Italy. She is half Scottish-Canadian and half Ukrainian. As a young child she was able to experience the beautiful renaissance city of Florence and the incredible artistic ability of its historic master artists. Through her mother's artisan studio she learned many ancient techniques such as gilding and fresco from a young age, then proceeded to earn her bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence in 2019. After graduating summa cum laudae with a thesis project on spiritual ascension in the industrialized world, she completed a specialization course on techniques and design for artisans. Her studies and her experiences of both traditional and contemporary art led her to develop her own form of artistic expression through painting on gilded surfaces, continuing to explore the concepts tied to spirituality and emotion. She has since participated in group exhibitions and art fairs both in Italy and internationally, and her work is featured in multiple online galleries. View Sonia's work here

In 1891, a mysterious figure appeared on the streets of London, dispensing pills to poor young women who then died in agony. Suspicion came to center on a Scottish-Canadian doctor with a dark past in North America. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll describe the career of the Lambeth Poisoner, whose victims remain uncounted. We'll also consider a Hungarian Jules Verne and puzzle over an ambiguous sentence. Intro: How can an investor responsibly divest herself of stock in a company that she feels has acted immorally? Based on real events, the film tells the story of the removal of the Stone of Scone from Westminster Abbey. The stone, supposedly the Stone of Jacob over which Scottish monarchs were traditionally crowned at Scone in Perthshire, was taken by King Edward I of England in 1296 and placed under the throne at Westminster Abbey in London. In 1950, a group of Scottish nationalist students succeeded in liberating it from Westminster Abbey and returning it to Scotland where it was placed symbolically at Arbroath Abbey, the site of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath and an important site in the Scottish nationalist cause.Filming began in June 2007 in various locations throughout Scotland, Wales and England.[1] The filmmakers were given rare access to shoot scenes inside Westminster Abbey.[2] The film was premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland on 21 June 2008.[3] The film closed the 33rd Annual Toronto International Film Festival on 13 September 2008;[4][5] and was presented at The Hampton's International Film Festival in the United States.[6] The film was released in the United Kingdom on 10 October 2008 and in Canada on 20 February 2009.[7]Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/100things)

Nashville-based Montreal-born Scottish-Grenadian-Canadian multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, poet, mother, and runner Allison Russell (Birds of Chicago, Our Native Daughters, Po’ Girl) presents her autobiographical record, Outside Child, which sees her breaking the cycles of abuse and violence and celebrating having found her chosen community and chosen family. These cycles of abuse stretch far back to an enslaved ancestor, about whom she wrote in the song "Quasheba, Quasheba" (written with Our Native Daughters) and those she endured at the hands of an abusive stepfather from a sundown town, as in her songs "Part-Time Poppa" and on "Persephone." Yet, Persephone, the character of myth, embodies spring, renewal and stepping into the light. Which might be a lovely metaphor for Allison Russell's re-emergence on Outside Child. She speaks to the significance of the album's title as well, from the perspective of the teenage runaway, literally living outside, and the othering that she'd experienced growing up with white supremacist relatives on the Scottish-Canadian side. Then there was also what Russell called the gift of being “Outside Child” which, for her Grenadian family, meant she was conceived outside of marriage, but welcomed nonetheless. Allison Russell and her band - some of the members of her musical community- play some of these songs from Outside Child remotely. Set list: “Persephone” “Montreal” “4th Day Prayer” Here's more from her record, Outside Child: Outside Child by Allison Russell

Since then, Savage has written, produced, and or directed five more feature films, including the 2011 thriller “Legacy”, starring Wolfgang Bodison (“A Few Good Men”, Joe Somebody”) and Conor O’Farrell (HBO’s The Pacific”, “Stir Of Echoes”), and two television length dramas for The Sundance Channel, “The Hunter’s Moon” starring Wes Studi, and “Tide Of Whispers”, a joint Scottish/Canadian project which was shot in the Arctic Circle. Savage wrote and directed the Rock climbing comedy-drama “Vertical”, winner of the Best Foreign Film Award at the 2015 London International Film Festival” and the Audience Choice trophy at the 2015 Paris Film Expo. His commercial work for such prominent clients as Tesla, Hyundai, Acura, Suzuki, and Kia, and his work with Time Warner’s Travel Channel, The History Channel, and Journey TV, all put him on the fast track to a major directing career in film, TV, and Web Based advertising, and his stint as a featured director on A&E Network’s “Son’s Of Hollywood” helped make him a triple threat in the film, TV and commercial ad game. Stephen is also the author of a new adaptation of California’s Official State Play, “Ramona”, based on the 1884 Helen Hunt Jackson novel and the 1923 stage play of the same name, which is performed each spring in the beautiful 6000 seat Ramona Bowl Amphitheater in Southern California. Savage is also the founder and director of the Idyllwild International Festival Of Cinema, occurring every March in Idyllwild, California. – IMDb Mini Biography By: Sophie Jones (https://www.imdb.com/search/name?bio_author=Sophie%20Jones&view=simple&sort=alpha)

Happily, it all worked out, as Victoria Caledonian Distillery and the Twa Dogs Brewery opened in the autumn of 2016, and Graeme's laying down spirit for the future. We'll catch up with Graeme Macaloney and his master distiller, longtime Diageo veteran Mike Nicolson, on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, British Columbia's attorney general now acknowledges that the province's liquor laws may need updating in the wake of last week's raids on four Scotch Malt Whisky Society partner bars. We'll also get an update on plans for the new Holyrood Park Distillery in Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh, while the boom in whisky-related tourism keeps growing around the world.
