Join us for this much-needed follow-up on Seventh-day Adventism. While our initial series focused on the history of Ellen G. White and the late Dr. Walter Martin's interactions with SDA leadership when he wrote Kingdom of the Cults, this will be a theological examination of Seventh-day Adventism and its claims. Is Seventh-day Adventism a non-Christian cult or just a misunderstood denomination? Our guest, Myles, is a former third-generation Adventist who runs the popular channel Answering Adventism and will be examining its theological claims by way of its primary sources to see if it passes the sniff test of orthodoxy. In Part 1, we chat with Myles about what it was like growing up in the SDA church, what caused him to eventually leave, and the complexities of navigating the language barrier when it comes to Adventism.SUPPORT OUR WORK!SHOP OUR MERCH STORE!Check out Myles' YouTube HERE!

Part 1 In 2023, the Seventh-day Adventist Church saw more additions to its membership than any year since its founding in 1863. In 1961 the Seventh-day Adventist Church had a global membership of about a million. Today they have a membership of more than 22.7 million, meeting in more than 100,000 Churches, spanning some 215 countries worldwide. Without question, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is one of the fastest-growing organisations in the world vastly outnumbering the global membership of Jehovah's Witnesses. When one goes to the official website of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to look at their statement of ‘Fundamental Beliefs'; upon first glance, one finds nothing of real concern. They believe in the inspiration of the Scriptures, the doctrine of the Trinity, the deity of Jesus Christ, substitutionary atonement and salvation by faith as a gift of God's grace. However, Seventh-day Adventists are adept at saying one thing out of one side of their mouth while taking it back out of the other. In continuing to explore what else is included in their Fundamental Beliefs, emerging cracks begin to appear, which when further investigated reveal a rupture in the foundations! In this introductory teaching, we shall discover what Seventh-day Adventists believe and why they are classified as a cult. Myles is now a mainstream Christian who runs an outreach ministry to SDAs called Answering Adventism. In this episode, he shares his journey out of SDA, offering many profound insights into their religion, the danger in their beliefs, and why he ultimately left. He also takes questions from live viewers. We talk through:1.) His early SDA faith and experiences. (What he believed, how he was raised, etc.)2.) The events or ideas that led to him questioning SDA (What opened his eyes, what people said or did, etc.)3.) The process of leaving and "recovering from" SDA (What that process was like, how he was treated, what he noticed, etc.)4.) Recorded Oct. 9, 2024Astronomers have now discovered thousands of planets in orbit around other stars. Dr. Weintraub discusses those discoveries, and predicts the progress astronomers are likely to make in their more detailed studies of these planets over the next fifty years. Then he considers the consequences of those potential discoveries for Roman Catholicism, Mainline Protestantism, Christian Creationism, Seventh Day Adventism, Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism -- for all of which the discovery of a planet with life on it may be profound. These thoughts are based on the writings of key religious leaders on this topic -- in the past and in our times.Dr. David A. Weintraub is Professor of Astronomy Emeritus at Vanderbilt University where he founded and directed the Communication of Science and Technology program, and conducted research on the formation of stars and planets. His most recent book is The Sky is for Everyone: Women Astronomers in Their Own Words (2022; with Virginia Trimble). Previous books include Religions and Extraterrestrial Life: How Will We Deal With It? (2014), Life on Mars: What to Know Before We Go (2018), How Old is the Universe? (2010), and Is Pluto a Planet? (2006). He also created the Who Me? series of inspirational scientific autobiographies for fifth-grade level readers (from World Scientific Publishing), which helps young people see themselves as scientists.

A few months back, Dr. Eric Mason joined Jackie and Preston to talk about church dynamics and denominations, and it got some pushback from members of the SDA (Seventh Day Adventism) community. As a follow-up, Dr. Mason is back to have a conversation with Elce “Thunder” Lauriston, who used to be a conference evangelist and defender of the Adventist faith… until he says “in good consciousness and integrity” he had no choice but to leave. Mary Danielsen chats with Kyle Peart and Flynn Huseby of Once Lost Ministries, which exists to boldly proclaim truth, both to those who are lost and for the local church to defend, encourage and exhort via the use of apologetics. Is the Seventh Day church solid? What is their history? Their view of Jesus? Evangelicals have long been confused by their doctrine; would they fail the test for a cult? What happened after cult expert Walter Martin tried to work with them to gain an evangelical footing? We will try and clarify what they believe and why it matters. They have a strong media presence and put on flashy prophecy conferences, but fail to identify themselves to those watching or attending. In the second half, we will discuss "in-house" apologetics - using solid doctrinal stances to help people navigate where their church is at - and unfortunately, often where it is going if the local church veers away from teaching doctrine to teaching the latest best-seller. As a young man, GW Chew saw his family dying early of lifestyle-related diseases, and he thought maybe he could do something about it. With a last name like that—yes, “Chew” is his real last name—maybe GW was destined to become a chef—that's exactly what he did. Because of his interest in Seventh Day Adventism, GW gradually became Chef Chew by experimenting with Seventh Day Adventist recipes, ultimately leading him down the path of opening up his own restaurant and now to being a plant-based meat manufacturer. His company—Something Better Foods—is already selling six different plant-based meats to school districts and some Whole Foods Market locations. As you'll hear in this interview from Chef Chew, unlike most plant-based meat, he doesn't rely on extrusion of plant protein isolates, but rather uses a layer-ization process he pioneered using whole soybeans to make his brand of alt-meat called Better Chew. As Chef Chew says, “it looks like chicken; it tastes like chicken; but it ain't chicken!” In this conversation we talk about Chef Chew's life path, his alternative financing strategies for Something Better Foods, where he's been and where he intends to take the company. Discussed in this episode Chef Chew went through the ICA Fund accelerator program. He recommends watching Live to 100 on Netflix. He loves the book Start with Why by Simon Sinek. He started with the Country Life Cookbook, which you can get for $2 on Amazon! Both Paul and Chef Chew love Butler's Soy Curls Our past episodes (51 and 108) with Plant Based On a Budget's Toni Okamoto More about Chef GW Chew GW Chew, aka Chef Chew, is the Founder & CEO of Something Better Foods Inc. and has been a vegan food inventor/restaurateur for over 15 years. Adopted at birth into a family with the last name “Chew,” Chef Chew believes that he was born with a mission and purpose to change lives for the better, one chew at a time. Chef Chew grew up in the “country” amongst a family of very heavy meat eaters and noticed over time that a lot of different diseases, from diabetes to cancer, plagued the members of his family. He later discovered that many of those same diseases have been linked to poor diet and overconsumption of animal meat products. Inspired to begin living a healthy lifestyle, Chef Chew switched to a plant-based diet in 2001 and started experimenting with creating vegan food products in 2004. He painstakingly invented the Better Chew proteins in his mom's kitchen and has perfected the textures and taste over the past 15 years. As part of his mission to democratize the access of healthy food, Chef Chew most recently created the Better Chew Box to deliver healthy and affordable plant-based protein solutions directly to your community!
In this episode, Watchman Fellowship president, James Walker, concludes his interview with Andre Traversa, former advocate of the Urantia Book. Today, we look at a brief history of how the Seventh Day Adventist church started. In this episode, Mike Charleston is joined with his wife Sarah and Larry Grim. The Seventh-day Adventist church may not be a popular as it once was, but it still has many followers around the world. They have a charismatic leader in Ellen G. White. She claims to have had over 2000 visions in her life. But what really are the teachings of this group that claims there is no difference except which day we worship on. We analyze some of their main teachings of the group. Sarah talks about her song of the week, and they go through another chapter of Sarah's book. On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (09/12/23), Hank answers the following questions:How does Jesus' fulfillment of the law change the fourth commandment? Whose idea was it to change the day on which we observe the Sabbath? (0:52)My mother became a Seventh-day Adventist and has been trying to convert me. Is this a sound denomination? (15:12)Are the sons of God mentioned in Genesis chapter 6 referring to demons? (19:26)
One core end times belief of Seventh Day Adventism is that of something called the "Investigative Judgment." This is the teaching that God has been investigating the Church since 1844 and will issue a final verdict on people's status at His return. The belief also asserts certain specific things about Satan, that he will be left to wander a desolate Earth for 1,000 literal years and that, ultimately, all the sins of the world are transferred to him as the scapegoat. These and other beliefs were largely put together by Adventism's prophet, Ellen G White. But are these teachings in alignment with the gospel? And was Ellen G White truly a prophet? Today we will examine this teaching and see 6 powerful reasons why Seventh Day Adventists are wrong about the Investigative Judgment and wrong about Ellen White. Does Hebrews 10:26 apply to my continual sinning? (1:18)I recently became a Christian, but I have been living with my boyfriend for years. What advice would you have for me in this situation? (7:01)In Matthew 11, why did John the Baptist ask his disciples to make sure Jesus was the Messiah? (15:10)Can you address the Seventh-Day Adventist view of Revelation chapter 20? They describe the bottomless pit as being the Earth. (19:56)What does the Bible say about drinking alcohol in moderation? (23:27)
Ryan Habbena is pastor of Conquering King Fellowship church in Eagan, Minnesota, Instructor at Village Schools of the Bible, President of the Mount Moriah Foundation and Zera Biblical Films, and board member of Echo Zoe Ministries. He joins us this month to talk about the Sabbath, from the historical requirements of Sabbath keeping to the contemporary, New Testament understanding of the Sabbath. Outline of the Discussion The Law, the Prophets, and the New Covenant writings have much to say about the sabbath. Addressing "Christendom" in the broadest sense (Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant, and even Cultic,) there is a broad range of views regarding the sabbath. Seventh Day Adventism, which Ryan describes as "a more tolerable cult," has in it's very name the adherence to sabbath-keeping, and that the sabbath is the seventh day of the week (Saturday.) It is an Antichrist doctrine that strays, according to them. Within mainline Protestant denominations, we find the "Puritan sabbath," which is the understanding that the sabbath has been changed from the seventh day to the first day. Within Messianic Judaism, we have a traditional sabbath, in keeping with traditional Judaism. It's helpful to look at the whole counsel of God in regard to the sabbath. The discussion of the sabbath begins with the seventh day of creation, in which God ceased. This began the seven day cycle. There is no command to keep the sabbath prior to Moses. Compare this to circumcision, which begins with Abraham. It is in the Decalogue (Ten Commandments) that we first see a command to keep the sabbath. (Exodus 20:8-11) It is in the commandment that the issue becomes more complicated. The other nine commandments are transcendent. We would say they are all still binding under the New Covenant. The place to start with a New Testament understanding is with the commands of Christ. What does He have to say about the specific Mosaic command regarding the sabbath? In Exodus 35, we see the penalty for sabbath-breaking is death. There is also a sabbath for the land. The land shall be cultivated for six years, and allowed to rest on the seventh year. There is both continuity and discontinuity between the Mosaic Law and the New Covenant. An example of continuity is that the only way anyone is saved, in any era, is by Grace through Faith. No one has ever been saved by observation of the Law. The rabbinical elements of Judaism had their rise during the Second Temple (Intertestamental) period. A major controversy among the rabbinical schools was in regards to how to observe the sabbath. What is bound, and what is loosed? The sabbath customs are very strange to the non-Jew. For example: the willingness to load the dishwasher on Saturday, but unwillingness to press the "start" button to allow the dishwasher to run (loading it seems to be the work, not running it, but they see things differently because of what the rabbis teach.) Similarly, the elevators have a "sabbath" mode, whereby the door opens and closes at every floor; there is no need to press any buttons. Some of the tension between Jesus and the rabbis was their perception that He was breaking the sabbath. Jesus deliberately violated rabbinical traditions without violating the Law. As an aside, in Martin Luther's hymn "A Mighty Fortress is our God," we find the line "Lord Sabaoth His Name." This does not mean "Lord of the Sabbath," but rather "Lord of Hosts." Jeremiah prophesies a New Covenant (31:31-34.) This covenant is not like the covenant made with their fathers. The issue of the sabbath is directly related to Covenant. It matters which covenant we are under. The sabbath is something valuable to be looked towards as a believer, but is not in regards to an old covenant law. Romans 14 speaks to differences between the old and new covenants; things like what to eat, what festivals to observe,
Two former Seventh Day Adventists join us to look at this derivative church within what is broadly considered Christianity. But do their beliefs cross the line into heresy and even cult status? We take a very quick tour through the highlights of Adventism, focusing mainly on where it seems to stray from traditional Christianity.
Former Seventh Day Adventist and apologist Myles Christian of @answeringadventism walks us through foundational teachings of Seventh Day Adventism and it's eschatology.Find out more about Myles Christian and Seventh Day Adventism at his youtube page >HereHereHere
This week's guest is Cat Delmar. Cat grew up in a nominally Seventh-day Adventist family. The SDA churches, however, were anything but nominal. They had all the rules, from no caffeine to no pierced ears. “There's a lot of control of the body [in Seventh-Day Adventism].”At sixteen, Cat took ownership of her faith and started going to church on her own, but she never quite fit in. By her twenties, she realized that the difficult questions in adulthood don't have easy “Biblical” answers. Before she knew it, she's figured out that the SDA church doesn't have the answers and that perhaps no one does.Today, Cat doesn't need solid answers. She finds peace within herself and in her connection with nature. That deadly assault outside of Waco, Texas was the culmination of a 51-day standoff between government agents, four of whom were killed in the line of duty, and the Davidians. The assault ended horrifically when a tragic fire quickly consumed the compound and claimed the lives of over 80 Davidians, including 26 children. This week, for the first time ever in podcast format, we are releasing James Walker's 2018 interview with Robert Scott, a Branch Davidian we helped break free from David Koresh's influence just months before the gruesome fire. In this episode, Brett is joined once again by Michael Rainey, a convert from Seventh-Day Adventism and the music director at St. Paul's Co-Cathedral in Saskatoon. Last week, they talked about Michael's conversion and his thoughts on church music. This week, they delve deeper into the topic of liturgical music, discussing its history and controversies. Show Snippet: "Musicians have long been known as a contentious and irrational sort. So it shouldn't be surprising to anyone that this has been a struggle. When you think about the music ministry at mass, there is something, different about it as compared to some of the other ministries that happen."

This week on Thinking Faith, Dr. Brett talks with Michael Raney, a convert from Seventh Day Adventism and director of music at St. Paul's Co. Cathedral in Saskatoon. They discuss Michael's journey to Catholicism and his experiences with church music. Show Snippet: "I grew up in a Catholic family, but I never really felt like I had a personal relationship with God. It wasn't until my early 20s that I started exploring different religions and spiritual practices. I was searching for something that would fill the void I felt inside."

TW: r*pe & profanity ‼️ ⚠️DISCLAIMER:⚠️ This entire show is a psychotic delusion and not meant to be taken seriously in anyway. I am an unqualified, mentally ill professional with zero education, money or class. Please ignore every single thing I say, since I have psychosis. All of the characters I mention on the show are completely fictional and created from my own delusions. I am not offering anything I say as advice- ‼️FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY‼️ Whew. This week I start off with some complaints (as usual). Then I get into why Seventh Day Adventism is harming the LGBTQ+ community and all of womankind- everywhere. I dive into how healthcare and capitalism do not care about you unless you are rich and white. I explain my thoughts on euthanasia and why I deeply consider it. This conversation swirls into a deeply satisfying roast of some psychotic delusions (losers). I explain my desire to perform, why I am so funny and the singular movie that healed every wound I've ever had. I talk about why comedy is important- why everyone deserves HUMAN RIGHTS and why I do what I do. I hope y'all enjoy this one, I recorded on International Women's Day and it was a whole lot of fun. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/manicstateofmind/message

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (09/30/22), Hank answers the question of whether or not it is silly to believe in Noah's flood. Since Christians believe in a supernatural explanation for the creation of the universe, Hank argues that it is perfectly plausible to believe in the great flood. Since reason forces us to look beyond the natural world to a supernatural Creator who made everything, Christians thereby demonstrate that they are truly open-minded.Hank also answers the following questions:What is your take on the Lordship Salvation debate? When the Lord threatens to spew the church of Laodicea out of His mouth; is He speaking of eternal destruction? Will someone be able to sin in heaven? If we have free will, it would seem we would be able to.What do you think about Jack Van Impe?Is there any legitimacy to Seventh Day Adventism? Are we in error by worshipping on Sunday?
