We promise to make this conversation a colourful one as we speak to global colour authority Pantone.  The firm is a provider of professional standards for the design industries, creating a universal language of colour that enables colour critical decisions through every stage of the workflow for brands and the manufacturer. But did you know that Pantone's origins could be traced back to a commercial printing company in New York City in the 1950s? The company had systematised and simplified its pigments and coloured inks, and that's how the Pantone we know came about. Today, Pantone works with some of the world's most recognisable consumer, fashion and technology brands, with over 10 million designers and producers relying on its products and services to help define, communicate and control colour from inspiration to realisation.  The firm's business can be broadly split into four segments: (1) Pantone Standards which feature digital and physical colour specification and workflow tools, the (2) Pantone Colour Institute which provides customised colour standards, brand identity, product colour consulting and trend forecasting, (3) Pantone B2B Licensing and last but not least (4) Pantone Lifestyle that brings colour and design across apparel, home and accessories.  More notably, Pantone is also an operating subsidiary of Veralto, a US$5 billion essential technology solutions leader listed on the New York Stock Exchange. But how does the business work exactly? Meanwhile, Pantone and luxury car maker Porsche together presented an exclusive colour called Turbonite. That's a colour with an elegant metallic grey tone customised for the brand and its Turbo derivatives. But what does such collaborations mean for Pantone when it comes down to the P&L? On Under the Radar, Money Matter's finance presenter Chua Tian Tian posed these questions to Elley Cheng, President, Pantone. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A conversation with Jonas Steinfeld, a researcher and consultant based in Brazil specialising in agroforestry systems, about the many different levels of complexity in agroforestry. Does complexity lead to more or less work? Does complexity lead to more or less carbon storage, and why? And are complex agroforestry systems more profitable? The scientific world has been quite clear up until now that adding more complexity to agriculture, especially with perennials like trees, almost always makes massive environmental differences. So what is holding us back? Why aren't we planting trees everywhere?Learn from one of the leading scientists studying agroforestry systems in Brazil, the global hotspot and epicentre of agroforestry. One of the most common misconceptions about ALS is that it only affects older white men. In reality, the disease can affect anyone of any age – and of any ethnicity. Many Shades of ALS, a team within the I AM ALS organization, is working hard to dispel some of these misconceptions. Their mission is to bring attention to people of color living with ALS and the unique challenges they often face – as well as providing resources for their mental, physical, and social well-being. Juan Reyes is a veteran living with ALS, an advocate, and co-chair of Many Shades of ALS team. Lakeia Nard is a member of the team who lost her son, King'nazir, to a rare form of pediatric ALS and also runs her own nonprofit, Melanin Children Matter. Today, on Endpoints, they join us to talk about how the team came together, its mission, and how the ALS research and medical communities could be better serving people of color with the disease.Support the show: https://www.als.net/donate/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast 335: Black Lives Matter is Yoga with Danielle Tridenti   Description: Black Lives Matter (BLM) was formed ten years ago, and while many people jumped on the bandwagon and pledged their support for the cause a few years ago in light of the murder of George Floyd, it seems like BLM is getting “less popular”. It is important to continue this conversation about BLM and explore how it relates to yoga. Danielle Tridenti shares their experience in showing up as an ally for the cause.   Danielle is a facilitator of yoga, an embodiment coach, and an equity + inclusion group facilitator/consultant, who believes that cellular and personal change informs and affects institutional, collective, and cultural change. They have over 5000 hours of training in yoga, somatics, trauma informed care, anti-racism, equity + inclusion, as well as 20 years of experience in teaching and group facilitation, and 10 years as a mental health clinician and social worker. Currently, Danielle offers individual and group experiences, education/training, coaching, and consulting centered around embodying equity, LGTBQIA2S+ affirmation and inclusion, and solidarity with a trauma informed, intersectional, anti-racist, anti-patriarchal, and anti-oppression framework to individuals and organizations.   Recently, a student in Danielle's class asked Danielle to remove their BLM shirt. Danielle shares more about how they handled that situation with the student and the studio they were teaching at, as well as their thoughts on why yoga is political. Danielle also explains why BLM and showing up as an ally is part of yoga. And discusses privilege, creating “safe spaces” in yoga, and how ahimsa (non-violence) ties into all of this.   Key Takeaways: [2:39] Shannon introduces her guest for this episode - Danielle Tridenti. The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast 334: Many Shades of Brown in Yoga with Anjali Rao   Description: Conversations around race and identity in yoga, especially South Asian identities and the experience of South Asians in the West, tend to be uncomfortable. However, it is still important to give voice to the South Asian experience in yoga and to also talk about how yoga has been shaped by colonialism, capitalism and the Western interpretation of yoga as well as caste, religion, and race. Anjali Rao shares her insights about her experience of being brown in modern yoga.   Anjali is a South Asian yoga educator and practitioner who explores histories obscured by patriarchal and colonial narratives. She integrates yoga history and philosophy with storytelling, imagery, and poetry.   Anjali highlights that our identity is composed of different parts, which is why it's important for discussions of this topic to be nuanced. She also emphasizes that South Asians are not a monolith and that our lived experience is influenced by our different identities. Anjali provides a summary of the history of yoga, and provides her perspective on how we can embody ahimsa, what social justice has to do with yoga, and much more.   Key Takeaways: [6:03] Shannon introduces her guest for this episode - Anjali Rao. [10:17] What is the work that Anjali does and who does she do it for? [12:41] What are yoga teachers missing in the story of how yoga got to be where it is now? [18:23] What is Anjali's response to people who try to counter bringing attention to our different identities by saying that we are all humans walking this earth and we are all yoga teachers? [20:59] What makes being a brown yoga teacher so difficult and complex right now? [25:36] Anjali shares her perspective on why it's okay to say "namaste" at the end of a yoga class. [28:02] Shannon pops in to share a short anecdote of how OfferingTree has helped her to schedule guests on the podcast. [30:09] How can yoga teachers start doing the work so that they are not simply doing certain actions as a token gesture but rather going deeper than that? [36:14] Anjali shares a brief summary of the history of yoga. [42:34] How did yoga end up in the West in the way that it is shared today? Anjali talks a little about colonialism and the other factors that led to shaping the practice of yoga in the west. [49:16] Shannon and Anjali discuss how we have lost a lot of the essence of yoga in our modern yoga studios. [52:50] What are some baby steps people can take to do this work of liberation and opposing harmful systems? [57:54] Anjali invites us to start normalizing saying we don't know something or that we made a mistake. [60:08] Learn more from Anjali via her podcast. To celebrate Welcoming Week 2022, a week when communities and organizations across the entire country come together to recognize America's diverse heritage and to reaffirm that everyone is welcome here, today's conversation focuses on one of the largest immigrant groups in the U.S.: Asian Americans. This episode's guest is Dr. Neil Ruiz, associate director of race and ethnicity research at the Pew Research Center in Washington DC, who has spent his career studying the international movement of people across borders, high-skilled immigration globally, and in recent years his focus has been studying the Asian American population in the US, something that resonates with him as he is himself Asian American. Prior to joining the Center, Neil has held roles at George Washington University, the Brookings Institution, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. Today's episode focuses on a large and new research initiative that he has been leading called Being Asian in America and that released new findings just last month in August 2022. Episode Themes: The Being Asian in America initiative, its narrative and storytelling approach, and how it contributes to our understanding of Asians in America Why we need to use “hard” and “soft” data to understand immigrant communities and their stories and how the project has shaped Neil's own growth and understanding as a researcher The challenges of summarizing and extracting common themes from conversations with 264 Asians across the US, representing 18 distinct Asian ethnic origin groups and numerous languages How the mainstream American understanding of Asia as a region and what constitutes Asia has changed and evolved over time, and what the Pew project adds to our understanding of the diversity of Asians and the Asian identity in America The challenge of cultural adaptation vs identity: key differences between different generations of Asian American immigrants. How racial and ethnic identity intersects with other aspects of identity such as gender or being LGBTQ+ How Asians in the U.S. perceive their own identity? Where are we now and do Asian Americans feel a sense of belonging in the U.S., especially given the recent wave of hate crimes against Asians? What leading a project on Asian Americans means for Neil personally, as the child of Filipino immigrants to the U.S. Episode Resources: The Pew Research Center's Being Asian in America project Check out the documentary film from the project! To do this, we continue the third installment of our Lessons From the Front Lines series. Much like our regular shows, this series will provide same excellent content to help you put Compliance In Context, but will deliver that content in a more narrative form—like a fireside conversation with an industry pro. The show will focus on providing practical advice and takeaways that focus on real-life, tough lessons other industry professionals and regulators have learned on the front lines of our industry. To help guide us through today’s conversation, we welcome in David Curran, the Chief Sustainability and ESG Officer at Paul Weiss. For anyone wanting to learn more about ESG or struggling with implementing ESG policies inside your firm’s compliance program, you won’t want to miss this episode. Listen in as David provides invaluable insights from his experiences on the front lines of the ESG space. And if you have an idea for a future Lessons From the Front Lines episode, reach out to us on LinkedIn and Twitter or at complianceincontextpodcast.com. We’d love to hear from you! Interview Reviewing the frameworks of ESG How can we demysitify ESG? Why do firms struggle with ESG so much? Having a technology process to address ESG controls Biggest challenges in moving the ESG conversation forward How best to respond when you identify a deficiency Detailing the attitude shift on ESG in the investment management space Quotes: “[I]f you are taking a position on something that you believe in, that is essential to your corporation terms of its commitment, how are you governing it is really the essential issue. So to demystify it, for example, with compliance and legal executives, is to think of it like a compliance and legal regime. Governance is governance and governance means, how do you have a policy and procedure? How do you track, measure, monitor, and report on progress against these obligations? It's not any more complicated than that.” “[Governance] is at the core of virtually every major corporation’s business agenda today. It is not esoteric. It is not out in left field. It is existential.” “And so the demystification is to take it into its component parts. And part of that is to disassemble ESG, look at the governance part, flip the acronym and say, ‘Whatever you’re doing in the S category, whatever you’re doing in the E category, how are you governing them?” Because if you're not governing it, it doesn't get done.” Resources: David Curran, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP Compliance in Context Contact Form Compliance in Context, LinkedIn Twitter:
