This week, a park icon gets an update, a rare character encounter lands at Pixar Place Hotel, we talk about Earth Day at the resort, the 70th guided tour details are released and booking is open for it, a new checkout option for Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta, we finish out conversation with Michael, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: An iconic part of Disneyland history – and Disney in general will be getting refurbished soon. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room closed this week to perform routine maintenance on the lighting, sound, and show. The mighty tree of Tangaroa will be recreated from a high resolution digital scan. The current Tangaroa is no longer able to be repaired, having been there since the attraction opening in 1963. The attraction will reopen later this summer. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/tangaroa-tree-be-rebuilt-during-upcoming-refurbishment-walt-disneys-enchanted-tiki-room-disneyland/ https://www.micechat.com/146135-rolly-crump-impostor-syndrome-part-2/ Tour dates are open for the new guided tour coming to Disneyland for the 70th anniversary. A Story of Celebration: 70th Anniversary Guided Tour is a 2-hour guided walking tour, which includes a ride aboard the Mark Twain, Disneyland Railroad, a Lightning Lane for a select attraction, reserved viewing for Paint the Night, which includes popcorn, and a tour keepsake. The price is $120 per guest. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance and are highly recommended. Check out the link in the show notes to reserve your tour! – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ https://disneyland.disney.go.com/en-ca/events-tours/disneyland/story-of-celebration-tour/ A character not often seen at the resorts made a visit for Earth Day. WALL-E was in the lobby of the Pixar Place Hotel roaming around and greeting guests. He also opened up his storage compartment to share the plant, potted in the boot, just like in the movie! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/04/24/dear-disney-we-are-begging-for-this-rare-character-meet-and-greet-to-become-permanent/ As we reported on previously, some permits have been filed with the Anaheim Planning and Building Department in relation to Porto's coming to Downtown Disney. We talked about removing the two ticket booths from the esplanade, but did not mention the permit to tear down the existing building – currently home to Earl of Sandwich. No timeline on the permits, but this is forward progress. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ Once again, Disneyland Cast Members were invited to create upcycled art projects to be shown off to guests for Earth Month. This time, the creations, ranging from a Haunted Mansion created from cardboard pizza boxes, to Maleficent in dragon form made from plastic cutlery. The display is under the Silly Symphony Swings for guests to enjoy. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ This week, the Disney Parks Blog recognized a cast member who brings joy to countless (or not so countless) guests. Antonio has been working at the Disneyland Resort for 18 years, and has received over 735 cast compliments from guests. Antonio works at Pixar Pier attractions and before Disneyland, worked for nearly 10 years in hospitality in Dubai and Qatar. Antonio's rise to fame is in part due to his exuberant energy and fun dance moves for guests! – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/dancing-disneyland-resort-cast-member-inspires-happiness/ Last week, we talked about recycling your food scraps at Disneyland. Since then, little droids have appeared on top of food scraps containers to remind guests that only food scraps should be deposited in the bin they are standing on. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ A new way to checkout at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta has arrived. A kiosk for guest self-checkout has been installed. The system scans the items on the tray, adds it up, and asks for payment. Currently, Magic Key discounts must involve a cast member, and payment can only be made with credit or debit card. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ Weeklyteers who may be in the parks starting May 9th should know that it is Grad Nite season at the resort again, and park hours may be impacted. This year, there is some new, more generic graduation merchandise available for purchase. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ SnackChat: New food items coming to the resort – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/04/24/disney-just-announced-23-new-treats-are-coming-next-week/#more-1028273 Discussion Topic: Michael Holland host of From Out of the Past Podcast https://www.instagram.com/fromoutofthepastpodcast https://linktr.ee/hollandimaginarium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK7GRiUhhB8 https://www.youtube.com/@AlextheHistorian

News: We finally have official confirmation of the new villains at this year's Oogie Boogie Bash. Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb is meeting and greeting in the Disney Jr. theater, and Hades, replacing Cruella in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. Dr. Doofenshmirtz has received mixed-to-negative reviews on the look of the face character's execution. - https://www.micechat.com/395538-disneyland-update-construction-tricks-and-halloween-treats/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_otONSuoDo Every holiday season, the culinary team at Disneyland brings us the Haunted Mansion Holiday Gingerbread House. The Disney Parks Blog posted a behind-the-scenes look at what it took this year to bring the gingerbread house to life, and how the design came about. Head on over to the link in our show notes to see all the details. - https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-the-making-of-the-haunted-mansion-holiday-gingerbread-house/ Downtown Disney has some new and relocated decor for the season. Some of the decor from the Mickey and Friends Tram route have come to Downtown Disney. - https://www.micechat.com/395538-disneyland-update-construction-tricks-and-halloween-treats/ Magic Key holders have a lot of perks at the moment for the holidays. A new exclusive trading card will be released each week from August 26th through September 19th on Monday through Thursday. A Magic Shot featuring Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove is by the Matterhorn August 19th through September 14th. Finally, a combo photo op, candy, and commemorative patch featuring Hades is under Silly Symphony Swings during Oogie Boogie Bash. - https://www.micechat.com/395538-disneyland-update-construction-tricks-and-halloween-treats/ https://mouseinfo.com/2024/08/magic-key-perk-all-2024-halloween-time-freebies-purchase-opps-more/#google_vignette Construction will soon begin on the expanded Avengers Campus early next year, so some clearing needs to happen backstage. Unfortunately, one of the (hopefully) temporary casualties of this is the Red Car Trolly. The maintenance barn for the trolly is where the new Avengers Infinity Defense attraction will be constructed, so it needs to be taken down. No word on if the Red Car Trolly will return. - https://www.micechat.com/395538-disneyland-update-construction-tricks-and-halloween-treats/ A missing treat has returned to Disney California Adventure! The Choco Smash Bar was taken off the Pym Test Kitchen menu last year, replaced by the cake version. The candy bar version is back, joining the cake version as an option. - https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2024/08/25/a-missing-disney-snack-is-back/ Magic Happens had it's last performance recently, and in it's place is a new offering. The Halloween Cavalcade is a short production with a couple of Main Street vehicles and a float with characters in their Halloween costumes. There are also quite a few walking characters as well. - https://www.micechat.com/395538-disneyland-update-construction-tricks-and-halloween-treats/ Some quick construction updates from around the resort. The Haunted Mansion extended queue is starting to take shape with the main walls of the new section looking pretty far along in construction. The gift shop at the end of the attraction has begun vertical construction. The transformation into Bayou Country from Critter Country is progressing nicely, along with Tiana's Bayou Adventure, which is testing off and on. Finally, the Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree has a new sign and the refurbishment of the dining area looks to be wrapping up. - https://www.micechat.com/395538-disneyland-update-construction-tricks-and-halloween-treats/ https://youtu.be/0jYcPQlCRK0?si=lXt0TI9uAK1ixMzj https://www.micechat.com/383350-disneyland-update-rainy-days-reveals-and-reinventions/ SnackChat: Hungry Bear BBQ Jamboree - https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-hungry-bear-barbecue-jamboree-foodie-guide/ Discussion Topic: D23 Disneyland Park Days

The biggest issue is just all the guests who want to be in the new land and experience all of the changes. It is still a rather small area, so even a modest amount of guests can make the area feel overcrowded. Stroller parking is also an issue, with cast members constantly trying to rearrange them to provide more space. Little is left of Halloween anywhere, but if you look hard enough, there are still some spooky spots left. Otherwise, the holidays have moved in hard and fast! This year, the seasonal bucket comes with a special feature: it plays music! Starting November 11th, guests can pick one of these delightful buckets up at the resort. The bucket can be wound up on the bottom like a music box, and will play music while holiday scenes rotate around the bucket, AND there is still room inside for a good amount of popcorn! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/05/alert-a-musical-holiday-popcorn-bucket-is-coming-soon-to-disney-world-and-disneyland/ A new seasonal treat is coming to Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen Express in Downtown Disney. There are some options in front of the Christmas tree on Buena Vista Street, and a Magic Key specific shot by Silly Symphony Swings. Guests typically have 45 days to download their Magic Shot photos through their Disneyland account before they disappeared, but that has been extended to a full calendar year! – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/11/holiday-magic-shots-now-available-at-disney-california-adventure-photo-expiration-date-extended/ Guests who have been heading to the resort from the Harbor Boulevard side may have noticed that for a while now, the sign for the resort has been looking less than stellar. Fear not! The crews are already at work on repainting the sign and getting it back in pristine order for guests to be welcomed to Disneyland, as well as thanking guests for visiting. MiceChat thinks that it might be getting a facelift to promote Disney100, which will be centered in Disneyland. – https://www.micechat.com/338333-disneyland-news-a-storm-is-brewing/ Weeklyteers who love to shop, this next story is for you! At select locations, there is now the option to order items through mobile checkout and then come and pick it up later in the day. The store will hold the item, which could be amazing for some of the hard to get or larger items for sale in the parks. To be clear, a guest needs to go into the store and purchase the item through mobile checkout like before, but now there is an option to have them hold it for you. – https://www.micechat.com/338333-disneyland-news-a-storm-is-brewing/ Over at the Animation Building in Disney California Adventure, two sisters are back for their meet and greet! Anna and Elsa are finally back meeting with their subjects. Fantasmic! debuted on May 13, 1992 at Disneyland. Over the years, the show has added and subtracted different scenes and elements. Some of those include the 2009 upgrade to digital projection and the current 45-foot tall dragon, known as Murphy! In 2017, new scenes and songs were added including Aladdin. The show has been performed more than 11,000 times since its debut. Fantasmic! returns to the Rivers of America on May 28th. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/05/fantasmic-celebrates-30-years-today-and-gears-up-for-spectacular-return-to-disneyland-park-on-may-28/ Last week, Disneyland teased something returning after long last to Disney California Adventure. The Red Car Trolley should be traveling on the tracks on Buena Vista Street and down Hollywood Land. No exact date was mentioned, but it should return before the full swing of summer. Fans of Trader Sams may be excited with updates to the menu at the popular restaurant at the Disneyland Hotel. In Downtown Disney, the former ESPN Zone building will house “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure. This is a traveling exhibit which features Joe Gardner from Pixar's “Soul” and takes guests through the history of American Jazz. The exhibit will be run from June 1st through July 4th. Admission is free. – https://www.micechat.com/321627-disneyland-update-rise-and-fall-the-rapid-pace-of-change/ Fans of Encanto have another reason to celebrate! Mirabel will be returning to Disney California Adventure for meet and greets at the Paradise Gardens Park. Mirabel was last seen in Frontierland, after originally starting out in DCA at the same location she is now returning to. In addition to meeting Mirabel, guests can also catch the “We Don't Talk About Bruno” projection show on the facade of “it's a small world” every night. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/05/encanto-mirabel-meet-and-greet-returning-to-paradise-gardens-park-at-disney-california-adventure-soon/ June is just a busy month for celebrations! Members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community celebrate pride every June. With all the controversy about the Florida “don't say gay” bill and Disney, the company has decided from now until June 30th, all profits from any pride merchandise will be donated to LGBTQIA+ organizations. To enter the parks, guests will need a park reservation plus a valid theme park admission ticket. Reservations are currently limited to California residents, and groups of no more than three households. Reservations will launch on April 12th for guests that currently have valid theme park tickets (not annual passes), no earlier than 8am Pacific time. April 15th guests will be able to purchase new theme park tickets. Reservations will be made available on a rolling basis for greatest access to the most guests. Park Hopping will be allowed, but only after 1pm on the reservation date. Guests with multi-day tickets will have to make separate reservations for each day they wish to attend. For complete details, visit the link in our show notes. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/04/heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-disneyland-resorts-reopening-including-theme-park-reservations-and-tickets/ The Orange County Register posted a list of attractions that will be open, and which attractions will be closed when the parks reopen. Some notable closed attractions are the Jungle Cruise, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, the Monorail, the Matterhorn, Grizzly River Run, and the Animation building. For the complete list, check out the link in our show notes. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/04/06/which-disneyland-and-dca-rides-will-be-open-when-the-parks-return/ When Disneyland reopens, there will be some limitations on indoor attractions. Attractions have to be less than 15 minutes long, and must be queued outdoors. There is a question on if Rise of the Resistance qualifies under this 15 minute limit. Pirates, Haunted, Small World, and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln are about that length, so we will have to see what happens with those. Other issues, like masks getting wet on attraction like Splash and Grizzly River Run could pose issues. – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/news/2021/03/26/california-theme-park-reopening-guidelines-released-with-specific-limits-on-indoor-attractions-and-more/ and https://www.micechat.com/286268-disneyland-update-to-dream-the-impossible-dream/ With Disneyland preparing to open in just a few weeks, there is a lot of work going on with new and existing projects, which can be seen with MiceChat’s aerial photography this week. The Matterhorn looks like there are workers on the mountain, barges are likely servicing Fantasmic! infrastructure, Splash Mountain appears to be having work done, Storybook Land has been drained and work has wrapped up on King Arthur’s Carousel, the Haunted Mansion, and Snow White. – https://www.micechat.com/286878-disneyland-update-soarin-over-a-soon-to-open-disneyland/ Orange County, where Disneyland is located, has entered the Orange tier, which allows for a maximum of 25% capacity. Indoor capacity limited to a maximum of 25%, indoor dining limited to a maximum of 25% capacity. Orange county could move into the yellow tier soon, which would increase these levels to a maximum of 35% capacity, indoor capacity limited to a maximum of 25% and indoor dining limited to a maximum of 50% capacity. – https://www.micechat.com/286878-disneyland-update-soarin-over-a-soon-to-open-disneyland/ and https://www.laughingplace.com/w/news/2021/03/26/california-theme-park-reopening-guidelines-released-with-specific-limits-on-indoor-attractions-and-more/ After Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened, it was just a matter of time before this next change showed up elsewhere in Disneyland. When the Blue Bayou reopens it will have alcohol on the menu. This will operate similarly to how it works in Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge, which allows guests to order off a limited menu for beverages. Beer, wine, and a signature drink, which is a hurricane will be available. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/03/disney-parks-best-bites-april-2021/ and https://www.micechat.com/286631-blue-bayou-dining-to-add-limited-adult-beverages-when-it-reopens/   Continuing with their environmentally friendly approach, Disney Parks will start offering the option to purchase bamboo utensils at select dining locations starting this Spring. They even come with a handy travel pouch to keep them clean and together. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/03/disney-parks-best-bites-april-2021/ For guests that attended the Touch of Disney event and liked the brisket Mac and cheese, the Disney Parks Blog has posted the recipe to make it at home. There is quite a lot that goes into the various parts of the dish, but looks like it will be quite tasty. Check out the link in the show notes to try your hand at this one. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/04/disneymagicmoments-cooking-up-the-magic-brisket-mac-n-cheese-recipe-from-a-touch-of-disney-at-disney-california-adventure-park/ Guests that have attended a Touch of Disney have experienced some issues when it came to cast member staffing. Disney has had trouble filling all the shifts needed to properly staff all the locations, when taking into account call outs. This additional work for the cast members that do work their shifts, has caused those cast members to call out as well. The way Disney is calling back the most senior cast is causing a delay in getting the proper levels, which keeps this problem going. – https://www.micechat.com/286878-disneyland-update-soarin-over-a-soon-to-open-disneyland/ Mickey Mouse himself has moved to a more friendly location for photos with guests during the Touch of Disney event. The famous mouse now makes appearances in the extended queue section of Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. Previously, Mickey was in his conductor outfit up at the Silly Symphony Swings. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/04/01/this-new-selfie-spot-at-disneylands-a-touch-of-disney-has-us-feeling-so-emotional/ The Lamplight Lounge has a secret drink menu! It has been around for a while, but the Disney Food Blog has a breakdown of all the options, as well as some of the lesser known items on that menu. All of the drinks have fun Disney-like names, and look beautiful. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/04/02/do-you-know-about-this-extra-secret-disney-drink-menu/ Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen Express has come out with another new beignet creation. This time, it is banana’s foster glazed beignets. This variation comes in a 4 pack with a vanilla bean crème anglaise dipping sauce. The beignets are covered in a banana rum glaze and topped with a cinnamon-sugar dust, with a caramel drizzle.- https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/04/review-bananas-foster-glazed-beignets-at-ralph-brennans-jazz-kitchen-express-in-downtown-disney-district/ Two things to note at Downtown Disney this week. First, you can buy a refillable mug at Wetzel’s for $14.99, which includes a drink, you can then bring it back for a free refill, with additional refills for just $1! The other is a corndog that contains a pickle with a hotdog inside of it! You can pick one up at Blue Ribbon Corndogs. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/04/02/whats-new-in-downtown-disney-pickle-corn-dogs-tweed-ears-and-4-mugs/ Disneyland launched quite the PR campaign almost two weeks ago now, but we wanted to make sure that we learned more about it before we discussed it on the show. It was a little delayed by our trip to California as well. DisneylandForward is the name of this campaign, and while initially people thought it was plans for an expansion, it is really just a vague representation of what they could do, if Anaheim will approve the rezoning into more of a mixed use area.- http://www.disneylandforward.com/ and https://www.micechat.com/286268-disneyland-update-to-dream-the-impossible-dream/

News: MiceChat got some more aerial photos of the resort this week and showed off some of the ongoing construction. Before taking to the skies, hand washing stations have been spotted just inside the gates at Disneyland before the entrance tunnels to Main Street. It seems like there is a lot of work underway to prepare for an eventual reopening. The bridge to Frontierland is almost complete, with the land’s entrance sign about to be re-installed. The last of the “french fry” rocks at the entrance to Tomorrowland have been removed and are in the process of being cleared away. The Snow White Facade has been completed and the scaffolding has been removed. Work also appears to be progressing on King Arthur’s Carousel. – https://www.micechat.com/270189-disneyland-update-spooky-skies-over-an-empty-kingdom/ Over in Disney California Adventure, new plexiglass shields have been installed at the entrance turnstiles. There have also been some iron fencing installed to facilitate a shield between entrance sections. The paths in front of the new Spider-Man attraction appear to be completed, but the rest of the campus is still dirt. The PYM test kitchen is still missing walls as well. The new administrative building behind Cars Land looks almost complete. Gondolas are still missing from the Pal-A-Round and the swings have been removed from the Silly Symphony Swings. With all of this work happening, the parks should look great when they reopen to the public! – https://www.micechat.com/270189-disneyland-update-spooky-skies-over-an-empty-kingdom/ With Orange County being removed from the purple status last week, restaurants in Downtown Disney have begun seating guests at 25% capacity indoors. There is still outdoor seating available as well. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/09/photos-restaurants-in-downtown-disney-now-allowing-indoor-dining/ The largest U.S. theme parks have reported no COVID-19 outbreaks since reopening. Florida’s Orange County Department of Health said in late August that Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld Orlando haven’t had any outbreaks. An outbreak is defined as teo or more people with coronavirus who are linked to a potentially extensive transmission within a setting or organization, according to the CDC. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/09/14/largest-u-s-theme-parks-report-no-covid-19-outbreaks-since-reopening/ With Orange County moving into the red category, museums could reopen with limited capacity, including the Bowers Museum, which is currently hosting “Inside the Walt Disney Archives: 50 Years of Preserving the Magic” exhibition. Here to join us and talk about her experience is supporter and Community Manager Kate. This week there was a second Downtown Disney shopping event held in the old ESPN Zone building. As we reported on before, the Pop-Up! Disney interior hasn’t been changed, they just added areas to look at and choose merchandise. Items were limited to 2 per guest. This episode we are heading to Disney California Adventure for our first ever attraction double header as we ride two attractions in one episode!  First we’ll attend a wild band concert on the Silly Symphony Swings.  Located in the Paradise Pier section of the park, the Silly Symphony Swings are described in the guide in the following manner:  Enjoy boardwalk fun at its swinging best.  The Thrill level describes the attraction accurately as a spinning ride and it does have a height requirement in that guests need to be 40” or taller to ride. After the Silly Symphony Swings, we’re going to head over to the Jumping’ Jellyfish attraction.  Also located in Paradise Pier, this ride is described in the guide map in this way:  Drop down through a colorful forest of kelp.  The thrill level warns that this attraction features Small Drops and it also has the 40” or taller height requirement on it. Before our feet leave the ground for these two attractions, here are five fast facts about the Silly Symphony Swings and Jumping Jellyfish. 1.  Jumping’ Jellyfish is a California Adventure opening day attraction, beginning operation on February 8, 2001.  Silly Symphony Swings officially opened on June 11, 2010, but it replaced a similar attraction called the Orange Stinger which was basically the same ride but enclosed in a giant orange. 2.   Silly Symphony Sings is themes to the 1935 cartoon, The Band Concert where Mickey conducts an orchestra during the middle of tornado.  When the ride opened in 2010, it coincided with the 75th anniversary of the cartoon! 3.  The mild Jumping’ Jellyfish attraction at California Adventure has a sister attraction, also named Jumping’ Jellyfish, at Tokyo DisneySea in Japan.  The version at Tokyo DisneySea opened a few month after it’s California counterpart on September 4, 2001. 4.  The two music pieces heard during your ride on Silly Symphony Swings are both by William Tell.  The soundtrack includes his famous Overture and his classic piece entitled The Storm 5. Though they do so in much different ways, both attractions lift riders 40 feet off the ground and both have a ride time of generally about a minute and thirty seconds. With me today for this special double header is my friend John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this classic Disneyland attraction.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this trip is a binaural recording.  And now let’s ride Silly Symphony Swings and Jumping’ Jellyfish at Disney California adventure. WEDway Radio - Walt Disney World and Disneyland Examined with some Disney History

In this episode of WEDway Radio Nate and Matt take a look at the Disney California Adventure refurbishment/expansion project and its progress from 2010 - 2011.   When we originally looked at the project in 2009 construction walls were going up, and most of the project was either breaking ground or still on the drawing board.  Some of the thematic changes were complete by 2010, like rethemeing the shops ofParadise Pier, changing the Sunwheel to Mickeys Funwheel, and retheming the Orange Stinger to the Silly Symphony Swings and the nighttime World of Color water show opened. Between 2010 and 2011, there were a few more additions and changes.  Paradise Pier was completed, Goofy's Sky School opened as the rethemed Mulholland Madness nd the new entrance gates opened. On the show we discuss many of the changes for 2012 including the shops of Buena Vista Street, the Red Car Trolley, Carthay Circle Theater and the new Carsland themed area are scheduled to open.
