Sita Then is an art therapist who runs Flourish Art Therapy, a small, bright studio tucked into a garden surrounded by trees, in Royston, BC. She invites her clients to her studio, where they might start with something as simple as a line. In the act of putting something on paper, they dare to exist outside of themselves and explore feelings that may be incredibly difficult and tender to express. "Art therapy, can work for just about anyone, from 5 to 100, of any artistic skill level. It's a mental health modality that combines the process of art expression with models of counselling and psychotherapy." In our incredible conversation, we delve into how we can make space to unravel some of the mysteries within ourselves. Sita creates a liminal, safe space for her clients to express their humanity and assists in understanding our own expressions. Art therapy, as Sita explains, is a craft that can open doors we didn't know we had. We can open them if we want to or slam them shut if we need to. She shares insights on the profound shifts that can happen when she works with people. I hope you enjoy this next episode of #EpicLifestyles with Sita Then. On Guides Gone Wild, we talk to lots of women who do extremely brave things - but I have to say, being vulnerable and open about a life-changing diagnosis and treatment (and the mental *ss-kicking you are still going through as a result), is the bravest kind of bravery in my book.Anyssa Lucena first graced the Guides Gone Wild airwaves in April 2022, when she was in the early days of building her business, Genuine Climbing, through which she provides guiding, instruction, coaching and community around her passion for rock climbing.Literally a month after we first spoke, Anyssa's life and business got turned completely upside down when she found a lump in one of her breasts. So a few trigger warnings for today: very salty language; cancer; survivor guilt; trauma. If those kinds of things cut a little too close right now, skip this and come back next time. But whether you're in for this week's audio ride or not, please do check out Climb for a Cause, an event that Anyssa is hosting Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the GOAT Climbing Gym in Hackensack, NJ from 7-9pm. If you're able to attend in person, you'll have a fantastic time learning and climbing and learning some more, and will be welcomed with open arms by the amazing community that Anyssa has around her. If you can't be there in person, I hope you'll consider donating to the same causes that Anyssa will be supporting with her proceeds from the event: For the Breast of Us, the first online community dedicated to women of color affected by breast cancer; and The Ellie Fund, which provides essential support services like transportation to appointments, housekeeping, grocery assistance, childcare reimbursement, that kind of thing for breast cancer patients, to ease the stresses of everyday life, so that they can focus on recovery, healing, and spending time with family. And a final reminder that early detection can make a HUGE difference - get the mammogram, check yourself out once in a while, and if anything seems to be changing or is concerning you - ANYTHING! - waste no time, make sure to talk to your doctor. All the links, all together:Climb for a Cause (Thursday, October 26th; 7:00-9:00pm)GOAT Climbing Gym (Hackensack, NJ)For the Breast of UsThe Ellie FundThe Big Cs: Chicks, Climbing and Cancer (FB Group)Anyssa's first episode on Guides Gone Wild (April 2022)

“Big changes don't have to be hard, but they do have to start with a choice. This is where real change begins; this is where you start taking control of your life and how you choose to live it; this is where it all starts.” – Nathalie Thompson Guest Introduction: I'm your host Cindy MacMillan, Integrative Life Coach and self-care advocate. Hello friend, Welcome to another episode of Exploring the Seasons of Life podcast. If you're a woman who loves to chase big dreams and is ready to discover the power of essential oils to lead a healthier and happier life and improve your emotional well-being; you are in the right place. I interview coaches, spiritual explorers and thought leaders from all walks of life about beginnings, endings, and the messy bits in-between. Self-love, well-being, and mindset are at the heart of our conversations because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well. In this season of the podcast, I'm inviting you to lean into well-being. Well-being takes into account the entire person, body, mind and spirit. It's feeling good and functioning well; it's experiencing positive emotions such as contentment and gratitude; it's developing your potential, having a sense of purpose, and experiencing close relationships. American writer, Cheryl Strayed said, “You will learn a lot about yourself if you stretch in the direction of goodness, of bigness, of kindness, of forgiveness, of emotional bravery.” I am encouraging you to explore what it means to be emotionally brave and I am deeply honored to walk this path with you. I think you are going to love this episode. My guest is Anyssa Lucena and I am so excited for her to share her story with you. Anyssa is the owner of Genuine Climbing and the founder of the Confident Climbers Club with over 12 years' experience on the rock. She's a climbing coach for women, AMGA Certified SPI, Apprentice Rock Guide and Mom of 3 kids. Anyssa has discovered the secret sauce for helping women gain confidence by teaching them how to overcome self-limiting beliefs and get stronger so they can climb to their greatest potential. She is a firm believer that climbing and nature is the perfect way to learn about yourself, heal your soul, and develop ways to grow inside. Here's a glimpse of our conversation: 4:37 I think you know, my life personally, my business I find is kind of like one in the same just because you know, it's hard to kind of separate the two and especially with climbing I find like all the lessons that you learn in climbing just naturally are lessons that you learn in life and vice versa. 6:36 It's very easy for me to want to compare myself to how strong I was, you know, wishing I was a younger person or a younger woman doing things and, and yeah, you just have to stop and be like, well, what are the great things about being where I am at this age, like the wisdom that I acquired, the self confidence that I've acquired over the years. 11:14 I think it's just the fear of maybe the fear of failure, the fear of judgment, the fear of trying something and it not working, you know, we get so afraid of the potential, like, you're sitting at your home, you're like, well, what if I can't do it? Or what if I get disappointed? Or what if somebody laughs at me? 12:28 Your story is a woman who later on in life went outside and love the attachment to nature and was curious and wanted to try something, like it doesn't have to, you know, there's, there's a million stories and that's like rock climbing, that's whatever hiking that's going out for a new job later in life. It's whatever it is, it could just be about where your curiosity takes you. 14:23 it's really just kind of making the commitment to yourself to try it and being able to - I've used this word a million times already in this podcast, but the idea of being curious, right, so it doesn't have to be like, I'm going to try this and that's a definition of failure or success. It doesn't even have to be like that. It could just be like; I'm just going to see what it's about. 17:49 I call it like your Personal Summit, whatever your Personal Summit is. 24:10 So in my case, I had kids, I got divorced. I've had the heartbreaks, I've had some health conditions, like you've kind of like seen enough stuff and, and gone through enough challenges that you're like, I'm still here. 32:38 Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. And I've just finished radiation a week ago. And, I'm just again, just amazed at how resilient we really are. Like, even when things happen out of the blue that you don't expect and it feels really horrible in the moment; you can get through it. We're just incredibly resilient people. This conversation is with New York based climber Anyssa Lucena (@genuineclimbing). Anyssa re-found climbing later in life and incorporated it into her already busy life - a single mum of three kids. Not only did she find space for it, it saved her in a difficult period in her life. She felt such a passion for climbing, and it had such a deep personal affect on her, that she underwent a complete career change and created a business around climbing. Anyssa is a guide in the Gunks but she does more than just the standard teaching people to go climbing. She works, predominately with women, by using climbing to challenge self limiting beliefs, find bravery and develop resilience. It was a pleasure to talk to her and to hear both her story and her experiences coaching. Anyssa's Website Anyssa's Instagram

My guest today, Anyssa Lucena of Genuine Climbing, is a FIRE BALL!Anyssa's story starts out as a familiar one - high achiever spends decades checking off all the boxes of what she's been taught is a ‘good life', just to wake up one day wondering who she's become and how the heck she got there. But unlike a lot of folks who then spend decades more using life as an excuse not to have one, Anyssa started taking small actions, and tried to flame up a little flicker of interest she'd had in climbing, way back when.I am so thrilled to introduce Anyssa to you today, because it doesn't matter whether you're interested in climbing or not, you'll definitely get fired up just listening to her. Whether you've been stalled by mom guilt, mindset, or needing to meet an adventure partner, Anyssa's story will tweak your narrative and give you some new ideas for small but meaningful actions you can take today.I freaking love Anyssa, and I'm craving more of her energy and encouragement already - so even though I've probably climbed all of five times in my entire life, I'll definitely be joining her Confident Climber's Challenge. I am always in need of a kick in the pants to motivate me, I'm woefully in need of some mindset work, and -- bonus --maybe I'll even get inspired enough to join one of the ladies' nights at my local climbing gym, and really build some skills. It's not too late for you to join me for the Confident Climber's Challenge -- $21 for 21 days, what have you got to lose?!?AND -- if you're local enough to the Gunks, you can sign up for guiding and coaching with Anyssa through the Genuine Climbing website. But if you aren't driveable to upstate New York, I'd still recommend you take a look, she's got tons of online options for learning and coaching, and free resources for budding and experienced climbers alike. And while you're online, come visit me here, here or here and drop me a line, let me know what's been inspiring you lately!A few more links from our convo:Confident Climbers Club 21 Day Confident Climbers Challenge starts May 16th!The Gunks - AAC CampgroundEco-ChallengeOutward BoundMeetupAMGAKyle Cease - KylegoSpecial thanks, as always, to our founding sponsor Evans Notch Lodge!

Anyssa Lucena is a rock climbing and hiking guide in New York. She is the owner and founder of Genuine Climbing and the Confident Climbers Club.In today's episode of The Think Courageously Podcast, Anyssa and I explore the courage it took her to build the life of her dreams. Like many of us, Anyssa was on the trajectory for traditional success. She had the corporate gig, the nice home, the husband and three kids. But there was something missing. And she was open to finding out what it was. Anyssa had the strong belief that there was something more for her and that's when she reignited her love affair with the great outdoors. Anyssa's pivot was gradual. It was an unhappiness that was festering. In trusting the universe, she found her way back to her true self through nature. Anyssa has always loved the outdoors and fell instantly in love with climbing in 1995 during a kayaking trip in Maine that included a day of rock climbing. She tapped back into this passion while redefining her pivot. She grew physically stronger and more curious about what it was about climbing that reignited her purpose. As the owner of Genuine Climbing, Anyssa now introduces the lessons of success, pivots and courage to other women through the outdoors and rock-climbing. Anyssa has climbed in New York, New Hampshire, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Canadian Rockies, Kentucky, California, and Chamonix. She is also allured by the challenge of the alpine world and has summited peaks including the Eiger and the Matterhorn. She is a firm believer that nature is the perfect way to learn. To find more on Anyssa:www.genuineclimbing.comwww.instagram.com/genuineclimbingwww.facebook.com/GenuineClimbing

Today's guest is the very inspiring Anyssa Lucena. She helps women climbers gain confidence by teaching them how to overcome self-limiting beliefs, get stronger and live an empowered life through climbing. As a former rock climber, when I heard about Anyssa and her work, my curiosity led me to her website where I learned more about her background, and her story was so inspiring that I wanted to invite her on the show. Due to her schedule, we recorded our conversation last week, and I play that for you today. As you'll hear, after having 3 kids, Anyssa suddenly realized she was deeply unhappy with her life. Something was missing. Her youngest was 9 months old when she asked her husband for a divorce. She was 38, suddenly a divorced - single mom of 3 kids, ages 5, 3, and 9 months and had no idea whatsoever what her future would look like. She had left her wall street job when she had kids, and although she was well educated and experienced, she couldn't imagine returning to a corporate environment. She had no idea what her future would look like, but she had faith that somehow, things would work out. Spoiler alert, things have turned out well for Anyssa, but getting there wasn't always easy and rock climbing helped her find her way. It's surprising how metaphorical rock climbing is for life in general. Her story really resonated with me and I hope you enjoy it too. Some of my favorite parts of our conversation today are about exploring fears, self compassion, mom guilt, "divorce arms," internal validation, shifts in mindset and celebrating failure. We started this week off with an Exclusive Veterans Day Special….Not sure if most of you had the chance to see or listen to it. But we had 91-year-old, WW2 Veteran & Former Disney Cast Member George Lawson joined us in the studio and tell us his story. We learned about his Life In Military Training, WW2, His days working on the Matterhorn, Meeting Walt Disney Himself and his years working as a Custodian at the Disneyland resort until is unfair dismissal just a couple short months ago. If you haven't seen or heard it yet, I highly encourage you all to do so. His story is not only AMAZING but heartbreaking. However, he handles it with Grace and continues to choose Happiness. We started a HashTag this week #BRINGBACKGEORGELAWSON, not for us but for HIM. We feel he deserves for his story to be told. He told us that he's most hurt that he wasn't given a chance to defend himself and more so, the fact that he wasn't able to say goodbye to everyone he Loved seeing in the parks. We encourage you all to check out our social media and the initiative we have taken to get George's Story out there. And we highly encourage you all to join in! As you all know, the new 6,500-space parking structure is currently under construction near the Mickey & Friends structure at the Disneyland Resort. This week we found out that along with the new Parking structure, there will be a new pedestrian bridge over Magic Way. This new bridge will connect visitors from the parking structure—over Magic Way— to the rest of the resort, allowing guests the option to stroll through the Downtown Disney District to the theme parks' Main Entrance. In addition, the new bridge eliminates the foot traffic crossing the street at Disneyland Drive and Magic Way, providing not only convenience but also greater pedestrian safety and better traffic circulation. Set to be completed next year, these parking and transportation enhancements—along with other existing parking options throughout the resort area—are designed to dramatically improve parking and traffic flow. The new parking structure is expected to significantly speed up guest arrival by providing a 60 percent increase in the number of access lanes and by adding parking capacity on the west side of the resort. In addition, the tram boarding area will be reconfigured to enhance the transportation experience for guests parking at both the new structure and Mickey & Friends. Every day it seems like we hear about a new diet is ready to make weight loss faster and easier than ever before. For our 3rd installment of "Misconceptions in Pharmacy" - we interview Dr. Anyssa Garza - with RxWiki about these (sometimes) dangerous Fad Diets. Most fad diets go something like this: Take a few foods, give them 'magic' power, and set a plan to convince people that eating this way and only this way will promote weight loss. The following diets might spur short-term weight loss, but many are difficult to follow, have arbitrary rules, and a few could put your health in danger. Anyssa Garza received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She was later recognized for her contributions to research in the area of alcohol dependence. She went on to act as Director of Pharmacy for a Central Texas Department of Aging and Disability facility where she provided care for underserved patients for several years. Dr. Garza is currently working as the Director of Life Sciences Library at RxWiki where she continues to build her practice on the fundamental belief that providing patients with medication information and medical knowledge contributes significantly to the quality of care they receive and improves quality of life and health outcomes through medication adherence. Dr. Garza's work focuses on educating patients and providing them with the resources needed to navigate the overwhelming and complex health system and healthcare issues. http://www.dailyrx.com/people/anyssa-garza-pharmd http://www.PatientsPodcast.com See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Thank you RxWiki - sharing the truth about Ebola: With the World Health Organization (WHO) recently naming the Ebolaoutbreak in West Africa an international public health emergency, speculation about the virus has run wild on the Internet and in other forums. Ebola is a virus that causes Ebola virus disease, which can have a fatality rate as high as 90 percent, reports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The virus's origins are unknown, but scientists have speculated that outbreaks usually begin with infected animals like monkeys. Despite numerous official statements from WHO, the CDC and other health organizations, there are many misconceptions about Ebola. The following are some of those misconceptions. Ebola Is Airborne Despite what doomsday forecasters may say, you can't get Ebola from the air — or water or food, for that matter. The only way to contract Ebola is by coming in contact with infected bodily fluids, the CDC reports. Bodily fluids that can spread the Ebola virus include blood, saliva and urine. If an object like a needle or other medical instrument has been exposed to an Ebola patient's bodily fluids, that object can also spread the virus. Even physical contact won't spread Ebola as long as the uninfected person doesn't come into contact with the infected person's bodily fluids. Recommended Ebola prevention methods are similar to those of many other viruses — wash your hands regularly and don't touch an infected person. Infected People Spray Blood The former name of Ebola virus disease was Ebola hemorrhagic fever. Hemorrhaging (veins or arteries rupturing and bleeding) evokes a nightmarish image of blood spraying from every orifice — which may be why TV and movies portray Ebola like this so often. While Ebola is certainly deadly, external bleeding only happens in some Ebola cases, according to WHO. And blood doesn't spray from infected patients' bodies. Visible Ebola symptoms include a sudden, acute fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Medical testing can reveal less visible symptoms like kidney and liver damage and a lowered white blood cell count. Bringing Infected Americans Back for Treatment Will Cause an Outbreak When a man with high fever who had recently visited West Africa stepped through the doors of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, fears of an Ebola outbreak in the US ran high. Mount Sinai has since announced that the man did not have Ebola, but the two American health care workers in Africa who recently returned to the US for treatment did — and their return sparked some debate about the safety of purposefully bringing the virus into the country. As of publication time, though, the American patients were alive. Ebola may not be as fatal as it once was, said Donald Allegra, MD, chair of Infection Control and Pharmacy/Therapeutics at Newton Medical Center in Newton, NJ. "It was previously thought that this disease was almost universally fatal but now with our two Americans in Atlanta doing better and only about 55 percent mortality overall, significant numbers of patients are surviving and it would be interesting to know what the factors are that are helping many patients to survive," Dr. Allegra told dailyRx News. While an outbreak could technically happen anywhere, it's less likely in the US than in developing nations like Sierra Leone and Liberia, said Dr. Daniel Bausch in an interview with Voice of America. Many of the hospitals in the heart of the Ebola outbreak area — including West African countries Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria — are stretched too thin when it comes to medical supplies, medicines and health care workers, making containment of the virus more difficult. In contrast, the man at Mount Sinai Hospital was immediately put into quarantine and under constant medical care until he was cleared. Ebola Is Curable Currently, there is no vaccination or cure for Ebola. Despite this fact, rumors and myths about Ebola cures abound. WHO lists a few practices that have been falsely labeled as cures for Ebola. These include eating raw onions, drinking condensed milk and taking antibiotics, which fight bacteria, not viruses like Ebola. One treatment, however, is showing some promise, but its effectiveness has not been confirmed. The medicine is known as ZMapp, and it is supposed to block Ebola from spreading in the body. Before the two American Ebola patients opted for the experimental treatment, the only tests researchers had conducted with it were on animals. Ebola Has Spread to the US Although CDC officials believe Ebola spreading to the US is likely in the future, they also say it will not be a large outbreak. CDC Director Tom Frieden cited airline travel as the culprit in the spread of the virus across continents. "We are all connected and inevitably there will be travelers, American citizens and others who go from [West Africa] and are here with symptoms," he told Business Insider. "But we are confident that there will not be a large Ebola outbreak in the US." However, the only American to have died from Ebola in the current outbreak so far was in West Africa at the time of his infection. Anyssa Garza,Pharm.D.
