Pharmacists at the University of Kansas Medical Center in KCK have petitioned for a union election. It's next week. They wonder why there's so little room for advancement in their jobs and why the rules leave them without justice on the job. Our feature is Safety First with Mary Erio.

   President Trump hosted a small business event at the White House Monday and one of the businesses featured was Slap's BBQ in KCK.  Joe Pearce, the owner, was there with staff.  The president was a little bit interested in the various sauces but mostly just asked the Slap's boys if Patrick Mahomes was going to be ok and start the season in week one.  This is so good.    A national hotel association says World Cup bookings are a disaster nationwide and KC is the worst of the worst.  Not only are 650k people not coming to KC... regular summer visitors are AVOIDING KC because of the World Cup.  Dang, if only a local podcaster could have warned officials this would happen.    A pair of drivers at Central Bank in Sugar Creek got quite a scare when the roof collapsed above them.    The Royals beat the Guardians with another great looking game, 6-2,  and have now won 8 out of 10.    The Chiefs sign 3 players out of 108 that tried out at Rookie Mini Camp... all at positions of need.  The Dallas Cowboys take an off season wedding photo for the ages and Stephen A Smith welcomes back an old partner this week at ESPN.

   We use the word "history" way too much in sports media.  But Monday night was historic at Allen Field House over the most dramatic regular season three hours in years.  We got a sad little whiny superstar sitting out sick, a staffer on press row texting that Darryn Peterson said, "Eff it" to playing and a wildly enthusiastic Bill Self after knocking off the number one team in the country.  Oh, this made up for all the lack of fun at Super Bowl 60.   Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark was at the game and says big changes are coming to the Big 12 tourney.  Are they about to pay players for performance?    Bad Bunny's halftime show would NEVER have been allowed in English, that's for sure.  So why doesn't the FCC  go after the NFL/NBC hard for all the violations in Spanish.  It could be happening.    175,000 KC residents are now eligible to get their Amazon packages delivered by drones from KCK.  Americans gobbled up a record amount of been in 2025.  Kid Rock hits #1 on the charts while a lesser known artist records an anti-Sprinsteen song for the ages.   The Royals do the cheapest thing ever and a small plane lands on traffic filled road in Georgia and the pilot must have been very hungry.

KCK focuses on capital investment in commercial and growth-stage medical device companies. Karen has been with KCK since January 2018, when she joined as Executive-in-Residence. Karen serves as Board Director in many KCK portfolio companies as well as Independently. Prior to KCK, Karen was President and CEO of Nuelle, a women's consumer health company incubated at ExploraMed, a Silicon Valley medical device incubator. Nuelle was acquired in 2017. Karen has spent over 20 years in medical devices and diagnostics developing and marketing novel and market leading products focused on improving quality of life. She has held a series of key operating roles in consumer diagnostic companies, ChemTrak and Inverness Medical and eventually management positions at LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company, after the acquisition of Inverness Medical. In early 2007, Karen joined Acclarent as Worldwide Vice President of Marketing and led Acclarent's marketing efforts through rapid growth and ultimately through the acquisition by Johnson & Johnson. Karen held remained at Johnson & Johnson until joining the ExploraMed incubator in 2012. Acclarent was also an early spinout from ExploraMed. Karen began her career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker after receiving her undergraduate and graduate degrees from San Diego State University.

   The Royals got a great win in Boston on Wednesday night, incredibly, it's their 10th straight win in the final game of a series.  The whole thing was caught on film as a popular CBS television crime drama was filming at Fenway for an episode this fall.    The NFL coughing up the NFL Network for 10% equity in ESPN is one of the great deals of all time.  The NFL Network lost a lot of money over the years and now they have their best products on a bigger platform to make even more money.  It's controversial to say the least.   Patrick Mahomes says he has to be better this year for the Chiefs to succeed and I agree.  The real question is how serious he is about it.  Is this training camp lip service or does Mahomes really think he has to get better?    Putin has indicated he's ready to end the war in Ukraine as Trump is about to level incredible financial hardship on Russia.  There's reportedly a summit for next week.    Meanwhile, in DC, Trump is calling in the National Guard to make the capitol safe again.    An illegal alien in KCK reached fame as part of a Netflix series in 2019 and now he says he can't take it here anymore and is self deporting.  You have to hear these details and why this is so perfect.    The New Zealand Air Force saves three Americans in Antarctica and Trump is using his paycheck to remodel the White House historical association gift shop.

   If you were somebody's boss and they went on tv and trashed your decisions, what would you do?  Well, whatever you would do is not going to happen at MSNBC where Rachel Maddow just unloaded on the network for cutting costs and employees.    Elon Musk says a small number of government employees responded to their email request to share what they did last week.  Now he says, at the President's discretion, everyone gets a second chance to send anything in to their supervisor or they will be fired.    A married couple in KCK got arrested at the same time Monday in different locations.  We'll tell you what they did in January to deserve it.    Polls show Americans are no longer divided.  I will give you 12 Trump initiatives currently taking place that as many as 83% of us are all in favor of.    Hunter Dickinson is the player KU fans love to hate... but he's still their best player by far.  And he proved in Monday night in a win over Colorado.   Mizzou has a chance to win its last four starting tonight.  Cole Ragans is already throwing 98 mph and we remember our walkout at Kauffman Stadium in 1999 after the passing of the announcer that bashed us KC fans that night

   It may not make the New England Journal of Medicine but we have found a cure for the college basketball doldrums... the Missouri Tigers.  Let's call them the Fast and Furious as they are must watch material popping #4 Alabama scoring 110 points.  Mizzou and Auburn are the most fun teams in America to watch.  I don't care how it happened I'm just glad it did.    According to my sources, Chiefs President Mark Donovan is all in on a shiny new stadium at the Legends in KCK where KC can host a Super Bowl.  His one last hurdle is to convince owner Clark Hunt its the best thing to do.  We'll share the one hurdle Donovan has to clear to get it done.    Team USA Hockey is ready to rock Thursday night against Canada... this time on American ice in Boston.  I've got one request from the fans.    Trump says he wants to take over Washington DC and federalize it.  Trump says it's embarrassing for visiting world leaders to see what its become.    The new commerce secretary is a shot of adrenaline and is fired up for how quickly he believes Trump's policies will turn around the economy and bring down interest rates.    Tony Botello of www.tonyskansascity.com pens a thoughtful piece about the final years of Andrew Lester's life.  Lester was the scared old man that shot the kid on his porch a couple years ago, pleaded guilty to assault just days ago and then died on Wednesday.  So sad.    A former NFL kicker misses wide left in front of a fully right city council in our new favorite community in LA and what is "fowling?"   I wanna play.

   After 3 years of chaos between the Royals, Jackson County and KCMO, the state of Kansas is about to vote on new language in their STAR Bond laws that would finance 100% of a new stadium for the Chiefs and/or the Royals.  100 percent.  The catch?  Well... Kansas wants the project to cost at least $1 billion each  and have at least 30,000 seats.  This is swift and effective and there will be a deadline for the teams to take the money and run from Missouri.    So what a great time to have Kansas Speedway president Pat Warren on the podcast to talk about this week's Advent Health 400 in KCK and the possibility of new neighbors moving in.  One important note, the interview with Mr. Warren was recorded prior to the Kansas legislature announcing Monday night it's prepared to make this offer to these teams.  Kansas Speedway was partially financed by STAR bonds nearly 25 years ago.

   This week, a store manager at O'Reilly auto parts in KCK, without a weapon, allegedly tried to stop two thieves that left one of them dead.  The details here are not all that well known just yet but the black DA that just charged the white store manager with 2nd degree murder charges says, "race did not play a part in the investigation."  Huh?    Senator Rand Paul sums up the war in Ukraine and why we should stop supporting it in 60 seconds.   That viral singer, Oliver Anthony, crooning Rich Men North of Richmond did what he said he wasn't going to do.  He signed a huge record deal with a giant corporation that reps Lizzo and Jonas Brothers.      KU coach Lance Leipold is being criticized by media in Utah that cover this week's opponent, BYU, just for telling the truth.   We'll preview our CFB games this weekend and then Lee Sterling of www.paramountsports.com has this weeks point spread picks.

   The Chicago Bears are a hot mess.  A really hot mess.  Their quarterback is 5-22 in 27 starts and is blaming the coaches.  The defensive coordinator just quit and they have a road game at KC.  This is going to be fun.    The Chiefs injury list includes a whole bunch of starters but it's a good week to have this issue.    The Royals quest for a new stadium hits another roadblock and they will no longer announce their site this month, pushing it off for somewhere down the road.    A school in KCK has to play high school football games in daylight after gunfire broke out last week.    Merrick Garland's appearance in front of the House Judiciary committee was a slap in the face to the citizens of this great land.  Senator Ted Cruz has a Dem prediction you may have heard someplace before.   Howard Stern is excited about the latest jab and a school district in Pennsylvania is opening Kindergarten this fall for a record number of twins.

   We rarely spend  time on wild fires or drought or tornados on this podcast but I'm not sure I've ever seen anything as bad as what has just happened in Maui.  The adorable little town near the tourist zone is just flat gone.  It doesn't sound right to say, but the images look like Pearl Harbor.  36 are already confirmed dead in one of the worst things ever.    New polls about inflation show that the overwhelming majority of Americans blame Joe Biden.    Conservatives are targeting NASCAR to "Bud Light Them" after a controversial firing of a driver.    A listener sent me the link to all our weather information for July in KC and what do you know... we were way colder and wetter than normal.    ESPN and Penn Gaming have struck a $2 Billion deal that will bring ESPN Bet to your app store in Kansas and an ESPN Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino in KCK.  And 23 year old Bobby Witt Jr already has his jersey hanging in Cooperstown.
