This episode contains: These three fools are back at it this week. Steven's had a rough go with little sleep, and he really enjoys the new videogame Manor Lords (are those two things related?). Ben's super excited to play the new Venice course in Walkabout Minigolf. All we can say is “Good Job, Mighty Coconut!” Devon's had a rough go of it too, what with dealing with extended family staying at his house. There's also been car troubles. TEST THE BATTERY! FIX THE GARAGE DOOR! GET IN THE CHOPPA! Steven had a different experience this week: he attended the DisneyLand Star Wars night “Season of the Force.” It was AWESOME: so many Star Wars nerds everywhere, and since it was after hours, there was a much smaller park population. Goes to show you gotta give the mouse his due to be around Steven's people: Star Wars people meets Disney people in a capitalist Venn diagram of scum and villainy. He also got to try out new food. The events were a little boring. I mean, the wrong era is represented in Galaxy's Edge: Steven wishes it was Vader and the 501st instead of the “March of the First Order.” And then they changed Space Mountain to… HYPERSPACE MOUNTAIN??!?! Star Tours premiered some new characters and scenarios from Mandalorian and Ahsoka. And… well, Ben's ready for May the Fourth with his Star Wars Day shirt: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1100663519/galaxy-far-away-sw-space-wars-inspired Shock to the Heart: How Pluto got its heart. The mystery of how Pluto got a giant heart-shaped feature on its surface has finally been solved by an international team of astrophysicists. The team is the first to successfully reproduce the unusual shape with numerical simulations, attributing it to a giant and slow oblique-angle impact. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2024/04/240415163720.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tombaugh_Regio Big Cheese: A vegan cheese beat dairy in a big competition. Then the plot curdled. A vegan cheese called Climax Blue was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Good Food Awards, shocking traditional cheesemakers. However, the cheese was later disqualified by the awards foundation, leading to a controversy over the definition of "cheese" and the role of plant-based alternatives. https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2024/04/27/vegan-cheese-good-food-awards-climax Book Club: Void by Veronica Roth (from The Far Reaches Collection). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4QLYVHG TLDR, here are the ratings: Steven: 4/4 stars. The mystery allowed him to turn off his brain and just enjoy it. The characters were just right. Ben: 3/4 stars. This could have been a decent pilot for a tv show on the Redundancy. Devon: baseball analogies? Something about a bunt? Does that mean 1/4 stars? Devon compared it to other murder mysteries (Apples Never Fall, the works of Liane Moriarty) and this falls short. Next week: 2043…(A Merman I Should Turn to Be) by Nisi Shawl, part of the Black Stars collection. Ben's excited because the Audible version is read by LeVar Burton. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098QPR7QG

Nighttime festivities are back in full swing and Disneyland feels completely magical again! Darrell and Colby visited Disneyland and California Adventure earlier this month and experienced The Main Street Electrical Parade, Fantasmic!, Disneyland Forever, and World of Color. Each of these shows are truly spectacular and reminded us of what was missing from our last few Disneyland visits. While we visited the parks, we also tried a few new experiences like Web Slingers, Frontierland Shootin' Exposition, Hyperspace Mountain, and the Blue Bayou restaurant. Despite the large crowds, we had a wonderful experience, and used Genie + to strategically plan out a great trip! This year, there are THREE games in the Eggstraviganza! Each board is $9.99 plus tax, and can be purchased at select merchandise locations around the resort. One game board is for Disneyland park, one is for Disney California Adventure, and finally one for Downtown Disney. Once guests have found all the eggs, the game boards can be returned for one of six collectable eggs. Redemption locations are at the Plaza Point on Main Street, Elias & Co. on Buena Vista Street, and Disney's Pin Traders in Downtown Disney. The eggstraviganza is available March 31st through April 17th. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/03/eggstravaganza-is-hippity-hoppity-fun-at-the-disneyland-resort/ The Disneyland Resort honored 100,000 years of work from Cast Members with two parties at Disney California Adventure last week. The party featured an open bar and an all-you-can-eat buffet. The cast members that were celebrated were those with over 10 years of service. This included 102 that worked for 40 years at Disneyland, 46 who worked 45 years, and 14 who worked 50 years! Half of the attractions and more than two-dozen Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters were on hand. It was the largest employee service celebration in Disneyland history. – https://www.ocregister.com/2022/03/28/disneyland-honors-100000-years-of-work-with-employee-service-celebration/ A sad bit of news to report this week as one of, if not the most famous cast members at the resort is retiring! Maynard, who Tage has been aware of since the late 90s, is stepping away from the Happiest Place on Earth on April 1st. This isn't an April fools joke though! We were lucky enough to meet him at the Enchanted Tiki Room during our visit in December. He was almost as big of a character as Mickey Mouse himself. Guests were always in for a treat when he was at a location. Disneyland just won't be the same without him, but he deserves some time to himself in retirement! – https://www.micechat.com/317538-disneyland-cast-member-maynard-smith-retires/ Calling all single riders! For the first time since the attraction opened, Web Slingers will offer a single rider line. The new single rider entrance is located between the stand-by entrance and the Lightning Lane entrance. The Disney Food Blog reported that they waited just 17 minutes in the single rider line when the stand-by line was 65 minutes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/03/24/single-rider-line-now-available-for-web-slingers-a-spider-man-adventure-in-disneyland/ With Fantasmic! retuning in the next couple of months and Pirates of the Caribbean down for an extended refurbishment, it is the perfect time to re-imagine the waterfront of New Orleans Square. Walls went up almost two weeks ago and work is underway to remove some of the elevated sections of the walkway to provide for more queuing options for Pirates, and better crowd flow for Fantasmic! From the view over the construction walls, the planters have gone away, but the trees have remained. – https://www.micechat.com/317860-dateline-disneyland-disney-dining-drama-downtown-disney-demolition/ One place that the trees have not been spared is in the Pirates Queue where the two older trees have been trimmed back for removal soon. The trees are planned to be replaced in this location to keep the much needed shade while waiting in line for Pirates. – https://www.micechat.com/317860-dateline-disneyland-disney-dining-drama-downtown-disney-demolition/ Another experience from a Galaxy Far, Far Away is coming to Tomorrowland at the end of April. Starting on April 29th, Hyperspace Mountain will launch guests into the Star Wars universe. This experience will not be available for long, so be sure to check it out if you are visiting around the end of April into May. For those who have not experienced this version of Space Mountain, it is basically a Star Wars overlay for the popular indoor coaster. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/03/28/hyperspace-mountain-is-coming-back-to-disneyland-for-a-limited-time/ Pins fans get excited! Some new limited edition pins, themed to Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Easter, and St. Patrick's Day have arrived around the resort. The limited edition Easter pin features Sleeping Beauty Castle and an Easter basket full of eggs with Disneyland at the bottom for $19.99. The Pirates pin has a skeleton pirate sitting on some treasure with 55th Anniversary on the top and Pirates of the Caribbean at the bottom for $17.99. Kermit the Frog is sitting in a pot of gold for the St. Patrick's Day pin for $17.99. Finally, the Star Wars pins feature Lieutenant Bek or Vi Moradi with an orange Resistance logo and the word Resist on the top for $19.99. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/03/limited-edition-easter-and-star-wars-pins-limited-release-pirates-of-the-caribbean-and-st-patricks-day-pins-arrive-at-disneyland-resort/ This next story is something that we saw ourselves while visiting the resort last week. The new Disney Vacation Club or DVC tower has started vertical construction! when completed, the new tower will stand 12 stories high and add 350 time share villas to the resort. A Magic Key Holder themed reusable straw was given out to Keyholders on March 21st, 23rd, and 24th. The straw came in a blue carrying case, with a carabiner clip on one end, and unscrews to reveal the straw. As the Galaxy's Edge celebration continues, we take a ride on the pre-Batuu Space Mountain overlay known as Hyperspace Mountain. Recorded on May 13, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. As we celebrate the opening of Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, let’s take a ride on a pre-Batuu attraction, the Space Mountain overlay known as Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. Hyperspace Mountain is described on the Disneyland website by saying: Hurtle through hyperspace while dodging furious dogfights during this high-speed Star Wars adventure! Riders must be 40” or taller to ride this attraction that the thrill level describes as being a thrill ride with small drops that is Dark Loud and Scary. Fast Passes are available for this attraction and a single rider line is available. Before we fire up the hyper drive, here are 5 fast facts about Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. 1. Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain first blasted into Disneyland on November 14, 2015 as part of the Season of the Force event celebrating the release of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens film. 2. According to Walt Disney Imagineering’s Executive Creative Director Brent Strong, it only takes a single hour to change Space Mountain from the classic version to Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. He is quoted as saying, “The longest part from switching from classic Space Mountain to Hyperspace Mountain is actually putting up the marquee in front of the attraction.” 3. The development of Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain started with the music of Star Wars composer John Williams. Imagineers would edit together different pieces of the score and then ride the attraction with headphones and personal audio devices to see how the music timed out with the ride. 4. The new soundtrack for Hyperspace Mountain was recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at famed Abby Road Studios. 5. According to the storylines, the space battle that takes place during the ride is actually the one that caused all the wrecked Star Destroyers on the planet of Jakku that the character of Rey is searching through in the beginning of The Force Awakens. Now it’s time to ride Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. After the ride I’ll talk about my thoughts on this attraction and, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Star Wars Hyper Space Mountain at Disneyland! The Force is wide awake on this week's episode of Mousetalgia as we celebrate everything Star Wars, from past to present. First, we take a look at Disneyland's "Season of the Force," and discuss Hyperspace Mountain, the Star Wars Launch Bay, Star Tours' new trip to Jakku, and various food offerings - and of course, the new merchandise. Then, we welcome Emmy-Award winning writer Jymn Magon to the show to talk about his role in bringing Lucasfilm and Disney together all the way back in 1978 for the creation of the first Star Wars Little Long-Playing Record. Magon talks about the development of the project, working with George Lucas (and pulling rank on Steven Spielberg) - and much more. And finally, Jeff and Kristen offer our first SPOILER-FREE response to "The Force Awakens," and we discuss the characters, the music, the feels, the nature of the Force, and how the new film works in comparison with its predecessors. Plus - our earliest Star Wars memories, that infamous Holiday special - and more.

Amy and Bryan had a big weekend. First, they met up at Disneyland and discussed all of the offerings the park has for the new "Seasons of the Force." They went to the Star Wars Launch Bay, met Chewbacca, watched a short Star Wars movie in the Captain EO theatre, and totally owned Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours... Then, they went to the main event: THE press conference for The Force Awakens. You'll hear pretty much every big name involved in the movie talking about it in their own words: JJ Abrams, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong'o and Lawrence Kasdan take the first press conference. The second press conference was headed up by Harrison Ford and Kathleen Kennedy, and they were joined by newcomers John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, and Oscar Isaac. The DIS Unplugged: Disneyland Edition - A Roundtable Discussion About All Things Disneyland
11/17/15 - The team shares their thoughts about Season of the Force, the new Star Wars themed seasonal event at Disneyland Park.
Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
So, after wrapping up this week's episode of Inside The Mouse Castle, I thought I'd wait until I got to Anaheim to write up my show notes. You know, just take it easy, soak in all the Disneyland ambiance, get ready for runDisney's Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon this weekend and OH MY GOD, DID YOU SEE THE PICTURES FROM SEASON OF THE FORCE?!?!?! http://www.themousecastle.com/2015/11/inside-the-mouse-castle-season-of-the-force-disneyland-avengers-half-marathon.html The interactive showcase of all things Star Wars includes the Launch Bay, which takes up an entire floor of the former Innoventions building. Guests will find a treasure trove of film prop replicas, costumes, ship models, droids, artwork and "other notable items." There will also be character meet-and-greets representing both the Dark Side and the Light Side of the Force. Next door, Space Mountain is getting a Star Wars overlay, transforming it into Hyperspace Mountain where you'll find yourself thrust into the midst of an X-Wing Starfighter battle. In Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, inside the Tomorrowland Theater, you can catch an assemblage of clips from Star Wars movies past and present. Yes, that means you'll get a glimpse of The Force Awakens. Meanwhile, Star Tours is getting a new destination from The Force Awakens. Finally, the Tomorrowland Terrace and the Pizza Port will feature some new Star Wars-inspired menu items, and beginning December 8, the Jedi Training Academy will get an update, Trials of the Temple, a "reimagined battle experience (that) takes younglings to the secret site of an ancient Jedi temple, where they discover if they have the makings of a true Jedi." Most everything in Season of the Force is set to open on Monday, November 16, but we're kind of hoping for a soft opening this weekend. Please, Disneyland? Pretty please? Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, Tim and Anthony did a show this week. It's all about Star Wars (of course), Anthony's recent visit to Disneyland, #ForceForDaniel, the new trailers for Finding Dory and Alice Through the Looking Glass, Robin Williams, the Muppets and the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend. Whatever. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://insidethemousecastle.libsyn.com/rss
Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
The Season of the Force is coming to Disneyland November 16th and we have all the details in this week's episode of Inside The Mouse Castle. As excitement builds for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December and the January groundbreaking of Star Wars Land, the Star Wars Launch Bay will open in the old Innoventions building in Tomorrowland. There will be plenty to preview of the upcoming Star Wars films and eventually, we assume, the park expansion. Also in the Launch Bay will be the obligatory Star Wars character meet-and-greets. Next door, a new Space Mountain overlay, Hyperspace Mountain, will rocket guests through an X-wing Figher battle. Star Tours will get an upgrade as well, adding new show elements based on The Force Awakens. The Force is strong with today's show. Here's what else we have: The Star Wars Land expansion at Disneyland means extended ride closures during construction. Everything on the Rivers of America including the Mark Twain, Columbia and Tom Sawyer will be shut down for more than a year beginning January 11, 2016. Likewise Fantasmic! and the Disneyland Railroad. While much of the Internet is speculating on what the new train and river configurations will be when the dust settles and Star Wars emerges, Tim and Anthony offer their short-term take on what no train, no Big Thunder Trail and no Fantasmic! will do to crowd control. We don't think it will be pretty. Disneyland is extending its Diamond Celebration until September 2016, which means the resort will turn 61 while it's still turning 60. Websites that offer dining reservation services at Disney resorts (usually for a fee) are coming under fire by Disney. Disney Dining Buddy is the first site to suspend activity after receiving a "request" by the Mouse to stop. The Indiana Jones-referential Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar has opened at Walt Disney World's Disney Springs (no longer Downtown Disney). We want to go there. Garrett Hedlund (Sam Flynn in Tron: Legacy) says a Tron 3 film may not be dead on the grid after all. Maybe. Duffy the Disney Bear is bidding farewell to Epcot. This pleases us. Outside of Japan, he never was a thing. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.com
