Guest Brandon Joe William has a big intention. He desires everyone to see the truth of the US Constitution's 14th Amendment... that it was never legally ratified, that it is fraudulent, so it can go away! He describes the outcome as us living like the movie Tombstone, yet with a modern twist with peace officers doing just that... keeping the peace. In our show, he gets down to the nitty-gritty of this Amendment. Down to the truth of citizenship, the truth that you own nothing from your house to your car, how the "right to travel" is bogus and much more. It will make your head spin and may be your heart hurt. Then in the end, it is well worth a listen to, his experience with Scientology and the truth of cults. In this episode, Jean Pfaelzer (Prof. Emerita, University of Delaware) describes the untold history of slavery, slave revolts, and resistance in California, based on her award-winning book California, A Slave State. Interviewed by Karen Clopton, JD, Chair of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission and Harvard University Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow, Pfaelzer looks West to upend the notion of slavery in the United States as only a North-South struggle. Pfaelzer establishes that freedom from slavery is a struggle, not a status. Slavery endures even to the present day in the sex trade, field work, sweat shops, and marijuana industry. This is the history of how California's distinct multi-racial population rose from the struggles and ranks of the unfree. Full transcript available at https://bit.ly/S08E04Transcript.

The RSB Show 10-11-23 - Brandon Joe Williams, The Slave State, State National Theory
Jean Pfaelzer, PhD, a public historian, commentator and University of Delaware professor, describes how “progressive” California has, unbeknownst to many, hosted practices which have enslaved indigenous people, Alaska natives, plantation Blacks, Chinese and the incarcerated throughout its history.
**Explaining History Podcast Episode Description:**In the highly anticipated second installment of our conversations with the esteemed Professor Jean Phaelzer, author of the groundbreaking work, "California: A Slave State," we delve deeper into the interwoven tapestry of California's historical landscape. The Gold Rush, a period synonymous with opportunity and prosperity, bore witness to the dark side of fortune as it intersected with the repercussions of the Fugitive Slave Act. The Gold Rush not only lured countless individuals with the promise of golden riches, but it also inadvertently became a playing field for slave owners to exploit the Fugitive Slave Act, transforming California into a contentious battleground for slavery's final stand in the West. This episode elucidates the complex dynamics between runaway slaves seeking refuge, opportunistic slave catchers, and the mounting tensions in a territory grappling with its identity.Yet, the episode does not merely halt at this juncture of history. Prof. Phaelzer expertly bridges the past with the present as she exposes the insidious birth of the American carceral state. Born from the ashes of this era was the unofficial slavery of prison labor, a system that continued to tether marginalized communities to systemic oppression and economic exploitation. This clandestine practice has deeply influenced modern policies and perceptions surrounding incarceration, and its roots lie surprisingly close to the gold-laden hills of California.Join us in this captivating journey as we uncover the obscured truths of California's past and its indelible mark on the America we know today. You can purchase California: A Slave State here Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/explaininghistory. By looking west to California, Jean Pfaelzer shifts our understanding of slavery as a North-South struggle and focuses on how those who were enslaved in California fought, fled, and resisted human bondage. In unyielding research and vivid interviews, Pfaelzer exposes how California's appetite for slavery persists today in the trafficking in human beings who are lured by promises of jobs but who instead are imprisoned in sweatshops or remote marijuana fields, or are sold as nannies or sex workers. Pfaelzer relates the history of slavery in California across its entire spectrum, from indentured Native American ranch hands in the Spanish missions, children sent to Indian boarding schools, Black miners, kidnapped Chinese prostitutes, and convict laborers to the victims of modern human trafficking, and she argues that California owes its origins and sunny prosperity to slavery. Spanish invaders captured Indigenous people to build and farm the chain of Catholic missions. Russian otter hunters shipped Alaskan Natives down to the California coast—the first slaves to be transported to California. The Russians also launched the Pacific slave trade with China. Southern plantation slaves were marched across the plains to help their owners mine during the Gold Rush. San Quentin Prison was the incubator for California's carceral state. Kidnapped Chinese girls were sold to caged brothels in early San Francisco. And Indian boarding schools supplied farms and hotels with unfree child workers. Pfaelzer's provocative history of slavery in California could rewrite people's understanding of the settling of the West, and redefine the actual paths to eventual freedom for many Americans. More than a decade ago, historian Jean Pfaelzer was shown a photograph of a young Chinese woman, displayed for sale in a caged brothel in San Francisco in the 1870s. The image made Pfaelzer question her own assumptions about California's claim to have entered the union as a free state and about the force and effect of the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery at the end of the Civil War. Pfaelzer traveled the state for seven years excavating accounts of Black, Indigenous, Asian and immigrant enslavement, concluding that “the story of California is a history of 250 years of uninterrupted human bondage.” We'll talk to Pfaelzer about her new book “California, A Slate State” and how we might reckon with a history that's far darker than many Californians realize. In 1850, in exchange for allowing the potential of slavery in New Mexico and Utah, California was admitted to the Union as its 31st state. A free state. The land of beaches, beautiful scenery, bridges and Hollywood. But even to today, Dr. Pfaelzer argues California has not been fully free. While we may not imagine plantation slavery there the way we do in US southern states, Dr. Pfaelzer says there were still Black Americans forced to work in bondage. Slaves of other races and nationalities have also existed there. The indigenous, the Inuit, the Chinese, and even people from India. And indeed, she says, there are still people in California being trafficked to live as slaves. She explains how California's geography, weather and politics foster the conditions for human bondage. Dr. Pfaelzer argues there is a lesson in this book for everyone who wants America to become truly free.Information on Dr. Pfaelzer's book can be found at: https://yalebooks.yale.edu/book/9780300211641/california-a-slave-state/Support our show at https://patreon.com/axelbankhistory**A portion of every contribution is given to a charity for children's literacy** "Axelbank Reports History and Today" can be found on social media at https://twitter.com/axelbankhistory https://instagram.com/axelbankhistory2 Degrees Out WestStories from the Western USA from those fighting for its conservation and protection.Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

According to Professor Jean Pfaelzer, the very first colonizers who crossed the border of the Golden State were and still are powered by slavery—a piece of American history that many still try to bury. Though unyielding research and vivid interviews, Pfaelzer exposes how California gorged on slavery; its appetite for unfree bodies and unpaid labor persists today in the global traffic in human beings who end up sold into the sex trade or trapped in sweatshops and remote marijuana grows. Join us when public historian, commentator, and professor of American studies at the University of Delaware, Jean Pfaelzer shares how this once-shrouded history spans three centuries of diverse types of slavery and slave revolts on this installment of Leonard Lopate at Large.
Louisiana has embarrassed itself and the entire nation once again by refusing to pass HB 211. The slavery abolition bill. In 2022 Louisiana became the face of national shame by being the only state of 5 who did not pass a slavery abolition bill. In S4-E16 Special Extended Broadcast - The Testimony of Angels and Devils HB211 LA you heard their wicked reasoning for not wanting to give up the criminal act of involuntary servitude AKA Forced/Slave labor in 2023. This Sunday, Fathers day, on the eve of Juneteenth, we're joined by LA Representative Edmond Jordan. Author of HB 211 to get the rundown on how in the confounding confederate slave state this happened again. We'll have music, insightful conversation, uplifting, educational, and inspirational discussions, and as always we'll bring the voices of the abolitionist ancestors back to life for a new generation with our Bridging The Gap segment.
This week we're joined by formerly incarcerated and exonerated activist Marcus Kelley to discuss his abolition efforts in Nevada and Missouri. Assembly Joint Resolution 10 (AJR 10) has passed through all committees and is on the ballot. In 2024 Nevada citizens will get the opportunity to abolish slavery in that state for the first time with a simple vote. Taking this issue out of the hands of legislators and letting the people decide if THEY want slavery as a punishment for crime embedded in their constitution or not. As always we'll mix in music, poetry, powerful insightful commentary, and bring the voices of the abolitionist ancestors back to life for a new generation with our Bridging The Gap series.

We are part of a significant inflection point in human history. These are unprecedented times for change. There are four generational archetypes of people born in the same era shaped by the historical events unique to their generation. The four archetypes as defined by Strauss and Howe are: Prophets, Nomads, Heroes, and Artists. Millennials fall into the Hero archetype, while Gen Xers are Nomads, and Baby Boomers are Prophets. The generation born in or after 2005 are Artists. As each archetypal generation reaches the end of its 80-year lifespan, the cycle repeats - but this time something has gone awry. Terry Sacka, AAMS explains what is different about this turning.I saw a wave, a dark wave, come over our nation. And it's not just the election, of course, but this program is going to be all in the name RIGGED because when I, and we formed RIGGED, it was because of the financial system, but RIGGED is now becoming common in America. Howie opens with a rather chumpy Chump Line. Then, he presents the most recent episode of Bumbling Brandon, full of slips and slides of Biden's tongue. Plus, Mayor Wu has got no clue when it comes to the Mass and Cass encampments.
Max and Yusuf are joined by Curtis Davis. Author, abolitionist, and formerly incarcerated director of Decarcerate Louisiana. Curtis is a founding member and Executive Director of Decarcerate Louisiana, and the End Plantation Prisons Project. He was instrumental in overturning unconstitutional Jim Crow juries in Louisiana. He is also a member of the Abolish Slavery National Network and introduced the LA abolition amendment. Curtis's book "Slave State: Evidence of Apartheid in America" is available for purchase now. Curtis Davis spent 25 years in Angola prison. Since leaving that literal slave plantation he has become a beacon of hope for those still left behind. Of course we'll have news, updates, music, poetry, testimonies, and the voices of the ancestors reclaimed in our Bridging The Gap segment.

It's our 1st episode of Black August 2022. Martin Luther King Jr. warned that we face 3 evils in the world. Racism, Poverty, and War. In the 50 plus years since his assassination, racism has returned to its roots of forced bondage. Rebuilding a global system of enslavement through international prison industries. We've witnessed the largest mass displacement in mankind's history with some 82.4 million forced out of their homes. Unwarranted hubris among dictators has brought us dangerously close to a world shattering war with the most advanced military armies on earth. Fires rage out of control both literally and figuratively. Plagues unseen for generations have returned, and the threat of nuclear annihilation has never been closer. In merica we face civil war, mass killings, and political coups at the highest levels of government. White nationalists have become more emboldened than they have been since reconstruction. Saying the quite parts out loud for all to hear with no repercussions. All while slavery abolitionists work to finally end constitutional slavery in the US for the first time. Enter the Dragons of Black August 2022. Also, the free premier of the documentary Slave State 2022 happens on August 14th at East Baton Rouge Parish River Center Library. 250 North Blvd., 4th Floor, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802. Time: 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Come through and meet Max, Tribal, Curtis and the Decarcerate Louisiana organizers! Of course we've got flaming hot-fire music mixes, poetry, and our Bridging The Gap segment which brings the voices of the abolitionist ancestors back to life for a new generation.

Slavery boomed in Texas after the republic joined the Union as a state. This raised many questions for the new state: What was it like to be forcibly brought to Texas? How did bringing in thousands of enslaved workers affect Texas? How did the human-trafficking business in Texas affect the state and the people caught up in that system? What did slaveowners do to keep slavery profitable, and how did those actions affect enslaved Texans?

In the antebellum years, freedom and unfreedom often overlapped, even in states that were presumed “free states.” According to a new book by Kevin Waite, this was in part because the reach of the Slave South extended beyond the traditional South into newly admitted free and slave states. States like California found their legislatures filled […]

Ryan A. Quintana is the author of Making a Slave State: Political Development in Early South Carolina, published by the University of North Carolina Press in 2018. Making a Slave State examined how enslaved African Americans built the state of South Carolina, in the literal sense of the word. From roads to canals, from public buildings to military fortifications, Quintana examines not only how enslaved people were central to producing the state's infrastructure and early governing practices, but also how they claimed these same spaces for themselves. Dr. Quintana is associate professor of history at Wellesley College. He specializes in race, slavery, space, and the state in the late colonial and early national eras. Derek Litvak is a Ph.D. student in the department of history at the University of Maryland.

At the end of the day, it knows the game. This machine… Its burdened life your desire, your wants feel free But: What if I told you though this machine has a voice? What if I told you. this machine… It sleeps, it loves, it laughs, it fears… the voice, its voice to have a voice! History of Trialed trails of shaking hands grown old and frail. Yet, You can sell it; you can buy it, hate it, feed it, make greed from it But in the end, they need it. To live this your best life, it’s this, a slave you need At home a perfect machine, plowing seed The collar heavy, burden great, its shoulders weighed It ends like all end, of earth and stone decayed A Brief History Of Ancient Greece Greek history can be said to have started around 1600 BC, when the Indo-Europeans invaded the Greek mainland. The so-called Indo-Europeans were the group of people sharing the same language but not necessarily of the same ethnic race, who lived in the region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. They started migrating beginning around 4000 BC. Some migrated toward Europe and some toward Iran and India. A branch of the migrants moved into Greece around 1600 BC. People had lived in Greece for a long time before that event and an advanced Minoan culture had flourished in the Aegean islands, centering in Crete. These indigenous people are believed to have been of a different race from the Indo-Europeans, both culturally and linguistically. The palace of Knossos in the northern part of Crete, excavated by Arthur Evans in 1899, was the center of the Minoan civilization. The title Kamaeu, occurs in the Pylos and Knossos tablets. It refers probably to specific persons and not to titles. The persons that bore this title belonged to the lower social classes and included a "slave of the god" and a baker. The words doero and doera of the palace texts mean the slaves or the slaves who worked in the service of different individuals or the palace. Ancient Greek Class system male citizens - three groups: landed aristocrats (aristoi), poorer farmers (periokoi) and the middle class (artisans and traders). semi-free labourers (e.g the helots of Sparta). women - belonging to all of the above male groups but without citizen rights. children - categorised as below 18 years generally. slaves - the douloi who had civil or military duties. foreigners - non-residents (xenoi) or foreign residents (metoikoi) who were below male citizens in status. Conversely, there are no records of a large-scale Greek slave revolt comparable to that of Spartacus in Rome.[145] It can probably be explained by the relative dispersion of Greek slaves, which would have prevented any large-scale planning.[146] Slave revolts were rare, even in Rome. Individual acts of rebellion of slaves against their master, though scarce, are not unheard of; a judicial speech mentions the attempted murder of his master by a boy slave, not 12 years old.[147] From Unlike Christian ethics, labor itself was not regarded as a virtue in classical Greece. There were two reasons for this. First, it was believed that citizens should have as much free time as possible so that they could devote their time to participa- tion in government. (Note that a Greek word for labor is ascholia, a negation of scholè, leisure.) Second, it was believed that it was not good for a free man to work for others. Labourers Greek society included a significantly larger proportion of labourers than slaves. These were semi-free workers, wholly dependent on their employer. The most famous example is the helot class of Sparta. These dependents were not the property of a parti --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/seth-michels66/support

Brown and the free settlers were optimistic that they could bring Kansas into the union as a slavery-free state. After the winter snows thawed in 1856, the pro-slavery activists began a campaign to seize Kansas on their own terms. Brown was particularly affected by the sacking of Lawrence in May 1856, in which a sheriff-led posse destroyed newspaper offices and a hotel. Only one man, a Border Ruffian, was killed. Preston Brooks's caning of anti-slavery Senator Charles Sumner in the United States Senate also fueled Brown's anger. A pro-slavery writer, Benjamin Franklin Stringfellow, of the Squatter Sovereign, wrote that "[pro-slavery forces] are determined to repel this Northern invasion, and make Kansas a Slave State; though our rivers should be covered with the blood of their victims, and the carcasses of the Abolitionists should be so numerous in the territory as to breed disease and sickness, we will not be deterred from our purpose". Brown was outraged by both the violence of the pro-slavery forces, and what he saw as a weak and cowardly response by the antislavery partisans and the Free State settlers, whom he described as "cowards, or worse". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Brown_(abolitionist)#Pottawatomie John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry was an effort by armed abolitionist John Brown to initiate an armed slave revolt in 1859 by taking over a United States arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. Brown's party of 22 was defeated by a company of U.S. Marines, led by First Lieutenant Israel Greene. Colonel Robert E. Lee was in overall command of the operation to retake the arsenal. John Brown had originally asked Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, both of whom he had met in his transformative years as an abolitionist in Springfield, Massachusetts, to join him in his raid, but Tubman was prevented by illness, and Douglass declined, as he believed Brown's plan would fail. https://www.google.com/search?q=john+Brown+plans+Harpers+Ferry&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS721US721&oq=john+Brown+plans+Harpers+Ferry&aqs=chrome..69i57.16991j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Public Access America PublicAccessPod Productions Footage downloaded and edited by Jason at PublicAccessPod producer of Public Access America Podcast Links Review us Stitcher: goo.gl/XpKHWB Review us iTunes: goo.gl/soc7KG Subscribe GooglePlay: goo.gl/gPEDbf YouTube goo.gl/xrKbJb YouTube “Not for ourselves alone, but that we must teach others.” Elizabeth Cady Stanton

For some weeks, Gouverneur Morris of New York has been absent from the Convention. Now, at the lowest point of the proceedings, he arrives with a single purpose: to derail the 3/5th's compromise. The tensions rise as the Slave States begin to believe that there are those, "within or without doors" who mean to take their slaves away. This will never be acceptable to the Slave States, and indeed, there is at least one non-Slave State that admits that it feels the same way. The debate boils down to one simple thing, do we unite with slavery, or do we dissolve without it? Morris will attempt to force the latter, but like all others before him, he will fail. When the dust settles, the Connecticut Compromise passes, and the Convention begins to move forward again.

Club Moral featuring as a backing group with Coup De Grace on vocals, delay-machines, tapes and pyrotechnics. The events performed on were In Vitro by Club Moral, Altenberg by Cthulhu Records, Metabletica by V2 and The Bunker by Ret Marut. Since this tape is merely a documentation, the sound-quality may very between various recordings. (Text from cassette cover) This cassette was published in an edition of 113 copies. Some tracks were recorded stereo from P.A., some binaural and some plain mono on a walkman within the audience. The tracks performed live were previously released on two Coup De Grace cassettes: "Commencement / Corpse Education" (Introduction-March, Powermarch, Surrexit Dominus, Combat Zone, Finale) and "Anthems for Doomed Youth" (No Hope, End Sequence), some were previously released on various Inner-X-Musick compilations. The phonecalls were made while making arrangements for the In Vitro festival, the radio transmission was an interview at Radio Centraal in Antwerpen. The Tattoo Bar Gustaf recordings were made in a tattoo bar in the Antwerp red light district where Michael Moynihan had the Coup De Grace logo tattooed on the back of his shoulder. On one of the recordings you can hear Gustaf chasing away his aged German Shepherd dog who took a pleasure in eating bloodied tissues. We have been in contact with Coup De Grace since 1985, exchanging tapes and printed matter. When organising the 1986 In Vitro exhibition and concerts (see Club Moral Stocklist episode 058) we thought of inviting them to play there as well. Since budgets were rather small for this kind of events back then, we decided to team up with some other organisations to set up a small tour and share the travel cost. It was also decided that Michael Moynihan would just come by himself, and Club Moral would play as a backing band during the European shows. In the end Cthulhu Records, V2 and Ret Marut/Jazzbunker booked this unique collaboration for 3 more shows after the In Vitro II Festival. There was about a week of free time after the first show in Belgium and the last 3 performances occurred in a span of 2 days. If you look at the dates you will notice that the two Holland confrontations took place the same evening. This was due to the fact that after the dates had been arranged, V2 decided to change the days of their Metabletica festival. So we did the show in Rotterdam at 10:00pm, and then afterwards packed everything up and drove to V2 in 's Hertogenbosch, where the last performance was done (starting at about 1:30 in the morning). The components of the confrontations were as follows: AUDIO: Backing tapes, Vocals, Synthesizers & Electronics. VISUAL: Slides and Motion Pictures. Surprisingly enough after a whole day of driving (from Germany to Rotterdam, then playing the show there, then driving to V2) the last confrontation was probably the most powerful of all... (Text from Third Annual Report 12 31 86 by Coup De Grace) From about summer 1987 until winter 1988 Coup De Grace set up a European Office in an abandoned part of the Club Moral factory. Michael Moynihan was living there, first in companionship with Zenobia and later teaming up with Hamish Halley aka SerVex 23. Part of an attic space was rebuilt into lodgings, office and a workshop. The rent was remarkably cheap and the landlord didn't really bother about anything going on, so any kind of activity was possible. In October 1987 Coup De Grace was invited by AMVK to perform at an evening of Bar Europa, organised by NL-Centrum in Amsterdam. Hamish Halley set up a leather artefact and special clothing workshop and successfully performed his Prince Albert piercing at the Club Moral Quarters using a 10ga needle and a lot of will power. Thomas Thorn briefly stayed there and a one and only concert of Slave State was organised in a newly discovered basement underneath Club Moral. Basically both Michael Moynihan and Hamish Halley were living in Belgium illegally, which made them decide in 1989 to return to the US and New Zealand respectively. Michael Moynihan continues to publish music and books: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Moynihan_(journalist) Zenobia lives in Boston and works in the film industry. Hamish Halley is now in charge of Flesh Wound: www.fleshwound.co.nz Thomas Thorn is an active priest of the Church of Satan: www.churchofsatan.com
