In this episode, Alex starts by expressing his hesitations around George Santos getting expelled from the House of Representatives. Since Santos has not been found guilty of a crime (yet), Alex argues that this could set a bad precedent considering how polarized congress has become. Next, Alex shares his thoughts after watching the entire Red State/Blue State debate between Gavin Newsom and Ron DeSantis. With Sean Hannity moderating the debate, Alex argues that the debate was less about policy and economics, and more about making California look bad. Finally, it looks like the hostage swap/temporary ceasefire between Hamas and Israel has ended after both sides claim the other violated the agreement. New violence has been reported.

Guilty until proven innocent, Ron and Newsom, missing J6 files, Hamas and our Goofball-in-Chief

On today's show we open our Friday episode with Tara Bull's Top 10 News stories the Legacy/mainstream media likely didn't cover. It's always fun to see how much we hit on this show in the past week versus what most people would know from traditional outlets. Next, we discuss a terrible trend in this country of acting the notion of someone is guilty until they prove themselves innocent. The Republican's just aiding in voting out Rep. George Santos (R-NY) based solely on charges, but no actual conviction. I'm not here to defend Santos. What I am defending is the premise that I thought we believed in the presumption of innocence in our country and now the Republican party has kicked that concept to the curb. We then move onto the question, if two people are having a debate in the woods and no one is around to hear it, did it make a noise? The Red State/Blue State debate on the Hannity Show between Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) suffered from being irrelevant before it even started. There is no doubt DeSantis was the clear winner and that he is a wonderful governor. But, there is equally no doubt he will not be able to supplant Donald Trump as the presumptive nominee. Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), who is the Chair of the subcommittee looking at the work product of the prior J6 Committee, told us here on this show, a few months ago, that they were having trouble finding certain files. He just recently appeared with John Solomon and confirmed that many video files are also missing, including recorded statements and depositions. The “fraud” case in NYC brought by AG Letitia James gets even more curious after several bank witnesses this week testified that they made money off loans to the Trump company. How can there be a case of fraud when no one lost money? It's a curious thing, indeed. Trump attorney Alina Haba suggest that only fraud right now is what's being perpetrated on the people of New York at the hands of James and her irrational hatred of Donald Trump. Whomever is tweeting for Joe Biden, doesn't understand the concept of inflation. So, I once again illustrate how it works and how stupid most of the people in the current regime are. Hamas and Israel are back to fighting, which is not surprising given that two days ago, Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, said that October 7 was just a rehearsal and more was to come. But, that's okay. The Israeli Defense Minister said they were not going to stop until everyone in Hamas is dead, whether they dress in combat gear or three-piece suits, living in far off lands. Finally, we get to Joe Biden and another verbal gaff. The name he mistakes is actually a name he's mentioned before and that, too, has a history of showing how Biden was still comfortable making up stories that never happened. It just keeps getting worse. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. Rightwing billionaires (who pay an average income tax of 3.4 percent) think the world is made up of “makers” and “takers." They see us voters as an impediment to their oligarchic plans, so every Red state in the country is working today to make it harder to vote and, since five Republicans on the Supreme Court legalized it in 2018, they're also working to throw people in largely Democratic precincts off the voter rolls in massive purges.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

EPISODE 139: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: The Kevin McCarthy/Tucker Carlson Scandal has blown wide open as The Capitol Police Board meets to vote on whether or not to stop the Speaker from giving the Fox News Liar what Rep. Zoe Lofgren calls "a blueprint for bad guys on how to more successfully attack the Capitol." House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries convenes his caucus this afternoon to take what action it can as Jeffries calls the collusion between McCarthy and Carlson "an egregious security breach." In essence, Kevin McCarthy has STOLEN the January 6th video and handed it to Tucker Carlson, and Tucker Carlson and Fox News have already done more damage to this country than Al-Qaeda or ISIS or Atomwaffen or any other terrorist group could dream of. We're approaching the 20th anniversary of the day Geraldo Rivera, live on Fox News Channel, gave away the position and movements of the 101st Airborne Division, and was literally escorted out of Iraq by the U.S. military. This underscores the reality that Fox News has NEVER cared about the troops, about freedoms, about America. It sells a product. The product is phony patriotism. The product is a distorted picture of America. The product is hate. The product is lies. It's time to put the manufacturers of the product, Fox "News," out of business. B-Block (20:27) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Trump Georgia Grand Jury presents Hint Number 32,753; Barney Rubble's Body Double doubles down on the Red State/Blue State divorce but adds taking away voting rights for Democrats; Democrats make criminal referral on Ohio Train Disaster while Republicans hesitate to offend their corporate masters (31:20) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: an unfortunate Washington Post headline, a really dumb Oklahoma congressman, and a really disturbing Alaska state legislator who believes if an abused child is killed, "it's actually a benefit to society." C-Block (31:20) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: When I talk about Fox and its core value - evil - I'm not just repeating what I've heard. I was once fired, personally, by Rupert Murdoch, for telling the truth, and my bosses got dragged for it as well.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There's evidence that economically better-off voters tilt Republican. But there is a paradox. While richer voters tilt Republican, richer states tend to vote Democrat. To discuss this apparent paradox, as well as issues of poll accuracy, and how much the state of the economy has mattered in recent mid-term elections, EconoFact Chats welcomes Andrew Gelman of Columbia University. Andrew is a professor of statistics and political science at Columbia. His work has focused on a range of topics, including why it is rational to vote, and why campaign polls are so variable, when elections are often predictable.

Also: the NRA filed for bankruptcy, so of course Texas welcomed them with open arms, and Trump isn't going to pay Rudy Giuliani, much to the amusement of everyone.

We are living in stressful times, and for most of us, our respective political parties are working to create more division and unrest. Both the liberal and conservative parties need each other to exist, to have a "them" to fight against. And, since they're the controlling parties, they make the laws that shut out other political parties from having a legitimate chance for introducing more peaceful change that strives for unity rather than division. It is easy for one party to point a finger at the other, and both would be correct. It is time for a different approach.

The American day of remembrance of our fallen military personnel is a somber one but should be revered by every citizen. The sacrifice of our men and women in uniform is a reminder of the value of freedom and liberty and why we must never forget that it can be lost. The ongoing Pandemic lockdown and economic shutdown in the Red State / Blue State stalemate is clear evidence of how people can be hypnotized by leadership. Many Americans are paralyzed with fear over the idea of opening up the country while others are ready to go and get back to as much normal as possible. Is all of this a pre-cursor to something else? And finally, the politics of the lockdown and the attempted coup d’état against President Trump are easy to see, but why do so many of our fellow citizens either not see the facts or disregard them. This is a recipe for serious trouble.

There are two large political parties. There's the Democrats and the Republicans and the Democrats are blue and the Republicans are red. Also, there are animals which identity what party you're from. The Democrats are donkeys and Republicans are elephants and I don't know the history behind that. It's kind of weird but it's kind of funny as well, but I'm from a red state which is an elephant statue.Adria: Yeah, I'm also from largely a red state but we have blue enclaves[飞地,族群] inside that state.Shiloh: So what do you think, right now we have two major political parties in the United States, the Democrats, and the Republicans, and they're always fighting against each other and the bureaucracy and the politics always seem to be between parties instead of between issues. Do you think that this is a big problem? Do you think it's getting any better? What do you think about that?Adria: I definitely think that there's quite a gridlock[交通大堵塞] in the US political system because of the two-party, the very strong line two-party system, and in the Senate especially there's not enough you know between party negotiations going on. Everybody stays with their party instead of doing what's best for your state or for your people. So, for instance, with healthcare, Senator McConnell is Kentucky's representative but you know what's best for Kentucky might actually be nationalized healthcare because of how many poor people we have and pregnant thirteen-year-olds but I think that he just sticks with the Republican ideals without actually trying to see is this better for my people or not.Shiloh: I see. What do you think about talk radio shows and television, it seems like talk radio shows, political radio shows, are always bashing the opposition instead of talking about what is important. Do you think that this, I think that this contributes to inter-party feuds and I don't think it helps anything because what you wind up listening to is just argument against a party instead of argument against a position?Adria: I agree with that so I try to follow news that's a little more between the lines maybe. I listen to something called National Public Radio or NPR.Shiloh: I love NPR.Adria: It's a little liberal-leaning definitely, but I mean I recognize the liberal-leaning and I also get outside news sources from like BBC. That way they're not caught up in that whole two-party system, they're looking at it from a different perspective. So what about you? What do you watch or listen to?Shiloh: I watch the BBC a lot because they focus more on international politics, although I think the BBC focuses a little too much on African politics and not everywhere else in the rest of the world.

Last year, 72,000 Americans died from drug overdoses. A lot of those deaths -- about three-fourths -- were caused by opioid medication prescribed by doctors or substances like heroin obtained on the street. A disproportionate number of the dead are from West Virginia. For several years, the state has led the nation in per-capita opioid-related deaths. In this episode, hosts Trey Kay and Chery Glaser talk about the origins of the Appalachian drug epidemic. They're joined by Los Angeles crime reporter Sam Quinones, the author of Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic, and by Ian Kessinger, a former addict who now runs a recovery clinic in Elkins, West Virginia.

Manchin’s vote didn’t surprise many Mountain State voters, but it left a lot of people in other states asking, “Why is he even a Democrat?” That question came from listeners. “Red State Blue State” is a collaboration between Us & Them and KCRW in Santa Monica, California. Each week until the midterm election, we’re presenting a new segment co-hosted by Trey Kay in West Virginia and Chery Glaser in Southern California.

There have been times time when the U.S. Supreme Court seemed to be apart from the partisanship that’s infected other government institutions. But President Trump’s choice of Kavanaugh -- and the sexual assault accusations against the him -— have sent Americans on the Left and the Right running to their corners. “Red State” host Trey Kay went to a Trump rally to talk to supporters and “Blue State” host Chery Glaser brings us the voices of fearful protestors.

If you really listen, we sound like two different countries: Red America and Blue America. Then again, most of us aren't listening. As we head into the midterm elections, WVPB and KCRW are teaming up to try to change that. “Red State, Blue State” is a weekly conversation between West Virginians and Californians about the issues that divide us. Trey co-hosts the series. Over the next six weeks, we’ll bring you “Red State Blue State” as an Us & Them extra.

Sure, there's plenty of movers and shakers in California's political scene. But who are the Groundbreakers aiming to break the mold, move the needle, and establish a better connection between elections, the campaigning process and social change? We're starting a series of events called "Policy and a Pint" -- moderated panels and Q&As revolving around policy and politics on a local, regional and statewide level. In short: what's coming out of the Capitol, and how it's going to affect you as a voter, a taxpayer and a California resident. We're going to hold these events at breweries and other venues where a good pint of beer can be served (and eventually, good glasses of wine and good cocktails, both shaken and stirred). To kick off our first Policy and a Pint event, we're having a talk with some California Groundbreakers in the political field. They're spearheading programs, both in California and nationwide, aimed at changing the way elections work, and how politicians structure their campaigns, how voters get approached and marketed to, and ultimately, how decisions will be made at the voting booth. PANELISTS * Caitlin Maple, research analyst for California Forward, who' s leading that organization's new political reform project, the 50 State Solution (http://cafwd.org/50state/entry/california-forward-launches-50-state-solution-political-reform-project) * Paul Mitchell, owner of Redistricting Partners, which helps local governments navigate the quagmire of redistricting, and also vice-president of Political Data, Inc., a major provider of voter information to political campaigns, consultants and pollsters (www.sacbee.com/opinion/op-ed/article2601216.html) * James Schwab, chief of legislative affairs for California's Secretary of State Alex Padilla, who talks about the brand-new program his office just created to partner with colleges to get students more involved in the political process and turn out at the polls. PODCAST TIMEFRAME * 0 to 6 minutes - About California Groundbreakers * 6: 15 min - Introduction of the panelists * 11:30 min - What is the 50 State Solution? * 15 min - The CA's Secretary of State new efforts to get younger voters revved up, and to streamline voter registration * 22:30 min - Paul's no-filter thoughts on this year's election that he put down on paper as columns for Capitol Weekly * 30:30 min - Is polling still relevant? * 35 min - How social media fits into the campaigning and election processes * 46 min - How is that open-primary system working out for us so far? * 59:30 min - The Red State/Blue State mix in California now * 1 hr, 5:30 min - Is vote-splitting in an issue in this election? * 1 hr, 10:30 min - How to reduce misinformation to voters * 1 hr, 16:45 min - Predictions for how Gavin Newsom, Tom Steyer et al will do in 2018 * 1 hr, 23 min - How will "voter fatigue" affect people's decisions on the 17 ballot propositions? (and Google "Damien Carroll haikus ballot measures") * 1 hr, 32 min - Will Republicans ever have a chance to win again in California?
