It's Casual Friday! Sam & Emma speak with Jeet Heer, national affairs correspondent for The Nation, to discuss the upcoming stories to watch in 2025. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the House vote over the GOP Speakership, Trump's transition team, Biden's blocking of the Nippon Steel's takeover of US Steel, GOP judges killing Net Neutrality, the identities behind the attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas, California captive audience ban, Bird Flu, SEIU action, and Social Security retirement age requirements, before expanding on today's big Speakership vote as Mike Johnson begins to feel the heat. Jeet Heer then joins, diving right into today's ongoing fight over the Speakership, unpacking why, despite all the groveling, the GOP is likely to stand firm in line, just as they do with Trump. Next, Heer, Sam, and Emma parse thoroughly through the OTHER ongoing fight amid the GOP over the validity of H-1B Visas, a work visa for immigrants that puts their rights and wellbeing entirely in the hands of the corporation that employs them, unpacking the pro-H-1B (let's exploit immigrants) and anti-H-1B (no, we hate immigrants!) arguments on the right, before diving deeper into a genuine leftist critique of how these visa's work to lower rights for both workers and immigrants writ large, and the right's desire to use them as a part of their Social Darwinist vision. Jeet also expands on the failing tactic among progressive Democrats to work within the DNC power structure, tackling the potential for a new progressive movement to build up power in the House and Senate outside of the party infrastructure, and the growing possibility of said movement as we enter an era of seemingly anti-system electorate, also responding to some pushback about the mutual-exclusion of being a party outsider while still working with the party, before wrapping up with a brief conversation on Jordan Peterson, Pierre Poilievre, and the state of Canadian politics. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma parse through the ongoing discourse from the GOP over H-B1 visas, as the embrace of the exploitation of immigrants comes in conflict with the rejection of those immigrants themselves, with Charlie Kirk's crew helping to add some “DEI” dog-whistling into the mix. They also watch Mike Johnson sulk his way out of Congress until his ultimate victory in the speakership vote, and Sam walks the audience through the absurdities of Social Security's income cap, plus, your calls and IMs! The entire GOP from Trump on down was gunning for the head of the House Freedom Caucus on Tuesday night—and they succeeded, but only barely. We're recapping the latest primaries on this week's episode of "The Downballot," starting with Virginia Rep. Bob Good's near-escape from political doom. We've also got a compelling Democratic primary in NoVa, where a retiring congresswoman's blessing proved critical, and a brewing rumble in a swing district that will test a first-time Democratic candidate with immense fundraising prowess but limited experience on the campaign trail.

Join co-hosts Mark McNease and Rick Rose as we strap back into the hotseat after a few weeks off. We chat about the House Speaker Follies, Rick's upcoming trip to Belize, and enjoy an interview with Rob Pero, Found of Canndigenous, a Native-owned CBD company dedicated to helping the indigenous community it supports. About Canndigenous Rob Pero is a serial entrepreneur, savvy marketer, and proud member of the Bad River Tribe. Like preceding generations of Ojibwe people, his core values are rooted in love for family, support for community, respect for the natural world, and a commitment to doing everything, as the Ojibwe say, ‘in a good way'. With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, the ability to grow hemp (for the purpose of extracting Cannabidiol, or CBD) presented itself. In the sky-rocketing CBD industry, Rob saw both an opportunity to capitalize on a market void, and a tool to use for the betterment of his Indigenous brothers and sisters. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing what was a fitting end to a longstanding rivalry with Cal, a 50-49 Trojan victory that featured an on-field protest that delayed the start of the game, an untimed down after halftime before the third quarter started and a spectacular two-point conversion pass defense that sealed the victory for USC. Coach Hyde talks about the lack of discipline he has seen on this team, from penalties (11 for 101 yards for USC) to missed assignments to lack of attention to detail, and how that is going to need to change to have a chance at winning any of the remaining three games on the schedule. Players need to perform the assignment they are given and coaches need to stick with what is working and not get away from successful strategies. Coach Hyde wants to see more consistency and concentration from everyone in the program, from the players on the field to everyone on the sidelines. On that untimed down played before the start of the third quarter, Coach Hyde says he has never saw a play like in all his years coaching and watching college football. He also said that USC has the skill players to be a great offense with one of the top running backs in the country in MarShawn Lloyd, of of the top quarterbacks in Caleb Williams and great receivers, but doesn't see any identity in the offense right now. Coach wants to see things be more balanced to make it harder on opposing defenses instead of the Trojans are making it harder on themselves. On defense Coach feels like those turnovers were the key to getting the win. Somehow the defense made Fernando Mendoza look like Aaron Rodgers. There were gaping holes in the first half for the run game with guys taking the long gap. Second half was better with Eric Gentry playing better and Bear Alexander returning. Too many penalties on the secondary players. Coach says that the special teams problems are all about discipline, staying in lanes, when to run it out, not trying to be a star just go by the rules of where you are on the field. All of these mistakes in the kicking game are not acceptable and coach says you will lose games when you can't do those little things on special teams. As usual the guys answer listener questions via email, text message and voicemail to finish up the show. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! A stellar set of guests – Gloria Borger, Jonathan Capeheart, and Robert Costa–breaks down the battle and its aftermath. Bannon says Walker needs 1.1 million Republican and MAGA votes to win today. Trump doing a virtual rally helps, particularly in the big Congressional districts in northern Georgia. But it hasn't been the campaign that needed to be run. This thing's been run by Karl Rove and the Kemp people, they haven't really reached out to MAGA and haven't let Herschel be himself, a very powerful MAGA candidate, a right to life candidate who's revered in Georgia. They're banking on Kemp's ground game which crushed Stacy Abrams. The House Republicans will be taking on the Justice Dept. and the FBI that are corrupt. To take them on, we have to have a Speaker of the House like Jim Jordan who has complete steel in his spine. If we will, we save the Republic, if we don't the Republic is gone. GUEST: STEVE BANNON, BANNON'S WARROOM

Band It About - Proudly Supporting Live Music "Podcast Series"
Adelaide Drummer/Percussionist PAUL BUTLER joins me in The Engine Room this week to discuss his musical journey which began at an early age due to being born into a musical family. Paul's parents had been performing for many years and through their involvement in the industry, it was a given that he too would follow this path. As a child, Paul was fascinated with drums, and he first began to play them when Steve Staben offered to teach him. He was 10 years old when he first began playing at church services, and in year 6 he began taking drum lessons with Don Crook, his teacher at Sunrise Primary School and Temple Christian College, through to year 11. Paul joined his first band (away from the church) 'Spank n Funk' when he was in high school, he also began teaching after having done work experience with Don. In year 12 he began to study percussion with acclaimed teacher Jim Bailey, helping him to prepare for auditioning for The Adelaide Elder Conservatorium of Music. Jim Bailey was the Head of Percussion at the Elder Conservatorium, where Paul successfully gained the David Galliver Memorial scholarship and won a number of prizes at national percussion eisteddfods. Paul was percussion section leader of The Elder Conservatorium Wind Ensemble, and member of The Symphony Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. Paul completed his study achieving his Bachelor of Music and Honors in Percussion Performance. Jim mentioned that the Band of the South Australia Police were looking for someone for an upcoming event and asked Paul if he would be interested which of course he was. Paul enjoying playing with them and when he heard that they had an opening he successfully auditioned. Paul worked with the band for 7 years and during this time he gave workshops to schools, performed at numerous state events and official government ceremonies in a variety of groups, Parade Band, Wind Orchestra, Dixie Band, Big Band, Rock Patrol, School Beat Band and Percussion Ensemble. Highlights include the Sensational Adelaide Police Tattoo 2006, the Commonwealth Bank Police Tattoo 2008, Musikschau der Nationen 2008 in Bremen, Germany, and the Basel Tattoo 2010 in Switzerland. Paul has also played the corporate and club scene of Adelaide; he was resident percussionist at Savvy Bar and Vodka Bar. He has also performed with: The Baker Boys, The Revue, Bloky's Boys, The Attack, Wasabi, The Shizzle, Triple Score, Astronaut 7 Mammoth Logic, Squeaker, Porkie Pies, Matt Winter Band, and The Rules. As a freelance artist he has worked with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Arts Orchestra and played numerous shows throughout the Adelaide Fringe Festival, WOMADelaide, Cabaret Festival, and Feast Festival, alongside such names as Jon English, Todd McKenney, Cameron Daddo, and Julie Anthony. Paul's introduction to 'Cirque du Soleil' was through Ben Todd who had been performing with the company and suggested he audition. Paul auditioned but wasn't successful, a few months later he was invited to audition again, this time he was, so he gave the military band his notice, packed up and went overseas to join his first Cirque show 'Corteo'. Paul was with that show for 5 years touring through Europe, South America, Central America, and Mexico. He then auditioned for KOOZA, and was on that show for 3 years touring Australia, Asia, Singapore, China, Korea, and Europe. Paul joined KURIOS after another audition and was excited to be touring with this show as they were bringing the show to his hometown Adelaide in 2020. They performed in Sydney and Brisbane before remaining dates were postponed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Paul will be re-joining Cirque overseas early in the new year. What a difference two quarters makes. After going up 21-3 heading into the second quarter, the Alabama Crimson Tide made things a lot harder than necessary against the Florida Gators before escaping with a 31-29 win. There was heartburn aplenty for everyone surrounding the program, but is this a case of Massive Fan Overreaction, or are there concerning trends for this iteration of the Crimson Tide? That is a main discussion point of this episode of BAMSRadio so join Drew DeArmond, William "Redfish" Barger & Thomas Watts for another episode talking about everyone's favorite football team.
Dogs Are Smarter Than People: Writing Life, Marriage and Motivation
On BE BRAVE FRIDAYS, we share other people's stories (unedited) to build a community of bravery and inspiration. Please let us know if you want to share your story with us and we'll read it here and post it on our social media and website. This life is too short to not be brave. We can do this together. I wanted to share my be brave moment too! I have spent my whole life bouncing around jobs and never finding one that stuck. I thought teaching would be it but after this year, I already hate it. So I sat down and asked myself what I actually want in life. I want to write. I want to make money through my love of words. I want to create artwork, make cosplays, talk about books, basically anything that means I can work my own schedule and my own rules while fuelling my love of creation. So that’s my be brave moment. I’ve allowed myself to finally voice my dreams and start to plan how to make them a reality instead of forcing myself to grind through whatever job I’m currently working because I’m so scared of what people will think of me being a failure again.I’m absolutely terrified. But I’m also excited for the first time in what feels like forever. I may fail, but I may also soar. I won’t know until I take the leap. And that leap is happening in 8 daysKirsty Elizabeth Blind Faith: Lessons from a Scruffy Ball of FurJust after our family moved to Europe, our sweet cat Muffy passed away. We were all devastated, especially her sister Squeakers. That's how we found ourselves at a local home for wayward animals, adopting a kitten. “To keep Squeakers company,” we said, fooling no one. We arrived with my multi-lingual mother-in-law Denise in tow to help interpret, and we met four adorable, orphaned kittens clearly meant for us. Unable to pick just one, we brought them all home, to Squeaker's abject horror. Within hours everyone had cozied in, save Squeakers, protesting adamantly from her hiding spot under the couch.Intent on helping further, we donated cases of food to the overwhelmed center and, in the process, met the center's latest arrivals. Lots of frisky animals ran up asking for our attention.Denise was focused on something else, but we were too distracted to notice.I should mention here that Denise is legally blind. One eye is barely usable since a botched cataract operation, while the other blacked out after a stroke. All of which has left her depressed. Tilting her head this way and that, she manages some meager vision. And as we made the food delivery, she was intently focused on the grubby, orange ball of fur huddling in the corner.Asking what it was she was seeing, Denise learned it was a new arrival, a gravely ill kitten with wounds in both eyes. The director explained the kitten was an injured sibling of the same litter we had taken home found cowering nearby. We couldn't believe what we were hearing. Our gang of four had another sister — and one who needed immediate care. Needless to say, we grabbed the blind, sick kitten and raced her to a veterinary clinic. There we learned that her injuries were grave and her life was in danger. If she managed to live through the trauma, said the vet, the kitten might retain some vision. They cautioned us because the kitten seemed to have already given up. And so we began a series of treatments and operations we hoped would regenerate the health and sight of a very sick kitty.Months passed . . .We call her 3P. Piccola Peste Preziosa in Italian, which translates to Petite Precious Pest. She is a scamp and has more guts than the rest of her siblings combined. She adores Squeakers, who loves her dearly, all the while pretending not to. She is healthy and happy, recovering total vision in one eye and partial in the other. Her once grubby, malnourished self is now a blaze of beautiful, dappled cinnamon. And, what's more, she has given Denise a reason to live, and shown Squeakers how to love again, teaching by example how to dance with courage and dignity despite the odds. What Psychology Tells USLearned Helplessness is a powerful psychological concept first observed in animals and later applied to human behavior. Experiments have shown that when repeatedly subjected to situations beyond their control, animals fairly quickly adapted to the adverse conditions and subsequently failed to even attempt to escape the negative situations. In a nutshell, it explains how we get stuck, how we fall into defining ourselves by our least common denominator, how we let temporary limitations become permanent handicaps, how we fail to believe in ourselves above all. It explains why we don't try, try again when at first we don't succeed. Just as its name implies, we learn that we are helpless to control our fate and thus we stop acting in our own best interests, becoming victims of our own self-limiting thoughts. That is, until we find a way out of that dark tunnel. Until we find hope.Viktor Frankl, an Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist and concentration camp survivor, authored Man's Search for Meaning, which, in its original form translates more exactly to Nevertheless, Say Yes to Life. In these memoirs, he explored the importance of finding meaning in life despite external circumstances, no matter how brutal. Frankl insists, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”This lesson came to us in the form of a scruffy ball of fur, who said yes to life and in turn enriched all of ours.Donna Roberts BE A PART OF OUR MISSION! Troy says he’s been in Reno since 2006 and without stable shelter for the past three years. He says he used to be a carpenter who helped build houses, but his disabilities have made it impossible for him to pursue that line of work anymore. One of his prized possessions is a small solar panel he uses to charge his phone. He avoids shelters, he says, because he doesn’t want to be told when to wake up, and also likes to stay with his girlfriend and a dog he’s been taking care of he calls Squeaker. The Bul Bey graciously co-hosts this moribund romp-a-round. A haunted tea pot takes center stage and Grim talks about what its like to do push-ups in a pile of thumb tacks. Anything can happen on Halloween. Devyn does 'Eco-Tips' posthumously. The Publisher continues to work with the Ghost Writer. Andrea drives cross-country, but mostly snacks. Bedlam ensues in the Scary News. No 5G in The Garden of Ireland without more research. Adam goes for a super serious walk with some really super, super insight. Special thanks to UltimateRadio.co.uk for streaming the show live on the station! Happy Halloween!

The podcast goes a little potty-mouthed as Chris complains about waiting for his Christmas gift, Anna Marie complains about hard games, and we discuss the mess that is Fallout 76 (and its collector's edition). What a weird two weeks!
Like an overeager tourist, the Eagles flew down to New Orleans and promptly vomited all over themselves in a 48-7 dismembering at the hands of the Saints ...
Its the third annual Halloween Spooktacular and the guests do not disappoint: Human pincushion Bluebird Absurd and Ms. Modified explain (and demonstrate) what it takes to drive steel directly through the body. Grim Squeaker returns for a third time on the heels of his Ireland's Got Talent appearance and is no less freaky than on previous appearances! Shower Talk RETURNS with guest producer Maria as the guest. Toby conjures up the past in The Dark History Corner, Co. Wicklow makes the top 10 for two wildly disparate reasons. Adam's publisher is drunk in a graveyard and Andrea is drunk in the studio. Aztec calendars are not what the seem and we Go for a Walk to Fight Factory to talk to Mr. Small Package and J-Money!!

In Argentina, an 8 year old boy swallowed the squeaker from a pet toy... it was removed and the boy is OK, but geez it was funny up until then.

Squeaker toys are always a fun debate to have because they can be both fun and detrimental to some dogs. One positive aspect is that it can keep a dog busy but the negative is some squeakers can create an obsessive behavior. In this episode we dive in a little deeper to see how the dogs look at them. Be sure to subscribe!

Tim & Paul will discuss the Seahawks home Monday Night Football victory over Buffalo. Plus, they'll discuss the impact of injuries on the team, and if they can keep up their winning ways. All this and more on this week's episode of Double OT!
Anything can happen on the Halloween Spooktacular. UNFIXED brings you a Late Night Double Feature with reptile queen Kitty LeRoux and the unbreakable undead wonder Grim Squeaker! HEAR Kitty let her live snakes infest the studio while Grim Squeaker eats shattered glass and performs unspeakable acts involving a mouse trap. The two guests also visit the Pet Cemetery for a macabre double serving of "madra-lasagne". A silhouette assaults Adam's Publisher; Andrea gets into 90 seconds of trouble with a tow-truck driver. Shower Talk of Horrors features a toxic electric toothbrush surprise with Barney; Trouble emerges in two separate Dublin McDonald's'. Toby takes us all to one of America's earliest spook houses; he also gets annoyed by some less-than-veteran Rocky Horror Show attendees. It truly is a late-night double feature show. I wanna go.
Way back in the early days of Infusionsoft, Clate and Scott had a truck that didn’t work so reliably. Nicknamed “Squeaker,” the truck is at the center of a certain nearly-infamous and humbling incident, in which the execs Clate and Scott just had a sales meeting with saw them unsuccessfully trying to start Squeaker—a few times. Clate and Scott share what that incident taught them, namely that it’s relationships, not appearances, that make a deal, and that everything is a season—with a bit of perspective and humor, you’ll get through the tough times in your business and your life. It’s never too late—or too early—to plan for your business. Check out our ebook, “Your Game Plan.” Check out this and other episodes at smallbusinesssuccess.com.

Last night's Republican runoff election between Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran and Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel has kept the political pundits busy -- and surprised, as Cochran squeezed out a victory, thanks to appeals to African-American Democrats and a well-run Get Out the Vote effort from Republican leaders like Haley Barbour. Too bad Cochran is such a sore loser. Other topics include this week's White House Summit on Working Families and what's been handed down by the Supreme Court.MOMocrats Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss politics from the progressive POV. Produced by Engender Media Group.
