In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio discussing the Trojans second half comeback over Wisconsin and the upcoming road trip against Minnesota. After some time to digest what went down Saturday in the Coliseum the guys share their thoughts on the game, including what they heard from Lincoln Riley on Trojans Live and following Tuesday's practice. Riley was able to provide some injury updates including safety Akili Arnold and linebacker Eric Gentry being listed as questionable for the road trip to Minnesota. As expected, there was no sight of Bear Alexander at practice and no further update on his status with the team. We they have discussed since Connor broke the news last week, we don't expect to see Bear around the team for the rest of the season. Linebacker Raesjon Davis also appears to be a redshirt candidate as he was wearing a scout team jersey during Tuesday's practice. There was also a lot of talk about the offensive line focusing on the fundamentals coming off of that Michigan loss. The front five played better against Wisconsin, but there was still a lot of pressure on Miller Moss and they need to keep developing and improving as the season goes on. Looking ahead the guys talk about this extremely important business trip to Minneapolis where the Trojans will try to secure their first road win in Big Ten conference play. The Golden Gophers are 2-3 on the season but gave Michigan all it could handle last weekend in the Big House, so USC will need to come to play if it wants to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio discussing how the Trojans are trying to move on from the heartbreaking loss to Michigan this week and looking ahead to Wisconsin for the first Big Ten game in the Coliseum. The guys talk about what head coach Lincoln Riley had to say on Trojans Live and after Tuesday's practice plus what the offensive players talked about including Woody Marks and his amazing strip of the football that essentially kept the Trojans in the game against Michigan. They also look ahead to an important matchup against Wisconsin and talk about how the Trojans will try to get right on offense and keep the high level defensive play going against the Badgers. If getting pushed around by Michigan's defensive front wasn't enough to light a fire under this Trojan offense, knowing former DC Alex Grinch and former starting linebacker Tackett Curtis are on the opposing sidelines should be all the motivation Miller Moss and company needs. Outside of three plays, the USC defense played extremely well against the Wolverines and a similar effort should be enough to shut down Wisconsin who is without its starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. They also give their thoughts on the Bear Alexander situation with some interesting comments on social media from his camp and former USC football players. On Tuesday Lincoln Riley said, "there's no story there," but the social media posts keep coming. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football prodcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's upcoming trip to Ann Arbor and the matchup with Michigan in the Trojans' first-ever Big Ten game. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill.' Shotgun talks about former USC wide receiver Drake London having the game-winning catch on Monday Night Football as the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Philadelphia Eagles. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about how excited he is about the upcoming matchup of USC playing in The Big House and the opportunity to cover a game in another historic venue. Chris and Shotgun then dive into a preview of the upcoming Michigan game for the Trojans, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday afternoon's game. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore unveiling his starting quarterback five days before kickoff, how the Michigan offensive line is looking compared to last year and how much concern there should be about Bear Alexander's lack of production through the first two games. The Helium Boys also give their Mount Rushmore of former Wolverines before debating the top movie of The Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman's notable career. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the upcoming game and the state of Michigan. Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball
The NCAA Transfer Portal has opened up for the spring session and there have been some massive names to enter including some former five-star recruits and college football darlings. As one should, Arizona State Sun Devils football must monitor the additions and see if any peak their interest. With some recent injuries to the team, it wouldn't be the worst thing to target a few guys to add to the team and perhaps even find some cornerstone players for the program. Naturally, the Sun Devils will be drawn to the biggest name on the market, for five-star recruit and Colorado cornerback Cormani McClain, but there is an equally intriguing player to look at in former Arizona corner Tacario Davis, who could maybe be convinced by former teammate Jacob Kongaika to come play for the good guys. Speaking of Kongaika, the defensive line needs some more depth after losing Anthonie Cooper to a torn ACL. There are several big names to add from USC's Bear Alexander to TCU's Damonic Williams, but a familiar face in Jermayne Lole, most recently with Louisville, would also make fans happy. Host Richie Bradshaw talks about these guys and why they make a wishlist for Arizona State Sun Devils football to add via the NCAA Transfer Portal on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Monopoly GO!Get in the game and join your friends. John Calipari has said goodbye to Kentucky but has yet to officially say hello to Arkansas. Andy breaks down farewell videos from John and Ellen Calipari and handicaps the Kentucky hoops coaching search. (0:00-20:05) Intro - Calipari Confirms He's Leaving Kentucky (20:06-24:17) Transfer Portal Ramping Back Up - Bear Alexander (24:18-28:49) Oregon State RB Damien Martinez to enter (28:50-30:40) Indiana State's Robbie Avila to enter portal (30:41-37:14) Florida State vs ACC Update (37:15-1:05:49) Jake Rowe from Dawgs HQ joins (1:05:50-1:07:09) Dear Andy Tomorrow! andystapleson3@gmail.com Meanwhile, the football transfer portal is about to get some action. The window for undergraduate transfers doesn't open until Monday, but two big names indicated on Tuesday that they plan to enter the portal when it opens. USC defensive tackle Bear Alexander — perhaps the biggest mover in last year's spring portal when he went from Georgia to the Trojans — plans to move again. Meanwhile, Oregon State tailback Damien Martinez — who averaged 6.1 yards a carry for the Beavers last year — also plans to enter the portal. The basketball portal remains busy as well. Indiana State's Robbie Avila — affectionately known as Cream Abdul-Jabbar or Larry Nerd — has entered his name into the portal. Is he following former Sycamores coach Josh Schertz to Saint Louis? Or is he looking elsewhere? In a Tallahassee courtroom, a judge denied the ACC's request to stay Florida State's lawsuit against the league. A North Carolina judge denied Florida State's request last week to stay the ACC's suit against the Seminoles in that state. That means things are about to get pretty messy, and the suits involving Clemson and the ACC in South Carolina and North Carolina haven't even gotten rolling yet. Next, Jake Rowe of On3's Dawgs HQ previews Georgia's spring game. The Bulldogs are loaded again, but how exactly will they replace production from stars such as Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey? The Helium Boys Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino reuniting to react to USC's off-the-rails 50-49 win at California in this Halloween edition of the Helium Boys Podcast. They break down the back-and-forth battle with the Golden Bears that was settled by a defensive stop of a two-point conversion attempt, improving the Trojans to 7-2 on the season. Shotgun and Chris discuss the notable takeaways, including the dynamic defensive impact of Eric Gentry, USC actually sticking with the run game for four quarters and how Bear Alexander's presence in the second half completely transformed the defense. Throughout the episode, Chris also plays a game, stopping the action to ask Shotgun to react to a spooky fact or guess the horror film a quote is from. The Helium Boys Halloween episode opens with the 'Two-Minute Drill' as each gives his initial reactions to the Trojans' win over Cal and the biggest things that stood out. In the Stock Up/Stock Down segment, the podcasting duo discuss who/what impressed, including USC's fight and the rising expectations being greater than the appreciation for fans. The Helium Boys also look into what stocks took a hit over the weekend such as nickelback Jaylin Smith and the rising number of plays Lincoln Riley says the Trojans need to fix on each side of the ball. Chris and Shotgun also look forward at the "really cool opportunities" the Trojans have in front of them, starting with a matchup against No. 5 Washington Saturday in the Coliseum, featuring a showdown between last season's Heisman Trophy award winner Caleb Williams and the current favorite for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The Helium Boys then answer your questions from Twitter, email and Instagram discussing Lincoln Riley/Alex Grinch, the defense, Halloween costumes and Halloween candy. Then during the overtime portion of the 'Take It or Leave It' section, Chris questions Shotgun on the top candy in a variety of states. Finally, the podcast concludes with the Helium Boys giving their score predictions for the USC-Washington matchup (4:30 p.m. PDT) in the Coliseum this weekend. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing what was a fitting end to a longstanding rivalry with Cal, a 50-49 Trojan victory that featured an on-field protest that delayed the start of the game, an untimed down after halftime before the third quarter started and a spectacular two-point conversion pass defense that sealed the victory for USC. Coach Hyde talks about the lack of discipline he has seen on this team, from penalties (11 for 101 yards for USC) to missed assignments to lack of attention to detail, and how that is going to need to change to have a chance at winning any of the remaining three games on the schedule. Players need to perform the assignment they are given and coaches need to stick with what is working and not get away from successful strategies. Coach Hyde wants to see more consistency and concentration from everyone in the program, from the players on the field to everyone on the sidelines. On that untimed down played before the start of the third quarter, Coach Hyde says he has never saw a play like in all his years coaching and watching college football. He also said that USC has the skill players to be a great offense with one of the top running backs in the country in MarShawn Lloyd, of of the top quarterbacks in Caleb Williams and great receivers, but doesn't see any identity in the offense right now. Coach wants to see things be more balanced to make it harder on opposing defenses instead of the Trojans are making it harder on themselves. On defense Coach feels like those turnovers were the key to getting the win. Somehow the defense made Fernando Mendoza look like Aaron Rodgers. There were gaping holes in the first half for the run game with guys taking the long gap. Second half was better with Eric Gentry playing better and Bear Alexander returning. Too many penalties on the secondary players. Coach says that the special teams problems are all about discipline, staying in lanes, when to run it out, not trying to be a star just go by the rules of where you are on the field. All of these mistakes in the kicking game are not acceptable and coach says you will lose games when you can't do those little things on special teams. As usual the guys answer listener questions via email, text message and voicemail to finish up the show. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! USCFootball.com's Helium Boys, Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino, were reunited over the weekend and are back together to try to break down and make sense of USC's 34-32 loss to Utah in this edition of the Helium Boys Podcast. They react to the Trojans' first loss at the Coliseum under Lincoln Riley, a defeat to dreaded Utah on a field goal as time expired, that drops them to 6-2 on the season and all but guarantees USC will not be able to make the College Football Playoff in the final season of the four-team era. Shotgun and Chris discuss the notable takeaways, including USC's refusal to lean heavily on its run game, the emotions that poured from Bear Alexander after his late targeting penalty, whether or not the Trojans should have gone down at the 1-yard line and the decision by Lincoln Riley to not make any players available to the media. The Helium Boys open with the 'Two-Minute Drill' giving their initial reactions to the Trojans' loss to Utah and the biggest things that stood out to each of them. In the Stock Up/Stock Down segment, the podcasting duo discuss who impressed, including Romello Height, the Branch brothers and the revamped offensive line. The Helium Boys also look into what stocks took a hit over the weekend like the trust in the run game and the two-point conversion play calling, including the attempted use of cut blocking by the offensive line. They also look at how the collapse of College Football Playoff goals will affect the team going forward and whether this could be a situation that releases the pressure from players, allowing them to go out and have fun and play to their potential going forward. Chris and Shotgun also look at the upcoming matchup against California and the Golden Bears grab bag of quarterbacks. The Helium Boys then answer your questions from Twitter, email and Instagram discussing the defense and the overall vibe of the team. Then during the overtime portion of the 'Take It or Leave It' section, Chris questions Shotgun on the top five and bottom five fruits. Finally, the podcast concludes with the Helium Boys giving their score predictions for the USC-Cal matchup (1 p.m. PDT) in Berkeley this weekend.
