ReferenciasBarker, A. J. (2023). Acoustic communication: Deer mice join the chorus. Hello, my name is Eric LeMay, a host on New Books in Literature, a channel on the New Books Network. Today I interview Jennifer Kabat. Kabat is writer I've followed and admired for decades. T.S. Eliot once said of Henry James, "He had a mind so fine that no idea could violate it." Kabat has a mind so sweeping, so generous that no detail escapes it. She writes of history, ecology, art, science, time, place, and epochs with a painter's attention and a poet's heart. Her latest book is called Nightshining: A Memoir in Four Floods (Milkweed, 2025). She is also the author of The Eighth Moon: A Memoir of Belonging and Rebellion. Her writing has appeared in McSweeney's, BOMB, The New York Review, Los Angeles Review of Books, The Believer, Virginia Quarterly Review, Granta and The White Review, among many others. Today, she takes us from the first trees to appear on our plant to the aspirations of scientists amid the Cold War to the floods that ravaged her hometown, where she also serves on her local fire department. Enjoy my conversation with Jennifer Kabat. Learn more about your ad choices. Four years ago, Max Kabat left Manhattan to reinvent local journalism in the remote West Texas town of Marfa. He didn't just take over a newspaper—he built a café, bar, event space, and community hub to fund it. Now, that bold experiment is not only thriving but inspiring others to rethink what local media can be. We caught up with Kabat to find out how it's working, what's next, and what lessons other publishers can take from the journey. Scott Kabat is the Founding Partner and CEO of 621 Consulting, which provides fractional marketing leadership to help companies accelerate growth and navigate strategic transitions. With a team of over 350 seasoned marketers, 621 Consulting offers services, including go-to-market planning, demand generation, revenue operations, and brand positioning. Before founding 621, Scott held executive roles such as CMO at One Medical and Prezi, led the launch of Flip Video (acquired by Cisco), co-founded the edtech startup Knowmia, and held marketing positions at Cisco and Clorox. In this episode… In today's competitive landscape, building a brand that stands out isn't just about flashy campaigns; it's about challenging the status quo and forging deeper connections with customers. But how do companies navigate this process while assembling the right marketing leadership to scale effectively? According to Scott Kabat, a seasoned marketing strategist and entrepreneur, the key lies in crafting a clear challenger narrative that resonates emotionally while delivering simplicity and value. He highlights that too many companies get trapped in complexity, diluting their message and missing their moment. By focusing on what makes a brand likable in an otherwise unlikable category, leaders can differentiate themselves and inspire loyalty. Scott also emphasizes the growing importance of fractional marketing teams in bridging skill gaps and providing strategic direction during pivotal growth phases. In this episode, John Corcoran sits down with Scott Kabat, Founding Partner and CEO of 621 Consulting, to discuss building challenger brands and leading fractional marketing teams. They explore how to align brand storytelling with business strategy, the benefits of fractional CMOs, and why marketers need to embrace experimentation. Scott also shares how his early career experiences shaped his leadership philosophy.

Zoom! This episode of Kaatscast delves into the transformative period of the 1830s in the United States, marked by mass enfranchisement and significant demographic changes. The focus narrows to New York's Anti-Rent War (1839-1845), a period of political violence rooted in immigration anxiety and financial distress. Rebecca Rego Barry, our new literary correspondent (!), interviews author Jennifer Kabat about her new book, The Eighth Moon, which explores the Anti-Rent War and its legacy in the Catskills and beyond. Kabat shares her research process, the radical political history she uncovered, and personal anecdotes about moving from London to the Catskills. The conversation evaluates the parallels between past and present political climates, culminating in a discussion about belonging and rebellion in rural America. 00:00 The Radical 1830s: A Time of Change 00:27 Exploring New York's Anti-Rent War 01:34 Interview with Jennifer Kabat 03:34 Discovering Local History 08:33 The Anti-Rent War Unfolds 17:07 Modern Parallels and Reflections 21:42 Community Connections and Belonging 27:31 Upcoming Works and Final Thoughts 34:39 Conclusion and Credits
As I mentioned in my American Heroes Run episode, there were numerous impressive performances and I'm going to bring you chats with some of these while I'm traveling. First is Lisa Kabat, who not only improved her distance in the 9 hour & 11 minute race from 48 miles in 2023 to 62 miles this year, but also smashed the race record… the men's record, too. Given the unusual time length, perhaps that's a world record? Lisa lives near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, but she prefers to run loops around her neighborhood, to the tune of 25 miles every day. Yes, that's right. Thus, the loop format of the American Heroes Run suits her very well. What was cool was that Lisa generally had a big smile as she completed every lap. This might distract you from gawking at her unusual running form. She runs on her toes with a short, machine-like stride, with arms wildly swinging. I coached high school basketball for many years, and my first instinct would be to fix bad shooting form. But if the player was making his shots, you just shrugged and let it go. The same thing applies to Lisa – it seems to work for her. It's funny but just last week some people I was with talked about this woman with the funky form who they would see over and over and over running past their house near where Lisa lives. I've got a strong hunch I know who they were talking about! Lisa's next goal is Tunnel Hill, which, while it's out-and-back, is relatively flat. As she says, with her style it's likely she should stay off of rocky trails. But in our fun chat, you'll be impressed hearing how she fits huge miles into her schedule, and her enthusiasm for cranking out repetitive miles.Lisa KabatFacebook Lisa KabatBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @coachstahlYouTube We Are Superman Podcast
1994. gada 28. septembrī vētrā Baltijas jūrā nogrima pasažieru prāmis "Estonia". Prāmī atradās 989 apkalpes locekļi un pasažieri. Viņu vidū – 29 no Latvijas. Viens no sešiem Latvijas iedzīvotājiem, kuri izdzīvoja "Estonia" katastrofā. Viens no četriem, kuri vēl var par to pastāstīt.
On this edition of Madison BookBeat, host Sara Batkie speaks with author Jennifer Kabat about her memoir The Eighth Moon from Milkweed Editions, ahead of Kabat's appearance at A Room of One's Own on Tuesday, September 10th.A rebellion, guns, and murder. When Jennifer Kabat moves to the Catskills, she has no idea it was the site of the Anti-Rent War, an early episode of American rural populism. As she forges friendships with her new neighbors and explores the countryside on logging roads and rutted lanes—finding meadows dotted with milkweed in bloom, saffron salamanders, a blood moon rising over Munsee, Oneida, and Mohawk land—she slowly learns of the 1840s uprising, when poor tenant farmers fought to redistribute their landlords' vast estates. In the farmers' socialist dreams, she discovers connections to her parents' collectivist values, as well as to our current moment. Threaded with historical documents, the natural world, and the work of writers like Adrienne Rich and Elizabeth Hardwick, Kabat weaves a capacious memoir, where the past comes alive in the present.Jennifer Kabat's diptych The Eighth Moon and Nightshining are being published by Milkweed Editions in 2024 and 2025. She's been awarded a Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant for her criticism, and the books were supported by grants from the Silvers Foundation and NYFA. Her essays and criticism have appeared in 4 Columns, Frieze, Granta, The White Review, BOMB, Harper's, The Believer, and McSweeney's as well as Best American Essays. She lives in rural New York, serves in her local fire department and teaches in the Design Research MA program at SVA.

Adam Kabat's The River Imp and the Stinky Jewel and Other Tales: Monster Comics from Edo Japan (Columbia UP, 2023) is an in-depth introduction to the rich and ribald world of kibyōshi, a short-lived (1778-1807) subgenre of books combining text and illustration on the same page, much like comic books and manga today. This book presents a selection of five kibyōshi in which monsters play central roles. Each of these short books is reproduced in its entirety, accompanied by Kabat's translations and commentary. Kabat's selection of tales communicates the entertainment value and thematic variety of these stories, as well as their deep web of interconnections with contemporary culture and the urban economy. The book will be of interest not only to scholars of premodern history and literature, but also to a larger audience including the growing ranks of manga and anime fans. The connection between tobacco smoke, cancer and heart disease has been well established since the 1800's, with irrefutable medical evidence presented since the 1950s. There is no question that smoking has significant public health impacts. The effects of second hand smoke were examined in various studies and also claimed negative effects. But these reports has some significant limitations, and larger studies later showed no significant risk. One of the authors, cancer epidemiologist Dr. Geoffrey Kabat, recounts the publication, the fallout, the lack of defense from the scientific community, and later independent reports that would reinforce their findings of no association with lung cancer and heart disease. While predating social media, the findings that did not fit a public health narrative where harshly criticized, using arguments that failed to address the evidence. This example is a precursor to understanding the modern-day discussions about issues like vaccination, COVID19, glyphosate, and other topics where the evidence is strong, but public opinion often fails to accept it. Dr. Kabat's accompanying article on Quillette.

Rozmawiamy, czyli kultura i filozofia w Teologii Politycznej
We wtorek, 13 grudnia o godz. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Jim explores marriage prep and married life with Dcn. Kabat to highlight the importance of open communication, honesty and expectations when it comes to pornography usage. Takeaways: 1. Marriage " work" never ends. We should be learning about each other every day. 2. Culture wants us to believe sexual intimacy is just a recreational activity. 3. Nobody likes to hear the word pornography but we need to be able to discuss it.

Lekarze regularnie mają do czynienia z pacjentami, którzy - mimo fatalnych rokowań medycznych - nagle wracają do zdrowia. Michał Poklękowski rozmawia o tym z doktorem nauk medycznych Pawłem Kabatą, specjalistą chirurgii ogólnej i onkologicznej, autorem książki "O chirurgii inaczej"
After a fleet driver was kidnapped whilst driving in Mexico, the technology he had in his car alerted emergency services. Artificial vision and in-cabin video were used to flag the event in real-time. Combining Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things technology sent the driver's location and video to the company's control centre who alerted law enforcement, allowing them to track him down and return him safely the same day. To find out more we spoke to Romil Bahl CEO of KORE Wireless the company behind the technology and Niv Yarimi CEO of KABAT, the fleet company whose driver was kidnapped. Protecting the Amazon from deforestation with tech Providing indigenous communities in the Amazon with technology, including satellite images, maps, smart phones and GPS, can reduce deforestation. Data delivered to remote communities on USB by couriers navigating the Amazon river enabled communities to monitor for forest loss. Connecting deforestation alerts with indigenous communities means local patrols can guide themselves to areas thought to be undergoing unauthorised deforestation. In turn this allows communities to defend their land from deforestation. Jessica Webb from Global Forest Watch tells us more.
