eir has announced that all eir TV customers are now upgraded to full Amazon Prime membership at no extra cost. Currently, eir is the only telecom provider in Ireland to offer this benefit. This follows the recent launch of Amazon's dedicated Irish platform, Amazon.ie. This enhancement builds on eir's commitment to delivering best-in-class home entertainment and follows the recent rollout of Ireland's first and only WiFi 7 system, delivering lightning-fast 2 Gb speeds over eir's 100% fibre-to-the-home network. Previously, eir TV customers had access to Prime Video, but they are now upgraded to full Amazon Prime membership at no extra cost, unlocking a host of premium benefits beyond streaming. Customers can now enjoy fast and free delivery on millions of items, unlimited access to Prime Video, and exclusive perks with Prime Gaming, including free games and a Twitch channel subscription. Members also receive unlimited digital photo storage with Amazon Photos, early access to deals, and Prime-exclusive discounts on shopping. Additionally, customers can take advantage of Deliveroo Plus Silver free for a year, offering savings on food delivery and discounted Odeon Cinema tickets. Existing Prime UK customers can save €130 per year by moving to Amazon Prime with eir. eir TV customers can now stream Amazon Prime Video on up to three devices simultaneously, with access to blockbuster movies, hit TV series, live sport, and Amazon Originals. With its new Android-powered eir TV Box, eir provides a seamless, future-proofed entertainment experience, combining live channels, on-demand apps, and major streaming platforms, including Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video. This latest upgrade underscores eir's ongoing commitment to digital entertainment and connectivity. Following the launch of Ireland's first WiFi 7 system and the introduction of the Android-powered eir TV, eir is delivering a next-generation home entertainment and broadband experience. Customers can enjoy ultra-fast, reliable connectivity throughout their homes with WiFi 7, lightning-fast 2 Gb broadband speeds (with 5 Gb coming in June), and now, full access to Amazon Prime at no extra cost. Speaking about the announcement, Susan Brady, Managing Director of Consumer and Small Business at eir, said: "eir is committed to innovation and delivering the best digital experiences for our customers. By upgrading eir TV customers to full Amazon Prime on us, we're setting a new standard for home entertainment and connectivity. With eir Wide-Fi, lightning-fast 2Gb speeds, and our next-generation eir TV experience, we're bringing world-class connectivity to every home - supporting every device, in every room."
In our highly connected world where it's not unusual to have dozens of devices using the internet at any one time in many households. The biggest scourge is often not broadband speeds but the so-called ‘Not spots' - those corners of the house which wifi can't reach. Eir claims that its latest wifi technology called wifi 7 may have solved that conundrum. Speaking to Joe this morning on the show was Susan Brady Managing Director of Consumer and small business with Eir - and began by asking about its new concept of Wide-fi.
eir has launched the country's first WiFi 7 system, setting a new benchmark for broadband speed, coverage, and reliability. With eir's WiFi 7-powered Wide-Fi, weak spots and dead zones are a thing of the past, providing ultra-fast, reliable connectivity throughout the home. This advanced WiFi 7 mesh system ensures seamless device performance and whole-home coverage. Offering speeds up to twice as fast as WiFi 6 and the ability to support up to 200 devices simultaneously, this state-of-the-art system transforms home broadband performance, delivering lightning-fast 2Gb speeds over eir's 100% fibre-to-the-home network. This launch comes as eir reports an almost 40% year-on-year increase in fibre-to-the-home network usage, reflecting the growing demand for high-speed broadband. To meet this demand, eir is upgrading its network to offer 2Gb speeds over 100% fibre-to-the-home network, with 5Gb speeds coming in June. With the launch of WiFi 7, eir is introducing Wide-Fi, an advanced solution that eliminates dead zones, delivering ultra-fast fibre broadband to every space in your home, ensuring fast, reliable connectivity in every room - from the attic to the garden. With new and upgrading customers on select plans able to access WiFi 7 for just €49.99 per month as a special introductory offer. As part of this upgrade, all customers who subscribe to the 2Gb broadband plan, along with WiFi 7 will be automatically upgraded to 5Gb at no additional cost, when the service becomes available in June. Alongside the launch of WiFi 7, eir is elevating home entertainment with its brand-new Android-powered eir TV Box. Designed for an intuitive viewing experience, eir TV seamlessly integrates live channels, on-demand apps, and major streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video (included free with eir TV). Featuring Dolby Vision Atmos and built-in Chromecast, the service offers a premium, future-proofed entertainment experience for just €14.99 per month. At today's launch event at eir's Dublin headquarters, CEO Oliver Loomes highlighted the growing demand for faster, more reliable broadband: "In 2024, Fibre to the Home traffic surged by nearly 40%, underscoring the need for superior connectivity. WiFi 7 represents a pivotal milestone in eir's digital evolution. With a €1.7 billion investment in infrastructure, eir has delivered fibre network access to almost 1.4 million homes and businesses. As Ireland's first WiFi 7 home system, eir Wide-Fi sets a new standard for fast, reliable, and future-proof broadband." Loomes also emphasised eir's ongoing commitment to digital infrastructure: "Our continued investment in fibre and mobile networks supports €172 billion in annual digital economic activity and helps position Ireland among the top five EU nations in the Digital Economy and Society Index. We're now expanding further with an additional €500 million to bring gigabit fibre to 1.9 million premises, covering 84% of the country." Susan Brady, Managing Director of Consumer and Small Business at eir, said: "At eir, our purpose is to connect for a better Ireland. As the first, and only, provider to bring WiFi 7 to the country, we're not just leading the way, we're setting a new standard for home broadband. WiFi 7 delivers lightning-fast speeds, seamless multi-device support, and rock-solid reliability across the entire home - this is eir's longest-range WiFi yet. It's a game-changer in wireless technology, offering twice the speed of WiFi 6 with ultra-low latency and powerful tri-band technology, it delivers lightning-fast streaming, flawless gaming, and seamless remote working - all at the same time. We're driving Ireland's digital transformation with ultra-fast 2Gb broadband speeds, setting the stage for an even faster future. With 5Gb speeds launching in June, early adopters who sign up for the WiFi 7 system today will be automatically upgraded to the new speeds. And we're not stopping there - our next-generation eir TV service, powere...
Research commissioned by eir shows that children in Ireland are accessing their first mobile phones at the average age of nine, more than three years earlier than parents' preferred age of between 12 and 13 years. The study, which surveyed 522 parents across the country, also found that 42% of parents provide their children with a phone earlier than they would like, largely due to safety concerns. Despite this, over a third of parents reported being unsure of how to access the built-in parental controls to help monitor and manage their children's online activity. In response to this, eir has launched its Smart Start programme, a free in-store initiative designed to help parents set up parental controls, manage smartphone features and access alternative solutions tailored to their family's needs. Following a successful four-week pilot in December, the programme is now rolling out across 10 eir stores in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, and Offaly include the eir store in The Bridge Shopping Centre, Tullamore Starting from Monday 20th January, parents and guardians can attend drop-in sessions which will take place from 10:30 am -11:30 am Monday - Saturday, at participating eir stores, where trained staff will be on hand to provide support and advice. To ensure the advice is both robust and practical, eir consulted with CyberSafeKids, who endorsed the programme and provided expert input to train eir staff on best practices for helping parents safeguard their children's smartphone use. The research highlighted a discrepancy between parents' confidence in managing their children's smartphone use and the reality of children's online behaviour. While 71% of parents believe their child can self-manage online activity and 80% think their child would share negative experiences, findings from CyberSafeKids Left To Their Own Devices report, suggest a more complex reality. According to their report 77% of 8-12-year-olds say their parents cannot see what they are doing online, and 55% did not tell a parent when they encountered harmful content. This difference in perspective highlights the value of the Smart Start programme, which offers practical tools, tailored guidance, and alternative solutions to help them navigate the complexities of their children's digital lives. Alex Cooney, CEO of CyberSafeKids, highlighted the importance of such initiatives: "We know parents are aware of the risks? that accompany smartphone use, but?often?lack the support they need to mitigate these effectively. We're?delighted to have contributed to the development of the Smart Start programme, ensuring parents receive practical guidance?at the point of purchase to help their children navigate the online world safely. Programmes such as this?, which empower parents?in the digital age?a?re hugely welcome." In addition to assisting parents with smartphone set-up, the programme offers smart alternatives, like child-friendly smartwatches and broadband modem control features, allowing families to stay connected while giving parents greater oversight. Susan Brady, Managing Director of eir Consumer and Small Business, commented on the initiative: "At eir, we understand the difficult balancing act parents face when it comes to giving their child a smartphone. As parents ourselves, we know how important it is to stay connected with our children, and our research reflects that same concern. But we also understand that the challenges of managing mobile devices can feel overwhelming, and parents need support in navigating these risks. That's why we've created Smart Start - to provide practical tools and personalised guidance that help families make the right choices for their unique needs." Brady added: "We know that while many helpful resources are available, parents are already managing so much in their day-to-day lives. Through Smart Start, we're committed to being there for parents every step of the way, offering practical support that makes the process easier and hel...
How can school leaders make informed decisions about reading curriculum when they know the home environments among their student body vary widely?I don't envy people tasked with these kinds of decisions. My opinion is that schools should ensure students get their instructional needs met during the school day, because it's difficult to control what happens to students once they leave the school campus.Direct instruction of reading has to fall on the plate of educators. If we assume certain practices will be done at home consistently, we create huge equity issues. With all that being said, school staff can work to create a shared partnership with families and communities. Even though they might aim to include the essentials during the school day, they can provide opportunities and tools for students and families to support literacy outside formal classroom instruction.I invited Susan Brady, a reading specialist from Illinois, to De Facto Leaders episode 179 to discuss how she's helped her community get access to books and extracurricular activities that support literacy. Susan Brady has been in the teaching profession for over 40 years. She worked in a private school where she taught first grade and kindergarten. Sixteen years ago she began work in the public schools as a kindergarten teacher. In 2008, she received her Master's Degree in Reading from Governors State University and became a Reading Specialist. She moved to middle school 5 years ago and works with small groups, large groups, and push-ins. She also has started and run engaging book clubs for her students to help get them excited about reading. This episode is part of the National Literacy Month series of podcasts, presented in partnership between the Be Podcast Network and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF).In this conversation, Susan shares:✅Are reading teachers getting the pre-service training they need to critically evaluate research and implement instructional practices?✅Relying a curriculum versus leveraging a curriculum to guide your practice✅How to start a book club and get students excited about reading✅Where to find inexpensive or free books for schools and families✅Navigating logistical and equity issues when hosting community events and running extracurriculars. The following resources were mentioned in this episode:Our partner for the National Literacy Month Campaign, Reading Is Fundamental (https://www.rif.org)Better World Books (https://www.betterworldbooks.com/)First Book (https://firstbook.org)BookShare (https://www.bookshare.org) United for Literacy (https://www.bookshare.org)Little Free Library (https://littlefreelibrary.org)In this episode, I mention the School of Clinical Leadership, my program that helps related service providers develop a strategic plan for putting executive functioning support in place in collaboration with their school teams. Whether on TV or online you've probably seen the latest glitzy advert from Eir called 'Eir For All'. It stresses that the telecoms giant is there in every county and for everyone. Certainly Eir is ubiquitous and Ireland's average broadband speeds are now above rather than below the average for European households. But the consumer watchdog recently said that Eir was the number complained-about company in the country. So work still to do. To discuss all Joe spoke to Susan Brady, Managing Director of Consumer and Small Business in Eir.

This week we discussed how an Easthampton school superintendent candidate had his job offer rescinded for addressing two female colleges as “ladies” in an email exchange. It brought up the conversation about what language categorizes as a “microaggression” and when it's perceived by some as such, how to navigate that conversation. Susan Brady, CEO of Simmons University Institute for Inclusive Leadership joined Dan to discuss.

A powerful conversation with Susan Brady, CEO of Simmons University Institute for Inclusive Leadership and author of Arrive and Thrive: 7 Impactful Practices for Women Navigating Leadership. In conversation with Coaching.com CEO Alex Pascal, Susan outlines the career journey that brought her to write her most recent book. She also shares her perspective on mastering your inner critic, including why men and women engage differently with theirs. It's not just problematic narratives in our own minds that make us feel smaller and not good enough; the world also reinforces these beliefs. Susan's work is concerned with how we arrive back to a compassionate center, both for ourselves and other people. During this episode, she explains the importance of understanding who your best self is in order to be able to return to this person swiftly. As an experienced expert in women's leadership, Susan has many informed opinions on the most effective methods of increasing workplace diversity. One of the issues she identifies with Alex is that men may have justified concerns about stepping in to right the wrongs that they've observed.Susan has ideas about how to avoid blaming and shaming and using compassion and empathy as the fuel for change. She also clarifies why she believes it's crucial to pursue diversity across dimensions, beyond the well-intentioned but ultimately inadequate concept of allyship. To unlock strategies for exercising empathy and reconnecting with your inherent worthiness, listen to the full episode!
