Send us a textEpica returns in full force with their 9th studio album, Aspiral — a testament to their evolution as symphonic metal mainstays. We recently caught up with powerhouse vocalist Simone Simons to discuss the journey behind the record, shaped by over two decades of experience and artistic growth. Drawing from the joys and challenges of motherhood and the rhythm of everyday life, Simone shares how these personal layers have fueled her creative fire. The album's title, "Aspiral," was inspired by a 1965 sculpture by Polish artist Stanisław Szukalski — representing the intricate, winding paths carved by the band's collective vision.Known for their grandiose sound and commanding live shows, Epica shows no signs of slowing down. With Aspiral in their arsenal, they continue to push boundaries while honoring the symphonic metal tradition they helped define. Simone also speaks on the thriving creative community she's cultivated through Patreon, a space that's inspired new artistic outlets beyond music, including photography. Aspiral is out now via Nuclear Blast Records — stream it, buy it, and experience it. Rzeczpospolita multi-kulti".
Simone Simons is the lead singer for symphonic metal group, Epica, that just released their 9th studio album, Aspiral. The album title is derived from the eponymous bronze sculpture made by Polish sculptor and painter Stanisław Szukalski back in 1965. It stands for renewal and inspiration – keywords that define Epica in 2025. In Szukalski's work every detail is a piece of art on its own and there's always more to the story than you initially think. The band saw this as the perfect analogy for the creation of this album: each song stands on its own with a distinctive vibe and meaning, while together they enforce each other into a monumental effort. At the same time this symbolizes EPICA's group dynamic throughout this process: they have encouraged, inspired, and challenged each other repeatedly. Determined to achieve something that is greater than the sum of its parts, they left no stone unturned in their search for perfection. If it's up to creative people to push boundaries, then this sextet sure did just that. When the band was preparing to write a new album, they kept this in mind: to create, you must destroy. As mentioned earlier, this meant destroying the individual ego and create as a unity. You'll hear that this made the album even more personal and to the point. More alive and adventurous. But it also made EPICA destroy old underlying patterns to re-invent themselves and to create a bold new era for symphonic metal in general. The band felt the immense urge to focus on what really matters: emotions and melodies. In all capacities. As the new album is all about focus, the band asked contemporary sculptor Hedi Xandt (Rammstein, Ghost, Parkway Drive) to set all this into a stunning visual representation. It's a bold statement and a homage all in one. If the number 9 represents divinity, perfection, and spiritual growth, then this album is the modern interpretation of just that. Musically, lyrically, and visually. Breathe in, breathe out, 2025 belongs to EPICA.
Interview by Angela CroudaceIn an interview with Simone Simons, lead vocalist of the symphonic metal band Epica, we dive into the band's upcoming album Aspiral—a powerful reflection of their growth, both musically and personally. Simone describes Aspiral as a fresh start, where the band's continuous evolution is highlighted through their music and lyrics. The title of the album was inspired by a Stanislaw Szukalski bronze sculpture, a piece of art that left a profound impact on the band after a visit in 2022. Simone explains that the album's theme of rebirth, renewal, and self-discovery resonates deeply with the band members, as they navigate their individual struggles and experiences. The synergy between art and music is a key theme, with Szukalski's sculpture influencing not just the visuals but the emotional core of the album. The band embraced a unique writing process through isolated writing camps, allowing them to fully immerse in creating without distractions. Simone shared how the intimacy and collaboration during these camps fostered a stronger bond between the band members, helping them achieve creative heights while crafting songs with emotional depth.Simone also reflected on the emotional power of Epica's music, recalling poignant fan interBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Wraz z ludźmi odpływają wpływy do budżetów mniejszych gmin (samorząd utrzymuje się w głównej mierze z podatków dochodowych), a infrastrukturę trzeba wciąż utrzymać, zadbać o pozostałych mieszkańców. Today on Art of the Cut, we're talking with the editors of Netflix's documentary “Greatest Night in Pop.” They also were part of the editing team of “Mountain Queen: The Summirs of Lhakpa Sherpa.” Carlos Haynes has worked on Neymar: the Perfect Chaos, Amend: the Fight for America, and Kevin Hart - Don't fuck this up. David Brodie was an editor on The volunteer, Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski and Selena Gomez: my Mind and Me. Will Znidaric was an editor on projects like Biggie: I've got a story to tell, Neymar: The Perfect Chaos, and Quincy. The discussion today will be a deep-dive into successful documentary editing including how to build a character arc, treating interviews like a narrative editor treats performance, and how you need to know where your story is going before you decide on how the documentary will begin. Today, Jeff Szukalski of Jeff's Spirits on Main jumps into the studio to talk about the West Bend Christmas Parade. Yes, yes...Christmas in July and all of that. No, I didn't plan for this episode to land in July... it just matched up because their annual Jingle Bell Open golf outing fundraiser is coming up on Monday, August 1st. Jeff talks about some of the really interesting history of the West Bend Christmas Parade, including the fact that it is Wisconsin's longest consecutively running Christmas Parade despite it almost shutting down twice. This also marks the end of Season 1 of Fifteen Minutes with Fuzz. I'm going to take a break for the month of August so that I can spend some more time with my family before they all go back to school (including one of them heading off to college).

In today's episode, the Chart squad (Javier specially) has the pleasure to introduce you to the artist you didn't know you needed to know: Stanislaw Szukalski. Born in 1893, he enrolled in the Chicago Institute of Art a prodigy at only 13 years of age. After graduating he made a name for himself in Paris, where he participated in the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern and Decorative Arts. He seemed like your average chap until 1940, when he started a 40-year-long journey to develop a pseudo-scientific theory called Zermatism. Long story short, humanity originated in the post-deluge Easter Island and had to battle the descendants of the Yeti throughout history. Yeah, you read right. Surely you can't wait to learn more about one of the craziest and most beautiful minds in the history of art, so tune into this week's episode! WEEK IN GEEK: This week, Andrew takes dives into season three of Netflix's The Travelers and ponders how it continually plays with time travel in interesting ways while D. Bethel gets educated and affected by the Netflix documentary, Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski––a documentary about artist Stanisław Szukalski and his time trying to create a national artistic identity for Poland, his brush with nationalism, his loss of everything due to Nazi occupation, and his rediscovery by a bunch of scraggly Los Angeles underground comix makers. Here's the trailer for Travelers, season 3. And here's the trailer for Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski. A Netflix original documentary, Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski takes us inside the mind of one of the last century’s great characters, offering a startling look at how history can stand in the way of true artistic genius in one generation while stepping aside to reveal it dramatically in the next. In 1968, pop culture collector Glenn Bray, who had an interest in surrealist art, happened upon an unusual book featuring the art of Stanislav Szukalski. Like most people, Bray had never heard of Szukalski, but he delighted in showing the book of drawings and photos of sculptures to his circle of friends in the underground art comic world, including Robert and Suzanne Williams and George DiCaprio, who found the forgotten Polish master’s vision far ahead of its time. It was a few years later when Bray noticed an unusual poster depicting Copernicus on the wall of a small bookstore in Tarzana – something he immediately recognized as the work of Szukalski. The bookseller informed him that the artist himself had given the poster as a gift – in fact, he lived nearby. Bray couldn’t believe it – this long-forgotten genius was still alive, and in the same area code. Featuring archival footage and dozens of interviews with Szukalski himself, Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski offers a startling look at how history can stand in the way of artistic genius in one generation while stepping aside to reveal it dramatically in the next. Director Irek Dobrowolski and Producer Stephen Cooper join us to talk about an incredible artist and incredibly complex, nearly forgotten “genius” who remained true to his inner demons. netflix.com/Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski
