Demetri Martin jokes about touching something with a ten foot pole in his Netflix special, "Deconstructed".
Dennis Jagard is a musician and sound engineer. He is the singer, songwriter, and one of the principle members of the legendary skate punk band, Ten Foot Pole. I grew up listening to Ten Foot Pole. One of their songs in particular is one of my favorite songs in the world. Dennis and I get to talk about that. I tell him why the song means what it does to me and my interpretation of it, and he gives some insider insight of the writing of the song. This is what 1000 is all about!
Hey, is that your old tee shirt? Peculiar grooming tools, and the people who need them. A new weather word. Have you tried to convince a friend that something is true because you saw it on video? Marci has seen the unbelievable. Turi doesn't believe it. Dead things.
Donuts N' Glory were a band from SoCal. They opened for bigger acts, like No Use for A Name, Suicide Machines, Nonsense, Ten Foot Pole, The Queers, The Quincy Punks, etc. In 1996 they recorded “When Pregnasaurs Ruled The Earth” at Westbeach in Hollywood with Donell Cameron, the same studio where Fat Wreck Chords had used for recording many of its bands in their early years. After the release of their record, they toured the west coast once, and toured to the east coast and back twice. A second album was never recorded. This is an accidental 2 part interview. I talked to their drummer Gary in Episode 114 which you can find on youtube or thiswasthescene.com since podcast apps only keep your current 100 episodes. Hey said I should talk to Freddie so he connected us and this is what we chat about: Their upcoming reunion shows Were they rusty at the first practice Traveling the world solo Seeing Sublime before they became Sublime Putting out their 7in Keeping a journal Playing new old songs at the reunion shows Are they writing new songs And a ton more Go follow their IG www.instagram.com/donutsngloryofficial Their Saturday show on Aug 3rd is sold out but they have tickets left for their Friday Aug 2nd show. “Ten Foot Pole” from 2024-02-18 by Matt Matthews.
Before we begin, go buy Amy Fiddler Records new book “Negatives” which is A gorgeous hardcover time capsule of the emo music scene as it was from 1996 to 2006, featuring never-before-seen photographs and never-before-told stories from key emo musicians, photographers, and icons. And go check out Episode 139 to hear my interview with her. Pulley is an American, California-based punk rock band, formed in 1994. The band is known for straightforward, hard-edged melodic punk rock. They came about from vocalist Scott Radinsky's departure from Ten Foot Pole. Their initial lineup included Strung Out drummer Jordan Burns, guitarist Jim Cherry also from Strung Out, guitarist Mike Harder, and former Face to Face bassist Matt Riddle. Pulley's debut album, Esteem Driven Engine, was released in 1996 by Epitaph Records. They followed up with 4 records in the next 8 years. They've released a ton of records since then and are still playing shows. I got Scott on the Skype and this is what we chat about: Ten Foot Pole Wendy Cherry Mystic Records Splitting with Ten Foot Pole Getting cancer Starting Pulley Jim Cherry And a ton more Today's episode is sponsored by NJ band THIEV. After playing in hardcore bands for more than a decade (hell mary, silence equals death, entropy, the banner and so on), THIEV was started to play the music that got them into playing music in the first place- fast, melodic punk like those old fat, nitro and epitaph comps. Check out their double ep 12 inch “break/fade” out on protagonist music and recorded at Nada. Follow their ig @thiev_nj for the most current happenings. Harvesting the Crust was an inline skate movie from the mid 90s that was shot out in the Mid West. I used to watch the shit out of this movie with my buddies back in the day because we were all into inline skating. I even mention this in my Ten Foot Pole interview. I reached out to Shane Nelson who helped make the movie and even stars in it, asked him to do the podcast, he said yes, and this is what we talk about: Ten Foot Pole How people found other skate videos Being a stunt double in Mighty Ducks Chris Edwards Having a seizure Helping to make Like a Lion - The True Story of Legendary Skier Tanner Hall Producing an Against Me! video Jon Cheese did they get licensing for the songs in Harvesting the Crust the skateboard dude from the video Dave Paine from Videogroove Brian Smith Scribe sled dogs Producing a NOFX video And a ton more Check out his company Omni-Fusion.com. Ten Foot Pole was founded in 1983 under the name Scared Straight. After going through several members and name changes, they began playing with some "Nardcore" bands from nearby Oxnard, California, which helped them gain recognition. They eventually changed their name to Ten Foot Pole. One of the reasons for the name change was to move away from the "straight-edge" reputation that followed the band with a name like Scared Straight. After the release of Rev and a split EP with Sweden's Satanic Surfers, Singer Scott was forced to leave the band due to his professional baseball commitments and Ten Foot Pole's desire to be a full-time touring band. From then on Dennis took over lead vocals for the band and has been the front man ever since. They've released 7 albums since Rev including their latest album Winning which came out in 2022. You can catch them out on the road becasue they're still touring. I reached out to the band, got Dennis on the Skype and this is what we chat about: Harvesting the Crust Brian Walsby The Tour with NOFX Mystic Records Coming up with the name Departing with Scott Radinsky Doing sound for Prince, Beck and others Victory Records The Rev cover How to release songs on Spotify Playing for a wedding And a ton more Go follow them on Instagram and check out their website tenfootpole.com for merch and news. On today's episode, I'm extremely excited to be speaking with Mr. Chris Dalley, drummer of Authority Zero. This guy has been in several other legendary skate-punk bands over the years. He's played with Zero Down, Ten Foot Pole, Pulley, Death by Stereo, Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Implants, and the list goes on. All before joining the Mesa Arizona band Authority Zero. He's been with them for 8 years. They put out a fantastic record last year titled "Ollie Ollie Oxen Free". We talk about his story, what led to him wanting to tour and play in bands for a living. How he got into punk rock. His first encounter with Cameron Webb. We talk about a lot in this episode. I really appreciate Chris's time; he was a total sweetheart. I've always appreciated Chris' love of music on social media, it's infectious. I've really been enjoying his rundown of his favorite records in 2022, it's made me a bigger fan of some of the bands. We talk about some of them in this episode. So, without further ado, please enjoy this multifaceted conversation with Mr. Chris Dalley.
Punk-O-Rama was the title given to a series of ten compilation albums published by Epitaph Records. The first volume was released in 1994, the second in 1996, and the rest annually from 1998 to 2005. The albums included artists from Epitaph's roster as well as from its subsidiary label ANTI- and its partnership labels Hellcat Records and Burning Heart Records. In total the series included 257 songs contributed by 88 different artists. Rancid and Pennywise are the only bands to appear on all 10 volumes. People know Scott Radinsky for two very different reasons. During the ex-pitcher's lengthy Major League Baseball career, he managed an impressive 3.44 ERA and tallied 52 saves in almost 500 innings on the mound with the White Sox, Dodgers, Cardinals and Cleveland. In addition to being a proficient reliever, Radinsky is also an accomplished punk-rock vocalist who used to sing in Ten Foot Pole and, since the mid-'90s, has been the frontman of Pulley. Having excelled in the realms of both sports and music, Radinsky's career arc is unparalleled, so you know he has some great stories to tell. Shortly after the release of Pulley's seventh album (The Golden Life, out now on SBÄM Records!) and a run of shows in Europe and Canada, Radinsky spoke with My First Band host Tyler Maas about the recent tour with Bad Religion and Pennywise, the response the new record has received, and what's on the horizon for the band. Over the course of the conversation, Radinsky discussed the drastic differences between life as a pro ballplayer and a touring punk musician, experiences from his early bands, his departure from Ten Foot Pole and the start of Pulley, and the similarities between a great pitching outing and a great show. My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Lakefront Brewery. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify and wherever else you get podcasts. You can also listen to rebroadcasts of previous My First Band episodes on WMSE every Wednesday from noon to 12:30 p.m. CST. Formed in late 2014 in South Wales, Punk Rock Factory combine everything you love about 1990s/2000s punk rock, and reimagine classic and hit songs like you've never heard them before. From Meat Loaf to Disney, nothing is off-limits to them. The band rehearse, write, record, mix, master and film everything themselves in one dedicated space that they affectionately call "The Sausage Factory" and have no problem bringing friends along either. To date, Punk Rock Factory has had singers from bands such as Protest the Hero, Bowling for Soup, Mest, Rufio, Belvedere, Ten Foot Pole and more, provide guest vocals on tracks, firmly cementing themselves as a punk rock household name. On the new album, Masters of the Uniwurst, Punk Rock Factory takes on 21 classic TV theme songs including, Arthur, Power Rangers, Saved By The Bell, The Flintstones, Goof Troop, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pokemon and many more. I spoke via Zoom with all four members of Punk Rock Factory about Masters of the Uniwurst, cover songs in general, and more.

Scott Radinsky is the lead singer of the band Pulley and you might also know him from his earlier bands Ten Foot Pole or Scared Straight. He was directly involved in the birth and growth of the 1980s "Nardcore" scene (Oxnard, California hardcore), he co-owned a legendary skatepark and skateboard museum and he was a professional baseball player and coach! In this episode we're talking about all the above, as well as the making of and story behind Pulley's first ever acoustic EP "Different Strings", which they released in May 2021 on SBÄM Records.Enjoy!Links and show notes:benedikthain.com/orp60Please send questions, guest requests, suggestions and feedback to:podcast@outbackrecordings.com

This episode we get to chat with the amazing Scott Radinsky. Scott regales us with his experiences in Scared Straight, Ten Foot Pole and oh yeah PULLEY. Also Scott was a major league baseball player and a major league baseball coach. Let wrap our mind grapes around this so our guest basically was crushing it on the Warped Tour and then AND THEN would go and then strike out like Ken Griffy Jr. This guy is AMAZING. Plus he was super rad to talk to. Also MOLOTOV COCKTAILS.....!?!?!?!Yep, we've got ya covered. It's Crash Time!!!!
Following years of bullying, ninth grader Ollie committed suicide. Now on the first day back at school after the tragedy, his friends and classmates gather to figure out who's responsible and find a way to heal. “Richly thoughtful…Salerno presents each character with emotional truth.” - NOW Magazine tenfootpole.ca facebook.com/tenfootpole
Pulley Frontman Scott Radinsky is a punk rock legend and the first professional athlete to appear on Between Awesome and Disaster. He talks to Will about growing up in the Southern California punk and hardcore scene, moving from drums to lead vocals, getting drafted by the Chicago White Sox out of High School. Balancing his music career and his career in Major League Baseball, the foundation that the DIY punk bands laid for artists today, being signed to Epitaph Records, touring Europe and Asia with Pulley, plans for new music from the band and cautious optimism for a post pandemic world. To say that I've been looking forward to finally catching up with Scott Radinsky for a long time is an understatement. Radinsky has spent more than three decades carving out a career in not one, but two of my lifelong passions: baseball and punk rock. If you're watching this as a long-time Dying Scene follower, you no doubt know Radinsky as the trademark voice behind a couple supremely influential - if underrated - California punk rock bands: Scared Straight, who were vital in getting the "nardcore" scene on the map before reconfiguring as Ten Foot Pole, and, for the last quarter-century, Pulley. At this point, you're also no doubt aware of Radinsky's successful career as a quality left-handed relief pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, LA Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and, finally, Cleveland Indians (you can Google his stats if you want, but he finished with a solid career record of 42-25 with 52 saves and a 3.45 ERA over the course of 11 years. Trust me: that's rock solid.) His career was also interrupted by a bout with Hodgkins Disease, and his comeback won him the 1995 Tony Conigliaro Award. As a lifelong Boston-area guy, also trust me...that's a big deal. We finally caught up with Radinsky recently to talk about how the COVID shutdown has impacted both of his beloved professions, and how they both had to pivot in different ways. Pulley, obviously, had to cancel some overseas tour plans, but the lockdown allowed them the opportunity to work on some brand new material in different and more focused ways than they have in years. It also found them playing a handful of acoustic sessions , which spawned a series of releases containing stripped down renditions of a few songs from each of the band's revved up studio albums to date. The first of those releases, Different Strings, is due out this month on SBAM Records - a label that should sound familiar as its founder, Stefan Beham, was our guest for Episode 36. Donuts N' Glory were a couple of high school friends with similar musical tastes started playing together with no intentions of anything serious. They put an ad up in a local record store (Vinyl Solution in Huntington Beach, CA) seeking a singer and bass player. A few days later they met and played with Freddie, who played bass and sang. They liked him instantly and began writing songs, playing parties, and developing a fan base. Once a buzz started developing, they started playing real shows at local clubs. A friend of theirs released the "I can Pee EP" on Pinkie Records out of San Diego. His good friend knew someone in Blink (who later became Blink-182) and they landed a show with them. This got them some attention and they signed a two-record deal with Liberation Records out of Anaheim, California, started by a sixteen-year-old, Dave T. The band was featured on the Liberation Records compilation, "Punk Sucks". Dave set the band up with bigger shows, opening for bigger acts, like No Use for A Name, Suicide Machines, Nonsense, Ten Foot Pole, The Queers, The Quincy Punks, etc. In 1996 they recorded "When Pregnasaurs Ruled The Earth" at Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood with Donell Cameron, the same studio where Fat Wreck Chords had used for recording many of its bands in their early years. After the release of their record, they toured the west coast once, and toured to the east coast and back twice. A second album was never recorded. I reached out to Garry Cassidy on Instagram to get him on the Skype and this is what we talk about: Boxcar Playing shows with Blink Recording with Mike Rosas of Inside Out Playing a show in a cave What were their crowds like being on Liberation Records Would they do a reunion show The artwork for When Pregnasaurus Ruled the Earth And a ton more Gary is a General Contractor out in Costa Mesa, CA and his domain is gccrocks.com. Time to don your spandex tights, weigh yourself down with an overabundance of jewellery, and empty a can of hairspray in to your mane, as Sam and Emma discuss the power ballad Love Song, by the hair metal band Tesla, and the cover by Ten Foot Pole (Punk Goes Metal).

Dennis Jagard: songwriter, lead vocal, rhythm guitars; Scott Hallquist: lead guitars, backing vox, songwriting; Seth Jude Richard: bass, backing vox; Guillaume Fortin: drums and backing vox SoCal verteran punk rockers Ten Foot Pole are back with a brand new album entitled "Escalating Quickly", released on May 10th, 2019 "Escalating Quickly", producer Ryan Greene, anxious to showcase his skills beyond the iconic 90’s albums he produced (NOFX, Lagwagon, and No Use for a Name, etc.), was going for “The Bohemian Rhapsody of 90’s punk,” adding layers of ear candy and outlandish special guest shredding to the solid new TFP songs. Ryan added “If I never do a record after this I would want people to remember me by this record. Attached are two singles "Everything Dies" and "Forever Road" Everything Dies: A fun, bouncy, sing-a-long celebration of impending doom. Love, life and even puppies are not safe in this reminder that there is no happily ever after—but maybe that thought can help us let go of our worries and enjoy the moment. Forever Road: A metal meets space pop anthem of defiance against corrupt and tyrannical forces. We know the struggle never ends, but are committed to making the best of things…and rocking out with shredding guitar solos to keep up our spirits. We'd appreciate if you would give the tracks a listen. Any exposure you can give us, would be greatly appreciated. We are also open for interviews. Should you need additional information, please do not hesitate to ask. For more information visit: www.tenfootpole.com

Welcome to Part Two of our interview with Dennis Jaggard on Prestige Worldwide! If you missed last week’s episode, you might want to go back and catch the first half, otherwise this might be a bit disjointed. However, you’re not going to want to miss more of Dennis discussing his band, working with Weird Al & Prince, and so much more. No End Times this week, but the boys do a quick recap of the fantasy movie league, and Bobo issues a new challenge to the audience. When the movie league doubles the number of audience members who play, Bobo will personally buy and sponsor a rotating trophy to the season winner! So call everyone you know and get them to join up! Also, Andrice isn’t MC, and Travis has the worst memory in the world. All this and more on this week’s episode!
This one is quite the reach, but there are things to know about ten-foot poles that aren’t immediately obvious. And towels. Honestly, quite a bit about certain towels. And measurements. It’s probably mostly about measurements in fact. But that’s okay. Because we’re all really hoopy froods. Honestly. Holy returning guests, Batman! Dennis Jagard of Ten Foot Pole returns to the cast to discuss their new record, tour plans, and Weird Al!
The Boys are doing something a bit different this week and next week, so get ready for a delightful change of pace! Bobo and Travis conducted a 2 hour interview with the amazingly talented and generous Dennis Jaggard, lead singer, guitar player, and principal songwriter for the band Ten Foot Pole. While Ten Foot Pole never cracked the mainstream success that Bobo thinks they overwhelmingly deserved, Dennis has been a veteran of the music industry for over 30 years, and has a ton of interesting things to say. And now, you get to hear them on this week's and next week’s episodes! No End Times, but we do preview a couple of new songs from Ten Foot Pole’s latest album, Escalating Quickly, which is dropping May 10th. There is a quick movie league update, and Bobo finally shows some enthusiasm. All this and more on this week’s episode!
Episode 7 has us chatting with Dennis Jagard from Ten Foot Pole about being a dad, life on the road as a sound engineer with Weird Al and the golden rule.
We take it back to the days of shuttered lanterns and bugbears

At risk of over stating it, Brian Walsby is the Rosette Stone of indie/ alternative music. It is through him that we are given greater understanding of how the various seemingly disconnected scenes are interconnected. Dennis Jagard is the guitar player/Lead Vocalist in 'Ten Foot Pole' as well as a sound man for artists like Prince and Jimmy Eat World to name a few. Dennis and I met when our bands shared a tour bus in Europe for 30 days in 2004. We became fast friends when we both realized that we were band dads in nature and shared the same ethics regarding music.
