My Story Talk 28 Activities Beyond Europe Welcome to Talk 28 in our series where I'm reflecting on God's goodness to me throughout my life. Looking back on it, I suppose I travelled fairly widely during the time we were at Mattersey. Apart from the many places in Europe we visited, I found myself on the Lord's business in America, Africa, and Asia, though never, incidentally in Australia. These visits, which cover the period from 1982 to 2004, were either in connection with the Pentecostal World Conference which later became the Pentecostal World Fellowship or preaching trips The Pentecostal World Conference My reason for attending the Pentecostal World Conference in Oslo in 1992 was that, because it was being held in Europe, the PEF presidium had decided to hold a committee meeting there at the same time. Eileen and I had visited Norway for the first time two years previously where we had enjoyed a holiday there before attending the EPTA conference in Lillehammer. This time, however, I was alone. During one of the mornings, I was sitting high up at the back of the auditorium and was surprised to hear my name mentioned at the close of the session. Dr Ray Hughes was asking me to see him on the platform during the coffee break. I couldn't imagine why but, of course, went to see him as requested. This was not quite as easy as it sounds because to get there I had to make my way through hundreds of people who were exiting the venue and all walking in the opposite direct from me. When I finally got there, he said to me, Oh David, as you know, you've been appointed to the Advisory Committee, and we'd like you to sit on the platform with us for the rest of the conference. Well, I knew nothing about this appointment. It was a complete surprise and when a year or so later I was elected to the Presidium it was an even greater honour. The 1995 conference was particularly special because it was held in Jerusalem. And this time Eileen came with me. We had never been in Israel before and we made sure that we saw as many of the biblical sites as possible. We had booked a tour with a Christian company and travelled in a small coach with a group of Brits who were attending the conference, and it was there that we met Ivor and Jan Maddison who were pastoring the church in Ollerton, not far from Mattersey. (We got to know Jan very well when she came to live in Brixham after Ivor had died). The tour involved a visit to Tiberias on the shore of Lake Galilee from where we visited Capernaum, took a trip across the lake in a boat like those used by Jesus' disciples and from which he calmed the storm, and had a meal on the lake shore eating ‘St. Peter's fish', so called because of the occasion where he found a coin in the fish's mouth. We went to Caesarea Philippi, a beautiful place, where Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ. We visited the place in the river Jordan where Jesus is believed to have been baptised, and further south we had a brief stop in Jericho. We travelled up from there to Jerusalem in time for the conference and of course visited Bethlehem and all the places you would expect, many of which have been spoilt by centuries of tradition and tourism. Eileen got to see Nazareth, but I missed the trip because I had to be in a presidium meeting. Highlights in Jerusalem were the Garden of Gethsemane, and the via dolorosa. But without a doubt the visit to the garden tomb was by far the most moving. It may or may not have been the actual site of Jesus' burial and resurrection, although I like to think that it was, but it was certainly a powerful reminder of the truth – Jesus is not here, he is risen! And who could forget the visit to the Upper Room and joining with other Pentecostals in speaking in tongues as the first disciples did in Acts 2? After the conference we visited Masada, floated on the Dead Sea where it's impossible to sink, and went to the cave where the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered. It was there, I think, that we paid an Arab to let us take a photo of his camel! We also visited a museum where we saw a number of ancient seals, some dating back over three thousand years, and reminding us of Paul's teaching that after we believed we were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. So during the trip there was much to remind us of Bible times and the truth of God's word. We were glad that we went but have never had a wish to return. Eileen is now enjoying the heavenly Jerusalem and one day I will join her there. And all because of Jesus! In 1998 the conference was held in Seoul, Korea, at the vast Yoido Full Gospel Church led by David Yongghi Cho, numbering at the time some 720,000 members. We had at first thought to extend the trip and visit China and the Great Wall. Eileen had always had a great interest in China, but when it turned out that the visit was not feasible she decided not to accompany me. I had met Cho at the London world conference in 1976 when I gave him a copy of my book, Know the Truth, later to be renamed You'd Better Believe It. I was naturally interested to visit his church and to experience one of the Sunday services there. There were, I think, six services each Sunday to accommodate the vast numbers. Everything had to be organised and left little if any room for the exercise of spiritual gifts like tongues, interpretation and prophecy which we might expect in a smaller congregation. Presumably there was opportunity for such gifts to be experienced in their many home groups. The final meeting of the conference was held in the Olympic Stadium where it was estimated that over 100,000 people were in attendance. I was privileged to read from the scriptures, which I found a little difficult on this occasion as I had somehow mislaid my glasses on a visit to the Prayer Mountain and was using a pair borrowed from an English brother who was staying in the same hotel as me. During the conference it was decided to hold the next presidium meeting in Hawaii in 1999. The reasoning seemed to be that as Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean it was not too far from either Asia or America. However, no one considered the inconvenience for anyone travelling from Europe! But as I was the only European on the presidium I could hardly object. So that is how I came to fly to Hawaii, a 24 hour journey each way, for a three-day committee meeting! The purpose was to plan for the 2001 conference which was to be held in Los Angeles. Fortunately, the meeting finished a day early and I had a day to spare before flying home. This gave me the opportunity to take a minibus tour of the island, visiting among other things Pearl Harbour and a tropical rain forest. I also experienced macadamia nuts for the first time and learnt that the name comes a Scot named Macadam who first discovered them and who also invented tarmac! Eileen was able to travel with me for the Los Angeles conference in 2001 and in the week before the conference we both enjoyed a short holiday staying with Brian and Ann Lee, old friends from Retford who had emigrated to La Verne just a few miles from L.A. It was good to renew fellowship with them and to preach in their local AoG church. At the conference itself I had been asked to chair a theological seminar at which Roger Stronstad, a Canadian scholar whose writings I greatly admired, was to be one of the speakers. The subject was the baptism in the Holy Spirit, and at the last minute, I was asked to be the other speaker deputising for an American brother who was unable to attend. I was so grateful to the Lord for the opportunity he gave me to speak at the conference and the help he gave me to do so. The last world conference we attended was in South Africa in 2004. This conference was in many ways different from all the others. In the opening meeting the delegates were warmly welcomed by the President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeke who had been deputy president under Nelson Mandela from 1994 to 1999 and served as president from '99 to 2008. Eileen felt particularly honoured as she was seated right next to him on the front row! But much more important was the fact that so many participants were from African countries, and the meetings were marked by the freedom of expression so typical of African worship and so different from the formalism we have seen elsewhere even in some Pentecostal meetings. It was something we were to see much more of in later visits to Africa in the years that followed my retirement from Mattersey, After the conference we hired a car and travelled to the Africa School of Missions founded by Paul Alexander, my newly appointed successor at Mattersey. We broke our journey at Witbank where I preached at two services on the Sunday, travelling on to ASM on the Monday where we were warmly welcomed by the staff. They asked us if we were planning to visit the Kruger National Park, and, when we said no, one of them kindly phoned a relative who worked there and arranged for us to stay for a few nights at Skukuza, one of the safari lodges in the park. Our accommodation was in an extremely comfortable one-room apartment that looked something like a traditional African hut with a thatched roof. The restaurants served excellent food which was relatively inexpensive and offered views overlooking the wonderful wildlife. We enjoyed every moment we spent at Skukuza, especially when a company of mongooses ran across the compound in single file right in front of us. But of course it was driving outside the safari park that we saw most of the wildlife. It was early spring in the southern hemisphere, and the leaves had only just begun to appear on the trees and bushes, making it easy to spot whatever animals and birds happened to be in the area. We travelled miles each day, taking care to obey the instruction never to get out of the car except in specially designated safe places. We were also glad that the car had good air-conditioning because it was often important to ensure the windows were closed. On one occasion we stopped to watch a group of baboons in the road just ahead of us and I closed the electric windows. However, I had momentarily forgotten that, unlike our car at home, our hire car had electric windows only at the front. We only realised the back ones were still open when a large baboon leapt in onto the back seat attempting to steal our lunch! I turned round and shouted in a loud voice – Eileen later told the grandchildren that Grandad roared like a lion – and thank God, the animal obeyed! Both we and our lunch were safe. After that, we never opened the back windows again for the rest of the trip. Apart from that, the remainder of our stay there was relatively uneventful. We loved it so much that when I was back at ASM a few years later I borrowed a car and went back there. Our visit was far too short but was the highlight of our trip to South Africa. We were particularly grateful that in such a short time we had managed to see the big five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo, a wonderful ending to our last Pentecostal World Conference. Preaching trips But of course my travels beyond Europe were not limited to my role in the Pentecostal World Fellowship. There were preaching trips as well. At first, these centred on the USA where I combined preaching with raising funds for our building project. An American AoG pastor named Paul Curtis had a burden for Britain came to see me on one of his trips to England and said he would like to help raise funds for our new Hall of Residence. So at Paul's invitation, in February '82 I spent ten days preaching in AoG churches in North Carolina with a view to returning in mid-May for a period of four weeks. I enjoyed the trip in February, and the Lord blessed my ministry, and about £1400 was raised towards our building fund. Hopefully the trip in May-June would be more fruitful in that respect. I was looking forward to it and had bought my flights in advance as that was more economical. But only a few weeks before the trip Paul contacted me to apologise and tell me that he had been unable to arrange a suitable itinerary for me and that he felt that the time was not right. But I had already bought non-refundable tickets for flights both ways! And I had already planned the timetable at Mattersey to enable me to be away from the college throughout that period! After praying about it I contacted John and Sara Miles who were by then living in Naperville, Illinois, and asked their advice. Sara suggested that I was in a situation like Abraham's when he set off not knowing where the Lord would lead him. So I used the air tickets to fly as far as New York and paid the extra to fly on to Chicago where John and Sara collected me from O'Hare airport on May the 18th. When I arrived they told me that they had contacted Richard Dortch, the Superintendent of the Illinois AoG, and that he was arranging an itinerary for me around Illinois where I was already known through my three visits back in the seventies. I stayed with John and Sara until 6th July preaching in churches in the Chicago area on Sundays and Wednesday evenings. These included Yorkville, Palatine, Dekalb, Naperville, and Lake Villa as well as Chicago itself. I also spent a day at Wheaton College, had lunch with John, who was now a French professor there, and with Peter Kuzmic from Yugoslavia, and saw the wardrobe made famous in C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. On Thursday the 27th I flew via Denver to San José, California, to visit Bethany Bible College. Dick Foth, who had been the pastor in Urbana where I first preached on my visit to the States in 1972, was now the President of Bethany and I had a couple of useful days with him visiting the college and comparing notes. I had an interesting experience flying back on the Saturday. The weather was extremely hot and everyone else was dressed in shorts and T shirts. I, however, was still wearing my jacket. As I was waiting in the queue to check in, an airline official approached me and said, Excuse me, sir. I wonder if you can help me. We're overbooked in Economy Class, and as you seem to be a suitable gentleman, I wonder if you would mind travelling First Class. Would I mind! It was the first and only time I have travelled First Class and, although I could never justify the expense of doing so, I was more than happy to enjoy the experience at no extra cost to myself. On 6th June I left Naperville and flew to Urbana where I preached on the Sunday and where my old friend Jim Hall was now the pastor. The next day I flew to Springfield MO to visit two other AoG colleges, Evangel College and Central Bible College, as well as the Graduate School located in the AoG Headquarters in Boonville Avenue. When I returned to Urbana on the Friday, Jim Hall had arranged an English Evening where I talked about the spiritual state of the UK and taught the Americans how to make a proper cup of tea! On the Sunday morning, I preached in Normal, where Marvin Foulkes was the pastor. I had preached for Marvin back in '72 and '74 and was delighted to see how much the church had grown since then. In the evening, I preached in Decatur from where I flew back to Chicago ready for my return to England the next day. Looking back on it, I felt that the trip had been very worthwhile, not just because it raised about $5000 for our college, but because of the opportunity it gave me to visit and learn from other AoG colleges and expand my vision for Mattersey. I was very grateful to Richard Dortch for making it possible. A year later I met Dortch in Portugal at the opening of the new chapel in the Bible College in Fanhões, near Lisbon, and he shared with me that he was soon likely to become the Executive Vice-President at PTL, the centre of Jimmy and Tammy Bakker's ministry, and he invited me to preach for a week on their TV station. This took place in 1985 and during our stay Eileen, Jonathan, and I were treated to the luxurious accommodation of the Heritage Grand Hotel. And we came home with a significant sum of money for our building fund. We were, of course, very grateful for their hospitality and generosity, but I confess I was not really comfortable about so much luxury. Coming to terms with the cultural differences and levels of poverty or prosperity we see around the world is by no means easy. The riches of America were in stark contrast with the poverty I was to see in India less than a year later. But I'll tell you about that next time.

"This set was recorded at dawn on a Sunday morning, closing out a long day of incredibly inspiring music. I hadn't gone to bed yet and was so locked into the sound that by the time I started playing, I was already deep in a trance. I took over from Formant Value & Simone Bauer's live set, picking up the momentum where they left off, then gradually brought the BPM down, leaning into psychedelic textures and trance-laced rhythms. Those two hours flew by - we were all locked in. It's a rare kind of magic to do what you love in a place like Refractor, where most artists stay for the whole weekend to immerse themselves in the community and support each other. Music has this way of creating deep connections, and you could feel that throughout the festival. We were part of something unique. And the crowd... what can I say. Even after a full day of dancing, they stayed with me through the entire set, joining me on the sonic journey I was crafting to carry us into the morning." It's a rare treat to share this recording from two of my favorite powerhouse selectors, Rotterdam's Nelly and Oslo's Marius Bø, who linked behind the decks at Nantes' renowned Macadam last December for a night curated by club resident Bambi. The result, as expected, soars. Witness a three-hour cyclone of blistering, mind-shattering divinations capturing these two in their finest element, an uplifting of the psyche leaving no layer unturned. Is this our longest title ever? First, Indy reviews several basketball documentaries including; Bill Russell: Legend, Bad Boys, I Hate Christian Laetner, This Magic Moment, Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson, Malice at the Palace, and we have a not so brief divergence into the role of Allen Iverson in America's cultural battlefields. Then, Samantha recommends Star Crossed: A True WWII Romeo and Juliet Love Story in Hitler's Paris by Heather Dune Macadam & Simon Worrall. Finally, we get ready to watch Troll 2, the best worst movie! It stars Michael Stephenson, George Hardy, Connie McFarland, and Jason Wright. The plot follows Joshua Waits as he tries to save his family after the spirit of his deceased grandfather warns him that the town of Nilbog, where the family are spending their vacation, is inhabited by goblins who turn people into plant matter to eat them. Although produced under the original title Goblins, American distributors marketed it as a sequel to the 1986 horror film Troll. However, the two are unrelated and Troll 2 features goblins rather than trolls. The film was produced by Filmirage; development was rife with difficulties, largely due to the language barrier between the Italian-speaking crew and English-speaking cast, and producer Joe D'Amato's approach to low-budget filmmaking. It was released on October 12, 1990 by Epic Productions, and some considered it to be one of the worst movies ever made. In subsequent years, the film has gained a cult following. Though it was generally viewed as a poorly made horror film, the filmmakers stated that it was "always intended to be a comic film." Stephenson later directed the critically acclaimed 2009 documentary Best Worst Movie about the production and subsequent popularity of Troll 2.

In this episode, Mike discusses circumstantial evidence and alternate theories to guilt that may inferentially arise, even without an accused testifying. Just when does an inference cross the line from the speculative to the rational? Does common sense have anything to do with it? Or will any conceivable hypothetical or imaginative conclusion inconsistent with guilt suffice in raising a reasonable doubt? And how can understanding the inference drawing process prompt you to be a better investigator? Examples referenced — R. v. Dautruche, 2024 ONCA 426, R. v. Williams-Senior, 2024 ONCA 175, R. v. As a producer and senior editor of NPRs "All Things Considered" for more than a decade, Alison helped shepherd that show's coverage of one financial crisis, two wars and three presidential elections. She then became NPR's storytelling guru which meant she guided some of the best radio and podcast talents in the world to become better at narrative storytelling. Today she is a sought after freelance audio editor whose work could be heard on such in-depth journalistic podcast series as "The 13th Step", which tells of how women seeking to overcome drug addiction routinely became victims of sexual abuse by the very residential treatment staff that were supposed to help them, and the podcast, "544 Days" about journalist Jason Rezaian's imprisonment in an Iranian jail while international real politics swirled around his life or death situation.Alison works behind the scenes, she's rarely on mic but that hasn't stopped her talent from shining through. She was awarded a Nieman fellowship at Harvard and "Believed", the podcast she worked on about Larry Nassar, the former Olympics and college gymnastic coach who abused hundreds of young women, won the Peabody, duPont-Columbia, Scripps-Howard, and Dart awards.

JULY 25- TODAY'S READING FROM THE ONE YEAR BIBLE- 2 CHRONICLES 14:1-16:14; ROMANS 9:1-21; PSALM 19:1-14; PROVERBS 20:1 Commentary written and read by Pastor K. MacAdam

Today I had the joy of interviewing my good friend Chelsea MacAdam about homelessness! Chelsea is the Community Outreach Director for Oaks Village. Oaks is a nonprofit in Monroe, Michigan that works to “rebuild our community, restore families and repurpose individuals.” On any given night, there are 190 homeless people on the streets of Monroe county. The team at Oaks works to feed, house, provide medical care, connect resources with, & simply love the people of Monroe!November is Homeless Awareness month in Michigan! We discuss several key points, including ways to support your community, the barriers people face while accessing social services, and removing the stigma surrounding seeking support. We dive into things well-intended people do that are not actually very helpful, along with how to be mindful of the accessibility of nonprofits you're donating to! Most importantly, we talk about honoring the holiness of people experiencing homelessness & how building relationships with others drives us to want more for all of our neighbors. This work is imperative, especially as the weather gets colder. May our increased awareness lead to increased advocacy! To get involved at Oaks Village, or to utilize their services, visit their website: https://www.oaksvillage.net/ Here is the link to their Donation Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1LDQXRRXP43O3?ref=cm_sw_em_r_un_un_lOHv9JbX3CwsX&fbclid=PAAaZAfIHB5SIjK15Qc6pu0yHQaUsgXarHEQblPdmW-B28K3TT0Ca4iVzbLiE

Andy MacDougall's guests this episode are Billy Perkins, an Austin-based artist, and Dan MacAdam, an artist/printer from Chicago. Billy is a classic illustrator, inspired by comic book artists from his youth. Dan uses his own photographs of decrepit post-industrial buildings and machines scattered around Chicago as the basis of his unique work. They look gritty, but the technique he has evolved is anything but; it incorporates a mix of digital manipulation in prepress to separate colors and add elements like type and band names that fit the overall vibe. Both design posters for a variety of bands and performers, many you might recognize. Listen to their stories as they prepare for Flatstock 77 at the famed SXSW festival and conference in Austin, Texas. Read the accompanying column with images of Perkins' and MacAdam's artwork here.
When Covid First HitYou know, last year on this day is when it officially became a disaster of the world, right? In other words: everybody's shutting down. You didn't know what you were going to do with cars. Some people said they were smart enough to understand that they should keep them.I was stupid enough to know that we're definitely staying current to the market so we are selling. And we did exactly that. We stayed current throughout the disaster…What materialized during the past 12 monthsand then came out the other side to be the brightest days in the history of the wholesale business, right?Where:if you were a seller you couldn't make a mistake, if somebody paid you to make a mistake, you couldn't do it. You could be Stevie Wonder and just randomly buy anything on four wheels, bring it through a block. And if you had no sale that it could only be because you need to get I would call it admitted to an insane asylum. And as long as you could get them, you could make money. What's Happening NowSo what we got going on now is, I would say, version two. It's version two, where we're watching coast to coast, wherever we're pricing, buying and selling cars. We're watching cars, a higher percentage of cars that are bringing way more money... Since our data shows us in Accu-trade where the car has been, the pecker tracks of that vehicle, since it was born. We're seeing way more cars that are selling wholesale for more than they were asking retail last year. Last year, you know, retail price, $53 G ca brings $57,000 on the auction block today. What this is doing to the buy/sell guides - If you were going to do some sort of an intellectual study of things and you'd come up that there must be something wrong with the data, cause this is not possible. Somebody doesn't know what they're doing. That's a pontificators point of view. Cause a pontificator are not traders, they're not buyers and sellers. They're not active. They're not on the field. They're in the stands. And they learn throughout their classes of graduate level statistics, so forth. There's certain norms and there's anomalies and there's all kinds of other things. And when, when something doesn't make any sense, they throw the outliers out. We see that actually on MMR. In other words, the stars (*) next to the results are outliers. Outliers mean they brought something that the computer in the AI and the pontificator can't understand. So in order to come to a number that makes sense, they've got to throw them out because you can't explain it. Therefore it becomes outside the data set that the people pontificators use to tell everybody what's good and what's bad and why it went up one quarter of a 10th of a percent.. Which translates into what I would call noise. I guess initially you would say that they do that for the people that buy and sell cars would have some guidance in terms of desirability and where the market direction is going. But it turns out to be only good for other pontificators and has nothing to do with a trader. A person who's their job and their livelihoods based on understanding how they're going to find cars, how they're getting rid of cars, why they get rid of cars and where they do it. All the rest of the things that have started since the beginning of time. Now what Accu-trade does as we look at this..., and, you know, obviously we are involved with buying/selling thousands of cars and we're up a couple hundred thousand appraisals a day here. We're actually in the middle of something that if you're going to talk to a trader or a person like a used car manager, a used car dealer, or somebody whose livelihood is directly related... Or a dealer principal, whose investment is their portfolio of cars, right? They also have 401ks and stock accounts with professionals to tell them how to buy and sell stock. It's the exact scenario. In other words I think what we extract and what we observe, and then hopefully what we'd be able to help people understand are the anomalies that don't make any sense, but they have to make sense because otherwise you become an in lane pontificator, even if you're not in lane. The Self-Defense Mechanism of In-lane PontificatorsSo what I mean by that is this Sean-ie. You've been in the auction business a long time. So I think you'll understand this pretty clearly. When a car gets up in the wind and a couple people lock up, three, four people are now locking up on it on the internet and it's banging away and a floor could be, you know, 27 G and a car brings 33 G. You can see where CarMax quit, you can see where Carvana quit. You can see who really is the best end user. And then everybody starts saying, “I don't like grapes”, because you can't reach them. You say you “don't like grapes”.No, the answer would be, “Oh man, he stepped on his balls on that car. Boy, what's he going to do with that? He, he, he killed himself.” Okay. The pontificator, the in-lane pontificator at that point is basically justifying why they don't have the ability to understand why the car brought so much money. And that's like a self defense mechanism, right? “Oh my God, what's he going to do with that car?”First of all, what's the difference. Now there's a willing buyer or a group of willing buyers ran a car to a point where they all got sick of bidding and they don't see how they could actually find a better end user than the person that actually was still standing. The Buying Algorithms at WorkNow, you're starting to see this. I'm watching it very clearly, right? Where I could tell you exactly where certain algorithms from the bigger buyers are set to buy. They're bidding on just about every car. So therefore the pontificator in the lane, once again, say “oh Jeeze they're buying all the cars' ' They're not, I think we covered that in a previous session. No, they're not. What they're doing is putting it on cruise control and ending their bid at a point where they're happy to own it.And therefore, if they own it, when I look at the statistics, it's rare that the car brought anywhere close to too much money. They bought a car for what it was worth. It could be a little muddy because of equipment or dust or that, or whatever, but they bought a car worth of candy and they need fillers. So they're happy to do that, right?“Fillers” are cars that actually are in the middle of the bell curve that fill the holes up. That's not a point car, and that's not a trick car. Something with, you know, too many miles with a little story to it. But it's so cheap. Anybody in the world can sell it to a, let's call it a different demographic of buyer. You follow me?If you ain't got them, you can't sell them. When you think about it, Seanie and anybody else, that's been in our business for a period of time, the pontificator who loves to throw stones at the person that turned out to be the best end-user. You know what they do?They go home with a car. And you know something, it's really weird how this works. If you ain't got them, you can't sell them. You can't talk about how much cars are bringing to a customer when they walk in the door and they're looking to buy one. If you ain't got them, you definitely can't sell them. You got to have them. Transact with Confidence but it all comes down to this...Now, what that really means is it's all about, you know, when we talk about our tools to commoditize the VIN, and we give you all the statistics and reality and insurance policies around that. So you can transact with confidence. What it really means is the market really will dictate what the value of a VIN is. And, and by the way when you look back and forth to swing of the rhythm of the market in different categories of cars.It gets to a point like we are right now on the anniversary of disaster, we are on the anniversary of the second birth of the craziest, most unexplainable, incredibly dumb thing in the world, which is all based, obviously on what?... you guessed it supply and demand. You follow me. Nobody's Coming in to Buy your Cement Parking BlockersIn other words, when they're aint' none, and you got to have them, cause it's really hard as piss to sell cement parking blockers, you can't sell them, but you can't drive them. So nobody's coming in to buy your cement parking blocker. You see, you gotta have something instead of the cement parking blockers therefore it's called a car, right? And if you ain't gotta ‘em, you ain't gonna sell them.Any vehicle that falls into any category, that's one that you like, and there's a bunch of other people the same, and there aren't enough of them... like a big shock. They go and bring more money. You see what I'm saying to you?The Books Don't Catch UpAnd, and so then the, you know, the pontificators also say, “well, you know, the books don't catch up” . “ NADA won't let me finance it.” That's, that's an inevitable thing. It's kinda like when market reports don't catch up and you've got a two, three, four week period where they can't catch up with the real market. So cars are bringing it to three g, four g over five, eight, ten G over, right. It's not unusual to see one bringing 10 G over whatever they brought 30, 60, and 90 days ago. And the thinner traded units. When you look at one, put it in Acc-trade, look to see where it was last year or the year before, two years ago. It's not unusual to see a 2017 that retailed for $49,000 in 2017, bring in $52 500 today, and a retail for less than three years ago. It's not unusual at all. Now, is it a shock? Is it like, well, “that's impossible. That's crazy. What are they going to do with that car” Pontificator. You can Watch Somebody else do Business, or You can do Business Well, what you'll do is you can watch somebody else do business, or you can do business. In other words right now. And it looks like, I mean, again, I'm not going to pontificate when new cars are showing up. When people started having inventory again. But I can tell you one thing, if you wanted to buy a new Rolls Royce, you couldn't find one. You want to know why? They're all gone. And you know, when they're getting more, never They're all going to China. So in other words, if you want one, you are going to have to pay up. So that means they could have retailed two years ago for X, but now it's going to wholesale for the same price. We see it over and over and over again. Now that don't mean one that's all hamburgered up chopped up, you know, wrapped and nine different people have owned it and that no, no, no, not, not that one. Cause that turns into a pure and absolute trashcan. So trashcans, aren't cars, trashcans are trashcans. Right. And some of them are on wheels, and that has a home. But it just ain't going to be the one where we're saying in the general marketplace that we're looking at right now. Like a human owned it, and it took care of it a little tiny bit. And now it shows back up in the marketplace and they bring too much money...if you're a pontificator. What they're actually bringing is market value. Does that make sense to you, Sean?Did you Pay too Much?So at your auction yesterday, when dealers were like paying up a little bit here or there on a car and the other guys are looking around, making goofy faces, like they're eating sour grapes or something.Did you hear that yesterday at all? Sean, in your auction?“You hear the crowd murmur”“Oh my God, how did he step on his thing? Oh my God, what's he doing?” Okay, I'll take exactly what he's going to do. It happens to us on a weekly basis, the car, it looks like it was brought like Mars type moonshot type money dealer says, “Jeezus, I paid a lot for that car.” Really? My answer always is, “could you please bring it back? I never would want you to pay...” “Oh no, I can't bring it back. I sold the b$t¢h.”So then the question becomes, did you pay too much? No, the answer is, of course you didn't pay too much. You paid arbitrage market value. Not Selling it to the BottomAnd you had enough brains to not sell it to the bottom of the three other cars that are maybe similar, maybe not. That you have to push a little. “So I can't sell cars, if I can't be number one, number six of the ranking of 27, can't do it” So that's where you get to pontification. In other words, data and processes that cause brain freeze. And it also puts common sense on the back burner. And the minute you put common sense on the back burner you've actually committed intellectual suicide. So in other words, in our half knucklehead business that we're in right? “Only halfway educated people, you know. Could have been a drug dealer. If I wasn't a car dealer.” you know, the personality types, the “larceny” that's in everybody's heart and all the rest of it. Right? You can say all those pejorative things, right? But the fact is common sense really is central to anybody that you could point to and say, this is a guy that actually has what they're doing. Now, if you give the information that's necessary for those folks to make good decisions, you're actually filing their pencil down to be more effective. And the more effective they are, they don't spend time worrying about what somebody else is doing with the car because they're actually focused on not selling Macadam, not selling pavement. The Market OutlookWe're going to be in a tight market for the next, I'm going to say for sure, two months. It's probably going to be a four month period where we're back to the euphoria of last year's May, June, July, and August, where “there's no way this could ever keep going” because it was completely crazy. Right? But it kept going. Well, you know, in December, we started going back almost to reality and you know, the average sellers back to “no-saling” half or three quarters of their cars. But at this point, if you're presenting your stuff correctly at whatever level you're going to get surprisingly good money for your vehicles. It basically comes all the way back to - “how's the market?” The market is starving for inventory. Cater to Your Buyers Today I'll tell you the other thing that's happening right now, with these acquisition things, where you're gonna go on social media and you're going to FaceTime with the seller and you're going to do all kinds of things, right? That over the next month, two months, three months is going to actually rebound to the point where everybody's going to try to understand how:They're going to have their own buying center.Who's dedicated to paying off?Making sure it's a great experience? And get a good Yelp from the consumer that you bought the car from, that had a lack of equity. And now you're going to do all kinds of things and tricks to make sure he gets the car and he's happy. And he gives you a good review, right? That's going to be over the next month, two months, three months. That's all going to pop back up because as people say, I can't go to the auction and pay these prices. I can't do that. Digging into Service DriveThe only alternative would be to dig into your service drive. And we're not trying to over talk about what we have built for that to happen with the service drive tool and Accu-Trade, right? In other words, next level everything, when you're talking about how we're going to knowwho the customer is,what the car's worth, what's broken on the carand understand how you craft your conversation. If it's a car you're going to keep. If it's a car you're going to wholesale because you didn't have an opportunity because it needs $4,300 in the shop and they can't afford to do it. Now you're actually going to acquire it and push it to one of these knucklehead marketplaces and pick up your $2200 profit, right? Or be able to acquire it. And with enough room in it, do your repair. So you're no longer moaning with your service manager, how he's trying to ruin you because you know, you're trying to make a profit. And all he wants to do is ruin you with his RO in the shop. You see? So, I think what we're going to see when we say “what's the market conditions like?”Flipping Rocks and Looking for SalamandersWe're back to, we got to start finding out if your neighbor wants to sell their car, go on facebook, to the things with Craigslist, all of the things that you would normally do. Start flipping rocks, looking for salamanders, right? That's back on full swing. And again, not to be a Hawker here, but that's exactly what our tool is built for to sit on those platforms, to be able to not only recognize, but to act on. Leveraging our tool in this particular use case to know:where it iswhen it's beenhow long ,who sold it?Look at the pedigree when it came backwhen the last time was listedHow long it sat there, understand what the accident wasthe equipment and all of the rest of itThe means to know if you're going to call Mr. and Mrs. McGillicutty and make them an offer they can't refuse. Summing Up - It's Time to Clean OutYou see what I'm saying to you? You see what I'm saying to you? Sean-ie?I don't know if that's a I would say is a comprehensible understanding of where we are in a market. The market's nuts it's completely off the wall, goofy, nuts, wacko, crazy, unbelievable. Where, when you're buying trucks from Enterprise, which you could never buy, it's like who in God's name would buy a truck from Enterprise and you show up at an auction and it clips off 2,700. You see, take another look at your Enterprise trucks that have never had an internet look and think about placing that little baby under a hammer, see how it works out for you. You see, because they've skyrocketed not because they're spectacular,or have a good look to them. Of course, they have a horrible look, tiny little wheels, got nothing inside, but you see at this time when you have a complete fever in the marketplace. Oh, no question about it. Now's the time to clean that out. It's time to clean it out and make yourself a wholetail profit. And in many cases, I'll reiterate it more than you're asking for the car retail. Absolutely. The broader arbitrage market will reveal it to the other best end or better end users.Thank you to anybody that takes the time to get bored with these conversations. Have Fun everyone.
