Dr Danielle Arabena yarns with Dr Claudia Collins who works as a senior medical officer and lead clinician at Yulu-Burri-Ba Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health on Minjerribah, Stradbroke Island. Having grown up in Far North Queensland, Claudia shares how her journey with med school and her work as a doctor sparked her passion with Indigenous and rural health. Claudia also shares some of the simple yet powerful teachings from community elders.Claudia is currently working as Senior Medical Officer and Lead Clinician at Yulu-Burri-Ba Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health - serving the communities connected to Minjerribah (NSI), and the bayside communities around Capalaba and Wynnum.She is also a current Training Advisor for the Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway, navigating career pathways for rural primary care registrars across the state of Queensland.She has been living in Brisbane since 2018, but working within the Indigenous Health sector in regional and rural QLD since 2013 – as both an ACRRM registrar and fellowed Rural Generalist. She is a passionate advocate for Indigenous Health: particularly with regards to providing culturally appropriate gold-standard care, and working towards health equality for our First Nations People. In this episode, I'm joined by Maddie Alexander Grout, who, having worked in the headhunting and recruitment world for over a decade will be sharing plenty of insights for the job seeking community on that front.She has also gone through a number of business ownership faces, is very, very active on LinkedIn and champions being a mum.After graduating from university, Maddy began working as a Training Advisor for British Gas, before moving back down South and falling into recruitment, with it being the only industry she felt she could put her sales skills to use without selling anything! After working for one company for five years, she spent the next few years job hopping, eventually setting up her own recruitment company before moving back into internal recruitment. Since starting a family she has set up a number of successful businesses including my VIP card, which has won 14 awards in the last 2.5 years and having just gone nationwide, has the potential to be worldwide in the next six months.  In this episode Maddy talks openly about her mental health struggles, her passion for helping others and recently franchising out her business. Sean Hykey and I met through a Gary Vee Instagram post. He was relentless in positive responses to what seemed like hundreds of people commenting on Gary’s post. So I DM’d him. And we became friends. His content was undeniably vulnerable, inspirational, motivational and pure. Everything keto, fit, rapping, and positivity. How was he this comfortable with himself? Spending time with yourself borders confinement in prison. It removes all distraction where you are left with nothing but yourself. For Sean, it was just that. It took time in prison blocking out all the noise to understand his purpose in life. Growing up, selling drugs was cool. So was school. Selling ounces of weed per day with perfect attendance in high school provided the perfect contrast until years later it caught up. We talked about purpose, self-worth and being a worthy person, distractions, habits and the people we choose to surround ourself with, transformation, life during and after prison, Body by Jake, fitness, becoming a man, mindset, gift of connection, self-love, motivation, affirmations, the genuine life, and waking up knowing every day that you have to grind twice as hard now in order to get where you want to be due to your past. How fitting this was my first REMOTE podcast. I can’t think of anyone I’d rather spend time with. We are all nothing more than regular human beings with mistakes in our past. Becoming a better version of ourself every day, we can be worthy of more than a criminal. Leaving a lot on the table of what could be accomplished, this is by no means an excuse. While not all of us have lived in prison, many of us live in one mentally. If you decide to give up and do nothing then that part of you might as well stay in prison. In your comfort zone, you’re locked up. Returning is being institutionalized.
