HEAVY sat down with vocalist Tom Englund to find out more, starting by asking how he feels about the album's impending release."Great. Honestly, really, really good," he smiled. "The first reactions are coming in with a few albums of the month and a bunch of great reviews. The reception from from the fans have been stellar. So far, we have released two different kinds of songs from this album; one we released prior to the album announcement called Oxygen which is an obnoxious, dark, brooding, complex song at six minutes and 20 seconds. And then we released the song called Architects of The New Weave, which is four minutes, straight to the point, sing along heavy metal.So in between those two worlds is where this album lives, which I love. That's the cool thing about being in Evergrey. We we can do pretty much whatever we want and fit everything into the Evergrey package."In the full interview, Tom framed the material as a response to current global events and a perceived loss of compassion, citing the single The World is on Fire as especially timely. He explained production goals: deliver immediate songs that reveal layered, cinematic production over repeated listens, and keep the album concise to avoid the expense of a double-vinyl package. Tom also discussed guest vocalist Michael Stanne, chosen because the melody suited his voice, and acknowledged influence from Gothenburg peers including the late Tomas Lindberg. Tom S Englund är sångare och gitarrist i death metal-bandet Evergrey. Han växte upp i Göteborgs nordöstra förorter och lyssnade mest på Modern Talking och Alphaville innan Europe fick honom att bli hårdrockare. I början av nittiotalet hängde han på klubben Valvet, tillsammans med många av stans blivande death metal-stjärnor, innan han bildade det mörkt melodiska Evergrey 1993. During our chat, discuess what went into the promotional picture where the band is covered in mud and the experience cleaning all that off after the shoot. We also discuss the music video for “Falling From The Sun” and some of the artistic decisions that went into its creation, Looking to the band's future plans, Englund lists the countries Evergrey will be visiting for the first time on their upcoming South American tour. He also shares how he got Adam “Nolly” Getgood involved in the mixing process early on for the new album, how the constellation on the cover artwork has a direct tie-in to the album title, and some of the projects he's currently working on in the world of video games. In our increasingly polarized society, my guest today, Mónica Guzmán, believes that we can't count on institutions to bridge those divides for us - we have to do it one conversation, one person, at a time. Today, we discussed how she got involved in the work of helping people understand each other better and what role her journalism career played in that mission. What a treat to bring you today's conversation with Mónica Guzmán. Mónica is a bridge builder, journalist, and entrepreneur who lives for great conversations sparked by curious questions. She's director of digital and storytelling at Braver Angels, the nation's largest cross-partisan grassroots organization working to depolarize America; host of live interview series at Crosscut; and cofounder of the award- winning Seattle newsletter The Evergrey. She was a 2019 fellow at the Henry M. Jackson Foundation, where she studied social and political division, and a 2016 fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University, where she researched how journalists can rethink their roles to better meet the needs of a participatory public. A Mexican immigrant, Latina, and dual US/Mexico citizen, she lives in Seattle with her husband and two kids and is the proud liberal daughter of conservative parents. Personally, I have been a fan of Mónica and the Braver Angels organization more broadly over the past few years.
