Visit our website: https://arkmedia.org/ This conversation on YouTube: https://youtu.be/O7F7Pq-XI40 Show Notes: Since October 7th, on this podcast we have tried to present Israel's dilemmas and challenges as Israel responded to a genocidal attack from Gaza and what is now a multi-front war. We have tried to do this by talking to Israelis – Israeli journalists, political figures, historians and other thought leaders, and different people from Israel's civil society. We have tried to provide historical context and perspectives from various actors in the U.S.-Israel relationship from both sides of that relationship. We did not think we would still be recording these episodes – with this focus – for one year. And yet, here we are — approaching the one-year anniversary of October 7, which will be regarded as one of the darkest days in Jewish history (and one of the darkest days in the history of Western Civilization). Most of our episodes have been shaped by weekly and daily news developments. But as we approach the one-year anniversary, we wanted to take a step back, and spend extended time with a few of our previous guests and thought leaders who are not our go-to analysts. We asked each one of them to take a longer horizon perspective, to look back at this past year and the year ahead. In each conversation, we will try to understand the larger lessons these guests have learned as we approach this grim milestone. If you are listening to this episode on a podcast app, please note that this series was filmed in a studio and is also available in video form on our YouTube channel. You can find a link here: [Ilan, insert link]. We begin this series with a conversation with Douglas Murray – war journalist, columnist, and bestselling author. We will be dropping one of these long-form conversations with a different guest each week between now and the first couple weeks after 10/07. LINKS: On Sunday, September 8, Douglas Murray will kick off his first ever US Tour with Live Nation. Long before Oct 7, Douglas was a widely read journalist, bestselling author, and one of the most prescient intellectuals in the world. Since Oct 7, he has also become one of the strongest voices for Israel and the Jewish people. Douglas will be sharing experiences from his time in Israel post October 7, including never before seen footage from his time in Israel. On September 8, he will be at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale. On September 10, he'll be at the Fillmore Miami Beach. On September 11, the Warner Theatre in Washington DC. On September 23, The Wiltern in Los Angeles. On September 29, the Beacon Theatre in New York City. And on October 13, Paramount Theatre in Denver. The evening will be filled with great pride for am yisrael and hope for the future. Some shows are sold out or very near sold out. Tickets can be purchased through Live Nation's website: https://shorturl.at/yilaw NEW YORK CITY — September 24 — Join us for the first major live recording of Call Me Back, held at the Streicker Center, co-sponsored by UJA Federation of NY, and featuring Amir Tibon on the official launch date of his book The Gates of Gaza: A Story of Betrayal, Survival, and Hope in Israel's Borderlands. In his new book, Amir tells the gripping story of the Tibon family's ordeal at Kibbutz Nahal Oz on October 7 and the heroic rescue by Amir's father, retired General Noam Tibon. Woven throughout the book is Amir's own expertise as a longtime journalist in Israel and in Washington, the history of Kibbutz Nahal Oz, and the conflict between Israel and Gaza. We are excited to bring this program – with our partners at The Streicker Center and UJA Federation of NY – to the Call Me Back audience. Dave grew up in Bloomsburg, PA, attended West Point, fought in the Gulf War with the 82nd Airborne, then ran a tech software business in Pittsburgh before becoming CEO of Bridgewater Associates. Dave has emerged as one of the strongest pro-Israel voices and allies of the Jewish community this election cycle; his wife Dina was a deputy national security advisor in the White House and one of the architects of the Abraham Accords. We are going to have a fascinating conversation about his trip to Israel in January, what he's seen on the campaign trail and how his experience as a combat veteran informs his perspective on the war in Israel and America's role in the region. In 1996, she returned to Switzerland to join the Zurich Ballet as principal dancer. Davon Carty is a thinker. Davon Carty is a doer. He is sometimes controversial. However he is always willing to teach and assist anyone in need. These days, Davon has rekindled his passion for restoring vintage cars, trucks and SUVs. The brands range from Britain’s Land Rover and Italy’s Alfa Romeo to Sweden’s Saab. He says that the process brings him joy. Just as these cars migrated and ended up in junk yards on the Caribbean island of Anguilla, Davon too has left the island’s shores to as he puts it “find wisdom.” Fifteen years ago Davon saw the need to improve the music industry on Anguilla. Like many others he saw an abundance of raw talent but there was no real structure. With a group of friends and business partners, Davon went to work. In time he would create the band “British Dependency” that would tour internationally and organize for artists to perform at New York’s Radio City Music hall, Washington D.C.’s Warner Theatre and at venues in Morocco, San Andreas Colombia, Guadeloupe and venues in 31 Cities across the United States. He also assisted in getting Anguillian artist Deanna Mussington in position to launch her international career on the British version of X-Factor. You see, Davon by nature is a restorer. Not unlike the cars, he has taken time, patience and has paid strict attention to detail in recrafting not only artists, but by extension an entire industry. Perhaps his ability to encourage people comes from his days as a social worker. In addition to his cars, Davon along with business partners are now headed toward revolutionizing everyone’s perception of what a beach bar is. Seemingly the best is yet to come. This is the story… thus far… Of Davon Carty.
Trump is a wannabe authoritarian who has consistently abused the power of his office and sought to place himself above the law. Trump is also a president who, when faced with a crisis, failed to use the resources of the U.S. government to help the American people. As it turns out, both things are true...but the question is, as we enter the next phase of this crisis and the run up to the election, which Trump will show up? The aspiring tyrant or the quivering mouse? We discuss with Juliette Kayyem and Stephen Walt of Harvard's Kennedy School, with Rosa Brooks of Georgetown Law Center and with Kori Schake of AEI. Josh Brick is a Washington, DC area based graphic designer and photographer and just loves Tedeschi Trucks Band. He has seen them live between 60 and 70 times now, and has been taking photos of them for a while now as well. Derek Trucks with the Allman Brothers was his gateway to TTB, and lets just say the Warner Theatre in DC has more or less become a second home to Josh. joshbrickgraphics.com instagram.com/tedeschitruckspodcast instagram.com/adamchoit tedeschitrucksband.com/

Episode 65: Summer 2018 Concert Recap (Depeche Mode, Chromeo, Erasure, Pretenders, Thomas Dolby, Tom Bailey, Culture Club, The Fixx) The passing of Labor Day marks the unofficial end to summer, and Brian and Sarah decide it's a good time to look back on what they've been calling their "Summer of Concerts." From the beginning of June to the end of August, our hosts had the opportunity to see quite a few concerts, and it should be no surprise to learn many of the artists have been previously discussed on this podcast. Brian and Sarah take turns sharing highlights and memories from each show they attended over the summer. They saw several acts for the first time and also visited some new venues. During their recap, Sarah declares Brian's friend Beil to be a bad luck charm for Depeche Mode shows. She also confesses about how uptight she was during The Pretenders concert, which Brian agrees was for a valid reason. Both Brian and Sarah laugh about the funny things Andy Bell said while he was fighting a cold, and they both gush about the surprising opening song from the Culture Club show. One other topic of discussion in this episode is Sarah's Secret Song snippet. Brian reveals that for the first time, Sarah has finally stumped the audience with the snippet in the previous episode. He plays a longer clip so people can learn what song it was. Sarah then admits she may have overcompensated on this episode's snippet by making it too easy. Time will tell! Depeche Mode at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA (June 3, 2018) Chromeo at the 9:30 Club, Washington, DC (June 11, 2018) The Pretenders at The Fillmore, Silver Spring, MD (June 29, 2018) Styx and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts at the Giant Center, Hershey, PA (June 30, 2018) Erasure at the Warner Theatre, Washington, DC (July 20, 2018) Killer Queen (Queen Tribute Band) at the York Strand Theater, York, PA (July 21, 2018) Tom Bailey at Rams Head On Stage, Annapolis, MD (July 24, 2018) Thomas Dolby at the Sellersville Theatre, Sellersville, PA (August 1, 2018) Tom Bailey and Culture Club at the Stone Pony Summer Stage, Asbury Park, NJ (August 3, 2018) The Fixx at New Hope Winery, New Hope, PA (August 29, 2018) Read more at http://www.permanentrecordpodcast.com/ Visit us at https://www.facebook.com/permrecordpodcast Follow us at https://twitter.com/permrecordpod

Does Colin love D.C.? He's not sure. But earlier this month, he had a good weekend in the nation's capital, where he visited the White House, saw a show, and got close to the Pentagon. They say you shouldn't meet your heroes, but Colin did: comic and podcast guru Marc Maron, who was playing at the Warner Theatre. You'll also hear about graffiti art, a Russian lifeguard, and Colin almost getting killed by an umbrella. It's Amerikan Rambler's super terrific happy D.C. adventure!
We know, we know...the co-hosts said that this episode was supposed to be about the new sci-fi horror, Life, but Minki couldn’t find it to download or stream and Tracy didn’t want to run through the movie alone...so, they’ll do it another time! Instead, they chose to watch two gruesome short horror films, one new and one a bit old yet forever memorable, both delving into the darker side of relationships. Practical SFX in both are downright solid, the first taking 8 hours to get a guy to look like he has no skin on him and the second...well, does the name Tom Savini ring a bell? Tracy, the usual horror short hater, really enjoyed both of these while Minki was a little more critical but overall pleased with the double feature. BONUS: they discuss their Friday night spent with the ladies from MY FAVORITE MURDER at the Warner Theatre in Washington DC. Minki tries to poke holes in Tracy’s fandom but this murderino ain’t having it. Karen and Georgia all day every day.
