I'm Alex Segal, and today we have a really exciting episode to gear up for Shavuot with Esteemed Educator, Speaker and Kallah Teacher Nalini Ibragimov. If you know Nalini, you already know how special she is. I had the privilege of meeting her nearly 12 years ago now when she co-founded a group called Souled, which was a weekly class for young professional women who had been on Israel trips or other programs and wanted to continue their learning while working in New York City. She is a role model to maybe thousands of women at this point through her work on college campuses, as a kallah teacher, someone who prepares brides for their upcoming wedding, Souled and other Jewish organizations. Here's some more formal info for those who aren't familiar with Nailni and her work:Nalini Ibragimov attended Barnard College and Moreshet Institute and studied Jewish history in Touro's master's program. She lived in Israel for four years where she taught in various institutions. For the following five years, she and her husband worked at Brooklyn College for JLIC, a joint program of the OU and Hillel, where she taught and ran various programs for Jewish students on campus. Nalini taught in Ateres Naava seminary in Brooklyn for 15 years until moving to Long Island a few years ago. Additionally, Nalini has taught hundreds of kallot and is a speaker for My Gift of Mikvah. She is also part of the educational staff of Core. Today, Nalini is the director of the Olami Women's House, which provides a living space for young professional women who seek to live in a nurturing, Torah immersive environment. If you want to apply to live there, click here!If you're a young professional woman, you can also hear Nalini speak Wednesday nights at Safra Synagogue on the Upper East Side at 7:30 p.m.Nalini resides in Woodmere, New York with her husband and takes great pride in her six children and the families they are building. Now, let's talk about our episode. When the atrocities of October 7th happened, the world was shocked at the brutalities. People outside of Israel who were not directly affected, went on with their lives. But the Israelis who had no homes to go back to, who were displaced, and had no homes, clothing, food, the bare necessities that a human being needs, those people could not go back to their lives. They desperately needed help. The IDF was not fully prepared with the supplies that the chayalim that were deployed needed. The families of the chayalim became in dire need. People who wanted to help those in need, many did not know where to even begin. And this is where Moshe Bodner jumped right with his renowned leadership skills, and he literally changed the world with arranging for a warehouse so that goods and supplies can be shipped to Israel, and a world-altering unity shabbaton that he is planning.Baila Sebrow, producer and host of The Definitive Rap Show sat down with Woodmere resident, Moshe Bodner to talk extensively about his initiative, how it took off, and it went far and wide. Moshe is an experienced organizational leader who is a senior operating executive with extensive global management in the telecommunications and technology sectors. He has a proven record of achievement, strong leadership skills, effective decision-making capability, and a pragmatic approach to resolving business issues. Moshe Bodner established the Israel Chesed Center immediately following the Simchat Torah Massacre. To date, the operation has sent over 4,000 duffel bags of gear to Israel – approximately 80% for chayalim and the rest for Mefunim (displaced people). The operation also facilitates other chasadim for Israel – shabbat meals for soldiers, gifts and activities for mefunim, and community engagement and volunteering throughout the NY/NJ area. The Israel Chesed Center is spearheading the upcoming Unity Shabbat, which will feature a hoist of activities, volunteering and Chayalim spending Shabbat in various communities. Moshe and his 6 kids lived in Israel for many years and currently has 2 in Israel – a son and daughter-in-law in Israel (she is currently a tank driver on the Syrian border), a son learning in Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and 4 other children currently in NY.

We discussed his upbringing in Crown Heights and his special relationship with his grandfather, the famous poet and chossid Zvi Yair, and how this led to the manner in which he approached his Chumash.

Do you even eat something and think, "this is wayyy too sweet" or "I need to add more salt to these potatoes!? Does this thought match the "too much" and "too little" (all or nothing) range of emotions that sometimes arise throughout your day or at school!?  If this analogy resonates with you and your kiddo, you will want to listen in on this episode as I interview child psychologist, Dr. Chassia Boczko (Dr. B). Thanks Nachum! Playoff action has hit a fever pitch as every postseason has reached at least the Quarterfinal stage. Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, a freshman powers Flatbush over HAFTR in Varsity Basketball, the semifinals are set in Girls Varsity Basketball and in JV Hockey, a battle "for pride" and, no...we're not "Lyin". All that and more, good morning, I'm Elliot Weiselberg Varsity and JV Hockey each had one game played this week, both 1 goal affairs. In TABC, the #1 seeded Storm survived a scare against 8th seed Kushner, defeating the Cobras in Teaneck, but it did not come easy. Tied 1-1 until the 2 minute mark of the third, Storm Junior Shay Fields netted the go-ahead and game-winning goal. In dramatic fashion, the Storm would need to kill off a late Kushner powerplay, but did so and will now await the winner of tomorrow night's contest between #4 YDE and #5 SAR, in Brooklyn. The other contest tomorrow night will feature the 5-Towns rivalry with #2 DRS hosting #7 HAFTR, the winner to face #3 Frisch with a spot in the championships on the line. In JV, the drama took on more of a comeback variety out in the Battle for the Pride between the 5 seed MTA Lions and 4 seed North Shore Lions. North Shore jumped out to a 3-0 lead on 2 goals by sophomore Elijah Kule, but MTA would not go quietly, scoring twice to close the gap. However, they would not get any closer, as North Shore now advances to play TABC this Thursday night in Teaneck. Also Thursday night will be the remaining quarterfinal contest with #3 SAR hosting #6 Flatbush, the winner to play #2 DRS. Moving over to basketball, where the quarterfinals in varsity are all set. The JEC Thunder upset #4 Hillel in Overtime 57-55, Senior Michayel Cornick with the grab and lay in down low at the overtime buzzer to represent the difference. JEC will now move on face North Shore tomorrow night, the winner to play the winner of West #2 SAR and East #3 DRS. In the other bracket, the Flatbush Falcons took 21 points from Freshman Sam Jemal to outpace East #5 HAFTR 49-41. The Falcons will play West #1 Frisch next Tuesday night, the winner to play the winner of Magen David and TABC, taking place in Brooklyn next Tuesday. In JV, by the time we have our next update, we will have reached the semifinals, as all four quarterfinals will be played by next Monday night. This Thursday, West #1 TABC will host East #4 HAFTR, the Hawks 59-45 winners over Flatbush this past Wednesday. The winner of that contest will get to watch Saturday night as DRS and SAR square off in Woodmere. In the other bracket, North Shore and Frisch advanced to the quarters with first-round victories on Wednesday. North Shore downed YDE 59-38 and will next take on Ramaz, while Frisch upended West #4 Hillel 65-53 and will square off with Magen David. Both contests will take place Monday with the winners to meet in the next round. Finally, in Girls Varsity, the semifinals are set and will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday. Undefeated SKA continued their roll, scoring 77 in a rout over Ma'aynot and will face East #3 Flatbush. The Falcons traveled to Ramaz and ran away with a 55-38 victory and will face the Sonics next Wednesday. In the other semifinal, next Tuesday, West top seed Frisch, winners of a 12-point victory over HANC Will take on East #2 seed HAFTR, who narrowly defeated SAR in the quarterfinals. Championship Sunday is drawing ever closer in all leagues and the Yeshiva Sports Network is the only place to experience the hockey and basketball finals. For the 3rd time, YSN will be streaming all four championships with myself and an all-star cast of coaches and athletes breaking down each contest. Stay tuned for more information and for how you can become part of the action and sponsor, just like Yeshiva League Pass. Stay tuned to YLP for all up to date playoff information, then watch on YSN as our 2022-2023 Winter champions are crowned. We kick off Pride Month 2022 with this Oscar-winning biopic directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting) which delves in the life of slain civil rights activist Harvey Milk who took the city of San Francisco AND the country by storm by becoming the first openly gay politician elected to major office in 1978.  His story is both inspiring and touching, with much of the structure of this film and several highlights coming from the 1984 documentary of his life called “The Times of Harvey Milk” which also won the Best Documentary Oscar that year.  Sean Penn stars in the 2008 film as the eponymous activist/politician from Woodmere, NY – he also won the Best Actor Oscar that year and is supported by an impressive cast including James Franco, Josh Brolin, Diego Luna, Victor Garber, and Allison Pill.  The documentary was directed by Rob Epstein and was narrated by Harvey Fierstein – both films are very informative along with being quite entertaining, let's delve into both!Host: Geoff Gershon  Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Our next great series; Light Revealed! which focuses on  revealing the light of passion that young people have to share. The first 6 episodes in the series will correlate to the time of Sfiras HaOmer. Each week we will explore the kabbalistic theme of that week of sfirah (see the first of the series here  for further background into the sfirah of each week) and then we will pair that theme with an interview of a remarkable young person which truly captures the essence of that weeks theme. In this fourth episode Menachem introduces the Sfriah of Netzach and we are joined by Momo Kutner. Momo was born in Memphis, TN and grew up in Lawrence, NY.  He went to mainstream yeshivos his entire life, but at some point began to feel more and more empty and confused. During his time learning in israel, he began to search for something more, and slowly began the process of finding a Judaism that is directed toward living a meaningfully inspired and happy kind of life. Momo now lives in Woodmere, NY with his wife, and has dedicated himself to helping others who are struggling, to find the kind of happiness and fulfillment he was lucky enough to discover. Last year, while most shuls had limited and restricted minyanim from Rosh Hashana through Simchas Torah, this year, most shuls were open for business, albeit with some cautionary guidelines. A year ago, we were still in the “mask” and social distancing zone, this year, we sat near each other. Yet, as the doctors will tell you, we are from being out of the woods. Today's guest, Rabbi Dr. Aaron Glatt,  is one of the most sought-after experts on Covid and other infectious diseases. Rabbi Dr. Glatt is the Associate Rabbi at the Young Israel of Woodmere, and is the Director of the Medical Halacha Commission of the Rabbinical Alliance of America. Heis Board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and is Chairman of Medicine and Chief of Infectious Diseases / Hospital  at Mount Sinai South Nassau, and a full Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. A spokesperson for the Infectious Diseases Society of America, he previously, was the President & CEO of St. Joseph Hospital; Executive Vice President at Mercy Medical Center; and Associate Dean at NY Medical College. Whenthe promise of a vaccine was first rolled out under the Trump Administration, many in the media, and his many political critics said, “it's not trustworthy.” Then under the Biden Administration, the messaging became, “follow the science….it saves lives,” and while millions of people across the globe have been vaccinated, there are still many who are reluctant. Leaving out those who believe in world conspiracies, there are others who are very reasonable and intelligent people who have legitimate questions based on sound and documented research. There have been many reports of people becoming violently ill or suffering serious side effects after being vaccinated, possibly from overstimulation of the immune system, known as the Cytokine Storm. There is no one more qualified to answer these difficult questions and concerns, than Rabbi Dr. Glatt.

Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere, Hewlett, Inwood. Somehow the individual names come together to form the larger Jewish community of the Five Towns. Historically an upscale suburban area that boasted country clubs and golf courses that didn't welcome Jews, the demographics began to change in the post war.  Shuls like Beth Shalom, Young Israel of Woodmere, Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst were formed over time. They were led by pioneering Rabbis like Rabbis Gil Klaperman, Shya Lebor, Nochum Tzvi Kornmehl and many others. With the arrival of Rav Binyamin Kamenetsky in 1956 and the founding of the Yeshiva of South Shore, Jewish education was ensured a future in the Five Towns.  Of course eating is an important component of Jewish life in the region, and Central Avenue would become the home of a variety of famous eateries. Colorful personalities, philanthropists, politicians and activists all called the Five Towns home, and we'll meet some of them on this Jewish history journey into Long Island.   Subscribe To Our Podcast on:   PodBean: https://jsoundbites.podbean.com/   Follow us on Twitter or Instagram at @Jsoundbites You can email Yehuda at yehuda@yehudageberer.com
