Following work between myself and a senior officer in the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Zane Robertson is about to be arrested for smuggling dope into Kenya. The DCI and the Anti Doping Agency of Kenya triggered a joint intelligence operation this week to arrest dopefiend and self-confessed dope smuggler, Zane Robertson. The agencies will swoop in on targeted training camps, coaches, and runners, mainly foreigners operating out of Iten.
In this week's episode, I introduce my training philosophy: Temporal Flow Training (TRT) and how it relates to fatigue resistance. Also, two competitions to win a pair of super shoes and a two week holiday in a 4 bedroom villa in Mauritius.
On Tuesday March 22, it was announced that NZ distance runner, Zane Robertson had received a seven-year ban for failing a drug test. Four years was for taking the banned substance EPO, an additional three years was for trying to cover up his failed test. At the age of 33, this likely spells the end of his professional career.Zane and I connected to have this conversation the morning after, Thursday March 23. In this podcast, a tired and understandably emotional Zane talked openly and frankly about the announcement and the events leading up to it.To WATCH the conversation with Zane, please go to my YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSeBR950GkMVideo credit: Dougie Mackie, Damn Handsome media production. Zane Robertson is a NZ Olympic Marathon runner who lives and trains in Ethiopia. Zane featured on Episode 170 of The Physical Performance Show. I‘ve just returned from some time in Ethiopia where I assisted in my role as a Sports Physio working with athletics, New Zealand to assist Zane in some upcoming marathon preparations. We recorded this conversation on the balcony of Zane‘s home in Mizan on the outskirts of Addis Ababa. It has an altitude of approximately 2,800M and I've learned some lessons about running at altitude while developing quite marked altitude sickness. Tom Evans, a former British Army Captain, made an incredible debut on the Ultra Trail Running scene when he came 3rd in 2017 in the gruelling 251km Desert Ultra Marathon: des Sables. There's a great story behind this elite performance and debut which includes a bet with some of his former military mates in a pub. This third place finish was the best result of any European in the history of the Iconic Race. Tom astounded once again in 2018, when he won the 101km CCC race at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. And from there Tom has gone from success to success. Tom made his debut in his first 100mile race in the other iconic event, The Western States in 2019. Tom picked up a podium spot coming home with a bronze medal to join his bronze medal from representing Great Britain in the World Ultra Trail running championships. During this episode Tom shares his highs, lows and learning from his remarkable career and there are so many learnings. There's some great tales including training with former featured performer of this show Zane Robertson whilst in Ethiopia as well as his big 6 hour run in Ethiopia plus so much more. SUBSCRIBE NOW!
