Joe can't help but confess some of his struggles with the WoW. The guys discuss whether or not Brewster's Millions (1985) may be worth a re-watch. Joe teases telling his Jerome, AZ ghost story, but then forgets to tell it later. Smith refers to this Brother Jake video, and then the guys make a plea to get him on the pcast. Smith reminds Joe about a wonderful TMBG video that stars one of the guys' faves! The guys get unnecessarily angry at Chemish. Smith reveals some of his secrets to giving a good sacrament meeting talk. The guys argue about whether or not y'all is an appropriate contraction in polite society. They pitch for PFT to play a character called Yontu in the SWU. Joe talks about something he heard from this episode of an anti podcast. In a moment of weakness, Smith uses the H word about the BOM. BBJ was down on Radio Row at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona to cover Super Bowl 57. Disaster struck and he completely lost his voice, so he did manage to have the OG of Radio Row and The Godfather of Sportstalk Radio, Tony Bruno come on the show. He also had friend of the program and Host of The NH Experience as well as the owner of Nitecast Media, Nick Hamilton come on to recap that past events of the week. Also, BBJ had an "exclusive" one on one interview with Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.
The guys are back and they did not land their exclusive guest this week (sad face). Smith sent Joe a picture of the cutest baby tortoises you've ever seen. They want you to check out their patreon page- https://patreon.com/JoeAndSmith. A bible? A bible? The more the merrier. Smith refers back to this classic Brother Jake youtube video about the different branches of the church. Smith proposes an interesting test to tell if one is a real Christian. Joe wonders about the future of the temple video. Smith predicts VR temple sessions in the future. The guys discuss some garment do's and dont's. Joe refers back to another classic youtube video about ‘Mormon Jesus'. Joe is about halfway through the Jon Heder ep of the Petey Pants Podcast. The guys reminisce about Pete Holmes' ‘lesbian Val Kilmer-look alike' bit. Joe refers to a Mark Rober youtube video, and he points out that Mark reminds him of a million different guys from elder's quorum who didn't like him (Joe). Joe spoils an entire Black Mirror episode. The guys talk Schitt's Creek and Keep Sweet etc. Music Provided by Eric VanAusdal with permission from the artist. Today I called an audible. I was going to do the first of the 4 pillars of Relaxed Male but instead, I decided to have a conversation with a good friend of mine Jake Warner. And we explored the challenging but best ways to approach racism in today's environment. We explore what best can be done to address the issue from just shutting one's mouth and listening with empathy, to have those scary conversations. "Lovey and Brother Jake discuss how a diverse array of Black stories have been neglected by Hollywood and in their place, America has been presented with a one-sided picture of the Black experience. According to Hollywood, We are 12 Years A Slave, We Are The Help, We are Driving Ms. Daisy… We are so much more. Join the intense discussion this Friday, May 29th."
Mike chats with Brother Jake Edwards (or is it Bro Jake?) about his start on radio in the Maritimes, his multiple tours of duty at Q107, being responsible for bringing John "Spike" Gallagher to the big smoke, his move to Vancouver and everything you ever wanted to know about The Champ (but were afraid to ask).
90 Day Fiancé is one of the biggest hits on reality TV, but who is really winning and who is losing in the game of International love and lust? Lovey brings back Brother Jake to talk about the drama that ensues when you merge love and citizenship. Bring your passport, opinions, and judgement to this episode of the PodCaste System.
In their second week of social distancing, Brother Jake and Brother Micah explore various cooked presentations of the solanum tuberosum, AKA the spud, AKA the yukon gold, AKA the russet, AKA nature's finest carb, AKA the potato. Boil 'em. Mash 'em. Stick 'em in a stew.
Brother Jake flexes his brilliant satirical muscles while comparing a Mormon faith crisis to a Satanic faith crisis in these 4 mini episodes, complete in one episode for the very first time.
Do you truly understand Christianity? What is it all about? Rules? Laws? Legalism? Who and what do you look to for wisdom? Wisdom from above is pure... but be careful who you look to on this earth. This world is so full of vanity. The wisdom of this world, even sometimes under the pretense of doctrine, is vanity. This is a Wednesday evening message given by a brother in our church. We praise the Lord for His Word and the wisdom He will give each one who will seek Him. Thank you, Brother Jake, for filling the pulpit and sharing this most important message for us all to consider: "Wisdom & Vanity."
Who were his best dressed picks? Anything juicy happen at the Emmys and After Party? He writes for E News and works the red carpet for Emmys.com.
Alexis' brother Jake joined us to talk about going to Comic-Con in San Diego. Did he like how Big Little Lies 2 wrapped and would he like to see a season 3? We also talked about his #BBL2 parodies he makes for HBO @jakegthompson.
What happens when the Lord™ draws a firm line in the sand (in November 2015) and then kinda sorta undraws it 3 1/2 years later? Glenn, Heather, and Tom discuss. With maybe a brief special visit from a certain Brother Jake. Enjoy.
On this episode, Joseph Smith and William Miller tangle through public media. Miller’s prophecy of the beginning of the Second Coming of Jesus is hotly disputed by the one true prophet. Jo goes out preaching to his congregants, sees a comet in the sky, and gives his own prophecy of when Jesus will return. Doctrine & Covenants 130 is revealed among all this hubbub concerning end-of-world prophecies. Also our final installment of treasure digs for those who donated to help Brother Jake. On this episode, Jo was safe for a little while. It was time for the 1843 elections which returned predictable results. Jo elevates the Nauvoo House to the importance of the Nauvoo Temple, but then derides people for aggrandizing themselves. A market center is planned and Jo is given final decision-making power as Mayor. Then Jo goes to the Temple construction site and makes a speech that reveals some interesting details of his character. After that we get a great update on Brother Jake, and then take a turn into somber territory to say goodbye to a dear friend, Deborah “Heretic Woman” Mc Taggart. On this episode, Andrew Torrez of Opening Arguments joins us to discuss the legal sphere of Joseph Smith’s troubles in 1843. He helps fact check my take on the January 1843 trial which heard in Smith’s favor on the writ of habeas corpus, but Jo was far from out of the woods. Andrew helps us understand what the next step would be for the State of Illinois as well as Jo’s legal counsel in keeping him out of state custody. After that, we read a letter Jo sent to his legal counsel with regards to new intelligence he’d gained from Orson Pratt. Then we wrap up with discussing a dream Jo had recorded in his history. On this episode, we discuss the historicity of an altercation between Eliza Snow and Emma Hale Smith. Legend has it that Emma saw Eliza who was “heavy with child” kiss Jo and pushed Eliza down the stairs in a fit of jealous rage. It’s common oral tradition passed down for generations, but did it really happen? We dive into where the story came from and what the documentary history can tell us of the supposed incident. History isn’t always so cut and dry. On this episode, Jo’s arrested once again, but the stakes have never been higher. He and his posse make their way to Springfield, IL to determine whether or not a newly issued writ of Habeas Corpus should be honored at the federal level, or if Jo as accessory to murder in Missouri was a state issue to be handled at the Missouri level. Yes, we spend a lot of time mired in court documents, but it’s well worth the read/listen. After that, we do our treasure dig fundraiser for Brother Jake. There’s still time left to donate so don’t miss your chance to be written into a treasure dig! Just forward the receipt of your donation to nakedmormonism@gmail.com. On this episode, we hear the Sunstone Seattle 2018 presentation on the Smith-entheogen theory. Cody Noconi begins with setting the psychedelic stage for entheogens in religious ritualism. Then he gives us a brief introduction of psychedelics in Mormonism. After that, yours truly takes us on a journey into the most practical supplier of entheogenic substances for Joseph Smith during his Kirtland ministry. After the presentation cuts short, I walk through the parts of the presentation we cut out for want of time.
