Here are 3 big things you need to know— One — President Trump's border czar says plans are in motion for a major deportation push in Chicago. Tom Homan says officials are discussing using Naval Station Great Lakes near North Chicago to house a large group of ICE agents after Labor Day. He says Chicago is being targeted due to ongoing crime issues and its status as a sanctuary city. Two --- The man caught on video throwing a sandwich at a federal agent in Washington, DC is now facing a misdemeanor assault charge. The office of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the charge Thursday, a day after it failed to get a grand jury felony indictment. Video of Sean Dunn throwing a sub sandwich at the Border Patrol officer has gone viral. And number three --- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution will be ending its print edition. After more than 150 years in business, the publisher announced that the paper will embrace its digital future following an to email subscribers informing them December 31st will mark the very last printed edition.
This Day in Legal History: Alabama Ten commandments MonumentOn August 28, 2003, the Supreme Court of Alabama removed a 5,280-pound granite monument of the Ten Commandments from the rotunda of the state courthouse in Montgomery. The monument had been installed two years earlier by Chief Justice Roy Moore, who argued it reflected the moral foundation of U.S. law. However, its religious nature sparked immediate controversy and litigation. In Glassroth v. Moore, three attorneys sued in federal court, asserting that the display violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. The U.S. District Court ruled in their favor, ordering the monument's removal.Moore refused to comply with the court's order, prompting further legal and administrative actions. The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the lower court's decision, finding the monument's placement unconstitutional. When Moore continued to defy the federal ruling, the Judicial Inquiry Commission of Alabama brought ethics charges against him. The Alabama Court of the Judiciary subsequently removed Moore from office for failing to uphold the rule of law.The case underscored the constitutional limits on religious expression by public officials and reinforced federal supremacy in matters of constitutional interpretation. It also intensified national debates over the role of religion in public life and the meaning of the Establishment Clause. Moore would later regain the position of Chief Justice in 2013, only to be suspended again for defying federal law, this time over same-sex marriage. You will, of course, also remember that Roy Moore–in addition to being a huge fan of the Ten Commandments–is plausibly accused of misconduct involving multiple women, including allegations of sexual assault by three women—two of whom were minors at the time. Leigh Corfman alleged Moore assaulted her when she was 14 and he was 32, and Beverly Young Nelson accused Moore of assaulting her when she was 16. Six additional women have described Moore as behaving inappropriately when they were between 14 and 22 years old. Moore has denied all allegations of misconduct, though he admitted to knowing some of the women and, at times, dating teenagers while in his 30s. Dating teenagers while in his 30s. No criminal charges were filed, so of course all of these are merely allegations, but the accusations were widely reported during his 2017 Senate campaign, which he lost in a historic upset in deeply Republican Alabama. As President Trump threatens to deploy National Guard troops and ICE agents to Chicago, city and state leaders are scrambling to prepare. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson are working closely to coordinate a response, despite acknowledging that their legal options are limited. The move would follow similar deployments in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., both cities led by Black Democratic mayors. State Attorney General Kwame Raoul is crafting a legal strategy, and immigrant advocacy groups are ramping up legal training in anticipation of increased enforcement. Community leaders worry that a federal presence could disrupt efforts to build trust in high-crime neighborhoods and further strain relationships between residents and law enforcement.Trump claims the intervention is necessary to combat crime, but critics point out that shootings and homicides in Chicago have actually declined significantly this year. Despite the progress, public perceptions of danger persist, with many residents still feeling unsafe at night. Some, including Republicans and a few city residents, support Trump's plan, citing frustration with issues like homelessness and crime. Others view it as a political stunt, especially in light of recent federal cuts to violence prevention programs.Trump has also focused on Chicago's status as a sanctuary city, which has drawn national attention amid the city's efforts to house tens of thousands of migrants. The fear of federal enforcement has spread beyond undocumented immigrants to Latino citizens and residents. Legal experts suggest any unilateral deployment of the National Guard could violate the Constitution and the Posse Comitatus Act. Local protest groups are preparing for nonviolent resistance, framing the potential deployment as authoritarian overreach aimed at intimidation. In Chicago, locals prepare for Trump's possible deployment of National Guard | ReutersA federal grand jury has declined to indict Sean Dunn, a former Justice Department staffer arrested for allegedly throwing a sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent during President Trump's law enforcement crackdown in Washington, D.C. Prosecutors had pursued felony assault charges, citing video evidence and statements that Dunn called the agents "fascists" and yelled, “I don't want you in my city!” before hurling the sandwich. The rejection is notable given the typically low threshold required for grand jury indictments and the prosecutorial control over such proceedings. The case has become symbolic of broader tensions surrounding the Trump administration's deployment of federal agents and National Guard troops to address what it calls a crime surge in the capital—claims contradicted by police data showing a decline in violence. The grand jury's decision reflects growing prosecutorial challenges in securing high-level charges amid political pressure to appear tough on crime.Dunn, who has not entered a plea, was featured in a White House video showing his arrest, part of a broader narrative emphasizing law-and-order policies. The Justice Department has 30 days from arrest to secure an indictment and may attempt to present the case to another grand jury. A similar recent case against a woman accused of assaulting an FBI agent was also downgraded to a misdemeanor after multiple failed attempts to indict. The ham sandwich indictment jokes write themselves. Grand jury declines to indict man arrested for throwing sandwich at US agent, source says | ReutersA federal judge has extended an order blocking the deportation of Kilmar Abrego, a Salvadoran migrant at the center of a high-profile immigration case tied to President Trump's enforcement crackdown. U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis ruled that Abrego must remain in the U.S. at least through October while she considers his legal challenge against a planned deportation to Uganda—a country where he has no connections. The judge also restricted ICE from moving Abrego more than 200 miles from her courthouse in Maryland, where a final hearing is set for October 6.Abrego's case drew national attention in March when he was deported to El Salvador despite a judge's order forbidding it. U.S. officials had accused him of gang affiliations, which he denies. After being imprisoned in El Salvador, he was brought back to the U.S. in June to face charges of transporting undocumented migrants, to which he has pleaded not guilty. His attorneys argue the prosecution is retaliatory and politically motivated.Abrego had been living in Maryland with his wife and children, all of whom are U.S. citizens, before his arrest. His legal team plans to seek asylum through separate immigration proceedings and has criticized the Trump administration's handling of the case as an attempt to erode due process protections in immigration law.Judge extends block on Trump administration's efforts to deport migrant Abrego | Reuters This is a public episode. Jen and Noam discuss the ongoing situation in DC and the agents from…well we can't tell which agency they're from since they don't have ID and their faces are completely covered. Of course, we can't not talk about the infamous DC Subway attack and the staged re-arrest of sandwich thrower Sean Dunn. From there, we move to GQ's ill-advised profile of Hasan Piker and the quest to make him the left wing Joe Rogan. Unfortunately for Piker, this doesn't go well. We wrap up by talking a bit about the new horror movie Weapons (warning - there are spoilers!) and the tendency modern audiences have to read into a movie more than what is actually there.
Donald Trump's first term in office felt, to many, like a burst of cultural backlash—loud, brash, and ultimately blunted. He entered Washington in 2017 promising to “drain the swamp,” but underestimated how deep and tangled the roots ran. The permanent bureaucracy, the NGO network, and the sprawling infrastructure of media-linked soft power endured. By the time Joe Biden took office in 2021, the so-called “intercom” —the elite feedback loop of agencies, think tanks, activist nonprofits, and friendly press—was back in full control. But Trump's 2024 victory marked a sharp break. This time, he came in not as an insurgent learning the ropes but as a returning general with a kill list. The second term's agenda is unapologetically surgical: cut, cauterize, and rebuild. Where once he allowed careerists to stay on out of caution or optics, now he's purging aggressively. The Department of Justice, State Department, USAID, and even federally funded broadcasters like NPR and PBS are feeling the blowtorch. The method is both ideological and operational. Ideologically, Trump and his allies frame the federal bureaucracy as a hostile occupying force—what he has long branded the “deep state.” Operationally, they are stripping funding, closing offices, and firing tens of thousands of career civil servants. Reports cite over 275,000 federal civil service layoffs since January 2025, not including contractors. Whole agencies, particularly in the foreign aid and NGO sphere, are being gutted. USAID—long accused by critics of being an internationalist activist arm under the guise of development—has been defunded to the bone.In Trump's view, this is not mere budget discipline but necessary surgery to remove “cancer” before it metastasizes again. It's the same logic Elon Musk applied at Twitter—slash headcount under the guise of cost-cutting while gutting the internal political culture. For Trump, that means sweeping out anyone suspected of ideological hostility, no matter their seniority or tenure protections. His allies call it flushing out moles; his critics call it authoritarianism.Symbolic moments punctuate the purge. In Washington, D.C., Sean Dunn—a career DOJ trial lawyer—was filmed throwing a sandwich at federal agents while shouting “fascist.” For Trump supporters, it was proof of rot: a sworn officer of the executive branch openly defying the chain of command, embodying the very subversion they claim is endemic. Dunn was arrested on felony charges and promptly fired—a public scalp meant to signal that no one in the bureaucracy is untouchable. To the administration, the protests outside the White House are not grassroots uprisings but the death throes of the old guard—mostly white, highly educated NGO veterans, retired diplomats, and Beltway lifers. Trump's team insists they are dismantling not democracy but a parallel government that never stood for election. This is the paradox at the heart of Trump's second term. Governing is harder than protesting, and he knows it. But he's betting that a total institutional purge—painful, disruptive, and risky—will finally deliver what “drain the swamp” never could: a federal apparatus aligned with the president's vision, not working to undermine it.In his eyes, cutting out the rot now might save the patient later, even if the surgery leaves scars. Whether history calls it reform or wreckage will depend on who writes the next chapter.
//The Wire//2300Z August 14, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: DC CLEANUP CONTINUES AS ACTIVISM INCREASES THROUGHOUT THE CITY. TOTAL POWER OUTAGE STRIKES LARGE REGIONAL HOSPITAL IN UTAH.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------HomeFront-Virginia: Multiple police officers were injured/wounded while attempting to serve warrants in Gretna last night, which led to a prolonged standoff. The suspect, who has been identified as James Andru Lehnerd [sic], was initially wanted for trespassing and brandishing a firearm, and as police arrived to serve the warrants Lehnerd engaged them. 3x officers were wounded and/or injured by flying debris, but none were hit with bullets. Lehnerd surrendered to police after a few hours.Utah: This morning the Intermountain Medical Center near Salt Lake City suffered a catastrophic power outage, with both the primary source of electricity failing along with backup generators. Patients needing critical life-support devices were immediately evacuated to other hospitals, and this afternoon local media reported that repairs were made to allow the hospital to operate in a limited capacity on backup generators.Analyst Comment: It is exceptionally rare for any Level 1 trauma center to lose power like this, but even more rare is the failure of backup generators designed from the ground up expressly for this type of emergency. This is also not a small clinic, but a VERY large hospital that provides emergency care for much of the entire region.Washington D.C. - Anti-crime initiatives continue as before, with several arrests being announced over the past few days. Yesterday evening, a man was arrested after assaulting ICE agents during a downtown immigration raid. This morning the DoJ identified this individual as Sean Dunn...a DoJ employee who was subsequently fired this morning.Analyst Comment: Regarding these policing efforts, mostly low-level criminals have been rounded up, or general miscreants who the feds could only grab on "illegal gun" charges or other dubious means. National Guard soldiers have been observed taking up positions around the city, and so far have mostly served as a target for activists to scream at. Cleanup operations continue around the city with little fanfare, and so far the general plan has been to dismantle homeless camps around the city, with the inhabitants housed in dedicated facilities or mental health/rehab clinics as needed.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comment: Throughout the international community, there is growing sentiment that tomorrows meeting between Russia and the United States may result in things falling into place very rapidly. What the outcome of this meeting will be is anyone's guess, but many European leaders have issued statements of concern, indicating that many world leaders seem to think that this meeting will hammer out the details of a peace agreement. Several European leaders have assured their populations that there will be no territory-swap terms discussed during this meeting, however the fervor by which statements have been made have undermined their efforts at narrative control. In other words, when a dozen European Heads of State make multiple statements that the US won't allow Ukraine to be carved up...and they make these statements over and over again, one might be inclined to think this is exactly what's going to happen. Either way, the ball is in Russia's court. American sanctions have done absolutely nothing but strengthen Russia's economy, simply because most of Europe itself relies on Russia in some form or other. So threatening to sanction Russia if the meeting doesn't go well is a farce. On Russia's end, the world is changing, and it is easy to surmise that the next large-scale conflict may take place in the Far East...Taiwan. Since this is mostly up to Putin, he himself is very clearly interested in solving this issue decisively; Russia does not want to have to fig
If they dont go to church, they are not interested in hearing more about Jesus. Today's guest Sean Dunn is on a mission to prove that statement wrong! He talks about the process it has been to get in front of Gen Z and Millenials, and how at times, he heard NOTHING from God on the matter. But how he kept his vision and faith through the process. Sean's Book: Contending for the Rising Generations: Winning Millennials and Gen Z with the Hope of the Gospel In this episode, you'll discover… What is a key trait to winning at work and at home? (1:24) How reading the bible changed Sean. (2:30) How Sean holds himself accountable. (10:30) Hearing nothing from God. (23:30) Sean's Bio: When Groundwire founder and President, Sean Dunn first heard a call toward ministry, he responded with a resounding “Yes.” A yes to be a part of God's vision and mission for the youth of America. A heart for the lost and a deeply rooted faith in Jesus sustained him. While preaching and teaching the younger generations in churches, Sean felt another call from God, to go to the lost rather than waiting for the lost to come. Looking across his church community, he realized the lost were found outside of these walls and it was time for him to bring the gospel to them. So, where were they? The answer to that question quickly became clear, they are everywhere and yet connected through social media channels. That was it. That was the place where Sean could bring the gospel to the lost. And so, the strategy behind Groundwire was born. Creating compelling and well-produced video content, purchasing ad space on popular social media platforms, and interrupting the noise of today with the hope of Jesus. Groundwire brings a message of God's loving kindness, his grace and compassion, to teens and young adults. Today, Groundwire operates multiple campaigns including JesusCares.com and WhenLifeHurts.com, as well as running campaigns in Spanish as AJesusleImporta.com and CuandolaVidaDuele.com. Each campaign invites viewers to chat with someone who cares through the 24/7 chat feature. Connecting people with coaches who are trained to listen, encourage, and ultimately point chatter to Jesus. Just like Sean said “yes” to God's calling for his life, our hope is to lead the lost and broken to saying their own “yes” to a life with Jesus Christ. What's Next? NEW!! Join the new RISE community. Today's generation is not worried about going to hell when they die because they often feel like they are living in hell right now. So how can we reach them for Jesus? Sean Dunn is reaching Millennials and Generation Z with innovative digital strategies. First he interrupts their social media time using paid advertising and Hollywood produced content. Then he uses online chats to provide answers to the real questions young people are asking about the pain they feel in their lives. They present the hope that comes through Jesus and ask people to make a commitment to follow Christ. You are going to love hearing about Sean's innovative method of evangelism on today's episode of The Evangelism Podcast.

It's been a long couple of years without WCBL baseball in a trio of Alberta communities. Over the past few episodes, we've chatted with hometown athletes Dax Wandler of the Brooks Bombers and Sean Dunn of the Fort McMurray Giants about coming back this season and the excitement in their respective communities. The third team to return is the Medicine Hat Mavericks and who better to talk about to than Nathan Stark. The Medicine Hat product grew up coming to Mavericks games, and has had the fortune of being with the team since 2017, including their 2018 championship run. While those years were special, this year is even more sweet as he has his brothers, Josh and Zach, on the roster as well. In fact, as we record this episode, they've all been on the field at the same time on a couple of occasions. Nathan is the eldest brother who played his high school ball with the McCoy Colts before moving onto Colby Community College, LSU-Shreveport and Doane University. It's been quite the journey for the 6-foot-3, 171-pound right-hander, who joined us earlier this week to talk all about it.

Talk about a homecoming for Sean Dunn. The Fort McMurray product has been chomping at the bit to get back onto the field with his hometown Giants in the Western Canadian Baseball League for a while now, as the pandemic got in the way of their return in 2020 and 2021. The Giants are in a dogfight for a playoff spot in the West Division, hoping to get there for the first time since entering the league in 2016. Dunn remembers those early years, and believes the team has what it takes to turn up the heat in the second half of the season. The 6-3, 185-pound hurler knows a thing or two about winning, as he is fresh off helping Okanagan College capture the Canadian College Baseball Conference title this spring. We talked about all of that earlier this week, as well as what it means to him to give back to his hometown's baseball community and much more.
Sean Dunn reveals how Groundwire is bringing 100K+ young people to Christ each year. And, in 2021, that number neared almost 200K. Here's the powerful way he is using social media to reach young people who are unchurched.
