This is a quick episode but a good one because a lot of parents will go through this where your child may need help and you cannot be the person to help them. Some kids do not want to come to their parents with what they need. Some parents may take that as a bad thing but maybe that child feels comfortable opening up with someone who's a professional or a friend that is not you. As long as your child gets to express themselves and get the help that they need you should be happy. In this episode, I explore ways parents can be supportive for their children if they need help and not from them. #Parenting #Help #TeenagersSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/cozy-womb/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

It doesn't matter how intentional we intend to be - or think we are - there comes a moment when we suddenly realise things aren't how we want them to be. This can happen in any area of parenting. One such situation is you suddenly realise your child spends too much time watching a screen. I know that a big issue is teens on social media but that's not what I'm specifically talking about today. Today I want to talk more about younger kids and TV, streaming shows, youtube, movies and maybe even gaming - that kind of entertainment. Let's just call it screen time. You might find some helpful ideas here to help with your teen managing their phones and social media - but that's not the problem I'm specifically thinking about today. In Episode 147, Kyle and Sara, LPC's, share the 4th core principal of how we parent and how we coach other parents. When we look at all the science and research that has been conducted over the past several decades about parenting, the most powerful and important part of it seems to come down to one thing - Connection. With a strong and healthy connection our children are more receptive and open to our guidance and our love. When the connection becomes strained or weakened then the relationship will begin to deteriorate and the child will feel disconnected and alone. As important as connection is, we also know it can be difficult to maintain as children grow up and searching for independence and peers is the priority. Sara and I discuss how to maintain a strong bond throughout all the child's various stages of development and maturity. It definitely takes some creativity and intentionality but in the end connection is what makes all of it worth it. Welcome to today's episode, where we are looking at how our words and actions affect our children's hearts? Are we nurturing them or unknowingly creating a disconnect? We are going to start off by looking at Colossians 3:21 By obeying this verse - which calls us to not provoke our children to wrath (which is a commonly known translation). So how do we do that? I have 6 simple ideas that will help you encourage rather than discourage your child - TBH - they are simple to talk about, but harder to implement - which makes them all the more important for us to think about and check how we are doing. Whether you're looking for reassurance or new strategies, this episode offers both hope and practical insights. Join HEART-BOOSTERS (free) here. Does your child have a problem with what's in their backpack? You know, those papers that are wrinkled at the bottom? Maybe a permission slip? Or possibly a banana? Or how about the things that are NOT in their backpack? Do they forget to put their homework in? Or maybe their lunch or water bottle? In this podcast take a new approach! We want it to be THEIR fault in their minds. It's ok that there's a problem, it's just not ok if they blame others. But, if we touch their backpacks, it IS our fault!I have some rules for you: RULES FOR PARENTS 1 - Don't empty the backpack 2 - Don't pack the backpack 3 - Don't carry the backpack Don't get me wrong, you're welcome to coach a child but THEY need to do the work. No nagging! Just ASK if they'd like some suggestions. Maybe make lists with them about what's supposed to go IN the backpack before school and what comes OUT after school. Make the lists together, don't just write it all up for them. If they can't read then use pictures or drawings. Email me at mary@parentingdecoded.com or go to my website at www.parentingdecoded.com. In this episode, I sat down with Carol McKelvey, an experienced therapist and family mediator, to explore the complex issue of parental alienation from her unique vantage point. Carol, who has spent much of her career in behavioral health, transitioned into mediation to support families through divorce with an insightful, balanced approach. We delved into the subtler tactics of parental alienation—behaviors that often go unnoticed in court or mediation. Carol shared her perspective on how even subtle actions, like undermining the other parent's decisions in front of children, constitute alienation, and why these less overt forms can be particularly damaging. She offered practical advice for parents facing alienation on how to effectively advocate for their interests in mediation, along with insights on how the dynamic shifts when legal counsel is present. Throughout, Carol emphasized her role in restoring harmony when tensions run high, underscoring the importance of mediators in helping families reach resolutions that serve the best interests of everyone, especially the children. #80: How to be a Consistent Parent without the Guilt We all know it – Being consistent is important as a parent. But we also know it is one of the biggest challenges we face – and it is one of the biggest guilts we deal with. But what does consistency look like? We tend to see it as being 100 percent the same – always; but, that can look like legalism or being authoritarian. Out of reaction, we swing the pendulum the other way – and find ourselves inconsistent! There has to be a balance, a middle road somewhere that makes consistency doable without the guilt of being human. In this episode, I talk about how to deal with your teenager's disrespectful attitude. You may have had a conversation with a friend about kids these days and how much they feel entitled. This week on Mama Says Namaste, we're diving deep into the seemingly invisible load of managing a home. I was inspired by another Instagram post on the topic of chores and children. Based on Sam Kelly World's post, we discuss the concept of "notice and do," where we're empowering our children to take ownership of their responsibilities without resorting to the traditional chore list. We discuss tips and techniques for setting our kids up for success, breaking down tasks into achievable steps, and fostering a family environment where everyone notices what needs to be done and takes initiative. It's all about empowering our children (and partners), building family unity, and nurturing responsible, proactive adults for the future. Pay attention this week on what all you "notice and do" at home, and how equipped your family is with the awareness to even know how to help.
#63 My mum used to talk about the little man sitting on my shoulder making me uncomfortable if I did something wrong, or was about to. This was my conscience. I define the conscience as the work of the heart telling me when my choices are about to go against what I believe is right. We need to teach our children about their conscience. We need to teach them to listen to it. This is what I'm talking about t his week - as I ask the question - Do your Kids listen to that inner voice of their Heart?" >>>FULL TRANSCRIPT/BLOG: Do your Kids Listen to that Inner Voice of their Heart? This was not because “my metabolism was high”, this was because I pretty much dieted my whole life. I did every sport you could think of growing up and eventually got into running. The more I ran, the more weight I lost. It got to a point where I was 100 lbs. soaking wet, but still running 10 miles a day (everyday!) and barely eating. This worked for almost 8 years, until it didn't. After college, I started gaining weight very quickly, despite how much I was running or how little I was eating. I was freaked out! I kept asking myself, “what is going on?! This is so weird, I'm doing everything right!”. I was miserable, exhausted, puffy, tired, hungry, etc. I didn't know what to do or where to go from here. If you're here reading this, you might relate. In 2018 I looked into reverse dieting and macro counting and read/listened to everything I could get my hands on to learn what was going on with my body. Eventually, I realized my metabolism had tanked and I needed to eat more and workout less. Who would have thought? This was totally against what society tells us! Within a year, I was able to lose 20 lbs. while eating more and working out less. It was a slow and steady process of gradually increasing calories but thankfully I'm finally at a happy place and have been here for 6 years now (with a few babies in between). Now, I feel amazing, I eat what I want, I'm not exhausted and I have all the energy in the world.I look back now and I am so thankful I had to go through this process because I want to help as many women as I can get out of this dieting rut!!If you feel like you're undereating or over exercising but gaining weight, don't worry.. you're not broken and there is hope. Yes, it can feel scary when your child is a late reader, or just continues to resist reading when you just know it's such an important part of their learning! I was an avid bookworm who started reading early and thrived on books, so it was pretty hard for me when all three of my children lacked my same enthusiasm. My thirteen-year-old daughter, Ellie, suggested we discuss this topic, and she shared her top three tips that shifted her from being a very resistant late reader at ten to now absolutely loving reading. If you have a late reader or a child who is just resisting books, check this out. What book opened the door to enjoying reading for you? How about your child?
