She is a south Sudanese woman who is scouting for the raptors in Africa in hopes of finding the next Pascal Siakam. Her life story involved leaving war-stricken Sudan for Kenya, finding basketball, and playing it in the United States and around the world. It included a tryout with a WNBA team and a master’s degree in international relations. Sarah Chan landed her dream job after meeting Masai Ujiri, and is now scouring Africa to find the next big star She is the first African woman to be the lead scout for an NBA franchise in Africa. The inspirational South-Sudanese women rights activist is currently the African Scouting Manager for the 2019 NBA champions Toronto Raptors.     What’s your why? Mrs Farai Mubaiwa joined us this week in an eye opening episode filled with her experiences and challenges which have helped make her who she is today. Mrs Farai Mubaiwa is an ambitious lady working towards upskilling and empowering the youth of South Africa in order to uplift their lives. Mrs Mubaiwa is the co-founder of the Africa Matters Initiative , which is a youth-led organisation that is committed to helping and motivating African youth, to change their communities and the African narrative through leadership, social entrepreneurship, and advocacy. The initiative was formed due to the lack of media coverage of African lives in comparison to their Western counterparts, and the negative narrative that has been painted for Africa. This Initiative also hosts big events such as networking sessions and workshops on African leadership and women's empowerment, school talks on youth empowerment, and annual summits titled “Towards a Better Africa”.  Farai is a Partner at Youth Employment Service (YES). YES is a business-led NPO which works in partnership with government and labor to initiate policy changes which incentivises the creation of jobs for youth. Farai received a Queen’s Young Leaders Award in 2017 for her work to empower young people through the Africa Matters Initiative, which brings together Africans who are committed to involving their peers in conversations about identity and leadership.     This week we got the opportunity to speak to Software developer,creative curator and serial entrepreneur the ambitious Mr Farai Mashiri. Farai was born in Zimbabwe and after his final year in highschool he set out to create one of the biggest platforms behind his brand, The Alphalist which features the Alphalist Radio.He is the founder of the alpha list radio which is a creative network built for African creatives which features many Djs and successful musical artists, it’s purpose was to connect African talent and he found it easier to understand a lot of creators and to build stronger relationships and this was aided by him studying psychology at SACAP. He set out to change the way events were conducted and he aimed to create a more comfortable environment for events, he has worked with many influencers on his goal to help him in improving his craft and establishing a name for him We got to share laughs and hear the challenges he has faced on his journey, how it is being an only child, his biggest challenge and more! It was an eye opening experience as we got to share laughs and understand the strenuous work behind balancing YouTube and being a university student. Natalie recently completed her Bcom degree in South Africa and has continued to soldier on with her Youtube channel, consistently posting a new video every single week. Her Intriguing channel is centered around travel vlogs and fashion styling, Natalie enjoys traveling and experiencing different cultures and new restaurants and this can be seen through her content. She reveals the truth behind the hard work youtubers do with editing, her views on couple YouTube channels,How negative social media can be,the challenges she’s faced and more!     This Week we travel to Zimbabwe as we got the opportunity to speak to Taonesesa Karidza who advocates for Mental health, she’s an author,public speaker and runs her own company called PIAF which helps people in need, In July 2017, Tiwanna moved to South Africa to start her Law Degree at the university of Monash South Africa. Ever since then, she participated in conversations such as gender based violence, cannabis and mental health and women empowerment.
