Driving the relatively new Suzuki Swift Hybrid five-door hatchback – available inthree models, I drove the top-line GLX. The latest Suzuki Swift now in its fourthgeneration comes only in hybrid form – combining a 1.2-litre three-cylinderengine with what's described as a mild hybrid system – a 2.3kW integrated startergenerator and a 12-volt lithium-ion battery. The GLX grade at $29,490 drive-awaysharply priced and highly equipped, with CVT transmission and manual shiftpaddles, larger 16-inch alloy wheels, climate control air, and wireless phonecharging. The latest Swift looks little different to its predecessor. Despite thehybrid tag there is no EV-only motoring, this is predominately a petrol car withminimal electric motor torque – as such the drive feels little different to a purepetrol model - the three-cylinder engine has a distinct hum to it while with an all-up weight of just 957kg the Swift GLX automatic is a particularly nimble small cararound town. I managed 5.3L/100km and whilst that's impressive it does need adiet of dearer 95-octane petrol. A pleasant small hatchback in many ways, wellpriced, highly equipped with safety and driving technology but some elements ofthis latest Suzuki Swift hybrid left me thinking it was becoming a little dated. Driving the Suzuki Swift today, a small five-door hatch in its fourth generation, now in mild hybrid form and little different visually. I drove the top spec Swift GLXcombining a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a 2.3kW integrated startergenerator and a 12-volt lithium-ion battery driving through a continuouslyvariable automatic with manual shift paddles. Super light at just 957Kg just sonimble and easy to drive – the three cylinders a little noisy, it has a hum about it,the steering light and the ride comforting for such a small car. The interior a bigimprovement with a larger touchscreen, nice seats, a little tight in the rear butunderstandable for a small hatch, quality from the Japan's small car companyhard to criticize. The big question is how the hybrid element is employed – itdoesn't drive in pure electric mode but adds a touch more power to the three-cylinder engine when required. A pleasant small car, but at times a little courseand not as sweet as the previous 1.0-litre turbo Swift I remember. Good economy,5.3L/100km but now requiring dearer 95 grade petrol. A nice well equipped smallhatch but to me now starting to show its age a little in certain areas. I'm DavidBerthonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Suzuki has released pricing and details of its latest small Swift range with pricesstarting from $24,490 drive-away. The three-model Swift range is powered by a1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid assistance and is availablein either five-speed manual or CVT automatic. The engine's electric motor/generator is claimed to contribute outputs of 2.3kW and 60Nm assisting lowspeed acceleration powered by a 12-volt lithium-ion battery. The Japanese smallcar manufacturer claiming manual fuel consumption of 3.8L/100km on thecombined city/country cycle and 4.0L/100km for the automatic. The Japanese-built Suzuki Swift is one of our most enduring small hatchbacks, the second bestselling light hatch behind the recently superseded Chinese-built MG3. However, the recent launch of the latest MG3 saw price increases of $7,000 and the mildhybrid Suzuki Swift now undercuts the MG3 Excite by $500. As data centers around the world continue to move toward sustainability, Norway's unique climate and environmental agencies have made 100% renewable energy possible — and the country is setting the standard for others to follow. What Makes Norway Different? While cities like London, Paris, and Amsterdam continue to get much of the data center attention in Europe, some are starting to realize that there may be better locations to build a data center than in the cities with the highest PSF rent in the world. Enter Norway —a country where low costs meet high sustainability. Norway's cost of electricity is among the lowest in the world (and by far the lowest of European countries), a result of their plentiful natural and renewable resources. The country contains 25 wind farms and over 1,500 hydropower plants, making 98% of Norway's electricity renewable. Also, according to Norway's recent government figures, they currently produce an annual energy surplus of 5TWh and plan to raise that figure to 20TWh in the next 10 years. Green Mountain and Green Energy We recently spoke with Tor Kristian Gyland, CEO of Green Mountain, about what makes Norway an ideal location for data centers — and how Green Mountain manages to operate all of their data centers on 100% renewable energy. Green Mountain designs, builds, and operates high security, robust, wholesale colocation data centers. The company currently offers three data centers in Norway: DC1-Stavanger at Rennesøy just outside Stavanger, DC2-Telemark in Rjukan, and DC3-Oslo, which is just 12 miles outside the capital. Each of these data centers are Tier III certified by Uptime Institute for design and facility, and the centers' existing customers include banks, IT service providers, government agencies, and large enterprises. When it comes to renewable energy, Gyland credits the country of Norway for making sustainability a viable and affordable option. While the cost of land and power in other cities and countries makes it more difficult for data centers to increase their capacity, Norway's cost of power is 75% cheaper than FLAP data centers. That means a 10MW facility in Norway can save 155 million euros over a 10-year period when compared to what they'd spend in Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, or Paris. Solving for Cooling and Connectivity One of the most pervasive challenges in the data center industry is the ability to ensure continual cooling throughout the day. At Green Mountain's DC1-Stavanger, they can use cold water from the deep Norwegian fjords located near the facilities to ensure the most efficient and effective cooling process. By using gravity, the cold water flows to the green data center cooling station without the need for power. They then only require minimal power to pump the cold water into the data center through heat exchangers (3kW of power for 1000kW of cooling). This unique cooling system results in high-quality, cost-effective, and energy-efficient data center solutions with a PUE as low as 1.2. Of course, with all of this focus on renewable energy, are Green Mountain data centers able to rival the connectivity abilities of other European data centers? Gyland views connectivity as yet another Norwegian advantage. Due to the investments that have been made in and around Norway over the last three to four years, Norwegian data centers are able to reach 54% of all businesses in Europe with less than 20 milliseconds of round trip. According to experts, such a low latency rate makes it possible to move close to 90% of a data center's workload from Norway to European countries. With the lowest power prices in Europe and the greenest data centers in the world, Green Mountain is setting the standard for sustainability. And Norway is a model that other countries can look to as they work to attract productive and energy-efficient data centers.

you've bought a high-end smartphone in the past few months, you'll probably be familiar with wireless charging. Just like it sounds, it's a simple way of putting charge into your phone without the need for cables – and Qualcomm's Halo technology is essentially a scaled-up version. It relies on resonant magnetic induction to transfer energy between a pad on the ground, and another under the floor of a compatible EV. The charging pad is around a metre square, while the car's receiving pad is enclosed in a smaller, dinner dish-sized device under the car. Once the two are aligned, charging can take place at 3.3kW, 6.6kW or 20kW speeds. Our guide to electric car batteries and tech Does it actually work? It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Recommended vidoes to watch - my buddy Kyle Conner has taken a 20 minute tour of the Nissan ARIYA. A potentially important car if they price it correctly and promote it to their customers. It's not the 'new LEAF' its a ground-up rethink of an EV. They seem to have parked inside a painfully trendy loft apartment with stripped back brick walls, and it's in the launch colour which I'll generously call copper. It's on the InsideEVs channel. And secondly it's rare that two people send me a video recommendation within a few minutes of each other, but the brilliant Jason at Engineering Explained channel asks: "Why do bigger wheels mean worse efficiency, when the overall tire diameter remains the same? This comes down to aerodynamics. A 20" wheel will cause more of a disruption in airflow than an 18" wheel. That's why Tesla (and others) uses aero covers on their wheels (Car & Driver testing showed it gives about a 3% efficiency bonus at speed). The smaller the wheel, the more of the side profile of the wheel & tire is perfectly flat (the tire is flat, the wheel is open: more tire = more flat area, less open area). Ideally, you'd have just a plain, solid sheet for the wheel, but obviously that's not idea for brake cooling. Wheel covers are today's common compromise as they have some airflow, but minimal. Let's bring back big sidewalls! Watch till the end to learn how fat sidewalls will save the planet." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYvKxsYFqO8&feature=emb_title&ab_channel=EngineeringExplained FORD E-TRANSIT UNVEILED "Ford debuted its all-electric E-Transit van this morning, and I have to say, of all the electric car debuts we’ve seen in recent years — the Volkswagen ID.4, the Mustang Mach-E, the Hummer EV, the Cadillac Lyriq, yes, even the Polestar 2 and Honda E — the E-Transit is more exciting than them all." says Erik at Jalopnik: "This is because the E-Transit has practical applications that other EV cars simply don’t offer. Vans tend to be used for short trips and are also used widely for the so-called “last mile” of deliveries. An electric van completing those trips should have meaningful effects on emissions since commercial vehicles contribute a fair amount of pollution to the environment." With a usable battery capacity of 67kWh, E-Transit offers an estimated driving range of up to 217 miles on the combined WLTP cycle, providing enough range to meet daily requirements, but with sufficient additional capacity to account for variations in vehicle load and weather conditions. This makes E-Transit ideal for urban environments, fixed drive routes and deliveries within geofenced zero-emission driving zones, without requiring fleet owners to pay for excess battery capacity they don’t need. The vehicle also supports Scheduled Pre-Conditioning, enabling the climate control system to be programmed to adjust the cabin to the preferred temperature while the vehicle is still on charge, ensuring that the maximum driving range is available. E-Transit can reduce service cost of ownership by approximately 40 per cent compared with internal combustion engine-equipped models, as a result of lower maintenance expenses. The vehicle’s 11.3kW on-board charger is capable of delivering a 100 per cent charge in up to 8.2 hours. Charging with up to 115kW using a high-power DC fast-charger, E-Transit can top-up the battery from 15 per cent to 80 per cent in around 34 minutes. E-Transit features optional Pro Power Onboard, which enables customers to transform the vehicle into a mobile power source, providing up to 2.3kW for powering tools and equipment on the jobsite and on the go. This is an industry first for light commercial vehicles in Europe. Designed with uncompromised cargo volume capacity, E-Transit’s battery is located underneath the body, providing up to 15.1 cubic meters of cargo space, the same as a rear-wheel drive diesel Transit. Ford engineers redesigned E-Transit’s driveline and rear suspension system to optimise cargo space, creating a heavy-duty semi-trailing arm suspension system that enables better steering precision and more confident handling, plus better traction in both laden and unladen conditions. In Europe, Ford will offer a generous choice of 25 E-Transit configurations, with van, double-cab-in-van and chassis cab body styles, multiple length and roof-height options, and a range of gross vehicle mass options up to 4.25 tonnes, to support a wide variety of customer needs $45,000 is 4k above combustion version. Needless to say, workers’ union IG Metall was not happy about the executive’s alleged “betrayal.”" reports Teslarati: "While neither Reif nor Tesla has confirmed the news, IG Metall took the unusual step of announcing the executive’s departure from Mercedes-Benz’s engine factory at Berlin. As noted in a report from Deutsche Welle, the union announced the “defection” in a press release calling for protests at the engine factory on Thursday, November 12. Jan Otto, head of IG Metall Berlin, shared the union’s sentiments about Reif’s departure." https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-diamler-exec-enrages-german-union-over-treason/ POWERCELL GETS MORE ORDERS FOR FC STACKS FROM BOSCH "PowerCell Sweden has been given a further order from Bosch worth the equivalent of around 900,000 euros to supply FC stacks of the PowerCell S3 type next year. The deal is part of a joint development and license agreement signed in 2019." reports electrive: "Since April 2019, Bosch and PowerCell Sweden have been working together on the development, production and marketing of a stack for the automotive sector based on the polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEM) called PowerCell S3. PowerCell sells its fuel cell for other segments. For example, according to an earlier announcement, the company has signed a contract with an unnamed “leading European shipyard” for the development and supply of a marine fuel cell system with a total output of approximately 3 megawatts. The system is to be developed and delivered within three years. Bosch sees long-term potential in the mobile fuel cell technology business in the billions. Bosch has already made clear some time ago that starting with commercial vehicles, Bosch fuel cell drives would then be increasingly used in passenger cars in the future." https://www.electrive.com/2020/11/11/powercell-gets-more-orders-for-fc-stacks-from-bosch/ You can listen to all 928 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. The most obvious is the exterior chrome delete that looks much the same as that of the Tesla Model Y." says InsideEVs: "According to Teslarati, the China-made Model 3 is getting the chrome delete, a powered trunk, a new steering wheel, and an updated center console, among other things. Electrek reported that it has received official information that the latter updates, as well as those seen on the Model 3s at Fremont, are planned for U.S. cars" "Tesla has refreshed its Model 3 with some changes to the car's exterior, interior, and possibly elsewhere." says Tesmanian: "We have previously received reports from some North American owners that their Model 3s differ in frunk and headlights. Several updated Model 3s were also delivered to Europe, and made in China Model 3 was said to have received a number of changes. Now, Tesla enthusiast @WholeMarsBlog/Twitter has taken pictures of the refreshed Model 3 in Fremont. The production date of the car is October 8. In the shots, you can clearly see that the frame around the windows and door handles are no longer chrome. The sides of the center console are covered in vegan leather with stitching, instead of the plastic sidewalls that came before. Also spotted was a Model 3 with a steering wheel on the right side, which is likely an indicator of where it will be delivered. Tesla tracker Veda Prime claims that, according to the label, this car will be shipped to Australia or New Zealand. At the bottom of the label, we can see the mark, Japan, but Veda Prime claims that this is not proof that this Model 3 will be sent to Japan." That’s about 90 miles less on a charge than the competing Tesla Model 3." says TechCrunch: "Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath spoke at TechCrunch Sessions: Mobility shortly after the EPA released its range guidance. In short, he said Polestar knows drivers see real-world results that exceed the EPA’s range. Ingenlath concedes his company is not beating Tesla in range, but encourages side-by-side comparisons in the real world. What looks like a large difference on paper is much less in practice. And he says a longer-range version is on the way." https://techcrunch.com/2020/10/09/polestar-ceo-defends-the-polestar-2s-recall-and-233-mile-epa-rating/ NIO COMPLETES 1 MILLION BATTERY SWAPS On May 20th 2018 the first NIO Battery Swap station was installed in Shenzhen. It was back in May that I told you about NIO completing their 500,000th battery swap. And it has taken just 4 months to double that. "As of October 5, 2020, Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker NIO (NYSE: NIO) has provided more than one million free battery swaps to users, with a maximum of more than 500 battery swaps for a single vehicle, NIO said today. NIO said, based on the cost of 180 yuan per time, the service has a cumulative savings of more than 100 million yuan for users." reports CN Tech Post: "NIO has deployed 155 battery swap stations in China." https://cntechpost.com/2020/10/05/nio-says-it-has-delivered-battery-swap-service-to-users-more-than-1-million-times/ AMAZON SHOWS RIVIAN ELECTRIC DELIVERY VANS "Amazon just showed off the first of its planned custom electric delivery vehicles, which could be delivering packages in the next year. It plans to have 10,000 on the road by 2022, and 100,000 by 2030." says Business Insider: "The vehicle has Alexa voice assistant integration for giving drivers hands-free information about traffic and route updates. Exterior cameras extend around the vehicle, giving the driver a 360-degree view of the area around them." https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-electric-delivery-van-photos-details-features-2020-10?r=US&IR=T#in-the-back-of-the-van-bright-tail-lights-on-both-the-sides-and-roof-clearly-show-other-drivers-when-the-vehicle-is-braking-enhancing-safety-7 OIL GIANT TOTAL BUYS LONDON’S LARGEST EV CHARGING NETWORK "French oil giant Total has bought the London’s largest EV charging network from another French giant, Bolloré Group. Source London, as the charge point network is called, includes more than 1,600 charge points. It was under the Blue Point London portion of Bolloré’s business, which is what Total acquired." writes Clean Technica: "Source London isn’t just the biggest EV charge point network in London — it accounts for more than half of the city’s charge points. Furthermore, it intends to increase the number of charge points in its network by 10× before the end of 2025. That would mean 16,000, which sounds like a lot until you look at Total’s broader plans. The energy company wants to be operating more than 150,000 electric vehicle charge points across Europe by 2025." https://cleantechnica.com/2020/10/09/oil-giant-total-buys-londons-largest-ev-charging-network/ CLASSIC MGB ROADSTER IS A MODERN EV "The battery-powered MGBs are not conversions of vintage cars. Instead, the British firm RBW EV Classic Cars uses freshly minted bodies produced by British Motor Heritage. Underneath is a bespoke chassis with the engine mounted at the rear and the batteries located up front under the hood." says Autoblog; "The lithium-ion battery pack is by Hyperdrive Innovation, and the car is offered with six, seven, or eight batteries. Range is stated as 160 miles with the standard setup and 200 with the larger battery pack. A 3kW charger means a full recharge takes eight hours. The company says it intends to build 30 of the emissions-free roadsters, priced at 90,000 pounds (around $116,000). Besides the MG roadster, RBW plans to offer an electrified MGB GT hardtop as well, along with classic Minis." https://www.autoblog.com/2020/10/09/electric-classic-mgb-roadster/ SYSCO TESTS DAIMLER ELECTRIC TRUCK "Sysco is testing an all-electric Daimler Freightliner eCascadia, the food-service company said on Wednesday. Sysco, which runs the second-largest private fleet in the nation, said it is seeking to reduce its carbon footprint." according to UtilityDive: "The electric Class 8 tractor is making local and regional trips out of a San Francisco terminal, and will continue test runs through January, Sysco said. The test runs help Daimler, too, as Sysco said it is sending data and feedback to the OEM to assist in improving the design. Sysco said it is participating in Daimler's Freightliner Electric Vehicle Council, "a group of customers working with Freightliner to identify and address all potential hurdles to large-scale deployment of commercial battery electric vehicles."" https://www.utilitydive.com/news/Sysco-test-Daimler-electric-truck-Freightliner-eCascadia/586662/ You can listen to all 903 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. Show #810 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 15th June 2020. LUCID: DON'T CALL US "TESLA KILLERS" "With a brand-new, state-of-the-art factory nearing completion in the Southwest desert and an energy-dense battery pack using cylindrical cells, it's all-too tempting to set up a rivalry between Lucid Motors and Tesla. Heck, it's a trope that we've been guilty of using in the past." says Ars Technica: "But it's a bad take, according to Peter Rawlinson, Lucid's CEO and CTO. "Please don't describe us as a Tesla killer," he told me. "The world's big enough that we can both thrive and prosper alongside each other.". the Air will use a 900V electrical architecture, higher than even the Porsche Taycan. Rawlinson said that the Air has also moved to a new in-house silicon carbide inverter, as well as a switch from induction to permanent magnet motors front and rear. The Air's cylindrical lithium-ion cells will be made by LG Chem, but Lucid has designed and will build the packs itself. And Formula E has contributed to the management of the packs—Lucid supplies batteries to all the teams in that race series. The company's experience in Formula E has taught it a lot about predictive modeling of degradation." Peter Rawlinson was VP on Vehicle Engineering at Tesla before 2013. He said: "They're our own design, which is very innovative—they've got very low cogging torque, so ultra-efficient. We've got our own epicyclic reduction transmission, our own differential, all which is super-innovative, state of the art. The rotor will spin to 20,000rpm, and each of those in standard form is rated at 600hp (447kW)," he said, adding that the combined motor, gearbox, differential, and inverter weighs in at just 160lbs (73kg). The key metric is volumetric power density, which is creeping up very close to 17kW per liter," Rawlinson told me. "And I think that's unprecedented—that's twice as good as any competitor out there that I'm aware of. That's a cornerstone of what we've done with LG Chem now in our production supply agreement. We've worked with them to help develop the cell chemistry to a much higher standard, particularly making it degrade less as a consequence of repeated fast charging. That's important because the 900V architecture has been developed very much with our fast-charge network partner Electrify America in mind." The same strategy was used by the company’s engineers and test drivers in November last year, and they’ve done it again. This time around, however, they’ve disguised the all-electric crossover to look like a Kia." says Motor1.com: "According to preliminary information, power will be provided by two electric motors for a combined output of approximately 302 horsepower. The battery electric vehicle should be capable of covering up to 310 miles (500 kilometers) in the WLTP test at a single charge, which will be around 277 miles in the EPA evaluation." https://www.motor1.com/news/428784/vw-id4-spied-again/ 2021 TOYOTA RAV4 PRIME VS 2020 FORD ESCAPE PHEV SPEC COMPARISON Price Ford: SE PHEV retails for $33,040, while the others are priced at $35,620 and $38,835 respectively. RAV4: Pricing has not yet been shared though we assume it will start around the $40k mark in the US, and somewhere between $47,000 and $50,000 in Canada. "The Toyota RAV4 Prime is meant to do it all. The Prime is based on the Hybrid’s 2.5-litre 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine however the hybrid is further boosted by the more powerful motor-generators and new high-capacity 17.8-kWh Lithium-Ion battery increase system output to 302-horsepower, from 219." says Motor Illustrated: "Part of the setup is an electric motor on the rear axle that has no physical link to the front. This second motor is standard on all RAV4 Hybrid and Prime thus all are AWD. Performance is plentiful with a 0-100 km/h time of only 6.2 seconds (0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds). Fun fact: This makes the RAV4 Prime the second fastest accelerating Toyota after the GR Supra. The combined fuel consumption rating of 2.6Le/100km, or 90 MPGe. The battery-only range is 67 kilometers, or 42 miles. The 2020 Ford Escape PHEV is different in that it is FWD only, contrary to the Hybrid version, which will prove to be an obstacle for much of Canada and the Northern regions of the US. It too is powered by an Atkinson-cycle 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine and it, with the associated electric motor, produces a total system output of 221-horsepower. The 14.4-kWh battery-only range is rated at least 48 kilometers in Canada, or 37 miles in the US." The high-speed electric vehicle charging network will also announce an additional eight charging station locations expected to open throughout the province by the end of this year." says Tom Molougney for InsideEVs: "Electrify Canada already has four charging station sites open in Ontario, with fifteen more in the planning stage in Ontario and Quebec, so it's good to see the western part of the country finally getting some love also. Electrify Canada's first phase of deployment includes the installation of a total of 32 charging station sites. Those include the nineteen in Quebec and Ontario and thirteen in Alberta and British Colombia." https://insideevs.com/news/428806/electrify-canada-expands-british-columbia/ TESLA RECEIVES APPROVAL TO BECOME AN ELECTRIC UTILITY PROVIDER IN THE UK "Tesla has officially been granted an electricity generation license in the United Kingdom, in response to the electric car maker’s application last April. Reports indicate that the approval paves the way for Tesla to establish a virtual power plant in the region, which would be managed by its custom Autobidder software, a real-time trading and control platform that enables power producers to monetize battery assets." says Simon at TEslarati: "The UK’s recent approval for Tesla’s application is a noteworthy milestone for Tesla Energy, whose potential remains largely untapped. Tesla Energy is a big business, and it builds on two of the company’s most prominent strengths: software and batteries. This is one of the reasons why Tesla’s big battery in South Australia, the Hornsdale Power Reserve, has been so successful. The massive Powerpack farm is managed by Autobidder, the same system that the company is reportedly poised to utilize in the UK." https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-energy-utility-provider-application-uk-approved/ FORD MUSTANG MACH-E CUSTOMERS TO RECEIVE 250 KWH ELECTRIFY AMERICA CREDIT Ford Mustang Mach-E owners will receive 250 kilowatt-hours of complimentary charging through FordPass Rewards at Electrify America fast-charging stations to kick-start their electric vehicle experience with Ford. For Mustang Mach-E owners with the extended-range battery, the 250 kilowatt-hours of fast- charging energy is equal to more than three fill-ups. For standard-range battery models, the 250 kilowatt-hours of fast charging energy is equal to more than five fill-ups. This is in addition to the two years of complimentary access Mustang Mach-E customers automatically receive to the recently expanded FordPass Charging Network for easy pay-as-you-go charging. Electrify America’s network, part of the FordPass Charging Network, offers the largest number of high-powered public charging stations on the market today. 100 KWH TESLA MODEL 3 APPEARS ONLINE "We learned late last year from Twitter user @greentheonly that Tesla’s Model 3 firmware had contained references to a 100 kWh battery pack since at least March of 2019. Speculation was interesting at the time, but no Model 3 vehicles had been found to include that size battery pack." writes The Street.com: "That may have changed today, with Twitter user @zeus7f1 sharing a screenshot of a Tesla Model 3 display in Factory Mode. While a screenshot like this could be easily faked, the pack size is listed as 100 kWh here." 33% more energy. Long LONG Range? @greentheonly: I know they exist. Was hoping to get direct access to one soon, but it looks like you beat me to it ;) Elon took to Twitter to DENY the pack was in development. So...it's done?!
Web Dealextreme: www.dx.com Web Volumerate: www.volumerate.com LG Dominic
PowEp001 - Brief Intro into our Off Grid System In the first of the PowerCut episodes of the podcast a brief introduction to our Off Grid System is given. ~~~ DISCLAIMER ~~~ Every Off Grid system and experience is going to be unique. The components we have in our system were selected by us to suit our budget and purpose. Our challenges partly relate to our system not being large enough to comfortably sustain a modern home of our size and the number of people that dwell there. This is due to the fact that we have been building up our system over time since we went fully Off-Grid in 2011. We decided to go off-grid because the cost to connect to the grid and get power to our site was too expensive. We have a standard 3 bedroom home with a small office and attached garage, the entire house is fully insulated, we have double glazed windows, an open plan kitchen, dining and living area, a main bathroom, a separate W/C and the master bedroom features an en suite. There are a multitude of alternative setups you could have, however this is what we are working with. ** We do not offer advice on setting up Off Grid Systems, or have an affiliation with any of the suppliers mentioned below. ** Additional Notes / Tech Specifications to the Podcast: 12 Solar Panels - 1 @ 190 watts, 11 @ 200 watts 16 x 225AH 6V Crown wet cell batteries wired in series for a 24V system - 4 batteries to each series. Our house runs on the NZ Standard of 230/240V AC (50Hz) not on DC power. The Outback components are the: Regulator / Charge Controller - is the 80amp FLEXMax 80 A 3kW Inverter Charger - Vented GVFX3024E (50Hz) *( If you follow the link you will notice that our model of inverter / charger has been discontinued and the new version can be found here : VFXR3024E ) We have the MATE for the FLEXMax80 in our main living/dining area for easy access to monitor the power and from there we can turn the generator on when required. The Generator we have is a 6kVA Diesel Silent Generator. Wagener Fairburn Woodrange - we have the model in the image featured at the top of the page: The 'Wagener Fairburn on legs' The hot water cylinder connected to the wetback has the 3kW element and I will need to confirm the total capacity. The Fridge we have is the LG 450L bottom mount refrigerator which uses 299kWh / year. As for other high energy consuming appliances, we do also have a microwave I forgot to menton which uses 1000kW - this is only used occasionally and like all our other appliances: If an appliance is not in use, they are switched off. No appliances are left on 'standby mode' (such as the t.v. - it is switched off at the wall). Podcast Notes MacroFab will be at the Houston Maker Faire this weekend. Stop by and meet us! The FX Dev board's crowd funding campaign is almost ready to launch. The video for it is in post production now. It is awesome and Stephen can't wait to upload it. The fixture Parker designed for the selective solder is working. Allows 16"x16" panels on the machine while supporting the middle with a magnet. Stephen has been adjusting the machine to make it fit. See Figure 1. Parker's LED clock idea will need some slight revising after he did a bit of napkin math and realized his clock will take almost 3kW of power to light up all the segments. The MacroDuino Light Tower will be at Maker Faire. It is using a TGS2602 to measure VOC levels in the air. Stephen needs to repair his Hakko FR-300 Desoldering Gun. Unfortunately Hakko does not sell the part he needs. Visual Guide to the Best Hacker T-Shirts. The MacroFab shirt is missing from this collection. We must fix that! See Figure 2. Samsung can’t catch a break. Top loading washing machines exploding. The washing machine top can unexpectedly detach from the washing machine chassis during use, posing a risk of injury from impact. SciShow Space. This is the channel Stephen mentioned. Video about the Pioneer probes being off course. Special thanks to whixr over at Tymkrs for the intro and outro!
