In today's episode, Ann Kaplan, parenting coach, and I sit down to share real stories of our own parenting experiences. I polled my IG followers as well as a few of the great dads that I know and love and had them tell me what they struggle with the most as a dad. Those questions/situations were then discussed (anonymously of course), on this episode. We also dive into parenting with connection while also keeping discipline as a pillar of parenting well. If you are a parent, and especially a dad, I think you'll get a lot of great nuggets, community and confidence out of this episode. In this episode, Ann and I discuss what it means to be a good parent and ask if we can get rid of the right wrong paradigm. "I know you; I see you. And I've been you." After working with parents for over a decade and raising 4 of her own kids, Ann has seen it all and lived through half of it herself. She knows the cycle of committing to being the parent your child deserves, losing control, feeling awful, and committing to being better next time. She has seen the yelling, power struggles, and confusion. She knows all about the uselessness of threatening, bribing, bargaining, and lecturing. And, most of all, Ann knows how powerless, lost, defeated, overwhelmed, and ashamed parenthood can make us feel. Luckily, she also knows that you absolutely can turn your relationship with your child around and that peaceful, well-behaved, and respectful kids aren't just for the lucky few. It's never too late to get involved with your kids.Take the time to disentangle yourself from your children while they try to figure out how to deal with the challenges that they have and fix their brokenness. It is not your job as a parent to fix your kids.Kids find it hard to say no to adults or their parents, and if we don't do everything we can on our end to create a safe space for them to discuss, they will just keep saying yes when they don't feel the motivation or the drive that they're expressing.    About Ann Kaplan: Ann has 4 kids of her own and has lived the dream and difficulty of parenting through every childhood stage, from infancy through adolescence. She is also a Love&Logic (TM) independent facilitator and a life coach. How can we queer up the countryside? No need, says Joe Jukes (Brighton University), it's already gay as folk! In this arcadian episode, Joe teaches me all about the dynamic nature of the countryside, about rural erotics and counter urbanization, and about how all of this relates to asexuality and non-sexualities in their research. If you want to learn about queers in the wild (and if you want to hear what my village-dwelling nan thinks about my urbanite sexual identity), this idyllic little podcast is for you!Do you need more country in your feed?
