On the way to a recent round of the Australian Rally Championship, Rusty caught up with Hall of Famer Ed Ordynski. The result is nearly three hours of epic conversation that you're going to love. Ed's story isn't just for rally enthusiasts. In this episode, you'll hear captivating tales about Supercars, the gruelling Round Australia trial with the legendary Peter Brock, and what it takes to be a complete champion. Ed shares sage advice that he hasn't widely disclosed until now! This is a Motorsport life well lived. From the magazine coverage of the Monte Carlo Rally that captivated him as a kid to scraping together enough money for an underpowered Corolla to rally in as a long-haired, flair-wearing student, to taming the wild Mazda RX2, and participating in a course with star drivers like Colin Bond that helped turn his career around—there was no looking back from that point on. There were crashes galore and mind-numbing speeds – what a weekend we had in rallying! In the Queensland sunshine, Scott Pedder took his first Australian Rally Championship victory in 10 years, while his co-driver, Glenn Macneall, broke a startling drought of his own. On this week's Special Stage Rally Podcast, we discuss what was a horror weekend for Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia, with all three of their GR Yaris' going off the road with varying degrees of seriousness. The pace of this year's ARC has risen remarkably and we dissect what this means for the remainder of the series, which still has three rounds to run! Over in Europe, Rally Poland saw a thrilling battle for victory between the Toyotas of Kalle Rovanpera and Elfyn Evans, and the Hyundai of Andreas Mikkelsen. There was also the stunning Rally1 debut of Latvian young gun, Martins Sesks. The action continues this week as we preview the fast and yumpy Rally Estonia, the fourth round of the European Rally Championship. While you may be suffering from the winter blues, we've got all the rally action covered on another bumper episode of the Special Stage Rally Podcast. They've made it through the tough Canberra roads and the ball-bearing West Australian gravel, but the challenge of Queensland just might top them both for Australian Rally Championship competitors this weekend. Joining the RallySport Magazine team for this week's preview is former Subaru factory driver and ARC TV man, Dean Herridge, who gives his unique insight into the state of play in the championship. Herridge joins Luke and Peter Whitten to discuss the event that's growing in stature after its return to the series in 2021. The tricky and often rough roads around Gympie will be the challenge, and that's all after a huge 'Wheels on Mary' street party on Friday night in front of thousands. Also briefly discussed is the Nissan Nightmoves and Southern Lights events and Paraguay's introduction into the World Rally Championship. Could Neal Bates really match it with his sons at ARC level in a GR Yaris? That's one of the questions we pose on this week's Special Stage Rally Podcast. We chat to Bega Valley Rally winner Riley Walters about his recent success and his rally plans for the future, and discuss the back-flip by the FIA and the WRC that has seen them extend the current Rally1 Hybrid cars' life until the end of 2026. Rally of Bathurst road director, John McCredie, joins us to talk about plans for this November's event, while also enlightening us on their ambitions on joining next year's Australian Rally Championship calendar. We also look forward to this weekend's Royal Rally of Scandinavia and Hayden Paddon's chances of winning against the might of local hero Oliver Solberg. Rob's been a commentator over the years (can you tell?), and he loves a good story, so we're only just shifting into second gear in this chat! Discover how Herridge jumped into rallying on a whim, convinced he was world champion material on the very first transport stage! Learn about the Datsun 1600 that started it all, his near switch to Mitsubishi, and the ultimate move to Subaru, sparking a partnership that's lasted for decades. We recorded this episode in the workshop, surrounded by cars Rob has worked on and won in. The attachment to some of them is understandable, especially when you hear the story of how Rob clinched his second Australian title before officially receiving the first. Despite a lengthy and draining court battle, he never gave up. Thank you to everyone who has downloaded and listened to the show, and the rally fans, from all over the world, who emailed me to share their enthusiasm for rallying and motorsport in general. It's been great fun producing the show over the last two years. Bruce. The last WRC event of 2007 and Marcus Gronholm's 150th and final event.Marcus didn't get the fairy-tale ending he'd hoped for. A strong second place behind team-mate Mikko Hirvonen was the best he could muster, while Sebastien Loeb hung on for third place, good enough to claim the 2007 drivers title.Rally Wales really threw the conditions at the crews, the rain and mud made even more difficult by stages run in darkness. And after an off late on day one, Jari-Matti Latvala showed just what he could do by winning the bulk of the stages on the final two days. There's a new generation of drivers waiting to take centre-stage, but 2007 will go down as one of the classic years in WRC history. Photos courtesy of Taz and Estoril. And don't forget to check out Phil Wilson's great sequence of Andreas Mikkelsen's stage 9 roll.Music this week from:Los Campesinos - You! Me! Dancing! Rather than offer some obvious comparisons, we'll just tell you that this band plays songs that are kind of melodic, maybe even 'joyous'.You can purchase Los Campesinos from eMusic, and this track comes courtesy of Arts & Crafts.Howard Jones - Just Look At You Now. It was in 1983 that Howard Jones released his first single ‘New Song’ in the UK. The expectation was that it might sell a few thousand copies and introduce his fresh new music to an unsuspecting world. The reality was quite different. His second album spawned a series of hits including ‘Like To Get To Know You Well’, ‘Look Mama’, ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ and the classic ‘No One Is To Blame’ which reached No.1 in the U.S. singles chart and has since had over 3 million radio plays in USA.Background music: Cargo Cult - 'Helium' (courtesy of Magnatune). Gronholm's exit on stage 4 opened the door for Loeb to take a six point lead in the championship with just one round to go.With Dani Sordo safely in second place, Jari-Matti Latvala pushed up into third place, while Mikko Hirvonnen stayed out of trouble in fourth, capturing enough points for Ford to take their second Manufacturers Championship. The attrition rate was high, giving some of the series less visible competitors the chance to shine.Mikko Hirvonen and Dani Sordo finished 1-2 for Ford and Citroen, while Henning Solberg and Matthew Wilson put in a great finish for Stobart, just ahead of Luis Perez Companc and Federico Villagra in the Munchis cars.
