Man, what a season finale! From Pennywise the Dancing Fox to the destructive force of balefire, from Nynaeve's Moana moment to the creepiest corpse I've seen, from Rand dancing on a knife's edge of egomania & madness to the end of two separate years-long relationships of Power-crossed lovers, this was a huge episode.Join Greg and Veronica as they EXTENSIVELY talk about all things "He Who Comes With the Dawn" related, and close out another turning of the Wheel. This is a long one, and we hope you enjoy hearing about it as much as we enjoyed talking about it.Thank you for all of your interaction this season, we will come back when we hear an update to how the next few seasons will go.And due to a technical faux pas, we want to apologize that we are missing a number of comments from a "too early" spoiler thread, so unfortunately we lost those comments to the Black Wind.Check out this podcast and other great shows at podcastica.com.If you would like to leave feedback, you can leave comments on the comment post at facebook.com/podcastica, send an email or voice note to talk@podcastica.com, or leave a voice message for us right there at Podcastica.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Ohio-born, North Carolina-based singer-songwriter and poet, Wes Tirey has been releasing music for well over a decade now with such titles like "O, Annihilator", "Black Wind", "No Winners in the Blues" and his most recent effort entitled "Wes Tirey Sings Selected Works of Billy the Kid", that came out on Sun Cru earlier this summer. Based on the 1970 novel by Michael Ondaatje, Tirey successfully manifested the timeless spirit of Billy the Kid, while simultaneously narrating the landscape of an old American legend that is both infamous and melodically told. On this episode of the podcast we expore Tirey's past, present and future in music, iconic influences in the arts, his career in coffee culture, our mutual obsession with Dylan, literature and its romantic impact on society, his writing and recording process and much more.

The foundation was set up to help marginalised communities become human resource specialists. Nasreen takes us through the learning process and Jan and Óran need to decide if Stuart should go on the course.   Stuart just upgraded his iPhone to 15.4 and we hear about 2 new cool features related to COVID. You can now add your COVID cert to the Wallet app and Face ID can recognise your face even when wearing a mask. If you want to read about all the new features, MacRumors.com has a good article. And newbie Debbie asks about the guys blinging up their Svarovski canes (www.Svarovski.cz)??   Do you know about What 3 words? Have a look here: www.What3words.com - it might just save your life if you get lost in the attic.   Clodagh told us of a documentary she worked on many years ago about the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The Wheel of Time Episode 7 "The Dark Along The Ways" Synopsis and Details Based on the book series The Wheel of Time created by Robert Jordan Showrunner: Rafe Lee Judkins Episode Directed by: Ciaran Donnelly Episode Written by: Amanda Kate Shuman and Katherine B. McKenna Story Editors: Michael Clarkson and Paul Clarkson Staff writer Celine Song Long ago, on a snowy volcanic mountain a warrior Aiel defends herself against soldiers during the Battle of the Shining Wars as she attempts to give birth to her child. Killing the soldiers but mortally wounded an enemy soldier, named Tam Al'Thor, helps her deliver her new born son as she dies from her wounds. In the present Mat Cauthon is left behind as the group make their way through the Ways to Fal Dara, but they are not alone. The Ways have been corrupted and darkened by the Darkspawn who have used the ancient passages as a means of travelling through the world. At a vandalised Way guide, the group rest as Loial tries to decipher its directions to their destination, where they are attacked by a Trolloc. But the use of the One Power in the Ways unleashes the Black Wind or Machin Shin. As they race to make it to the Fal Dara Waygate they are enveloped by the Black Wind which speaks to them about their past, present and future. They escape the Machin Shin after Nyneave deploys her use of the One Power to hold it back and they make it to Fal Dara, an ancient fortress that defends the Westlands against the encroachment of the Blight and the forces of the Dark One. But after a drink at the local Inn, where Moiraine employs a gifted landlady, a Seer, to read the companions' weave, tensions begin to spill out between Rand, Nynaeve, Egwene and Perrin after Moiraine tells them she is unclear who among them is the Dragon Reborn and of the mortal danger they are in if they are not the Dragon. As they spend time with their own thoughts in Fal Dara, Nynaeve begins to get to know Lan's past staying the night with him, while Egwene and Rand make amends after their falling out over Mat and Perrin. The next day as the companions begin to assemble for their journey through the Blight to the Eye of the World two of their party are missing Moiraine and Rand. Earlier as the others slept and with the words of the Black Wind echoing in his head, Rand's memories and thoughts coalesce around those of his rescue of his wounded father at the Two Rivers, his escape from the Dark Friend in Breen's Spring and the attack in the Ways a single thought enters his mind, I am the Dragon Reborn. In this episode we get introduced to The Ways and promptly look for the exit, the gang travel all the way to Fal Dara in the Borderlands where an army of Shadowspawn are gathering at Tarwin's Gap, and we get a big exposition dump from ol' Padan Fain. This is the last setup before the final climax, so naturally we get completely sidetracked by the history of Malkier and the horror poetry of Machin Shin. It’s about time! Hailed as one of the greatest JRPG experiences of all time, and for good reason, Chrono Trigger’s the complete package for all gamers. Therefore, Justin and Mike bring in a special guest who not only is a huge fan of the game and it’s stellar soundtrack, but also named his podcast after a song title: Drew Mackie of Singing Mountain. Drew joins the XVGM Radio boys for a celebration of the ages, as they discuss the 25th anniversary of the game as of today (Yes, we’re breaking schedule to release on the official 25th birthday of Chrono Trigger!) What transpires is a nostalgic trip into the past full of name corrections, Mike sharing the track that made him cry, and of course our overlord Lavos screech discussions (Praise Lavos, of course.) Grab your Masamune, your bowls of Eyes Cream and prepare to howl with the Black Wind, as we celebrate 25 years of this milestone game!

F.Paul Wilson is the bestselling author of science fiction and Horror. He is one of my all-time favorite writers, and since I read The Keep in the 8th grade I have been a devoted fan. This is NOT an interview. In 2017 when this was recorded I was preparing to teach a class on writing horror novels at the Horrible imaginings Film Fest here in San Diego. My part of the class was about writing outlines for plot and structure. I had taken a class on the subject with F. Paul Wilson at the Borderlands Writers Boot Camp but that was not the only reason I wanted to talk with him. Marvel has the MCU and Wilson has The Secret History. It spans almost three-book series, a trilogy, and several stand-alone novels and Short Stories. Starting in his novels Black Wind and The Keep (on my top ten horror novels of all time list) and ends in the novel Night World. That one book is the sixth novel of one series (Adversary Cycle) and fifteenth of another series(Repairman Jack). I read the whole secret history as it was in 2012, and it is one of my all-time favorite reading experiences. It is the most insanely interweaving saga constructed in fiction that I have ever seen. Equal to or even surpassing King's Dark Tower when you talk about a single author interweaving most of their work. He is at it again with a new addition to Adversary Cycle in 2020 called Signalz. (Check out his new interview on the Horror Show With Brian Keene for details on that book) So this not an interview, just an open discussion about plotting. Note the book Paul was working on was The God Gene, and he talks about changes he was making the day this was recorded. Enjoy. •You can find my books here: Amazon-https://www.amazon.com/David-Agranoff/e/B004FGT4ZW •And me here: Goodreads-http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2988332.David_Agranoff Twitter-https://twitter.com/DAgranoffAuthor Blog-http://davidagranoff.blogspot.com/

Perrin keeps his ears sharp as he rides through the Ways. He knows he'll be the first person to hear a wind rise, signifying the imminent death of everyone in the party, including himself. There is no outrunning the Black Wind. The rising tension between Faile and Perrin comes to a crescendo (of spanking) early in this chapter. As the small group arrives at the Manetheren gate, Perrin hears and smells a group of trollocs moving behind them, headed in the same direction as the humans. But, the trollocs are being pursued as well, by Machin Shin. Perrin and company manage to fend off the shadowspawn long enough to get through the gate and back into the real world, just in time to watch their pursuers be consumed in a cacophony of terrifying screams. Loial locks the Waygate behind him, cutting off any possibility of the trollocs and myrrdraal escaping. As the group makes camp in the mountains above Emonds Field, Perrin sees his first signs of Slayer. When Juin ushers the humans in, there are Seven Ogier Elders who greet Rand, Verin, Ingtar, and the others. We talk about how old these Ogier are and what they look like. There are some wonderful descriptions, especially of Alar, the Eldest. The Eldest of Stedding Tsofu understands the great need our party has to use their Waygate, but the Ogier do not believe in acting with out consideration. Finding the Horn of Valere is a great need indeed, as is saving Mat's life, but Alar takes the time to explain to Verin, Rand, and Ingtar what could happen to them should the encounter the Black Wind. She then has a middle aged Ogier brought out, who was the last Ogier to travel the ways over a hundred years ago. He returned to Stedding Tsofu without a soul or a mind, but with his body intact. Verin hisses audibly when she delves the Ogier. Alar also brings up Loial to Rand. She can sense that Rand is Ta'veren and questions whether Loial has been pulled into Rand's Web of the Pattern. “You will look after him” Alar instructs Rand “And, when the weaving is done, you will return him to Stedding Shangtai”. Rand agrees, and in return Alar agrees to bring the Humans to her Waygate. Erith gives Loial a flower, which we think we can confirm, he carries for the rest of the series, or at least until he is married. When the Party arrives at Tsofu's Waygate.  Machin Shin is already waiting there for Rand. After coming into contact with Padan Fain, Machin Shin is also now compelled to hunt Rand Al'Thor, and it will be for the rest of the series. Without access to the Ways, Rand's party quickly comes to the conclusion that another Portal Stone must be used. Luckily there is one nearby. Life is interesting with Ta'veren for friends. Hurin tells us a bit about the gossip in the servant's quarters. We talk about Rand’s creeping insanity, how that increasingly affects him as time goes on, and we speculate on when it begins. Hurin leads Rand and Loial to the stone enclosure that hides the Waygate. When Rand opens the gate to see if Hurin’s Talent works within the Ways, Machin Shin is there waiting for them, whispering Rand’s name. We talk more about how the interaction between Padan Fain and the Black Wind changed both. The Black Wind tries to escape the ways to attack Rand, but he manages to hold it back with Saidin while Loial closes the Gate. The party leaves Barthanes’ Manor, shortly before he’s assassinated. Rand and the party arrive at Barthanes' manor. Each person there has a purpose, Mat and Hurin's is to be disguised as servants and search the mansion for the Horn and the trail of the ones who stole it. Their unannounced presence causes quite a stir. We analyze Rand's conversation with Barthanes. Rand thinks he's making small talk, but everything that comes out of his mouth appears to be a deft maneuver in the Great Game to Barthanes. There's so much going on in this conversation, Galldrian's reliance on imported Andoran grain, and his obsession with expensive projects that make him appear more powerful, are perceived by Barthanes as weaknesses. Mat and Hurin find the trail of the Horn and Fain. It leads right up to a Waygate in Barthanes' garden. Rand talks to Thom Merrilin who happens to be there as an entertainer. They have an enlightening conversation which also sets off an important chain of events, specifically Dena's death, which is what leads Thom to eventually lend his support to the Dragon. We talk about the previous contact between the Black Wind, Padan Fain, AND Mordeth. Each interaction between these ancient evils changes and enhances their nature. Verin and Barthanes talk as well, we wish we knew what was said. The innkeeper arrives at Rands door with more invitations.  This time from the two most powerful houses in Cairhien.  Hurin explains that these invitations can not be ignored.  Rand has to accept at least one, or assassins will start coming after him.  There is no way out of the city without being attacked by Fain.  The longer they stay, the deeper Rand becomes tangled in Daes Daes'mar.  When Rand leaves the inn to see if Ingtar and the Shienarans have arrived to bail him out, he returns to find that it's now a structure fire.  Hurin was attacked, and the chest stolen.  Loial and Rand manage to drag his unconscious form out of the building, saving him from being burned alive.  Verin, Mat, Perrin, and the Shienarans arrive just a few minutes too late.  We talk about how Rand has fallen into the leadership role Moiraine placed him in.  Barthanes's manner was built in the last few years right on top of an Ogier Grove.  It has it's own Waygate and that's where Fain is headed with the Horn and the Dagger, with the Black Wind to guard his retreat.  While Ingtar despairs over the Horn, Rand tells Verin about the portal stone, and Selene.  Does Verin know that Selene is Lanfear?  She has all the clues, and has often understood more with less information. She DOES manage to come up with the strategy though, that will eventually get the Horn back.  We believe the Pattern won't let Ingtar get to the Horn, ever.  Was Barthanes at the infamous Darkfriend social? Was Verin?  Could Rand have channeled using only the Choedan Kal with out the access key, is that possible?   So many new patrons volunteering to send the Podcast to JordanCon We're more than halfway to our monthly goal.  Thank you to everyone supporting us. How much of China’s nationalism is rooted in the “century of humiliation” that the country suffered at the hands of Western countries and Japan between 1839 and 1949? Jeremy and Kaiser spoke with two eminent scholars of nationalism in Russia and China to find out. Charles Clover is a correspondent with the Financial Times based in Beijing, and author of Black Wind, White Snow: The Rise of Russia's New Nationalism. The continuing cultural legacy of Cold War relations between the Soviet Union and Africa is the subject of Red Africa, a season of film, art exhibition, talks and events, runs at Calvert 22 in London while at the same time Unexpected Eisenstein, a new exhibition at GRAD gallery in London, tells the story of the anglophile tendencies of a the great Soviet film-maker, Sergei Eisenstein. Eisenstein, whose epic and patriotic films Battleship Potemkin, Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible, together constitute a visual retrospective of Russian power, was himself hugely influenced by British writers from Shakespeare to Dickins. But as Anne McElvoy hears, the director went on to influence generations of British artists and film-makers, one legacy of his six-week sojourn in London in 1929. It was, as Christie explains, a trip ordered but not precisely sponsored, by Stalin. Producer: Jacqueline Smith
