Darren discussed these topics:Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was removed as Speaker of the House by Democrats and a handful of extreme right wing Republicans. This marked the first time a sitting Speaker was removed from his position. Is there someone that the Republicans can coalesce around for Speaker?Judge Arthur Engoron slapped a gag order on Donald Trump after he posted on social media a photo of a member of the judge's staff posing with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Could Trump be looking at jail for his next outburst?Nearly 75,000 health care workers went on strike against Kaiser Permanente for better wages and to end staff shortages. The UAW strike against the Big Three Detroit automakers continues. An economic group released a report detailing how the strike is affecting the U.S. economy.Republicans in Wisconsin's Senate are working hard to stop fair elections in the state. The Michigan Republican Party paid just over $74,000 to a business with ties to Ottawa Impact founder and Ottawa County Board Chair Joe Moss. Neither the party nor Moss will say what the payment was for.Ottawa County Commissioner Jacob Bonnema has accused Ottawa Impact aligned commissioners with violating Michigan's Open Meetings Act. Bonnema told MLive that there's an "off the books" committee called the Chairs Committee that meets to discuss policy. The county attorney said the meetings are fine because there's no quorum of commissioners requiring open meetings. But the OMA says differently. And after the passing of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Darren thinks there should be age limits on politicians, with medical checks in place to remove politicians who mentally can't do the job anymore.Hammer Time: New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers showed his immaturity by calling Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce "Mr. Pfizer." We are all responsible for fulfilling the Great Commission and sharing the gospel with others. But for Austin and Tate Bonnema, that calling meant taking a bold step forward and becoming full-time missionaries in Africa. As a young married couple, they built a home and a ministry in Zambia that serves as a testament to God's call on their lives. On this latest episode of Unapologetic, Austin and Tate share their inspiring story with their friend Julia, creating an atmosphere of warmth and familiarity that felt like a chat with friends. During the conversation, the couple discussed their journey to becoming missionaries, their daily work in Zambia, and their love story. Julia opened up the space to discuss how “God has called every Christian to evangelize” no matter where you live, encouraging listeners and viewers to pursue their callings. The Bonnemas added their own words of inspiration, reminding us all that God has a plan for our lives and a purpose for our actions. Learn more about Overland Missions and how you can get involved on their website!
My friend, writer and speaker Lisa Bonnema, describes herself as woman who needed to feel control of motherhood. She micro-managed her children in order to feel good about their safety and care, and yes, it was exhausting. But when she found out that a neural defect had been detected in her third child at her 18-week sonogram, her mothering world was turned upside down. There was nothing micro-management could do to change the diagnosis, and now she had a choice - to go into complete overdrive regarding controlling her daughter's life, or transition to complete and total surrender of it all.And in this episode, Lisa shares her journey to the surrender of her children, her motherhood, and encourages every single woman listening to do the very same thing. What you'll hear:Lisa's story of receiving the news about her daughters neural defect. My story of my daughter's fight to live as a premature baby and how God helped me surrender her to him.The scripture that Lisa's battle cry while preparing for her daughter's birth and after she arrived. Why it now feels easier for Lisa to walk in surrender towards her daughter than the other seemingly smaller parts of her life.CONNECT WITH LISAHer website: lisabonnema.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/lisabonnemaspeaker***********************************The Refreshed Moms Starter Kit - Making a Rest Plan Free Mini-CourseYou can turn business burnout around, and it begins with knowing how to rest. This mini-course includes very short video lessons on the 7 ways to rest, my Rest Needs Quiz, and the Graceful Transitions Meditation for Moms.Enroll by clicking here.Work with me in the Nurture to Convert SocietyWhen creating your refreshed mom lifestyle, generating consistent income that feels absolutely rewarding contributes to your rest.Work with me and my good friend Dana Malstaff of Boss Mom™ in the Nurture to Convert Society, the only proven business building membership designed for mom entrepreneurs to help you make a full-time income in 15 hours a week - and you can get started for just $47.Learn more about the Nurture to Convert Society here.Join my Facebook Community, Spiritual Rest with Refreshed MomsCome nurture your faith with me as we share around scripture, come together in small group discussions, and co-work together as we make room for focused productivity. Ashley Ballou-Bonnema was featured on CBS Sunday Morning, with Jane Pauley. That's when I saw her, and screamed from the couch! I backed up the program to get her name, and knew that I had to get in touch with her. She shined so brightly in that moment, as she says on her Breathe Bravely website, she was "Giving voice to CF."Ashley's brother also had CF. She describes how life was growing up with a brother who wasn't diagnosed for the first 7 years of his life, and how it affected her parents' marriage. Ashley's brother was very sick and, as she'll tell you, it took a toll on her mental health as well.Having a chronic and fatal disease is no fun, but it has given her strength and purpose. Ashley will tell us about her marriage to her high school sweetheart, a challenging health journey through her college years, and coming out on the other side with her foundation, Breathe Bravely. On KRDO's "The Extra" Thursday, guest Michelle Peulen, CDOT Region 2 Communications Manager, introduced listeners to Janet Bonnema, CDOT engineer and women’s rights advocate. In honor of Women's History Month, Peulen shared the legacy of how Bonnema fought to become a Colorado Department of Highways (CDH) engineer working at the Eisenhower Johnson Tunnel in 1970, eventually going to court to be able to pursue the employment position. She persevered and continued to work in the tunnel, collecting samples and taking measurements, until the first bore's completion in 1973. Peulen also gave updates on the I -25 Gap Project, the US 50 and Purcell Interchange Project, as well as other updates impacting drivers in the region. For drivers needing travel information, she suggested they go to COtrip.org and for project updates, codot.gov/projects.
