The conversation also touches on the environmental perspective of Heath and how that ties into the creative act of walking for Catherine. As more and more companies operating in the pharmaceutical space are moving into cosmetics, the temptation is to think that life will be much easier from a regulatory and compliance perspective. However, while it is true that pharmaceuticals are more heavily regulated, this does not mean that cosmetics developers can rest on their laurels. The subtle lines between making marketing claims about cosmetics that are deemed allowable and those crossing the line into drug products can often be blurred. The wrong claims can cause a cosmetic product to be misbranded attracting unwanted attention from the US Food and Drug Administration. In this podcast with John Bailey and Catherine Bailey from EAS Consulting, we take a look at the various common compliance issues that can arise when jumping the boundary from drugs to cosmetics.
In this unique two-part episode we happily welcome back Thomas Dunn as a special guest and we are also joined by special guest Catherine Bailey, a devout Aggie Catholic herself. They join us on this two-part episode to discuss differences between, and in general the perspectives of, men and women. Whether it is a difference in getting ready for church or a gender-specific perspective on prayer, a wide range of topics is covered to help you better understand the opposite gender, but also to better understand yourself as son or daughter of God. This allows us to fully live into our masculinity or femininity, respectively, so that we can better live out our identities in the Lord and thus better give of ourselves to the world with a genuine, Christ-like love.
Catherine Bailey is a successful entrepreneur who embraces the idea of reinventing yourself. In this episode, Catherine shares her journey to co-founding Beauty Blender and the importance of following your passions.

In episode 29 UNP founder and curator Grant Scott is in his shed considering dyslexia amongst the photographic community, whether the expectation for writing to support photography is necessary, and where photographers are today with the moving image. Plus this week Grant re-visits a recorded conversation from 2011 with legendary photographer David Bailey. In this brief edited extract Bailey uses some strong language to deliver his thoughts on how people see him, the importance of cameras to photography, and the problems of achieving success early on in his career. As always with Bailey he doesn't mince his words! In 1959, Bailey became a photographic assistant at the John French studio, and in 1960, he was a contracted as a fashion photographer for British Vogue magazine. Along with Terence Donovan and Brian Duffy, Bailey captured and helped create the 'Swinging London' of the 1960s. The three photographers socialised with actors, musicians and royalty, and found themselves elevated to celebrity status, named by fellow photographer Norman Parkinson 'The Black Trinity'. 'Swinging London' was aptly reflected in his Box of Pin-Ups(1964): a box of poster-prints of 1960s celebrities including Terence Stamp, The Beatles, Mick Jagger, Jean Shrimpton, Cecil Beaton, Rudolf Nureyev, Andy Warhol and notorious East End gangsters, the Kray's. Strong objection to the presence of the Krays by fellow photographer, Lord Snowdon, was the major reason no American edition of the Box was released, and that a second British edition was not issued. Bailey's ascent at Vogue was meteoric and, at the height of his productivity, he shot 800 pages of Vogue editorial in one year. Since 1966, Bailey has also directed several television commercials and documentaries. From 1968 to 1971 he directed and produced TV documentaries titled Beaton, Warhol and Visconti. As well as fashion photography, Bailey photographed album sleeve art for musicians including The Rolling Stones. In 1976, Bailey co-published Ritz Newspaper. In 1985, he documented the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium. In 1995 he directed and wrote the South Bank Film The Lady is a Tramp featuring his wife Catherine Bailey. In 1998 he directed a documentary, Models Close Up, commissioned by Channel 4. In 2012, the BBC made a film of the story of his 1962 New York photoshoot with Jean Shrimpton, titled We'll Take Manhattan. He continues to work for a variety of editorial clients including Vogue and publish books of work from his archive and of new work. He does not have a website for his work. Today’s episode is all about how to create meaningless work Seriously, what could you do to make someone’s work utterly pointless? Think about the worst managers you have had. What did they do to make you dread going into work? I asked this question to my Positive Psychology students at City University in London this week. I can’t recall a more animated discussion. I’ll tell you my students’ answers later. First let’s hear what the research has to say Catherine Bailey and Adrian Madden researched meaning in work and concluded that there are 7 Deadly Sins to steer clear of. They interviewed 135 people working in 10 very different occupations ranging from lawyers to garbage collectors. This is what they found. The first and gravest sin is to disconnect people from their values. Force them do things they know are wrong. So imagine that you are boss trying to promote a product that worsens pollution. To commit this first and worst deadly sin all you have to do is ask a climate change campaigner in your team to lie about the benefits of this product Taking your employees for granted is the second sure way to reduce meaning in the workplace This one’s easy. Just never say good morning to your staff even if you are in the same lift . Also, remember never to thank them even when they’ve worked hard to achieve an important milestone. Deadly sin number three is to give people pointless work to do. This a no-brainer. All you need to do is arrange long meetings, have agenda items which are pretty irrelevant to most attendees, and then decide nothing. If you do decide something, make sure you don’t follow it through. A pretty meaningless waste of time, don’t you agree? The fourth deadly sin is to treat people unfairly. You will get ample opportunity to do this comes to pay-rise season. Give a pay rise to someone who is good at being friendly to management but bad at their job. That should do it. Overriding people’s better judgement is the fifth way to make work meaningless. Give people targets they can reach only by cutting corners. Sin number 6 is to disconnect people from supportive relationships. Make sure your staff work on their own, especially if they are inexperienced. Don’t bother to give then any training. The seventh deadly sin according to Madden and Bailey is to put people at risk of physical or emotional harm. Come winter time turn all the heating off and you can achieve this goal and save some money at the same time! My students argued convincingly that there are other good ways to prevent work from being meaningful. Find fault in everything, Say no to positive suggestions. Say one thing then do another. Remove interesting challenges These are all extra ways tht you can ruin even the most potentially meaningful job. So who was the worst manager you ever had when it comes to making work meaningless? How many of these deadly sins did they commit? Well, That’s all very interesting, you may be thinking, but is anything I can you do to make the workplace better? I’d suggest that sharing this podcast and its associated blog at http//blog.timlebon.com with some colleagues or, if you dare with your manager. Wishing you happiness, wisdom and meaning - until next time ... Read on https://www.employment-studies.co.uk/system/files/resources/files/mp118.pdf http://sro.sussex.ac.uk/61282/
Our girls are bombarded with messages every day there is only one way to be "female." Often these images and messages are over-sexualized and hyper-focused on appearance. When we host gender reveal parties that offer "Guns or Glitter," to the sexes, we rob children of the chance to be diverse, complicated humans; choosing instead how they will fulfill our gendered expectations. Think or Blue is a community of parents, teachers, grandparents and family members seeking a rainbow of options for children in a pink and blue world. Gender stereotypes start young, now in the womb, and impact the way we raise our children and the way children develop. The marketing of books, toys, and clothes has become increasingly gendered in the last couple of decades. Pink and blue are no longer colors; they have become personalities and lifestyles. If we stick to outdated stereotypes that girls are sweet, delicate and caring, while boys are active, adventurous leaders, we limit their potential as adults and as humans. Our Guest today is Catherine Bailey. Catherine is the founder of Think or Blue, a community of parents, teachers, and family who believe that children thrive best in a world free from gender stereotypes. Raised in the 1980's on Free to Be You and Me, Catherine has feminism running in her blood. A former lawyer, she works at a nonprofit organization that empowers and advocates for women and girls through direct service and policy advocacy on topics such as pay equity, paid family and medical leave, and preventing violence and harassment. With her sister, Jackie, she co-authored the 5 Day Reboot to Raising Confident Girls to help parents boost girls' body image, foster authenticity and individuality, and teach their children the power of advocacy and collective action.
