In this episode of the How to Protect the Ocean podcast, host Andrew Lewin discusses the recent COP28 and its outcomes. The major headline from the convention was the agreement to phase out fossil fuels, but there is little else to report. Andrew goes on to share five key takeaways from the Climate Change Summit, highlighting potential historic moments while emphasizing the need for continued work. The episode is sponsored by Conservation Careers, a platform that offers resources for those interested in conservation careers. Andrew also mentions taking a communications for conservation course through Conservation Careers and expresses his enthusiasm for it. Tune in to learn more about the outcomes of COP28 and how you can take action to protect the ocean. The host acknowledges that while these small steps may not immediately lead to the desired significant changes, they are crucial for progress to occur. It is emphasized that these small building blocks need to be a global effort, with the world approaching conservation together. The host draws a parallel between these small building blocks and the process of establishing a marine protected area. It is acknowledged that the initial boundaries may not be perfect and the management structure may not be the strongest, but it is essential to define the boundaries and start implementing management measures. Over time, improvements can be made, such as expanding the no-take reserve area, as exemplified by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Overall, the episode underscores the importance of incremental progress in conservation and recognizes that although it may not be as fast or aggressive as desired, it is still necessary and contributes to the overall goal of environmental protection. The episode also delves into the significance of the COP meetings in addressing climate change and fostering global collaboration. While the host may not be a huge fan of COP, it is acknowledged that these talks are necessary. It is emphasized that even though the progress made at these meetings may not be as fast or aggressive as desired, they serve as essential building blocks for addressing climate change on a global scale. The host mentions that the COP28 meeting in the United Arab Emirates had both positive and negative aspects. While some attendees felt exhausted and frustrated by the talk and "BS" that occurs, the episode highlights the positive outcomes that can arise from these meetings. For instance, major hotels converting to more sustainable practices demonstrate that progress can be achieved through collaboration and the exchange of ideas with investors, companies, and stakeholders. Overall, the episode suggests that despite the flaws and negativity associated with COP meetings, they play a crucial role in bringing together different parties to discuss and address climate change. They provide a platform for global collaboration and the exchange of ideas, ultimately contributing to progress in tackling climate change as a global entity. According to the podcast transcript, one of the key takeaways from COP28 is the significant presence of attendees linked to the fossil fuel industry at the summit. The transcript reveals that climate groups' analysis shows a record number of 2,456 individuals from the fossil fuel industry in attendance. The podcast also highlights controversies surrounding the COP28 president, Sultan Ahmad al-Jabir, who is the CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. Prior to the summit and during its opening days, over 130 legislators from the US and EU called for his removal. Additionally, he had to address backlash over comments questioning the need to phase out fossil fuels by emphasizing that he and the UAE respected climate science. This information raises concerns about the influence of corporate interests, particularly from the fossil fuel industry, on climate action at COP28. The significant number of attendees linked to the fossil fuel industry prompts questions about the extent to which their interests may impact the negotiations and decisions made at the summit.

The climate pact achieved at COP26 was woefully inadequate. We could be in for over four degrees Fahrenheit of warming this century over pre-industrial temperatures, and some scenarios would put us closer to eight degrees. In this episode, Paul Sutton shares his observations from Glasgow, and we get assessments from a few other noted experts. Policymakers are not willing to embrace any climate actions that give up economic growth, but economic growth virtually guarantees climate disaster. The bottom line: only drastic policy and behavior changes will avoid a very bleak future. Sutton is a Professor in the Department of Geography & the Environment at the University of Denver. He served as an official delegate for the American Association of Geographers (AAG) at the COP26 UN Climate Summit in Glasgow in early November of 2021. What You Need to Know is the Russia Hoax is getting clearer! The Russia Hoax is the political hit job by the Obama administration and FBI to target former President Donald Trump. It's becoming clearer that John Durham knows what happened — Steele dossier source arrested in Durham probe. More indictments mean they know they lied. Thanks to Durham, all the pieces are starting to go together. It's a good day because we are getting a clearer picture of the corrupt Russia Hoax! Dr. Ted Malloch, frequent contributor to American Greatness, talks about one of his recent articles Three Teacups and a Tempest. Also, Dr. Malloch explains how each of the 26 Climate Change Summits have resulted in nothing but some nice trips.  Mark Schneider, nuclear power professional, shares about his 2021 health journey. Mark talks about the 2021 Climate Change Summit and how there are countries who are talking about nuclear power. He also explains how nuclear power is important but there's no one really leading on this.  Wrap up: Is America losing it's culture? Piece to read from WSJ: Alienated Republicans, Moderate Democrats. New surveys show huge numbers of both Republicans AND Democrats are worried about our nation. The institutions that unite our country are being attacked, and Americans see it.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week is a big one in regards to environmental news. COP26 kicked off on Monday November 1 in Glasgow, Scotland. COP26 is a global United Nations summit about climate change and how countries are planning to tackle it. COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and will be attended by countries that signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) - a treaty agreed in 1994. The 2021 meeting will be the 26th meeting which is why it's called COP26. The summit is widely regarded as humanity's last and best chance to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. COP26 will be going on until November 12, so there's still much to be discussed, but let's talk about a few things that have happened thus far.

What You Need to Know about climate change hysteria. President Biden is at the Climate Change Summit this week, and so far the only thing he is proving is that he can give away American jobs and money to other countries. And they are happy to take them! Also, it's interesting that China didn't even show up. This won't turn out well. Todd Bensman, author of America's Covert Border War, & Senior National Security Fellow for the Center for Immigration Studies, talks about How to Stop the Entire World from Marching Across the U.S. Border.  The problem isn't Central America or Mexico, the fault goes to Columbia, Panama, and Costa Rica. Those 3 countries are supposedly our allies but what they are doing is facilitating migrants getting into our country.  Patrick Courrielche, co-founder of the podcast Red Pilled America, shares a great segment on China! AWOKEN: What should America learn from Chinese Capitalism? Patrick explains how China controls the film industry and how they dictate what can and cannot be put in films. The reason China has this control is because they have so much money in the film industry.  Wrap up: Robots! Robots hit the streets as demand for food delivery grows.
