A group of House Democrats is secretly crafting a fallback plan to avoid an economy-rattling debt default. The White House wants no part of it. Moderate Democrats in the Problem Solvers' Caucus have spent weeks constructing a break-glass deal with centrist Republicans in case the country goes all the way to the brink on the debt ceiling. As the summertime deadline for action approaches, they're worried a prolonged standoff could lead to fiscal disaster. Congress editor Elana Schor talks with Playbook editor Mike DeBonis about the plan and what she's watching for.
Since 2016, the Democratic Party has moved steadily to the left. Even tried and true moderates like Joe Biden have adapted to this new reality with greater government intervention in the economy than was contemplated in the eras of Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. But centrist Democrats still sometimes revert to their bad old habits. We saw two signs of this recently with New York Governor Kathy Hochul nominating a conservative judge despite the opposition of a wide swath of her own party and Joe Biden tapping Jeffrey Zients, a notorious corporate predator, to be the White House chief of staff.Alexander Sammon wrote about Hochul's blunder at Slate.com. He joins The Time of Monsters to discuss both of these inexplicable cases.Subscribe to The Nation to support all of our podcasts: thenation.com/podcastsubscribe.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Supreme Court has refused to step into the battle over the cap on SALT deductions. Several states sued to lift the cap on state and local tax deductions but the high court refused to hear the case. That leaves the matter up to Congress which hasn't produced results so far, or to the states which in some cases have offered a work-around.Hi, I'm Kathy Fettke and this is Real Estate News for Investors. If you like our podcast, please subscribe and leave us a review. The $10,000 cap on SALT deductions was one of the most controversial parts of the 2017 tax bill. Those deductions cover state sales, income, and property tax. Once upon a time, they were unlimited. The Tax Cut and Jobs Act or TCJA was passed by a Republican-controlled Congress under President Trump and provided $1.5 trillion in tax cuts. (1) The low cap on the SALT deduction helped offset that lost tax revenue, along with a lower cap on the mortgage interest deduction. A higher individual tax deduction was also offered as partial compensation for the loss of those tax-saving strategies.SALT Cap Hit “Blue” States the HardestThe SALT deduction hit some states harder than others, particularly those with high priced homes and high tax rates. They were also states that were mostly “blue” or Democratic. New York is one of those states. As reported by the New York Times, it was estimated that the cap would force New York taxpayers to pay an additional $121 billion in federal taxes from 2018 through 2025, when the provision expires. (2)New York led the legal battle against the cap by filing a lawsuit in 2019. The states of Maryland, Connecticut, and New Jersey also joined the lawsuit. The case was dismissed by a District Court in New York, and was then dismissed on appeal. Appeals Court Ruling on SALTThe appeals court ruling found that Congress had the power to impose the SALT cap. In the ruling it wrote: “It is obviously true that members of Congress were aware that the SALT deduction cap would adversely affect some states more than others. But the SALT deduction cap is not unlike the countless federal laws whose benefits and burdens are unevenly distributed across the country.”A few days ago, the case made its way to the Supreme Court but the high court rejected the case which leaves the rule intact until the 2025 expiration – unless it is modified or extended.Democrats claim the 2017 law is an unconstitutional infringement on their sovereignty by Republicans who were targeting blue states. And, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has expressed disappointment with the Supreme Court decision. She wants Democrats in Congress to undo what she calls “an economic attack” on middle-class families by restoring the SALT deduction.Debate Over the SALT DeductionThere is debate on whether it should be restored, even among Democrats. As reported by the Times, some of the more progressive Democrats in Congress feel that getting rid of the cap would only benefit wealthy Americans, and not the middle-class. Moderate Democrats would like the cap scrapped for the benefit of their wealthier constituents. There's also another issue involved with scrapping the SALT cap. In addition to imposing the cap, the 2017 tax bill eliminated two other provisions that helped moderate SALT deductions – namely, the individual alternative minimum tax or AMT and the PEASE limitation. If the SALT cap is lifted without reinstating those two provisions, the value of the tax deductions would be much higher than they were prior to the 2017 tax bill. According to the Tax Foundation, the Pease limitation capped deductions at 80%, including SALT deductions, for high-income taxpayers. If the alternative minimum tax applies to a taxpayer, the SALT deduction is eliminated altogether. (3)The Tax Foundation says that repealing the SALT cap in 2022 would give a 2.8% bump to the after-tax income for the top 1% of taxpayers, and a 1.2% bump to the top 2 to 5%. You can dive into the details at the Tax Foundation website. We'll have a link in the show notes.SALT WorkaroundsAs for the work-arounds, CNBC reported last December that 19 states are offering a way for pass-through business owners to bypass the cap. (4) The report also says that five other states have similar laws in the works. Pass-through entities that qualify include partnerships, S-corporations and some LLCs. The workaround involves a credit for taxes paid instead of a deduction, which can be capped. But it's more complicated than that, and tax experts say that each individual's situation is different, so you need to have your tax accountant crunch the numbers. As for what Congress is currently doing about the SALT cap, Democrats had increased the cap to $80,000 in the House-passed “Build Back Better” budget reconciliation bill. That plan would have cost the government about $50 billion a year, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation, but the legislation died in the Senate and hasn't yet been resurrected. And now, President Biden is working on ways to reduce the deficit without raising taxes. According to Roll Call, the administration's deficit reduction plans depend on the expiration of 2017 tax cuts, which would include the expiration of the SALT cap. (5) Roll Call says there is one problem however – that Biden's promise to not raise taxes applies to people making less than $400,000 a year. If the 2017 tax cuts are allowed to expire, Roll Call says that taxes would go up for many of those individuals. So we'll likely see another tax reckoning in the near future. Until then, the $10,000 cap on the SALT deduction will continue to haunt some homeowners. You can read more about this topic by following the links in the show notes at newsforinvestors.com.Also, please remember to hit the subscribe button, and leave a review! You can also join our real estate investor network for free at newsforinvestors.com. On this week's show, we'll look at the shockingly high number of Oregon lawmakers not seeking reelection and a new effort to save a dying breed: Moderate Democrats.
Left says they're not to blame for Biden's problems(Republished from TheHill.com)https://gorightnews.com/left-says-theyre-not-to-blame-for-bidens-problems/https://www.spreaker.com/user/9922149/left-says-theyre-not-to-blame-for-bidensProgressives are pushing back at the idea that they are to blame at all for President Biden's dismal poll numbers, arguing the White House's problems have more to do with it moving away from a progressive agenda. They argue the anemic polls largely reflect an unimpressed base disillusioned that Biden has been unwilling to deliver on issues such as voting rights, health care, gun control and climate change. “Biden's popularity was high when he ran on a progressive agenda — and it dropped when he let corporate Democrats take the reins,” said Varshini Prakash, executive director of the Sunrise Movement. “It shouldn't be a surprise that voters are becoming impatient.” A Pew Research Center survey released found Biden with just a 41 percent approval rating, down from 59 percent in April. Among Black adults, a key constituency for Biden, just 60 percent approved of Biden's job performance, down from 67 percent in September. The bad poll numbers come after voting rights legislation failed to move forward in the Senate despite Biden's urgings. It faltered because of opposition from Republicans, and because two centrist Democrats — Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona — opposed a carveout from the filibuster to move the voting rights legislation on Democratic senator votes alone. Those two centrists have also been major impediments to Biden's Build Back Better agenda, which includes a host of progressive priorities including an extension of a child tax credit and what would be the most ambitious effort to tackle climate change to pass Congress. Moderate Democrats for much of the last year argued that progressives risked pulling Biden too far to the left to the detriment of their party. Sinema pushed back at proposals for higher taxes on corporations and wealthy households in the Build Back Better bill, arguing it was bad policy considering the economic climate, while Manchin opposed further spending given rising inflation.Republicans have played up the divisions and cast Biden as a puppet of the left. They see that argument as helping them win swing districts in the suburbs next fall that will lead to GOP congressional majorities for the rest of Biden's term. But progressives argue Biden is playing into GOP hands by not fully embracing progressive priorities. They see the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill signed into law by Biden last fall as a lost opportunity that cut into their leverage for pressuring Manchin and Sinema on the Build Back Better legislation — which is also their top priority. And they think a closer look at the polls shows that Biden's real problems lie in a demoralized base — which they fear could also cost the party this fall. “They're standing in the way of the president's promises, and it will be mostly their fault if Democrats lose Congress in November,” Prakash said of moderate Democrats. Moderates have taken aim at White House chief of staff Ron Klain, a longtime aide to the president who has taken heat from some moderates who say he is aligned too closely with liberals. The Washington Post reported that some think Klain is too deferential toward Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Progressives held up a House vote on the infrastructure bill for months to try to move the Build Back Better bill forward. Eventually, under pressure from Biden, they relented and voted for the infrastructure bill. That gave Biden a political victory, but it is one that hasn't really showed up in the polls so far. A few progressives dissented, and there are some who say it was a mistake to vote for the infrastructure bill, though it is not clear holding it up would have moved Manchin and Sinema either. Democratic operative Eddie Vale said progressives shouldn't be blamed for hurting Biden when they are the ones who ultimately compromised and backed him on infrastructure. “For the specific argument folks are currently having and the spate of stories going after Jayapal and Klain, blaming progressives doesn't really make any sense because in the end they went along with the ‘pass infrastructure only' strategy and almost all voted for both bills,” he said. Progressives say they are used to getting backlash when their flank pushes for more populism. While some say the president should take more responsibility, many argue that key congressional Democrats should take the shellacking in the court of public opinion. “People are just really exhausted by moderate Democrats continuously eating their young,” said Camille Rivera, a partner at the progressive firm New Deal Strategies. “Conservative and moderate Democrats need to start taking responsibility for their own messaging.” On The Trail: The new American malaiseOperatives like Rivera are now moving into campaign mode, anticipating a tough midterm cycle. “They're not to blame, to put it simply,” said Adam Hilton, an assistant professor at Mount Holyoke College who studies Democratic politics, describing progressives' standing less than a year out from the midterm elections. “On the contrary, the progressive wing broadly speaking is very much responsible for defining this ambitious agenda.” “Biden is a centrist in a party that is tapping left,” he said. “To remain a centrist, he's got to be actually moving.” [Source: BY HANNA TRUDO - TheHill.comhttps://thehill.com/homenews/administration/591716-left-says-theyre-not-to-blame-for-bidens-problems]
Last week I suggested that Trump maintains a hold on a large fraction of America because he fills a void created by a system that has left them behind. I followed with the question raised by Frank Capra's iconic film “It's a Wonderful Life,” in which the greedy Mr. Potter tries to take over Bedford Falls: Do we join together or let the Potters of America own and run everything? We're well on the way to the Potterizing of America. To take one example, the expanded child tax credit payments will end next week. (Biden's original “Build Back Better” package had extended it, but the package is on life support in the Senate.) Republican critics, including Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri, claim that the child tax credit has contributed to inflation by giving people more money to spend when the supply chain is already strained. “Moderate” Democrats, like Joe Manchin, think it's too expensive. Rubbish. The benefit is tiny compared with the economy. Yet its payments have reduced child poverty by nearly 30 percent and have helped the working class. They've reduced hunger and lowered financial stress, especially in rural states that received the most money per capita (such as Missouri and West Virginia). Families spent the money on essentials like groceries and stashed some away for emergency savings. Thanks for subscribing to my letter on the system. Please consider supporting this effort through a paid or gift subscription. Others (including a few prominent economists like Larry Summers) blame inflation on the government's pandemic spending, overall. In yesterday's New York Times, Neil Irwin wrote that because “the government tried overheating the economy” we now have “soaring prices and many goods in short supply. Inflation has reached its highest levels in four decades.”This misses the point. Expanded unemployment benefits ended in September (earlier in some states) and the last round of stimulus payments went out last spring. The spending was a great success story — keeping millions of Americans from falling into poverty. And it hasn't been the major cause of inflation. Still others (CEOs and business groups) blame inflation on wage increases. This is pure rubbish. Price increases are now running at 6.8 percent annually but wages are growing only between 3-4 percent. So real wages (what those wages can actually purchase) are actually declining for most Americans. This is why programs like the child tax credit and other government assistance are so important. The biggest single reason prices are rising is the concentration of the American economy into the hands of a few corporate giants with the power to raise prices. To be sure, supply bottlenecks have raised the prices corporations pay for some raw materials and components. But here's the most important thing: Instead of absorbing these costs, corporations are passing them on to customers in the form of higher prices. This is because most large corporations face little or no competition. If corporations in the same industry were competing vigorously against each other, they'd keep their prices as low as possible so as not to lose customers. They'd try to avoid passing increased costs to consumers in higher prices, for fear of losing customers to competitors that don't raise prices. They'd absorb the costs, and their profits would fall. The opposite is occurring. Corporations are raising prices even as they rake in record profits. Profit margins at large corporations are now at a 70-year high. Take a look at the following chart (from Bloomberg):Big corporations face so little competition they can raise prices with impunity. They simply coordinate their prices increases with the handful of other big corporations in the same industry, who are happy to oblige. That way, all of them stay highly profitable. Wall Street knows exactly what's going on. Big investors are pouring money into corporations with the power to raise prices. “What we really want to find are companies with pricing power,” Giorgio Caputo, senior portfolio manager at J O Hambro Capital Management told Bloomberg. “In an inflationary environment, that's the gift that keeps on giving because companies can pass along their pricing on the way up, and don't necessarily need to get it back on the way down” [emphasis added].The underlying problem isn't inflation per se. It's lack of competition. Corporations are using the excuse of inflation to raise prices and make fatter profits. (Matt Stoller, who has an excellent Substack on monopolization, calculates that 60 percent of the increase in inflation is going to corporate profits.)Blaming the child tax credit or pandemic assistance or wage increases is a cruel ruse that disguises what's really going on. This is what I mean when I say America has been Potterized: People at the top — top corporate executives and big investors — are doing better than ever. Everyone else is being squeezed. What should be done about all of this? For one thing, raise taxes on big corporations and the wealthy in order to finance all sorts of supports and public investments needed by the majority of Americans (such as the expanded child tax credit). At the very least, repeal the Trump tax cut for big corporations and the wealthy. But wait. Didn't we just try to do this? Yes, and not even a Congress controlled by Democrats could get it done. Why not? Because in Potterized America, big corporations and the super-wealthy not only have the power to raise prices. They also have the power to get Congress to cut their taxes — and keep them cut. Your thoughts? This is a public episode. This week, President Biden visited the NIH and outlined his plans for combating Covid through the winter months. Biden promised to fight with “science and speed, not chaos and confusion,” and bemoaned the fact that Covid policy has become so politicized. Meanwhile, Democrats are trying to figure out how they'll keep control of Congress in the face of terrible poll numbers. Moderates like Rep. Abigail Spanberger, Democrat of Virginia, fear that if the party goes too far to the left they'll lose the swing voters and disaffected Republicans they need to win. And the beltway chatter this week was all about what some think is the inevitable clash between Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Has the struggle for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination already begun? Tom Bevan, co-founder and president of RealClearPolitics, Carl Cannon, Washington Bureau Chief, and Susan Crabtree, White House and national correspondent join Andrew Walworth on today's RealClearPolitics Takeaway podcast.

The president is trying to pass a $1.2 trillion, bipartisan infrastructure bill today. But progressive Democrats say they will only vote for that bill if it comes with a guarantee that the Senate passes its $3.5 trillion spending bill, also known as the reconciliation bill, which can become law without a single Republican vote. The problem: Moderate Democrats in the Senate, including Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), say they won't support another three trillion dollars of spending, and want more time to scale the bill down and flesh out what it's going to do. Pelosi has said she wants the language of the $3.5 trillion bill settled on before passing the smaller bipartisan bill, a demand to appease the progressives in her caucus, but Manchin and Sinema say there is no way that will be ready by today. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Wednesday, March 24th. It looks like the rain will continue on Wednesday, at least for awhile. According to the National Weather Service showers will be likely in the Cedar Rapids area before 10 a.m. Wednesday. When it is not raining it should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 54 degrees. It should remain a bit breezy, with wind speeds of 15 mph occasionally gusting as high as 25 mph. A nurse and a correctional officer at the Anamosa State Penitentiary were killed Tuesday morning in what is believed to be the first fatal assault by an inmate in decades. Iowa Department of Corrections said in a statement it was investigating the assault, which took place about 10:15 a.m. in the prison infirmary. The department did not say whether the inmate used any sort of weapon in the attack. The two victims have not been identified, pending family notifications and the investigation, the department said. Prison staff attempted giving first aid to them until paramedics arrived. The inmate — who also was not named — was restrained after the attack by security staff. Cedar Rapids Police are treating a racial slur discovered early Tuesday spray painted on a vacant rental house as a hate crime. The house has been the source of neighborhood complaints over the last year. Cedar Rapids police received a call about 7:30 a.m. that a racial epithet was painted in yellow across the front of 2307 Bever Ave. SE. “I'm disgusted and furious that someone would do this,” Chief Wayne Jerman told The Gazette. “We are handling this as a hate crime. We are talking to all the neighbors and exploring every lead at this point. We have investigators working the case.” The department said it would work with the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office as it investigates to see whether federal hate crime statutes apply. https://www.thegazette.com/subject/news/public-safety/2307-bever-ave-se-cedar-rapids-rental-house-nuisance-property-drive-by-shootings-20210322 (The Gazette published an article Sunday) about violence, including drive-by shootings and a pipe bomb stemming from this house, which the city last year had declared a nuisance property. One of the closest elections in the country last year remains a contested one. Democrat Rita Hart's campaign has renewed its call for all lawful ballots to be counted as Republicans argue that contesting the election is a power grab. Attorneys for Hart and U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, submitted initial legal briefs to a U.S. House panel on Monday. Miller-Meeks' attorney, Alan Ostergren, broadly denied Hart's claims and said the burden was on Hart to prove that a state-certified election should be overturned. Hart argues that 22 ballots were legally cast in the district but not counted, due to errors by election workers. Had the 22 ballots been tallied, Hart argues, she would have won by nine votes. As one might expect, outside political influences are shaping the debate over this electoral result. Moderate Democrats, fearing an election challenge soon, balked at bringing the issue before the full House, while Republicans have criticized the Hart campaign for not challenging the results in Iowa courts first. The Hart campaign says Iowa courts would not have acted quickly enough before the election was certified. This briefing is sponsored in part by Corridor Careers. There was an old song which so well described the purpose of America. That song invited anyone anywhere to come to America and BECOME AMERICANS. The most pungent line in that song so beautifully identified WHY. That is, whoever they were, they were human beings who were:YEARNING TO BE FREE.That was why anyone would want to come to America. So that they could live free and enjoy the freedoms which America offered to all no matter who you were.My own father was an immigrant, naturalized, passionate about living in America and himself yearning to be free. He gladly and willingly ASSIMILATED. He adopted American ideals. He honored and cherished the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution, and when he became a citizen, he swore allegiance to the greatest country in the history of mankind. He came out of the melting pot a born again American. He willingly and gladly adopted the American slogan:E PLURIBUS UNUM.From many, out of many, ONE. One nation with all citizens together, and indivisible living under freedoms guaranteed and with justice for all. That was the highest ideal to which any individual could pledge allegiance. But then came multiculturalism. It came as a direct threat and challenge to the American ideal of assimilation and oneness. Multiculturalism came as a concept, a philosophy, and a false idea that America should be nothing more than a fragmented collection of groups. We the people were at the bottom line groups defined and divided by race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, specific political philosophies and of course, religion. Religion or no religion at all (NONES). Multiculturalism defined and popularized TRIBALISM, fragmentation with the hope that so much of traditional America would be ignored or better yet destroyed. Why this new progressivism happened and how it gained traction is difficult to understand. Fragmentation replaced unity. This new destructive progressivism attempted to pit Americans against each other. And perhaps worst of all, this new, destructive progressive ideology became the dominating political and philosophical force of the new LEFT, that which seems to have virtually taken over the democratic party. Nothing could be worse for America, nothing. This new multiculturalism was the same as identity politics. Politics, and the core of America should be shaped to the individual, to groups, to tribes and the good of all is replaced by the beliefs and desires of the individual. Central to this new belief was OPEN BORDERS. Anyone anywhere should be permitted to enter America no matter who they were or why they came. Each new entrant brought a different kind of tribalism, beliefs, and added to more and different group identity. Open borders and illegal immigration only increased the power and scope of multiculturalism providing further and additional attacks on our Constitution, way of life, standards, beliefs and ideals. This new progressivism, this new multiculturalism arose, the proponents stated, as a result of the dominance, the discrimination, the sexism of WHITE MALES. They were the cause of all of the problems in America and any influence in power they had must be done away with. This new progressivism saw the Founding Fathers of our great country as chief of those oppressive white males and even now the multiculturalists would do everything possible to water down, eviscerate or even do away with the constitution these white males so brilliantly created and constructed. The Declaration and the Constitution were deemed to be racist and sexist at the core and therefore must be destroyed. The full implementation of constitutional principles produced the oppressed and victim groups rather than individual citizens, yearning to be free, and in fact living with freedoms and inalienable rights never before available in the history of mankind. That was America, its promise, its guarantee and its deep and passionate concern for the individual and governments everywhere which would exist for the purpose of assuring life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And that was for all, all assimilated Americans, ALL OF THEM. That has been what America essentially was, and still is.But now comes a new radicalized LEFT which seeks to divide us along racial, ethnic and gender lines rather than unite us around common principles and natural rights. These new radicals see America as a society of victim groups instead of self–reliant individuals. They have no belief in the AMERICAN IDEA. They care little or nothing, this new Left, about the Constitution or its freedoms. They promote and foster a cultural civil war, encouraging hatred and aggression, and of course division. They know that a HOUSE DIVIDED CANNOT STAND and they wish the traditional America of 250 years to be destroyed. This new multiculturalism, this hateful tribalism conceives of society as a collection of cultural identity groups, again:ALL OPPRESSED BY WHITE MALES.And this new hatred, political and cultural, will in fact UNCHECKED eventually destroy America. It will, my fellow Americans and we cannot let that happen. It is heartbreaking to see how divided America is and Americans are. States wish to secede. Even one wishes to divide itself into two or three new political entities (California) because the political views and cultural responses are so radically different. Parts of states wish to merge in other states where there is far more commonality. Split, fragmentation, division of geographical entities and individuals rule the day. These new Progressives and progressive thinking are bound and determined to “decouple America from its foundational principles.”The premises of these new political and cultural doctrines and their establishment and adoption require the destruction and discrediting of the American way of life. And these anti–Americans are doing such a good job in that regard.Even worse, this new radical progressivism requires the SILENCING OF ALL OPPOSITION. Any differing speech is labeled as HATE SPEECH. The priority of SENSITIVITIES runs amuck. So much of speech and belief once viewed as traditional and acceptable now is labeled hate speech, which includes so much of religious doctrine, especially Christian where, for example, the concept of sin and sinners is easily identified as hate speech. Progressives would like nothing more than to see the ban of religion and religious speech. In fact, for the new radical Progressives to prevail, religion must end. In that regard, the words of television personality Bill Mahr are relevant:DEATH TO RELIGION!President Donald Trump announced to the world that his mission was to:MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAINand that is exactly what the new multiculturalists do not want. They want America to be one of many, no different or better than any other nation. They believe in a new globalism where, for example, a world court would make decisions which affect every human being on earth including all Americans. They believe in and preach a new and radical socialism – Marxism. So much of the democratic party has adopted that philosophy (i.e. witness Bernie Sanders). Whether the Democrats nominate Biden, Sanders or a different candidate from a brokered convention, socialism and all its negative aspects will strongly influence the thinking, the philosophy and the politics of the democratic candidate for President. It is fair to say that this new radical LEFT has strong hatred for America. This movement and its adherents openly promote rancor, division, enmity between people, and a balkanization which, again if left unchecked and defeated, will result in a destruction of America. We are in a fight for our lives, my fellow Americans, our freedoms, our way of life and our BELOVED CONSTITUTION. If we allow multiculturalism and identity politics to prevail, America as we know it will be destroyed once and for all. Now, more than ever, we must understand the issues, the politics, the parties, the platforms. And most importantly, we must thoroughly know and understand:SOCIALISMand Marxist socialism, a far worse kind. And for now, it is alive and well in the democratic party. Moderate Democrats seem nowhere to be found, if in fact there are any. So much of this new progressivism counts upon the indifference or ignorance of the American public. It is just incredible how many Americans never bother to vote, indifferent to the political process or the effects of elections. Even those that do, so many of them do not really understand the issues but rather for the most part, vote on broad and general philosophies, and even more tragically personalities. The like or dislike of a candidate often sways the vote, whether or not the favored candidate is right for America. The well functioning of the American system and its political and cultural foundations depends upon the active and accurate understanding of the voters, WE THE PEOPLE of the critical issues of the parties and their platforms and not personalities. The radical Left would deconstruct, reeducate and move the American citizenry away from a real and fully educated understanding. So that the vote can be swayed and political influence accomplished whether or not based on fact or truth. We live, my fellow Americans, in perhaps the most dangerous and difficult time in American history.America will change as a result of elections 2020 if we the people do not stand up, protect and defend our freedoms, our way of life, and our Constitution and do not allow those who would fundamentally change it to take power. We cannot elect any who would be multiculturalists at heart, none whatsoever.Rather we must vote for those true Americans who love our Declaration of Independence and Constitution and the freedoms it provides and we enjoy. Time and again we should refer to the words of Ronald Reagan:FREEDOMS ONCE LOST ARE LOST FOREVER.The radical, progressive Left, the Marxist socialists would have that happen. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN!Vote for those in 2020 who love America like we do.
Do you know what that is, the Electoral College? And, perhaps more importantly, do you know how fundamental the Electoral College and the function it performs is to the American political process and the election of the President of the United States? It is, my fellow Americans absolutely necessary that you understand for this extremely important political mechanism is under severe attack. There are many who wish to eliminate the Electoral College in favor of a popular vote as the main election procedure. And, you can be certain that those who are against the EC are: THE DEMOCRATS THE PROGRESSIVES THE RADICALS who wish to do virtually anything to get and retain power, absolute power over the political process in America. Each of our 50 states has its own voting procedures. And, that includes not only the popular vote, but the Electoral Vote which follows thereafter. ARTICLE II of our beloved Constitution provides as follows:“Each state shall appoint, in such manner as the legislature thereof may direct, a number of Electors, equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives to which the state may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or person holding the office of trust or profit under the United States shall be appointed an Elector.”So, if a state has two federal Senators, and it does, and thirteen Representatives for the House, that state would have a total of fifteen Electors who would cast their votes for President presumably based on the outcome of the popular vote IN THAT STATE (not our country at large). Such total votes in this case fifteen would be the Electoral Votes of that state which would be counted toward denomination of the candidate for President of that political party. So that, every serious candidate for President must take into account every one of the 50 states and the Electoral Votes it offers for the nomination of any individual as party candidate for President of the United States. No state can be ignored. That puts the smallest states on a par, at least procedurally with the largest states and it prevents states like California and New York from dominating the political process with their sheer number of citizens and residents removing the political voice of the smaller states. In essence, the Electoral College procedure is a true democratic mechanism, ensuring that the political voice and opinion of the smallest states and its citizens will be heard at the national level, and will be counted, and will matter in terms of formulating the thinking of denominating party and its final candidate. THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE POLITIAL PROCESS really works and has worked most efficiently and effectively since 1787. It is a fundamental principle of our Constitution, and represents the clear and clairvoyant thinking of our Founding Fathers who were concerned that there not be any sectional or special interest majority domination, but rather all things fair and equitable across the county. In terms of sheer numbers, America could be dominated by the populous states of California, New York, Texas, Florida and others without any real representation or political expression from smaller states like North and South Dakota, New Mexico, Montana and others. In a constitutional way, Wyoming can be every bit as important in electing the candidate for President of any party as New York or California.Radical, progressive Democrats, many of them socialists wish to replace the Electoral College, what they term the “18th century anachronism” with a straight popular vote. They claim that in a true democracy, it is only the majority that counts. But, no democracy functions well or is in fact fair unless the political voice of all is heard. Progressives decry the fact that Democrats achieved a larger popular vote than Republicans in 2016, but the Electoral College saw to the election of the Republican candidate Donald Trump who won the Electoral Vote in the right number of states. That election and its results were exactly what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they established the Electoral College as a fundamental part of our Constitutional political process. The Electoral College works, it is good, it is protective, it is fair, it is democratic and it is right for America and its 50 states. IT SHOULD NOT BE CHANGED! In reality, it would be almost impossible to eliminate the Electoral College. The Constitution requires for any amendment that three quarters, 75% of the states approve the amendment or the elimination of an existing constitutional provision and that would mean that some THIRTY–EIGHT STATES would have to approve such a constitutional change. That would never happen. The smaller states would never vote for such a change for they would then be completely dominated politically by the larger states. The popular vote of United States citizens is contained within the state in which the voter lives and no matter how many voters, a state like California only has so many Electoral Votes which does not allow it to be dominant in the political process. And that is good for democracy and a democratic result. The Founding Fathers were concerned with an unchecked democracy. An aggressive, even militant majority could completely eviscerate the rights of the minorities and control, even dominate the country. The Electoral College would prevent that. It puts a premium on moderation. When candidates, such as a Bernie Sanders with his socialistic – Marxist philosophies presents radical political and economic ideas, 50 states, each one of them, can moderate the political platforms and ideas of radical candidates, or fundamentally change them, or eliminate them. The Electoral College process requires reason, moderation and compromise, characteristics sadly lacking in our political process today. A so called radical idea goes through, what Steve Forbes of Forbes Magazine calls “a marinating process” which is healthy, even critical for the American political process. The values and priorities of every state matter and no candidate with radical propositions can ever prevail. Thank the Electoral College for that.Essentially, a nationwide coalition is essential for any candidate to gain a majority in the Electoral College. Hear the numbers. The House of Representatives of our federal government contains 435 members. The Senate of the United States contains 100 members. That is a total of 535 men and women who exercise incredible power over WE THE PEOPLE. Each state no matter the size has two Senators. Each state then has a certain number of Representatives in the House based on population. That changes every 10 years. But every state has no less than one Representative no matter what. Each state therefore has a minimum of three Electoral Votes and perhaps four or five no matter how small the population. Those five votes really matter because they are five of 535 Electoral College Votes and they can often make the difference. A Bernie Sanders or a Donald Trump cannot ignore WYOMING. Or Montana. The Electoral College Votes of every state are important and can make the ULTIMATE DIFFERENCE. America's political parties are collections of many diverse interests at the state levels. There are different backgrounds, a wide array of cultures and beliefs. But America politically has always been structured around the: MELTING POT THEORY.That is, that those who come to America seeking citizenship would be assimilated and become true Americans, committed to and united by our Constitution and its Bill of Rights, its fundamental amendments with respect to freedoms no matter the heritage or personal beliefs of the individuals. That process worked for some two centuries. But then came diversity, and multiculturalism and all things politically correct. And, rather than assimilation, TRIBALISM began where America was divided into groups by culture, ethnicity, gender or any other number of special interests. Political parties saw that tribal influence at work. Witnessed the differences, the rancor and the animosity of the candidates of the democratic party for President. They attack each other bitterly. They disagree with each other, most aggressively. They proclaim their differences and the fact that each is the true representative, thinker and political force of the democratic party. The others, the antagonists are simply DEAD WRONG. Each candidate wishes his or her own thinking to dominate the democratic party and to forge its political beliefs and policies. There is no compromise. Eventually, the Democrats will unite behind one candidate because they have no other choice. But you can be certain there will be an angry, aggressive, contentious convention, and that the process of following the dictates and procedures of the Electoral College will be challenged wherever possible. The Democrats, for example, have unbelievable strife within as the heart and soul of the party is battled for. There is an extreme element who wishes the party to stand tall for socialism and even a certain kind of Marxism. That of course is represented by a Bernie Sanders, but others as well at least in terms of policy and priorities. Moderate Democrats are nowhere to be found for now even if they may ultimately prevail. Sanders is a candidate to be reckoned with especially since so many of our voters, including and especially the younger ones, really do not understand socialism – Marxism and cannot begin to comprehend the lethal effect the election of a candidate like Bernie Sanders would have upon the America of some 250 years. The freedoms America has always stood for can be lost in one generation, as President Ronald Reagan reminded us and those freedoms once lost are gone forever, FOREVER! So many voters simply do not understand that. The Democrats, ever LUNGING TO THE LEFT would radically change America never to be the same again. The political parties of today, Republican and Democrat are essentially state and local organizations. Each such state organization has its own priorities and in some ways its very own political procedures. Each state determines what is right for that state regardless of what happens in any of the other 49. That is precisely what the Founding Fathers intended. There are to be sure national political committees but they are essentially fundraising entities. They can attempt to influence state elections and decision making but only to a certain point. States become more independent, confident in their internal political power and determined to be more influential no matter its size. State Representatives are determined to champion its citizens and for its political voice to be heard. And, that is exactly what the ELECTORAL COLLEGE is meant to do. The choice of the President of the United States, and the two candidates who will run for that office is perhaps the most important decision Americans can make. Such a decision is made every four years. The man or woman who occupies the Oval Office of The White House is THE most important and powerful person in the world. The powers vested in the President by the Constitution are incredibly large and vital. In addition, the President issues executive orders which can change American priorities overnight. The President has the incredible power of veto of legislation which can be passed by House and Senate with a majority. But the Presidential veto requires a two thirds majority of both Senate and House to override and pass the legislation, something extremely politically difficult if not impossible. The President appoints cabinet members like the Attorney General. And Ambassadors to foreign countries. And, negotiates treaties with foreign countries subject to approval of the Senate. And much more. It is impossible to imagine the effect on the American way of life and this critical presidential decision making if a radical – progressive candidate like Bernie Sanders became that President. Not only would America be fundamentally altered top to bottom, and probably forever, but so much of the world would change for America is in so many ways a dominate world force. A Sanders or any candidate like him would move America and the world aggressively towards socialism and Marxism. Those freedoms we once had and enjoyed would be lost, and lost forever. Benjamin Franklin, a key Founding Father was asked following the completion of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787 what kind of government the Founders had constructed and we had been given. Franklin's answer and the condition to that answer were critical then and even more so today. He said: “A REPUBLIC, IF YOU CAN KEEP IT!” Now come elections 2020. They are indeed the most critical, the most important, the most fundamental elections America has ever had. Never in our history have there been elections which will wrestle with such fundamental issues, and so much proposed change. The candidates for office, House of Representatives, Senate and President have never been more diverse, different in thinking and political philosophy, individualistic and strong agents for change, and so many either indifferent to our Constitution or fundamentally desiring its overhaul or at least fundamental change. It seems as though traditional America and the REPUBLIC under which we now live rests in the hands of the Republican Party and the reelection of Donald Trump. Every viable candidate the Democrats have put forth champion radical and fundamental change to America and to our beloved and consistent Constitution. If you want a different America, American voter, the Democrats will offer you the candidate to accomplish that. If you believe in the existing America, our way of life, our freedoms, our constitutional protections and rule of law, then it seems you have no choice but to vote republican and for Trump. More than ever, WE THE PEOPLE must be active in the political process. We must understand the issues, the parties and the platforms. We must be proactive in our duties as citizens and work to protect and defend the greatest country in the history of mankind. We the voters, the doers must do that for our children, grandchildren, our families and friends. There is only one America and there never will be another. I for one hope and pray that we keep this America, and make it stronger, and reinforce its values and priorities and stand up to the challenge of Founder Benjamin Franklin and say to him and the world. WE LOVE OUR AMERICAN REPUBLIC AND WE WILL KEEP IT!
Do you know what that is, the Electoral College? Or Montana. The Electoral College Votes of every state are important and can make the ULTIMATE DIFFERENCE.America's political parties are collections of many diverse interests at the state levels. There are different backgrounds, a wide array of cultures and beliefs. But America politically has always been structured around the:MELTING POT THEORY.That is, that those who come to America seeking citizenship would be assimilated and become true Americans, committed to and united by our Constitution and its Bill of Rights, its fundamental amendments with respect to freedoms no matter the heritage or personal beliefs of the individuals. And, that is exactly what the ELECTORAL COLLEGE is meant to do.The choice of the President of the United States, and the two candidates who will run for that office is perhaps the most important decision Americans can make. Those freedoms we once had and enjoyed would be lost, and lost forever.Benjamin Franklin, a key Founding Father was asked following the completion of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787 what kind of government the Founders had constructed and we had been given. Franklin's answer and the condition to that answer were critical then and even more so today. He said:“A REPUBLIC, IF YOU CAN KEEP IT!”Now come elections 2020. I for one hope and pray that we keep this America, and make it stronger, and reinforce its values and priorities and stand up to the challenge of Founder Benjamin Franklin and say to him and the world:WE LOVE OUR AMERICAN REPUBLIC AND WE WILL KEEP IT!
