A new season begins for Mizzou baseball on Friday. New head coach Kerrick Jackson joined the Big Show on Thursday to talk about the program's work in the offseason, and how his players are preparing to attack non-conference play.
In this week's episode of “Mizzou Storytellers,” Nikki Barry and Dave Matter visit with first-year Mizzou baseball coach Kerrick Jackson. They discuss his upbringing in St. Louis, his unique playing career as a college student-athlete from junior college to HBCU to the Big 12. Kerrick talks about the many jobs he's had across all levels of baseball over the last three decades and how those moves have shaped his career, including his stint as a Mizzou assistant coach and his decision to leave the program nine years ago. Kerrick details how his life has been defined by opportunities and reunions — reunions with his wife, Talia, longtime Tigers coach Tim Jamieson and, now, Mizzou's baseball program. Kerrick shares the story of his 2021 health scare, his thoughts on being the first Black head baseball coach in SEC history and how he's gone about constructing a diverse 2024 roster and coaching staff. Nikki and Dave wrap up the episode answering questions from Mizzou fans. United States v. Maurice Kerrick, Jr.
Kerrick Jackson is a true trailblazer. He made history last year when he was hired as the first Black baseball Head Coach at the University of Memphis. In one season at Memphis, Jackson led the program to their first winning season since 2017, racking up 29 wins. In June, he accepted the head coaching job at the University of Missouri. A hire that allowed him to return home - he had served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Mizzou from 2011-15 - and to make even more history as the first Black head coach in Mizzou baseball history and the first Black (baseball) head coach in the history of the SEC. On this episode of the BBM podcast, I spoke with Coach Jackson about his decision to leave Memphis and return to Mizzou Baseball. We spoke candidly about the history he is making, the impact on his family, and the challenges of coaching at the highest level. He is truly a tremendous leader and one of our favorite all-time guests on the BBM podcast. You will certainly learn a lot from this episode. As always, please subscribe, rate, and share the BBM podcast. Follow everything Black Baseball Mixtape on Instagram.
This week on The Lost Omens Podcast, the show must go on! The Wonders finally put on their much-anticipated performance for the people of Kerrick. On this special edition of Mixtape Talk, I speak with Memphis University Head Coach Kerrick Jackson. Coach Jackson is one of the most respected coaches in the fraternity of Black skippers. He has coached at every collegiate level and spent time away from coaching, serving as an MLB scout, baseball agent (with the Boras Corporation), and the President of the MLB Draft League. In 2017, he led Southern University from 9 wins (2018) to the SWAC Championship and a birth in the NCAA tournament in 2019. In June 2022, at the time of his hire, Jackson became the 3rd Black coach selected to lead a PWI DI program and the first Black coach ever to lead the Memphis Tigers. As he says in the conversation, his selection was not only the right hire based on merit but also a statement appointment for the University and the community of Memphis. This conversation is insightful and fun. Please follow Memphis Baseball and the Black Baseball Mixtape.

Dr. Sharon Kerrick is disrupting tech education and teaching teenagers to make bots. Alisia McClain is creating programs for women of color to make apps and pursue careers in technology. In this week's Innovators podcast, both of these women tell host Ben Reno-Weber, from Louisville's Future of Work Initiative, the same thing - it is time for EVERYONE to jump into the data revolution. Diverse backgrounds and decades in business have taught both guests that big changes in data will take more than giving people of different backgrounds access to the field. It will also require technology to reinvent and rebrand itself as a creative field. NOTES: "You Can't Take My Door" by Botnik https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPs6wdM7S3U

In this episode, Katherine E. Kerrick, a law student at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, discusses her note, "Should Donald Trump’s 'Make America Great Again' Receive Trademark Protection?," which will be published in the University of New Hampshire Law Review. Kerrick begins by explaining when trademarks can be registered, when they can't, and why. She then explains the history of Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan and his registration of the slogan for trademark protection. She reflects on whether the USPTO should have registered the MAGA slogan when Trump applied for it, how much protection it should receive today, and whether there are First Amendment issues with trademark protection of political slogans. She also discusses the process of developing a note topic and how to ask professors for advice. This episode was hosted by Brian L. Host Dale Dixon talks today with John Kerrick, a human development expert and coach who has spent much of his career teaching creative thinking. He shares the key principles for thinking creatively, and tells stories of his time working with brand managers at Quaker Oats and engineers at GE. He explains how creativity can begin with a simple idea and the benefit of changing one small thing at a time.
In this episode, John introduces the concept of language power struggles which is when you want to practice your Chinese with a Chinese person, but they will only talk to you in English. We also talk about the reverse when you are speaking English and the other person is speaking Chinese and you both understand each other, kind of like Han Solo and Chewbacca. We delve into the different accents in Chinese along with the myriad of different "dialects" in Chinese and how in reality many of these are entirely different languages along with why many schools and universities seem to miss out on the learners perspective. The guest interview is with Kerric Knowles and about his challenges and triumphs with studying Chinese at university, and how if you don't use it, you lose it. Kerrick has an excellent face for radio, but unfortunately we don't have the pictures to prove it. If you like this show, please write us a review and like us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/YouCanLearnChinese
Rowan Kerrick released the "Foolish" EP last month. The record is an autobiographical collection of songs inspired by a recent breakup. The classically-trained singer-songwriter recorded it in New York, though she recently moved back to her hometown of Denver. Kerrick visited the CPR Performance Studio to play four songs from "Foolish." She also spoke with Alisha Sweeney about how recording the EP was therapeutic, her time at Denver School of the Arts and how she went from playing classical music to writing her own songs.

He and Matt don't see it the same way at all. Matt locked him up for his own good, to protect him while he was drunk. But Andy, too sure of himself for his own good, was sure he could look after himself. It's morning now and he's being released, but he's not relieved its over. Oh, no! He's sullen and angry. You might say he's "gotten up on the wrong side of bed". He feels untrusted by Matt Dillon, the Marshal of Dodge City, so in return, he keeps his distance. A Bad Gamble Let's look at it from Matt's point of view, now. He really wants to help Andy, so Andy's rejection hurts him. He actually sees himself in Andy. A little of Matt's background is hinted at here, but he doesn't go into any details. That was the old Matt. He's a new man now...and Andy could be too! But Matt knows that decision will have to be Andy's personal choice. He cannot make it for him. Matt wants to believe in Andy, to trust that he'll make the right decision, but at this point, that looks doubtful. Matt fears he has made a bad gamble. He bet on Andy doing the right thing, but it looks like he'll lose that bet. Suspicious Behavior As Andy distances himself from Matt and the law, Matt interprets it as suspicious behavior. It looks like Andy is up to something. He's gotten hired back on by Jim Buck as the shotgun man. Andy's certainly a likable fellow, and charm can be used to hide one's true motives. Matt understands the deceptive side of human nature and he also knows a few facts that, when added up, make it look like Andy's charming behavior and springs from highly suspect motives. You've Been Warned Matt warns Andy that he suspects he's 'up to something'. It looks like he's planning to do something bad or deceitful – a little bit tricky. Matt hopes the warning prompts Andy to make the right choice. Listen to find out... ~ how Andy got hired back on with Jim Buck, and ~ why Matt thinks that is suspicious behavior. I saw his picture the other day on one of those circulars. Too Brave for His Own Good Andy gets into a fight in the bar, the saloon. He didn’t start this fight, but he’s ready to stand up to this other man. Matt and Doc are in the saloon at the time and hear the talk at the bar getting more and more heated. In the middle of it all, Matt catches the name of the stranger. Andy seems to know him and calls him Kerrick. That Name Rings a Bell Hmm... Kerrick. That name seems to ring a bell for Matt, but where did he hear it before? Then he remembers the wanted circular that just arrived. He hadn't posted it yet, but it was in his office. Kerrick, yeah, this guy is a bad dude! Matt Intervenes Andy won't back down. He's ready to get into a gun fight with Kerrick. Problem is, Andy's drunk and he doesn’t realize how drunk he is. Matt steps in and breaks up the fight and chases Kerrick out of town. Is Matt Thinking Straight? Perhaps he should have let them fight and then arrested them both, but instead he let a criminal go free. What was he thinking?
