Now she's committed to changing the lives of overloaded employers, women seeking rewarding work, and doing all she can to close the gender gap. Hello everyone and welcome to another incredible episode of the Talk2Rami "Founder's Series" Podcast, where I interview movers and shakers, as to why they do what it is exactly they do! In today's episode, I sat down with Ashley Connell, The Chief Executive Officer & Founder of Prowess Project! Ashley Connell is CEO of Prowess Project, ex-agency owner and advocate for working moms. When building her agency, she wished she had a talent "bench" that shed could have been able to pull from who were culture-adds and could do the work. As a (at the time) future mom, Ashley wanted to be able to have a career & time with kids. This is exactly how she combined both problems to solve each other and created Prowess Project. What types of talent? Heavy operations: COOs to exec assistants, Project Managements, Chief of Staff, Customer Success, Account Management & more. What type of work ethic? Go-getters, Problem-solvers, Great communicators, Empathetic, Team-players, Integrators, Looking to learn more about how Prowess can help you hire or retain talent, go here: https://prowessproject.com/hire-us/ Looking for join Prowess at a JOBSEEKER, go here: https://www.prowesstalent.io/ We had such an incredible conversation, and be sure to #subscribe for more videos and clips on how you can take your business and life to the next level!
If a mother is out of the workforce for just three years, she loses 37% of her total compensation power forever and this happens to 43% of educated and experienced women in the corporate world. This statistic was from the Harvard Business Review in 2018. It was also the statistic that launched Ashley Connell, today's guest, into action to form her company. Prowess Project is revolutionizing the hiring process for working moms. Her program not only helps women build the confidence to return to the workforce or pivot their careers but also gathers hundreds of data points on skill, expertise, behaviors, learning and communication style, emotional intelligence factors, and matches them up with jobs and employers with similar styles. One of the biggest barriers Ashley sees in working moms is their lack of confidence to return to work or pivot careers so we talk a lot about confidence in this episode too. Women of GenX and younger were all raised with the impossible standard of the "Super Mom". This mythical woman has the housekeeping and dinner creation ability of Donna Reed and is also a beast in the boardroom - shattering glass ceilings on the daily. The standard was set insanely high, and now women are left to struggle with all of the pressures and limitations that come with reality. There are only so many hours in the day, and so much one body can do - and for as far as we have come the bulk of the domestic burden continues to fall on women. Enter Ashley Connell. Ashley was angered by the disenfranchisement of women, the system way they are kept from board rooms with minimization of their professional and domestic contributions, and so much more. Some people get angry and then get over it, Ashley got angry and did something about it. She founded Prowess Project - an organization dedicated to helping women return to the workplace without losing career momentum. In this conversation she goes into what Prowess is and why it's amazing, but also so much more. 43% of women leave the workforce to have children and if they are out for just 3 years they lose 37% of their lifetime compensation power. Danielle and Kristy talk with Ashley Connell, Founder and CEO of Prowess Project, an organization dedicated to helping women re-enter the workforce by providing resources for connection, upskilling, and jobs. We cover other staggering statistics, male allyship, and how dealing with a tantrum-throwing two year old could make you the perfect candidate to manage executive stakeholders. In this episode we also both commit to a new challenge called ‘75 medium' and discuss a fact check from Episode 42: Childfree by Choice. Here's a sobering statistic that keeps Ashley Connell up at night: 43% of women leave the workforce to have children, and if out for just 3 years, a woman loses 37% of compensation power (Harvard Business Review). But at the same time, research shows that having women in leadership roles benefits the company in major, measurable ways. For example, firms with female CEOs often perform better in the stock market than those with male CEOs, and one study showed that female CEOs achieve up to 18 percent higher revenue per employee than male CEOs. So why the gender pay gap, if the benefits of having working mothers on your team are so obvious? That's what Ashley and I get into on this episode of #WeGotGoals, as we discuss the motivation behind the Prowess Project. The Prowess Project solves for two problems: first, teams struggling to find easy-to-hire, flexible talent that “hit the ground” running, and second, educated, experienced women who paused their careers, many to become caretakers, who want to get back into the workforce but can't find flexible, empowering jobs. By vetting and certifying these women in the latest tech tools, remote work, empathy and project management, Prowess Project matches them up with roles based on the skills needed and behavior compatibility with the new team. Ashley's passion for Prowess Project and women in the workforce rings clearly with every word she says in this interview. Along the way, we'll hear her talk about her previous big goal of working and living abroad as an adult, her advice to women entering the workforce at this moment in time, and what industries she thinks are most welcoming to women after a pause in their career. Although the workforce has changed over the years, the workplace has not. When women leave the workforce for childcare they have many hurdles to overcome when they decide they're ready to return. In episode 13 of Art of the App Podcast, Ashley Connell shares the negative effects women face after taking a step away from the workplace and the importance of advocating for them upon their return. We also discuss how the Prowess Project can give peace of mind knowing there are options for you to get back into the workforce.Ashley Connell, CEO and Founder of Prowess Project, is one part fearless entrepreneur, one part fearless women's advocate landing her thought leadership pieces in Forbes, Built in Austin and at SXSW. Some of the things Ashley and I discuss: The ways in which having children affects not only the compensation gap mothers face once they returns to work but how it affects the workforce in general. The shame around paternal leave resulting in fathers either taking a small fraction of what is offered or not taking it at all. Culture add vs. culture fit. What goes into Prowess Project's certification process and how they work to build you up in the areas you lack in. Reversing the stigma around working moms having less work ethic than others.
