Designers - today's episode is for YOU. Whether it's designing a website, creating a brand, or even just a simple graphic for a blog post, sometimes our creative minds just hit a wall. Maybe you can't focus, or you just don't feel like it, or you are actively looking for the inspiration, but you just can't find it. Recently, I launched a new template, and it got me thinking about my own creative process again. As a designer, there are times when we need to get in the zone and really focus on the project at hand, right? For example, when I was creating the new template, there were two times that I really had to get in the zone for an extended period of time. First, was during the “idea stage”. I had to think about the fonts and colors, the vibe, who is it for, and so much more. Later on, I had to make big tweaks and envision what cool things we could do within the template. In both situations, I needed to be creative and get in the zone, which is one of my favorite things to do as a designer anyway. It's a treasure to be able to turn off other business hats and focus solely on the design project. I know many of you listening feel the same way because you love being designers and you love the work you do. So today, I'm sharing 5 tips for getting in the zone when working on a design project. I would love to see how you make it your own, so make sure to find me on Instagram @elizabethmccravy and share what works for you when you get in the zone. BOOKED OUT WEEK: The Best Time to Join Booked Out Designer Are you listening to this as soon as this episode aired? Cool News - it's Booked Out Week! What is Booked Out Week? Episode Notes S4E9 -- Join us as we dive into the mind of the one and only John Fallon. He'll take us on his journey from Death Race & Saw II to his newest film "Break" John Fallon spent two years learning the technical aspects of filmmaking, and another three years perfecting his craft as an actor through a professional theater program (from which he graduated with honors). His feature length directorial debut "The Shelter" starring Michael Pare from his own screenplay was recently released in theaters, VOD and now on DVD to critical acclaim. The LA Times called it "remarkably ambitious" while Ain't it Cool News said "The Shelter is resonant in tone and spot on in execution!" He has a series of films at varied levels of development, including the action film EVA, the barbarian adventure film "The Prize" and the bleak period drama "Heretic", having to do with two Templars going through hell after the second Crusade. Many of his screenplays other were produced into films in the past including "Deaden", "Trance" and "American Muscle". John Fallon has also acted in such films as "Saw II", "100 Feet" opposite Famke Janssen, the French hit "Dead Shadows" and the action film "American Muscle". Finally, since the year 2000, John has been at the helm of one of the most successful horror movie websites in the world called Arrow in the Head, part of the JoBlo Movie Network, which led him to being a member of the Jury at the Sitges Film Festival, the Fantastic Fest Film Festival among many others. Personal Quote: When I started acting I loved the art of acting, the process but really hated the business side of it. As time went on I grew to appreciate it more and realize its importance. Now don't get me wrong to make it in this business it takes talent but its more about who you know, how well you network and how good you look that gets you the part. It took me a long time to understand that. If I knew then what I know now, I'd be closer to my ultimate goal. Better late than never I guess. I do what I do, some people like me for it, others hate me for it, that's life. I'm just trying to make a decent living within what I love - films - anything outside of that carries little weight for me Find out more at https://still-toking-with.pinecast.co

Matt Eskandari immigrated to the United States as a child with his family, following the Iranian revolution. He is an alumnus of the University of Southern California, and would direct several award-winning shorts; including "The Taking" (Screamfest Award for Best Student Short). The film propelled him to nationwide exposure when he was chosen by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett; from a pool of 12,000 candidates, to participate in the Fox filmmaker competition 'On the Lot.'Matt would go on to make his feature directorial debut with the psychological thriller "Victim." The controversial work was distributed by Ifc Films for theatrical release and hailed by Ain't it Cool News as, "a thinking man's Saw" and "both original and disturbing." Eskandari's next feature, "The Gauntlet," starring international stars Bai Ling and Dustin Nguyen was produced and shot entirely in China. It was one of the first China/US co-productions recognized by the Beijing Film Bureau and after a successful worldwide festival run was distributed as "Game of Assassins" by Lionsgate StudiosMatt's third feature, the self-contained swimming pool thriller "12 Feet Deep," starring Tobin Bell and Alexandra Park was praised by critics as, "a tensely directed hidden gem that will leave you struggling to breathe," and has gone on to become the single top selling title for MarVista - having amassed a record 40 million trailer views in its first months release.Inspired by true events, sisters Bree and Jonna get trapped beneath the fiberglass cover of an Olympic sized public pool after it closes for the holiday weekend. They find themselves at the mercy of the night janitor, Clara, who sees the trapped sisters as an opportunity to solve a few problems of her own.Coming from a unique cultural perspective and honing his directorial craft in genre films, Eskandari is ready to use his distinct voice to embark into a further exploration of human nature and delve into the relevant fears and themes of our modern day world. His latest film is "Wire Room" and has been said that this will be Bruce Willis' last film before his retirement.Action legend Bruce Willis comes out with guns blazing as Shane Mueller, a Homeland Security agent who runs the Wire Room, a high-tech command center surveilling the most dangerous criminals. New recruit Justin Rosa (Kevin Dillon, “Entourage”) must monitor arms-smuggling cartel member Eddie Flynn — and keep him alive at all costs. When a SWAT team descends on Flynn's home, Rosa breaks protocol and contacts the gangster directly to save his life. As gunmen break into the Wire Room and chaos erupts, Mueller and Rosa make a final, desperate stand against the corrupt agents and officials who seek to destroy evidence and kill them both.Enjoy my conversation with Matt Eskandari.

For early internet movie fans there was no bigger source for movie news and rumors than Aint It Cool News. Started by Austin film fanatic Harry Knowles in the late 90s and lasting for over 20 years, the heyday of the website saw them involved with and influencing everything from Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy to the launch of the Alamo Drafthouse to the downfall of Joel Schumacher's 'Batman and Robin' and the rise of the MCU and The Dark Knight. But the website and its webmaster were not without major controversy. Was Aint It Cool News and its toxic Talkback community the beginnings of today's internet hate culture? Downlowd: The Rise and Fall of Harry Knowles and Ain't It Cool News
Downlowd is a deep dive audio documentary series that explores the morally complicated, occasionally inspiring and often forgotten oral histories of the internet. For its first season titled “The Rise and Fall of Harry Knowles,” Downlow.d will delve into the meteoric rise of proto-online influencer Harry J. Knowles and his movie news website Ain't It Cool News. This eight-part series attempts to understand how a no-budget website created in a spare bedroom in Austin, Texas flexed unchecked power and influence over Hollywood. Harry Knowles, a semi paralysed man who frequently weighed more than 400 pounds was the last person anyone thought would be famous. Yet through his work on his formerly venerable movie news and reviews site Ain't It Cool News, which he launched in 1997, Knowles became the internet's ‘second celebrity.' The series will also show how Ain't It Cool News helped take internet movie geek culture out of fan conventions and into the mainstream before the site's creator was mired in controversy at the dawn of the #MeToo movement.
