Welcome to Episode 98 of The Last Standee Podcast! This is one where we have to apologize in advance for making you listen to Alessio for a feature-length episode. No, the team is still there. It's just that it's a mess sometimes to put together speakers geographically distant, and when illnesses and shaky world situation interfere, that's a recipe for missed episodes. We pull through the best we can, though, thank you. ...It was way more informative than what I meant initially, but it's fine. THIS IS FINE. EVERYTHING IS FINE. Anyway, Alessio takes the chance of being alone in the recording to talk about niche and upcoming project, such as Eternal Decks (take it!) in the Standee Catch-up, then talks about a Canadian (nonetheless!) project of three innovative games set up in the Twisted Realms. After this, it's time to do the laundry with the review of two Unmatched sets for the new course: Sun's Origin (for two players) and Slings and Arrows (for four players) - public domain heroes, the best ones! Finally, as it's compulsory for solo episodes, it's time for the big, genre-defining solo game of the episode: this time, we talk about Legacy of Yu. Uhhh, next one is episode 99! Can't wait for it! It will be legen

Mood: spiritual, cosmic, manifestation, self development Today, January 11 (1/11 or 11/1, depending on where you live and how you write dates!) is the “111 portal.” You may have seen some advice on TikTok about manifesting and calling in what you want on this energetically charged day, but our master astrologer, celestial teacher, spiritual hygiene expert, numerologist, and moon mama Shannon Aganza is here with some DIFFERENT advice. Yes, manifesting is coming… but we need to check on some other things first! This is our first episode diving into the world of numerology. To figure out your personal number (based on your birth date and year) and your personal YEAR number (which changes yearly on your birthday, and provides you a theme for your year!), we have some materials below. Consider this your episode guide, and have your numbers ready and in the back of your mind! CALCULATING YOUR PERSONAL NUMBER AND PERSONAL YEAR NUMBER Personal number numerology:  Add the individual digits of your birth date together (for example, Jan 1, 2000 would be 1+1+2+0+0+0 = 4) If you're left with a double digit number, add those digits together — UNLESS (!!) it's an 11, 22, 33, 44, etc. (for example, September 29, 1980 would be 9+2+9+1+9+8+0 = 38, 3+8 = 11 ; August 21, 1991 would be 8+2+1+1+9+9+1 = 31, 3+1 = 4) Personal YEAR number:  Now, use your birthday without the year, and add in the year of your most recent birthday. For instance, it's January 2024 now, but if your birthday is in March, use 2023 to calculate which year you're currently in (this will change on your birthday this year). March 1, 2023 would be 3+1+2+0+2+3 = 11 year. You'll change in 2024, on your birthday, to 3+1+2+0+2+4 = 12, 1+2= 3 (3 year).  Shannon's big lessons for today's numerology (11!) and 2024 at large (8)... Find a mantra or word for your energy this year “What do I need to feel whole without the addition of something outside of myself?” Moving into balance within a world of polarity Do money and possessions own YOU? What's your relationship with money and possessions and materials?  Turn your energy inward for better, more conscious manifestation energy Self accept, don't overthink Step into receptive energy (soft girl life!) Mood: validating, personal development, reflective, fun What do you want to be when you ‘grow up'? Here's a fun concept: you don't have to just be one thing your whole life.  Your style may change, your preferences may change, your appearance may change, your interests and passions and hobbies and careers… you get it. You have your own ERAS. Different life chapters. Seasons. You can live a dynamic life! As Oscar Wilde once said, “If you want to be a grocer, or a general, or a politician, or a judge, you will invariably become it; that is your punishment. If you never know what you want to be, if you live what some might call the dynamic life but what I will call the artistic life, if each day you are unsure of who you are and what you know you will never become anything, and that is your reward.”  Confidence and Mindset Coach Jenny Gaither, Creator of Brave Babe Glow Up, joins us for a chat about our personal evolution, our personal “Eras Tour.” What era are you in? Are you leveling up, glowing up, evolving?  Jenny tells us, “life is a progressive glow up.”  And if you're ready for a new era, a new glow up, a personal evolution… whether you're quitting your job, leaving a relationship, moving to a new country, or simply cutting your hair or changing your clothes… let us (Jenny) help! She walks us through the “anatomy of a glow up” and a Glow Up 101 (take notes!). Get ready for your best era yet… and a validating chat about not knowing what you want to be for the rest of your life (it's a good thing, we promise).

EPISODE 103: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:55) BARBARA WALTERS: IN MEMORIAM. Since her death Friday, there has been one story after another about Barbara Walters the groundbreaker and Barbara Walters the feminist and Barbara Walters the interviewer and Barbara Walters the role model and each of these accolades is more than justified. But I'm not seeing enough about Barbara Walters, the person with a large soul who survived as huge a disaster as ever befell the career of anybody in television, who fought her way back from punchline to immortal, and who thanked everybody who protected her, and tried to protect everybody - women and men alike - who might be facing any of the attacks she fought off in the years following 1976. As she wrote me once: "I'm not as tough as I pretend to be and the support means the world to me. I cannot thank you enough." B-Block (16:40) SPECIAL COMMENT: Chief Justice Roberts reinforced his reputation as the human embodiment of the "This Is Fine" dog in the burning room meme. Did his year end message on the judiciary for New Year's 2023 address Samuel Alito's insults towards this country? The revelation that he discussed Hobby Lobby with one of the theocrats before ruling? The madness of Ginni Thomas trying to overthrow the government? The Court throwing away its remaining credibility? No. He knows who the real victims here: The Justices. C-Block (26:15) SPECIAL COMMENT: Roberts, of course, is nothing compared to Sam Alito. Where is Alito's reply to The New York Times report about his leak to Hobby Lobby? Where is the Court's reply to the Judiciary Committees of the House and Senate demanding answers about it? Alito is a clear and present danger to this country.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Xenia Rubinos - "Cógelo Suave," a 2021 single on Anti-. Renowned for forging a sound that's completely her own, with influences ranging from R&B to punk, you never know what you're gonna get from Xenia Rubinos. The Brooklyn-based daughter of a Puerto Rican mother and a Cuban father uses her Berklee degree in jazz composition and early influences of classical music and opera to warp modern genres in unique yet timeless fashion.  One of the handful of singles the past year, “Cógelo Suave,” is one of those left-field songs that only Rubinos could pull off so well.  “It's a gibberish spaceship ride, high speed chase, birds and stars whirring around your head at the end of a cartoon fight,” Rubinos said in a statement about the song and, really, it's the most apt description. Made up primarily of swirling scat sounds, the few phrases dictated in the English language are “Well, I don't know” and “I'm doing fine.” Which makes sense, considering the song was born during the height of the pandemic, Spring 2020, when despair and paranoia were the overwhelming feelings of the moment. “The more I think about it, the more I realize that the world was totally burning down around us while we were producing this track,” Rubinos shared on Twitter, “and in Cógelo Suave I guess I'm saying ‘I'm fine. THIS IS FINE.'” As the song whirls down from its psychedelic high, a vintage-sounding voice floats down from the heavens saying, “Penetrando los misterios del universo” - “Penetrating the mysteries of the universe” - which is part of a taped radio show that Rubinos found digging through her dad's old cassettes. An appropriate addition considering when the present is so awful, it makes sense to turn to the past.  Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

David Roberts wrote for Vox.com in July, about the mental phenomenon of “shifting baselines,” in which we calibrate our expectations to the world we were born into, irrespective of what came before. And in so doing, he wrote, we unintentionally discount the severity of threats to our well-being. The term first came into fashion in 1995, when fisheries scientist Daniel Pauly observed that each generation of fisheries scientists accepts as a baseline the number of fish and the species composition at the beginning of their careers and uses that baseline to evaluate changes. Roberts spoke with Bob in the summer, about the social science of shifting baselines, generational amnesia and the psychological immune system — and what it all means for how we communicate about climate change. This is a segment from our July 17th program, “This Is Fine”.
