Tamara recently took a press trip to San Antonio, Texas, hosted by Visit San Antonio, to see what there was to do in San Antonio for families. She found that San Antonio has a lot of history and culture, great food, fun theme parks, and plenty of free or affordable attractions. San Antonio could make a great winter or spring break family vacation (when the weather is cooler). The city is also ideal for a girls' trip or couples getaway weekend. Top sites include: San Antonio is the theme park capital of Texas with four theme parks within a short drive. They have the largest SeaWorld of all the parks. There is also a Six Flags, Schlitterbahn water park, and Morgan's Wonderland. Morgan's Wonderland is an ultra-accessible amusement park but built so that everyone can play. Each ride and attraction has been designed from the ground up to be accessible and conscious of those with special needs. The San Antonio CityPASS can save you money if you want to visit quite a few museums and attractions (including the San Antonio Zoo). The Riverwalk extends for 15 miles and outside of the core downtown horseshoe section, it is a quiet and lush urban park. You can even kayak on the river. The Pearl is a dining and entertainment district with residences and the Hotel Emma. The food in San Antonio is great and it is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. Some highlights: Eddie's Taco Shop, Best American Daughter, Burgerteca, Stix and Stone, The Jerk Shack, and La Panaderia In addition to the Alamo, there are four other Missions that are run by the National Park Service, which offer even more to see. The Witte Museum is great for kids with plenty of interactive exhibits and play areas. The Japanese Tea Garden in Brackenridge Park is beautiful and peaceful Hemisfair Park downtown also is great for family with young kids with splash pads and climbing structures. Tamara stayed at the Intercontinental San Antonio Riverwalk on the quieter section of the Riverwalk. There are also great resort hotels in Hill Country just outside of San Antonio. See more about Tamara's trip and reasons to visit San Antonio with kids. Other Episodes You May Enjoy Girlfriend getaway to El Paso, Texas Things to do in Austin, Texas with kids

In this form they are too strong and can cause skin irritation.

Ever felt the urge to name a cockroach after an ex? Well, the San Antonio Zoo is one step ahead with its anti-Valentine's Day shenanigans, and we're all for this bizarre festivity. Alongside our witty guest Jordan, this episode frolics through the darkly comedic world of post-breakup rituals before taking an unexpected swerve into the less amusing health risks that our furry and not-so-furry companions can bring—yes, we're looking at you, cats and your bubonic plague ties. It's a rollercoaster of emotions and side-splitting commentary that'll have you reevaluating your pet-naming strategies. If you're craving a fix of movie madness, saddle up for our eclectic cinema roundup. Imagine Nicolas Cage chasing thrills in a horn-themed thriller or the head-scratching Mandela Effect that has us questioning reality itself. We dissect 'White of the Eye' with its jarring jumps in narrative and unconventional love triangles, while also rating films with a system that cuts straight to the chase: Binge Now, Binge Later, or Binge Never. The silver screen never looked so bewildering—or entertaining—as it does with our no-filter reviews. To cap it all off, we take a detour through the wilds of CGI landscapes, from cringe-worthy effects in TV adaptations to a nostalgic jaunt back to the 'Jurassic Park' era, which somehow still impresses. Throw in a dash of retro cartoon love with Ninja Turtles, a flick through the latest Netflix offerings, and a contemplative pause over whether Al Pacino can truly set the Valentine's mood, and you've got yourself a podcast episode that's as varied as Jordan's cat names. Tune in for some unapologetically honest pop culture banter that promises to tickle your funny bone and maybe, just maybe, make you view your cat with a tad more suspicion.See what's on STARZ tonight https://bit.ly/STARZBWOfferSupport the showDrop us a voicemail https://bit.ly/VOICEMAILTHEPODSay hi? host@bwpodcast.comPartner with us? sales@bwpodcast.com

The Secret Teachings
Money Magic for Valentine's Day (2/13/24)

The Secret Teachings

The old Lupercalia festival in Rome involved sacrificing a goat, a symbol of fertility, and through its hide and blood, transferring its life-essence and qualities to women, the land, and animals. A similar form of magic is now performed at places like the San Antonio Zoo, where for a few dollars one can name a rodent or roach after an ex and feed it to an animal. These are magical rituals. Even artificial insemination is a modern version of ancient sympathetic magical practices. What is most interesting about this whole thing is that whereas fertility and animal sacrifice use to dominate the holy day, now abortion and child sacrifice mark the same in our culture. Either way, from its various convoluted inceptions, which coalesced over time, Valentine's Day has always been strongly rooted in one thing: fertility - a person's ability to conceive a child. Such focus applied to adult men and women, fields and crops, and animals. Despite natural adjustments over time, which are to be expected, and despite our proclivity to create new traditions intentionally or otherwise, this day of fertility has absolutely nothing to do with so-called alternate lifestyles. Homosexuals could, by some arbitrary measure, love each other as much or more than heterosexuals, but Valentine's Day is still not for them outside the commercialized products that appeal to emotions rather than biology - this year the National Retail Federation estimates the projected total of expenditure to reach $25.8-billion, slightly down from 2023. There is nothing necessarily wrong with the former, though Valentine's gifts for animals are literally more traditional than the same for gay couples. It's the opening of the market not just to other non-fertility forms of ‘love', but of buying items for friends and family members too. We shouldn't confuse the desire for profit, which also isn't necessarily bad, with the open loving arms of so-called acceptance. As for heterosexuals, since fertility is the origin of Valentine's Day, anything preventing procreation, including birth control, condoms, plan B, etc., are really antithesis to the original celebration. -FREE ARCHIVE & RSS: https://www.spreaker.com/show/the-secret-teachingsTwitter: https://twitter.com/TST___RadioWEBSITE, BOOKS, RESUBSCRIBE YEARLY: http://thesecretteachings.infoPaypal: rdgable@yahoo.comCashApp: $rdgableBuy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/tstradioSUBSCRIBE TO NETWORK: http://aftermath.mediaEMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.com

Her boyfriend asked for a ‘break' from the relationship, and she later found out he was having an affair with a ‘junior apprentice'. She hid seafood marinara mix under the seat of his vintage car. The power of curiosity and contemplation is woven throughout this entire conversation. Amanda did not hesitate to dive into the mystery of what it means to be alive and deeply human. Amanda and I met when our respected non-profits collaborated and partnered to rollout a summer reading program for tiny humans in San Diego. The only encounters we had were in a virtual group setting the spring of 2020 trying to problem solve and adapt an in-person reading program in the midst of a pandemic. Reflecting on folks I would love to have a deeper and more candid conversation with for season 4, I remembered the small glimpses in breakout rooms and ice breakers I shared with Amanda, and I had to reach out. I was stoked when she agreed to chat with me.  Amanda Bonds serves as Program Director at Words Alive, providing leadership for a portfolio of programs targeting children, youth, and parents including our Read Aloud Program, Family Literacy Program, and Teen Services Programs. Amanda also manages agency evaluation efforts and represents Words Alive on multiple education-focused community partnerships across the county, such as the Diamond Education Excellent Partnership, where she currently serves on the Board of Directors as chair of the 0-5 Working Group. A 2014 Fellow of the San Diego Leadership Alliance, Amanda earned her master's degree in literature from the University of California, San Diego prior to joining Words Alive in 2009. Believing in the power of learning, her teaching history includes college-level writing at UCSD, elementary age classrooms in Jamaica and summer programs at the San Antonio Zoo. Before moving west, Amanda served as an AmeriCorps volunteer with the Keeping Austin Housed Coalition, providing advocacy and case management to homeless immigrant families in her native state of Texas.
