We start by introducing the concept of the Stage Gate process and its relevance in the food industry. We explain it as a series of decision points (gates) where projects are evaluated before moving to the next stage. We then address common misconceptions, such as the belief that the Stage Gate process is a "sales prevention" structure, emphasising instead that it is a flexible framework adaptable to different business needs and projects. Our discussion moves on to the flexibility and implementation of the Stage Gate process, highlighting how it can be tailored to fit various project complexities. We stress the importance of upfront scoping and understanding project requirements to determine the appropriate process path. The significance of clear roles and responsibilities is also discussed, noting that the process involves the entire business, not just the New Product Development (NPD) team.We identify critical points in the process where structure is essential and provide examples of how different projects might require varying levels of rigour and flexibility. We also address common problems such as missing documentation, unnecessary meetings, and unclear processes that can give the Stage Gate a bad name, and propose solutions like using templates, clear sign-offs, and proper documentation to streamline the process. We emphasise the importance of communication and buy-in from all stakeholders, showing how a well-implemented Stage Gate process can lead to better teamwork and project success. We wrap up the episode with our closing thoughts on the benefits of a well-implemented Stage Gate process and encourage you, our listeners, to view it as a supportive framework rather than a rigid structure. To book onto our NPD Fundamentals course mentioned during this episode please click herehttps://fearlessfoodies.co.uk/npdfundamentalsTIMESTAMPS:00:00:00 - Introduction to the Stage Gate Process00:01:25 - Common Misconceptions00:02:47 - Flexibility and Implementation00:06:03 - Role Clarity and Communication00:10:20 - Critical Points and Timing00:12:59 - Sponsor Message: Dama Ingredients00:13:40 - Common Problems and Solutions00:15:31 - Significance of Communication and Buy-In00:17:08 - Closing ThoughtsLinks and Resources:Website Link: https://ohforfoodssake.co.uk/FB Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ohforfoodsakeLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/oh-for-food-s-sake/You can follow us here on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oh_forfoodssake/For industry consulting from Lucy, connect with her on Instagram or LinkedIn.Find her on Instagram or LinkedIn for further support with industry coaching and facilitation from Amy.See you next time!

Hour 1 with Dorin Dickerson and Adam Crowley: It's a party on 5th Ave. The Penguins are in a playoff spot again and survived after blowing a two-goal lead to Detroit. They can't play the way they did to win, but if they lost, the vibes and emotions would not be high. We dive into the victory. The Penguins took their time and found a good approach in overtime this time with Sidney Crosby being patient to find Erik Karlsson for the OT winner. We had the Erik Karlsson experience last night playing poor defensively on two goals. Crosby scored a goal and totaled two assists. Sidney Crosby could realistically pass Jaromir Jagr at some point for 2nd all time in scoring. We think he should receive Hart Trophy votes. Auston Matthews should receive mention. There are guys with unreal point totals this year, but the Penguins are nowhere without Sidney Crosby. Crosby was voted by his peers as the most complete hockey player for the fifth season in a row. He now has 1,000 career assists. We look at some of the players who Crosby has set up over the years.

June 20, 2023 Your Favorite Interior Design Podcast S1 Ep36In this episode, we discuss the challenges faced by Cross Construction while demolishing an old home and building a new one. Here are the key points we cover:1. On-boarded mid-project: Cross Construction approached us for assistance while the project was already in full swing. The builder, Alex Cross, needed help with ordering materials for interior finishes. However, he lacked the necessary details such as quantities, trim pieces, and installation patterns. The interior design was not fully developed, and the existing team couldn't provide the required level of detail. We stepped in and created a comprehensive plan set, expanding the detailed elevations from 6 to 31, enabling Alex to proceed with the construction smoothly.2. Out-of-State Homeowner: Since the property was a second home, the owners resided out of state. This posed challenges for the general contractor in filling in the gaps and presenting design options to the owner. As a builder, they were not equipped to provide remote services as they were the "boots on the ground." Leveraging our experience in working on out-of-state projects, we established streamlined communication channels and ensured a high-touch experience for the client, despite the geographical distance.3. Critical Points in Building: Building a home for the first time can be a stressful experience. We highlight that there are critical junctures during the construction process that can expose weak links. In this case, incomplete design and inadequate communication channels hindered the progress. By addressing these challenges head-on and providing the necessary support, we helped strengthen the construction process and ensured a successful outcome for the homeowner.Tune in to this episode as we dive deeper into the unique challenges faced during this project and explore strategies for overcoming obstacles in the construction industry. Whether you're a builder, homeowner, or simply interested in the construction process, this episode offers valuable insights and practical tips. Resource advocacy, frameworks for saying yes / no, & removing critical points of failure w/ Megan Kacholia #120

As eng leaders, we're often strapped for resources – so learning how to advocate for more support is vital. Megan Kacholia, VP of Engineering @ Google, reveals her best strategies when it comes to asking for more resources, removing linchpins / critical points of failure from your eng team, encouraging others to accept changes that will benefit them, knowing when to say “yes” vs. “no” to new responsibilities (and the trade-offs that come with that decision), and navigating challenging situations as a manager.ABOUT MEGAN KACHOLIAMegan Kacholia is a Vice President of Engineering within Google's Core organization.  She is a leader in the Cross-Google Engineering (xGE) effort, which is responsible for company-wide technical coordination. Her passion is building effective teams and addressing barriers to help Googlers do their best work.Previously, Megan was and VP in Google's Research organization, where her team's work spanned machine learning in research as well as production, including products such as TensorFlow, and prior to that she had a long tenure in Google's Ads organization, where she ran the serving system for Google's DisplayAds business.  Megan has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from UIUC."At the end of the day, we had to be able to explain it to the team. Right? And I can't go and tell the team and be like, 'Well, the opex costs are too high because you know of this reason with the headcount and this and that and I know so and so told you they love you, but really it didn't mean this thing.'In some ways, those details don't matter, right? What matters is these people are worried that their project's getting shut down. So when it came time to communicate that we actually were gonna shut it down. We have to do an official shutdown because we have to announce it externally. So that means we have to make sure people only have so many weeks to find a new project and all of these things. So the main thing I emphasize when I talked to them wasn't about like, 'Oh, I did all of this work to try and save your project, and I couldn't.' That was irrelevant. It couldn't be saved. The most important thing was about what's the impact for the people? Well, I've already lined up options and positions for every single one.”- Megan Kacholia  Check out our friends and sponsor, JellyfishTo learn more about Jellyfish and how they can help you increase engineering satisfaction and create happier, higher-performing engineering teams.Learn more at Jellyfish.co/elcJoin us for one of our in-person community events! That's right! Two new papers focusing on hand hygiene aspects of care have already been published and a third has also been accepted. The first looked at hand hygiene compliance at critical points of care (Chang, N.N., et al., Hand Hygiene Compliance at Critical Points of Care. In this episode, Martin talks to Professor Loreen Herwaldt, from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.  We discuss three new papers on hand hygiene compliance that have come from data originally collected that looked at the implementation of surveillance feedback and barrier precautions for a study published in the NEJM (Huskins, W.C., et al., Intervention to reduce transmission of resistant bacteria in intensive care. N Engl J Med, 2011. 364(15): p. 1407-18. https://www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMoa1000373?url_ver=Z39.88-2003&rfr_id=ori:rid:crossref.org&rfr_dat=cr_pub%20%200www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). Two new papers focusing on hand hygiene aspects of care have already been published and a third has also been accepted. The first looked at hand hygiene compliance at critical points of care (Chang, N.N., et al., Hand Hygiene Compliance at Critical Points of Care. Clin Infect Dis, 2021. 72(5): p. 814-820. https://doi.org/10.1093/cid/ciaa130) and the second examined the sequence of patient care (Chang, N.C., et al., Hand hygiene and the sequence of patient care. Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol, 2021: p. 1-6. https://doi.org/10.1017/ice.2021.82). The third paper that we discuss is a forthcoming paper on the time taken to perform hand hygiene.

Metals are found frequently in nature and their properties are usually very well described within Landaus Fermi liquid theory. Various strongly correlated materials exhibit strange metallic phases which do not fit into the Fermi-liquid framework, however. The theoretical description of such non-Fermi liquids remains one of the main unsolved problems in condensed matter physics. In this talk I will give an introduction to the problem and show how interesting strongly coupled field theories arise in the low energy description of such states, which are still very poorly understood. I will focus on the paradigmatic problem of a metal coupled to fluctuations of a critical Ising order parameter and discuss unexpected scaling properties at finite temperature.

Selling your Triad area home? Get a free home analysis reportBuying a Triad area home? Search all homes for saleBuyers who may not be seeing what they’re hoping to find in the resale market have been asking whether now is a good time to build a new home. Actually, it is. Now is likely one of the best times to build new construction, as this type of home purchase eliminates the element of competing buyers from the deal. However, there are some considerations to keep in mind before making the final decision to build. First of all, the newer the home, the longer you should stay in it. So for new construction purchases, you should probably plan on living in the home for quite some time. This is especially true if you’re buying into a development where other homes are still being produced. Because in this case, buyers planning to move in the next few years will be competing with the builder as they attempt to list their home. In terms of benefits, though, new construction properties have phenomenal warranties. New construction is, therefore, an especially desirable option for those who may not have emergency funds in place, as these properties are less likely to have major issues anytime soon. “The agent present during a new construction open house represents the builder’s best interests, not yours. ”So with bidding wars as common as they have been lately in our market, now is truly a great time to consider purchasing a new construction home. But make sure that when proceeding with this type of deal, you are well represented. Don’t approach a builder without an agent by your side. The agent present during a new construction open house represents the builder’s best interests, not yours. If you have any other questions or would like more information, feel free to give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
