Tim Conway Jr Show Hour 3 (5.26) Corporations are targeting the veterinary world because the business model is almost too good to ignore. Pet care is considered recession-resistant because roughly two-thirds of American households' own pets, and most people now treat their animals like family. That means owners are often willing to pay for care even when budgets are tight. Add in the “silver tsunami” of baby boomer veterinarians retiring and selling their clinics, and suddenly there is a flood of practices available for deep-pocketed buyers. Then comes vertical integration: the same large players can own the clinic, the lab, the medicine, the diagnostics, and even the pet insurance. That is how companies make money at every step of the process. As baby boomers reach age 80 this year, with the immigrant population in the US diminishing, and seeing the almost 80% turnover of employees in home care, assisted living and nursing home care, we are getting ever closer to the Silver Tsunami. Even today, we don't have enough licensed care givers to meet the need of our aging population. That's before we consider the massive need for geriatricians who provide medical treatment for the elderly. Our primary care physicians are reporting they don't feel comfortable diagnosing or addressing patient questions about dementia. And there are not enough specialists to manage this need. Those with LTC insurance that can be used to pay for care by anyone, licensed or not, are going to be able to help their families help them better and longer when an extended care need shows up. And I say this often - these long term care needs do just show up. We need to prepare for them today, while we're healthy enough to be approved for coverage. Tony tackles the second most common question from savers: "How much money do I need to retire comfortably?" He notes that as the "Silver Tsunami" grows to 11,000 people turning 65 daily, the financial world is increasingly aggressive with "pitches." Tony argues that comfort is entirely subjective and cannot be found in a generic Wall Street number. He warns against the "comparison trap"—worrying about whether your "pile" is as big as your neighbor's. Instead, he emphasizes that true comfort comes from a written Game Plan that aligns your unique assets with your personal lifestyle goals, provided by a fiduciary who focuses on your specific needs rather than a standardized product.
Everyone's been waiting for the silver tsunami to crash the Canadian housing market — a flood of boomer homes hitting the market, prices correcting, and millennials finally getting their shot. It hasn't happened, and it's not going to happen the way anyone expects. In this episode, Nick and Dan break down the real story behind Canada's aging population: 9.2 million boomers who own 41% of Canadian homes, why they're not selling, and why the "silver tsunami" isn't a housing supply event at all, it's a slow-motion structural reshaping of Canada's economy, labour force, and wealth distribution. Why meaningful downsizing doesn't start at 65, it starts at 75, and what that means for timing The $1 trillion generational wealth transfer, and why it's widening inequality rather than closing it Senior housing: Canada's best-performing REIT category of 2025 (+62%) and the 450,000-unit supply gap by 2040 The trades labour cliff, 700,000 skilled workers retiring by 2029 and what it does to your construction and reno budgets The small business succession crisis: $2 trillion in assets, 91% with no succession plan, and the ripple effect on commercial and residential real estate EDMONTON MULTIPLEX EVENT Try it NordVPN risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! Jeffrey Mosher welcomes back Dwayne Powell Jr., Chief Operating Officer and Managing Partner of Kalamazoo Forward Ventures & Marcel Fable Price, Director of Platform and Programming at Kalamazoo Forward Ventures. Questions ● Can you tell us what inspired Kalamazoo Forward Ventures to launch Tsunami Lab? ● Nearly 40 percent of the nation's small businesses are owned by baby boomers, with an estimated $10 to $15 trillion in business value changing hands over the next decade. How does Tsunami Lab respond to that reality? ● Tsunami Lab is partnering with Kalamazoo Valley Community College to launch the first cohort. What does that partnership make possible? ● What does it mean to transform the Silver Tsunami into an inclusive wealth transfer moment? ● How does Tsunami Lab help build a new class of business owners in Southwest Michigan? ● The deadline to apply is March 19. What would you say to someone who has always wanted to own a business but isn't sure if this is for them? ● Tsunami Lab is described as being just as much for retiring business owners as it is for buyers. Can you explain what that means? ● Looking ahead, what does success look like for Tsunami Lab? Talking Points ● The Succession Crisis Reality: Fewer than 30 percent of baby boomer business owners have a succession plan. Without intervention, trillions in business value — and the jobs and community roots that go with it — are largely left to chance. Tsunami Lab is KzFV's answer to that challenge. ● Local Ownership, Local Impact: Tsunami Lab is built on the belief that business succession is not just a transaction — it's an opportunity to keep generational wealth and employment rooted in the communities where they were built. ● An On-Ramp to Ownership: Rather than only betting on startups, Tsunami Lab trains people to step into existing, proven, cash-flowing businesses. It's a more stable path to ownership, with coaching, community, and capital partners built in. ● Regional Economic Development: KzFV's goal is to identify 50 companies looking to sell within the next year and match them with the next generation of local owners — protecting jobs, preserving legacies, and expanding ownership to people who have historically been left out of that conversation. About Kalamazoo Forward Ventures Kalamazoo Forward Ventures, KzFV, is one of the largest Black-founded investment firms in the Midwest, managing more than $50 million in assets. The firm deploys venture capital, Mainstreet acquisition capital, and strategic real estate investments to expand ownership, preserve local businesses, and strengthen Michigan's economic foundation. Operating with institutional discipline, KzFV pairs capital with operational support, strategic partnerships, and leadership development to facilitate business succession, protect local jobs, and create durable pathways to generational wealth. By investing in both growth-stage companies and established businesses in transition, KzFV is building a scalable model for inclusive economic growth that is measurable, investable, and transformative. Aging in Place: Safety, Technology, & Dignity w/ Drew Siefried of TruBlue Ally - AZ TRT S07 EP04 (286) 3-1-2026 Things We Learned This Week · America is aging rapidly - By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans will be over 65. · Most seniors want to stay in their homes - More than 80% of older adults prefer aging in place rather than moving to assisted living. · Technology is transforming senior safety - Non-intrusive monitoring systems can detect falls and alert families without cameras or wearables. · One fall can change everything - Falls are one of the leading causes of injury and loss of independence among seniors. · Prevention is far cheaper than crisis care - Simple home safety upgrades can prevent accidents and help seniors maintain independence longer. Guest: Drew Seifried LKIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drewseifried/ Company: TruBlue Home Service Ally Website: https://www.trublueally.com/east-phoenix-north-scottsdale With over 25 years of combined corporate and entrepreneurial experience, I currently own and operate TruBlue Home Service Ally, where we support seniors and busy families with home modifications and handyman services. Helping you maintain your home both inside and out, TruBlue's services include: handyman projects and to-do list chores, preventative home maintenance programs, seasonal work, and senior modification services, all handled by a professional, bonded and insured Tru-Pro® Technician. Episode Overview America is entering a major demographic shift. By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans will be over the age of 65, creating what many experts call the "Silver Tsunami." Families across the country will face new challenges as aging parents want to maintain independence while staying safe at home. But aging at home safely requires planning. In this episode, we sit down with Drew Seifried of TruBlue Home Service Ally to discuss how home safety modifications, emerging Age Tech, and non-intrusive monitoring technologies are helping seniors stay independent longer — while providing peace of mind for their families. We also explore the unique needs of veterans and individuals with disabilities, and how communities and organizations can better support them. Segment 1: Aging in Place & The Silver Tsunami Drew Seifried owns three territories with TruBlue, a national franchise focused on helping people safely remain in their homes. The company works primarily with: · Seniors and aging adults · People with disabilities · Veterans · Adult children caring for aging parents Their mission is simple: help people live independently and safely at home. The Growing Senior Population America is rapidly aging. Key statistics: · 61 million Americans are age 65+ · By 2030, about 20% of the population will be seniors · Phoenix and other Sun Belt cities are seeing rapid senior population growth as retirees relocate This demographic shift will place new pressure on: · Healthcare systems · Caregiver workforce · Family members caring for aging parents The Hidden Risk: Falls in the Home One of the biggest threats to senior independence is falling. Key statistics: · 1 in 4 adults age 65+ falls each year · Falls cause over 3 million emergency room visits annually · More than 300,000 seniors are hospitalized each year for hip fractures · Over 50% of falls occur inside the home In many cases, one fall can change everything. A serious fall can lead to: · Hospitalization · Loss of mobility · Long-term disability · Moving into assisted living The Most Dangerous Areas in a Home According to home safety experts, the highest risk areas include: · Bathrooms (tubs and showers) · Entryways and stairs · Poor lighting · Cluttered hallways or walkways Even small modifications can dramatically reduce fall risk. Preventing Falls Before They Happen TruBlue helps families install preventative safety upgrades such as: · Bathroom grab bars · Non-slip shower treatments · Improved lighting · Handrails and stair supports · Walkway hazard removal The company also performs full home safety assessments to identify hidden risks. As Drew explains, the goal is prevention — because once a fall happens, recovery can be much more difficult. Aging at Home vs Assisted Living Another major challenge families face is cost. Average assisted living costs in the U.S.: · $5,000–$6,000 per month · Often $60,000–$70,000 per year By comparison, many safety upgrades or in-home services cost a fraction of that. And most seniors prefer to stay home. Surveys show: · 84% of seniors want to age in place · Independence and familiarity with their home environment matter deeply Segment 2: Age Tech & Smart Monitoring One challenge facing families is the shrinking caregiver workforce. With fewer caregivers available, technology is stepping in to help monitor safety. Adult children want peace of mind that their parents are safe — especially when they live in another city. But many seniors dislike traditional monitoring systems. Common concerns include: · Cameras in the home · Wearable emergency devices · Privacy issues · Technology complexity A New Approach: Radar-Based Monitoring A newer technology solution is radar-based monitoring systems like those from Pontosense. These systems use small radar sensors placed throughout the home. They can detect: · Falls · Movement patterns · Breathing and vital signals Unlike cameras, they are completely non-intrusive. Features include: · No cameras · No wearable devices · No audio recording · No stored video data The system can detect unusual events and send alerts. Smart Alerts for Families If a fall occurs, the system can: · Wait about 90 seconds to see if someone gets up (reducing false alerts) · Send notifications to family members · Contact caregivers · Alert emergency services if necessary Family members can also monitor activity patterns through a mobile app. For adult children balancing careers, families, and aging parents, this technology provides peace of mind without invading privacy. Segment 3: Disability Services & Veteran Support TruBlue also works with individuals living with disabilities and veterans who require specialized home modifications. Organizations supporting the disability community include: · Ability360 · Benevilla These groups offer programs ranging from adaptive sports to community support services. Health Challenges as We Age Many older adults face conditions that impact mobility or independence. These can include: · Arthritis · Balance issues · Progressive neurological diseases like ALS or MS · Reduced strength and coordination Simple tasks — getting into a bathtub, climbing stairs, or reaching shelves — can become difficult. Home modifications can restore independence. Importantly, these upgrades can be designed to blend into the home aesthetically, preserving both function and dignity. Supporting Veterans Veterans represent another group that often needs home safety support. Key statistics: · Approximately 17 million veterans live in the United States · Nearly 8 million veterans are age 65 or older Despite available programs, many veterans do not utilize assistance. Organizations working to support veterans include: · Paralyzed Veterans of America · Veterans of Foreign Wars · Elks Lodge Drew himself served in the military and is passionate about helping veterans access services and resources. Additional Home Safety Monitoring Beyond fall prevention, modern smart homes can also monitor: · Smoke and fire detection · Water leaks and flooding · Utility failures · Entry and exit activity These systems help families create a safer living environment for aging loved ones. Final Takeaway Aging doesn't have to mean losing independence. With the right combination of: · Home safety modifications · Smart technology · Community resources · Family planning Millions of seniors can live longer, safer, and more confidently in their own homes. Your Next Best Step: Helping Small Business owners build a plan for a brighter future
A massive wave of small business owners are preparing to retire — and many are not ready for what comes next. In this episode of The C-Suite Mentor Podcast, Theresa Cantley sits down with business broker Jay Calandra to unpack what the "Silver Tsunami" means for Main Street businesses, why so many exits fail in due diligence, and how owners can dramatically increase the value of their business before selling. From succession planning and operational readiness to the emotional impact of leaving a business behind, Jay shares firsthand insights from both sides of the table — as a former Main Street business owner who sold his own company and now helps others navigate exits. Together, Theresa and Jay explore how leaders can prepare their business years in advance, protect their legacy, and avoid the costly mistakes that derail deals at the finish line. Things to Listen For: • Why millions of small business owners are approaching retirement at the same time [4:30] • The biggest gap between what owners think their business is worth vs. what buyers will pay [8:45] • Why businesses that can't run without the owner are harder to sell [13:20] • The role of clean financials and documentation in successful exits [18:10] • How due diligence fatigue kills deals before closing [23:40] • The emotional reality of selling a business no one prepares owners for [29:15] • Why legacy preservation is often lost in modern acquisitions [33:50] • The hidden identity shift that happens after selling your business [38:20] • How to start exit planning years before you're "ready" [42:10] BOOK A C-SUITE SNAPSHOT: If you're ready to uncover where your business is breaking down and create a clear plan for the next 60–90 days, book a C-Suite Snapshot. Together we'll identify what's not working, what needs to change, and where the biggest opportunities for momentum exist. https://theresacantley.com/business-audit BOOK A COFFEE CHAT: Want to talk through where you're stuck or what's shifting inside your business? Book a free virtual coffee chat and let's explore what support you need to lead with more confidence, clarity, and alignment. https://meetwiththeresa.as.me/virtualcoffee Shownotes In this episode, Theresa Cantley welcomes business broker and former Main Street business owner Jay Calandra for a powerful conversation about preparing for business exit, legacy, and leadership transitions. The Silver Tsunami and the Future of Main Street Theresa and Jay explore the massive wave of business owners approaching retirement and why so many Main Street businesses are unprepared for transition, sale, or succession. Why Most Business Owners Overestimate Their Exit Value Jay explains the disconnect between perceived business value and market reality — and how poor preparation, emotional attachment, and unclear financials create painful surprises at sale time. Building a Sellable Business (Not Just a Profitable One) The conversation unpacks what actually makes a business attractive to buyers: operational independence from the owner, documented processes, strong leadership structure, and repeatable systems. Due Diligence: Where Deals Go to Die Jay shares how deals often fall apart during due diligence due to incomplete financials, hidden liabilities, or owner fatigue — and why preparation years in advance dramatically increases success rates. Clean Financials, Clean Exits The importance of accurate books, professional accounting, and transparency is highlighted as a non-negotiable foundation for any successful exit strategy. Preserving Legacy in a Changing Business Landscape Theresa and Jay discuss the emotional weight of selling a business, fears around legacy destruction, and the reality that new owners may not share the same values as founders. The Emotional Transition No One Warns You About Jay reflects on the identity shift that occurs after selling a business — the loss of daily purpose, relationships, and routine — and why leaders must plan for what comes after the exit, not just the transaction itself. Planning Your Exit Years in Advance This episode reinforces why exit planning should begin 3+ years before selling, allowing time to strengthen leadership, document processes, stabilize financials, and prepare emotionally for the transition. Final Leadership Reflection Selling a business isn't just a financial transaction — it's a personal transformation. True leadership means preparing your company to thrive without you while also preparing yourself for who you will become next.

Ken also reveals his unusual Entrepreneurship strategy of buying up phone numbers from dead businesses to generate millions in leads. The "Silver Tsunami" is creating a massive opportunity to buy retiring baby boomers' businesses with established brand equity.Cut a target company's historical customer base in half during your evaluation because you will lose customers during the transition.Target companies priced accurately or above market, as underpriced businesses attract budget-conscious customers who flee when prices are corrected.Buying a bankrupt competitor's dormant phone number can instantly generate revenue through existing service call volume.Build a strict 1,000-day plan with a budget and schedule before acquiring a company to ensure a highly profitable exit.Tags: Business buying, Entrepreneurship, Home Services, HVAC, Goettl, Business scaling.Resources:Grow your business today: https://links.upflip.com/the-business-startup-and-growth-blueprint-podcast Connect with Ken: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kenneth-d-goodrich-ba580427

Gen X and Millennials are set to inherit nearly $2.4 trillion in U.S. real estate over the next decade, and the impact is already being felt—especially in luxury housing markets. A new report from Coldwell Banker Global Luxury reveals that Americans aged 60 and older now control nearly two-thirds of U.S. wealth, fueling what's being called the "Silver Tsunami." As this massive wealth transfer accelerates, high-end real estate markets are seeing shifting demand, rising price points, and more legacy properties coming to market. According to reporting first highlighted by The Wall Street Journal, wealthy families are buying properties earlier, restructuring ownership through LLCs, and favoring flexible luxury condominiums over traditional co-ops—particularly in markets like New York City and South Florida. In this episode, Kathy Fettke breaks down what this generational wealth transfer means for luxury housing, real estate investors, and long-term market trends as Millennials prepare to inherit the largest share over the next 25 years. Podcast: Industrial Cybersecurity InsiderEpisode: The Silver Tsunami: Manufacturing's Talent and Knowledge Retirement CrisisPub date: 2025-11-18Get Podcast Transcript →powered by Listen411 - fast audio-to-text and summarizationIn this milestone 100th episode, Craig and Dino tackle the critical intersection of workforce retirement and industrial cybersecurity knowledge in manufacturing. They explore how 82% of manufacturing workforce exits are due to retirement, creating a dangerous knowledge vacuum as decades of plant expertise walk out the door. The conversation reveals why traditional IT security tools consistently miss 50-70% of OT assets, the problematic practice of buying equipment that's obsolete before installation, and why plant operators bypass corporate security policies when downtime costs a million dollars per day. Craig and Dino state that the solution isn't just better tools, it's bridging the gap between centralized IT teams and the decentralized OT ecosystem by partnering with the system integrators and OEMs who actually keep plants running. They discuss how manufacturers must choose between multi-million dollar capital investments in modern equipment or implementing proper network segmentation and security around legacy systems. They address the reasons why the next generation of talent won't be attracted to facilities running decades-old technology.Chapters:(00:00:00) - Introduction and Industry Growth Update(00:02:15) - The Silver Tsunami: 82% of Manufacturing Exits Are Retirements(00:05:42) - Why IT Security Tools Miss 50-70% of OT Assets(00:09:18) - The Knowledge Vacuum: What Happens When Experience Walks Out(00:13:05) - Why Plant Operators Bypass Corporate Security Policies(00:16:30) - The Problem with Buying Obsolete Equipment(00:19:45) - Centralized IT vs Decentralized OT: Bridging the Gap(00:23:20) - Building Partnerships with System Integrators and OEMs(00:26:50) - Capital Investment vs Network Segmentation Strategy(00:29:35) - Attracting Next-Gen Talent to Manufacturing EnvironmentsLinks And Resources:Want to Sponsor an episode or be a Guest?
