Send us a textWe're revisiting an episode from the early days of Dorktales Storytime as we get ready for the launch of Season 6 with brand-new tales and adventures on February 6th! “The Three Little Hogs” was the very first fairy tale we told when the podcast began in 2020. It's where you'll meet the three hedgehog brothers—Percy, Porky, and Peregrin—and encounter the Big Bad Wolf before he had a change of heart. Relive the beginnings of Jonathan and Redge's budding friendship before they set off on their storytelling journey together. The Three Little…HOGS? Who's heard of that? According to Mr. Reginald T. Hedgehog, our Dorktales sidekick, it's a classic tale from the fairy tale cannon! Come hear our storyteller recount the story of hedgehogs Porky, Percy and Peregrin, and their ultimate triumph over the dastardly wolf using a glue pot, rapier and a wheel barrow. According to Percy, “It's epic, man!”Go to the episode webpage: https://jonincharacter.com/dorktales-three-little-hogs/ HEY GROWNUPS: Sign up to receive our podcast newsletter every two weeks and you'll receive FREE access to our Dorktales Storytime Podcast's Resource Library filled with activity guides, conversation starter PDFs, printables and more: https://dorktalesstorytime.aweb.page/Dorktales-Library-Card CREDITS: This episode is a Jonincharacter production. Send us a textAs we prepare for the exciting launch of Season 6 of Dorktales Storytime on February 6th, we're revisiting some favorite past adventures. Ever wondered how Jonathan found the magical doorway into Once Upon a Time or met his storytelling best friend, Reginald T. Hedgehog? This is the backstory to all our Dorktales adventures. This also answers the question our listener friend, Jose, asked about how Jonathan can go between Once Upon a Time and the real world. On an otherwise normal day, a portal opens in a mysterious tree hidden in the very corners of a California redwood forest. Jonathan walks through the trunk and tumbles into the mystical, magical land of Once Upon a Time. Mr. Reginald T. Hedgehog, who's out on his daily walk around his hovel, encounters this lost human. The two discover their kinship and begin their quest to bring joy and understanding to others through stories. As the sun sets behind the Cliffhanger mountains, they set sail across the Fantasea in pursuit of their first storytelling adventures!Go to the episode webpage: https://jonincharacter.com/the-magical-doorwayHEY GROWNUPS: Sign up to receive our podcast newsletter every two weeks and you'll receive FREE access to our Dorktales Storytime Podcast's Resource Library filled with activity guides, conversation starter PDFs, printables and more: https://dorktalesstorytime.aweb.page/Dorktales-Library-Card CREDITS: This episode is a Jonincharacter production. There's so much to learn when it comes to the English language and it's cram full with colourful sayings. If you're an English native speaker, you've probably learned plenty of them by some kind of osmosis. In this episode I unpack the idea that there isn't logic behind some of these sayings. I'm here to tell you there really are English sayings that adults use that just don't make any sense. Tell me this isn't the bittersweet truth Listeners: You can't have your cake and eat it too. Thrilled to also bring you a review of a wonderful podcast for families. I'm joined by multi-talented host of Dorktales Storytime, Jonathan Cormur, who answers my question about a hidden hero in his life. He bounces the question back to me which was easy to answer. We're so happy to be bringing you a story that Mr. Eric told along with our friend Jonathan Cormur on his podcast, Dorktales Storytime. Normally, we replay an old favorite once a month, so I hope you all enjoy this rare treat! Dorktales Storytime, hosted by voice actor Jonathan Cormur, is a podcast featuring slightly wacky and very geeky retellings of classic fairy tales with social-emotional lessons and the untold stories about the hidden heroes of history. The Story: It's the perfect day for pure play! Sherlock Nettlesbee, the great deducing squirrel detective, joins Jonathan and Mr. Redge in an afternoon of imagination and good old-fashioned make believe. When their cloud gazing doesn't cut it, Sherlock declares that “the Improv Game is afoot!” Can the trio find inspiration from Mary and her little lamb, Lula? Yes and…they're sure to find a whole-lotta playful, floofy fun everywhere they go! PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This story is about making time for imaginary play! Improvisation, or improv, is when you make up a story, or a scene, or a little bit of music on the spot. The ‘Yes And' game is when you listen to another person in your improv scene and agree with what they are saying—that's the ‘yes' part—and you use your own ideas to build on their thoughts—that's the ‘and' part. It's entertaining and very fun, plus it also encourages listening skills, collaboration and cooperation. We're 50 episodes in so Molly Murphy, writer, producer and composer for Dorktales Storytime—and our host, Jonathan Cormur's sister—has a special message about why storytelling and imagination are so incredibly important to the Dorktales' Team:“We love making this podcast because we can tell all kids that everything they're feeling is valid. We can give them tools for navigating the world, and stories to turn to where they can hear that they matter and they're enough. We want to be that community for young people. We want Dorktales to be the space where kids can celebrate who they are without fear.” READ THE SPECIAL MESSAGE: https://jonincharacter.com/whats-the-why-behind-dorktales-storytime/THE MAGICAL DOORWAY, OUR 50TH EPISODE: https://jonincharacter.com/the-magical-doorway/THANK YOU dear listeners—our Dork Squad—for continuing to explore the wonderful, wacky, wild world of Dorktales! Life in the Folktale Forest is merry and bright! Jonathan made a glorious holiday feast—including his pop-in-the-oven crescent rolls and his Aunt Mary Ann's famous sugar cookie recipe—so he and Mr. Redge can grab a plate, gather by the crackling fire, and settle in to hear some Christmas cheer. Join the holiday happiness as they listen to “A Cratchit Christmas” from the Girl Tales Podcast! Girl Tales has reimagined Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol in this charming story about how Belinda Cratchit and her siblings, using Belinda's inventions and their collective creativity, change Scrooge's miserly heart and teach us all lessons in love and kindness.Find more Girl Tales episodes: https://girltalespodcast.com/HEY DORK SQUAD! We are so pleased to share this episode of one of our favorite shows for kids, a fellow Common Sense Media pick for Apple podcasts, Dorktales Storytime Podcast! Hosted by Jonathan Cormur, this podcast is a fellow member show in the wonderful organization we belong to dedicated to high-quality audio for families called Kids Listen. It is also one of Hank's favorite shows. He loves listening to Jonathan & Mr. Redge discuss stories and historical figures, and he often has questions for both of them. The show creators love getting questions from kids, so if you and your family have any, be sure to reach out to them at this link!We asked the fine folks of Dorktales Storytime if we could share this episode about Merlin Tuttle because it is one of our favorites and because bats play a key role in keeping our planetary ecosystem in balance. We love bats so much that we also collaborated with Jodi from Dorktales Storytime to compile a list of great show episodes about bats for Bat Appreciation Day that you can read here.HIDDEN HEROES OF HISTORY | MERLIN TUTTLEwritten by Molly Murphy and performed by Jonathan CormurA story of bat caves, field notes, and righting a wrong reputation! Merlin Tuttle has spent his career studying bats and proving why they are an incredibly vital part of the ecosystem. His research, books, lectures, and National Geographic style photography have led to the knowledge that bats are not spooky but spectacular! Meet the hero who showed the world that some of the smallest creatures are making the biggest contributions—the real “batman” and champion protector of nature's delightful, dark-winged, do-gooders.~Audio Engineering by Jermaine Hamilton and Illustration by Arthur Lin Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/powerdogadventures)
